Best chicken chow mein I’ve ever had. I’ll definitely be back!

Update: I wrote a review before, but I’m moving away from Ottawa so I thought I’d write one more. This place surprised me with its poutine, it’s unexpectedly delicious. Everything I’ve ever got here has been hot and very tasty. All of the employees are kind, but the older gentleman that is sometimes working the counter is such a sweetheart, always so friendly! I’m going to miss this place when I move. Thanks Hung Mein for all the great food while I was in Ottawa!

I ordered more than 5 times from this restaurant for take out, and every time, I am impressed with how good the food tastes. I highly recommend the General Tao chicken and their Egg noodles

Just ordered off Uber and the food Is disgusting, Blandon, and untasteful. Not ordering from here again. I ordered One ton soup, chicken chow maine And cantonese lo main.

Ordered in a whim, because they had good prices on uber eats for the dinner for 2, and they also gave free fried rice after spending 40$. As I was waiting I looked at reviews, and was a bit skeptical after seeing some bad reviews. But wow, I'm very glad I ordered from here! Everything was delicious and the portions where very generous. I did not take pictures of everything my order came with, because I was so hungry and it was so good! Don't hesitate to give this place a try, I will definitely order again

Well I guess I should have paid more attention to the reviews before I literally threw out $45 and I'm not kidding, it was Not edible. Once I got past the fact that I was starving and I had to eat something.

I just looked at one review which was similar to mine.it was bought on Uber eats and the food was just disgusting and they gave it 2 stars.

I don't understand that personally, i'd like to give 0 stars but it's not allowed.

It's unfortunate because I really wanted it to be good. I've been looking for a decent Chinese place for delivery and ever since The food delivery services started, (IMHO), none of the food places deliver themselves.

Of course, I won't order from them again, but if you do, I hope that you have a good meal. I really do

Cons:

1. Extra charge - Restaurant charged $1.00 extra through Uber Eats. Explanation was to fulfill the extra request. Do not know if this is for 2 x fork or 2 x hot sauce or requesting to have General Tao more spicy (which certainly was not done). Never have been charged by any other restaurants for these.

2. Bland taste overall - No distinguishing tastes between all ordered items aside from Singapore Styled Fried Vermicelli as it is curry based. Request to have General Tao more spicy not respected, $1.00 extra charge for either this request or 2 x fork. Even the Singpore Vermicelli did not have consistent flavour throughout.

3. Portion - Portions could be seen as good as per the included picture. However, further analysis of the Combo #4 item (most left item in the picture) displays that the biggest part of the container is filled with Chicken Fried Rice, second biggest part filled with Sweet&Sour Chicken Balls, and finally the smallest (1/4 compared to the biggest) is filled with the Szechuan Beef with largely cut vegetables with 2 to 4 pieces of beef.

Pros: Hard to say at this time.

Reasons for ordering:

1. Read some other reviews before ordering and could see that the owner/manager does reply to some of them so seemed caring.

2. I normally go with the reviews but I also understand there are some people who give bad reviews on purpose these days to sabotage others. Based on #1, I decided to trust the restaurant's explanations for the bad reviews involving topics such as bland taste, etc.

Owner's explanations (not all) for bad reviews previously left:

1. Customers have wrong taste buds (e.g. "No way that items such as General Tao can be bland").

2. Impossible for a customer to leave a bad review when the restaurant was closed due to electricity issues and that the customer found the wrong one.

Summary:

Most likely will not reorder anything largely due to the fact extra charges are applied automatically by the restaurant without good explanations nor having the actual requests not being respected. Taste would have solved it all but unfortunately I have to agree with others saying it is bland.

Maybe this review will also get the owner's typical explanations as done in the past. It is a shame that improvement can only be made when someone is willing to accept criticism. In the business of customer service, it is hard to accept all customers but there should not be such a high level of defensive responses most of the time.

Addition (after reading the owner's reply) :

1. Price of 2 x hot sauce packet is apparently $1.75 as per the attached picture. Yes, it is the same type you get at other restaurants for free. Maybe they started charging for these due to inflation. I really hope McDonald's do not start charging for ketchup packets.

2. Not fully grasping the 51% vs 49% content mentioned. However, if I understood it correctly, the goal of making the 49% of customers happy is maybe unachievable without revisiting the bland taste issue that the customers within the 49% group have mentioned consistently.

For those who actually get to the end of this lengthy review - if you do not mind bland taste, get charged for hot sauce packets, get told that your palate is inaccurate/underdeveloped for spiciness, can bear inconsistent seasoning within a dish, and having Chicken Fried Rice as the main course of a Combo dish - this is your place.

About their last claim about my photos of their food actually helping to bring in "more customers" - do they really think we are that naive to believe it or just dumb?

Their food is always amazing, but the customer service was so rude. We usually order from Uber eats but we picked up for the first time and the man at the front was extremely rude and condescending. Definitely never going in person again.

I would honestly give 10 stars if I could! Me and my boyfriend ordered hung mein for dinner last night and it was truly the best chinese food we've ever had.we ordered 2 combo plates, fried rice and general tao's chicken (we were very hungry) and last but not least 2 fortune cookies that were very sweet with even sweeter messages inside! Thank you for including chopsticks in our order <3 and thank you for an excellent experience! We will definitely be ordering again:)

We ordered through Ubereats tonight and it was very disappointing. The egg rolls tasted like they were yesterday's batch as they were stale and none of our food had flavour. It was very bland.

We order the chicken chop suey, beef with broccoli, a dozen egg rolls and chicken fried rice.

The quantity was okay but won't be ordering again as there is no flavour, the rice tastes burnt but isn't actually burnt, and the egg rolls which is everyone's favourite part well were just stale and very flavourless.

They go above and beyond to make you happy.

Great food and also very fast serving times. I have only been ordering General Tao's Chicken, Yang Chow Fried Rice and BBQ Pork with Egg Noodles and those dishes are great.

It's always better to call and talk to them if you have an issue with anything. I can guarantee that if you are respectful, you will be met with incredible service and you will also be remembered. You almost don't see that anymore.

I was going to place an order for Chinese, we decided on something else. Told guy on phone I'd call back.

An hour later they send food anyways! Not impressed! Paid for the food. Not sure what part of id call you back he didn't understand?

I have had consistently fresh delicious food each time I've picked up. Usually get a combination plate or dinner for two. Very nice staff every time I've been there.

Zero stars if i could they give no beef no shrimp i literally got 1 beef in my combination plate be warned i warned you if u order from here u will get scammed.whats even worst i spent 60 bucks to get 1 peice of beef please people check ur reviews dont order from here.

Ordered 5 items. 3 out of 5 were bad. 2 were ok. Particularly bad was BBQ pork with Bok-Choi since it didn't actually have any Bok Choi in it, but was made with Napa cabbage. Don't think I'll order from here again.

The parking lot is horrible. Their ordering room was disgusted! The ceiling fan need cleaning! The room is very yellow! HOWEVER THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD! Reason for 3 stars is to improve their orderingentrance room! I ordered food to bring to Kemptville tho.

Order was awesome, and price is perfect, food is way better than before, service should have 6 star. And their 20coupons get FREE combo!

The first time i ordered the food was really good and fresh. The second time I ordered the food was slimey and cold. The worst part was the guy who was preparing food was using bare fingers to put rice and other food into the containers and then using the register. No handwashing happened in between so you can imagine how they prep the food in the back. Money down the drain. I couldn’t even eat the food knowing that the food was prepared unsanitary. We thought this was going to be our go to Chinese restaurant. It’s disappointing especially during covid times. So disguisting we won’t be coming back and i wouldn’t recommend.

The food here tastes so good! Portions are big. Prices are great! ’ I’ve been ordering from here for years. I’m so glad they are close to where I live! I recommend Hung Mein to everyone! They have very friendly restaurant and delivery staff!

After calling in my order and eating here for the first time I can say that not only is the food very good but the customer service is impeccable. I asked if they could combine two separate plates together and they did no questions asked, every other place I’ve tried always says no so I commend you for that. Thank you.

Its open late. Not everything is bad. Meat dishes r low quality meat. If u order beef or chicken its low grade.it comes with 80% raw mixed vegetables.although it doesn't say 20% meat with 80% mixed vegetables. Orders are on the smaller side. 30% smaller than anywhere else in the city. We ordered 35$ of food for 2 girls it wasn't enough at all. Still hungry i felt a little ripped off. Maybe its just me.but that's a week worth of groceries gone in 5min. If we spent 30$ on shawarma right next door would last us 3 days. We recommend getting the chicken balls only. Theyre good but get sauce on the side.

It's General Tao's chicken. Properly cooked, good portion, deeeelicious with latest menu prices check photos.

I've tried many Chinese restaurants in Ottawa but they're now closed so I tried many other places and didn't like the food until I found hung Maine and thereby far the best in Ottawa so I give them a five star

Absolutely delicious! We just ordered a Dinner For Four "A" that comes with a bonus special (we tried the Egg Rolls, nhamy!). Definitely recommend this place, order came out fast and warm.

Every dish I’ve ordered at this restaurant has been incredible. The staff are kind and welcoming, the takeout service is excellent and the food is wonderful. Couldn’t recommend it more highly.

Use this take away all the time, never had anything to complain about, good quality of food, good prices, good delivery service, staff are great.

Takeaway service was awesome, food is fresh hot and delicious. Wait was not that long. Everything we ordered was good especially the noodle.

Ordered delivery from this place for our first time and it will be the last. The food was extremely bland and egg rolls/spring rolls extra greasy compared to other places. Fried rice was fairly hard and not too tasty. The noodles were cooked nicely but lacked a lot of flavour.

The portions are very good! Actually probably the best of all the Chinese takeout I have visited! The food tastes good and they are quick! The chicken balls are not only batter, but a nice piece of chicken. The chicken fried rice has chicken in it and the pork ribs were meaty. They made sure I did not receive just a meatless bone!
