Ichiki Japanese & Thai Restaurant

I went with my family and two couples last week, and we all agreed that it was low quality for the price. It's going to be my first and last visit.

Great food, fast service, communication could be a bit better, but overall highly recommended place

Went on a Monday. I came here before and no issues, but now the food and service have deteriorated significantly. It seems like the sushi was old from day before. Rice tasted horrible like they poured extra vinegar in it. Tempura bits also old, not crunchy.
When told the waitress about it she immediately got defensive saying all was fresh and all was good. I asked her to try herself, but she didn't want to. She was just concerned about the bill and that we needed to pay because we had already ate some of it. I asked to speak to the Manager and she said she wasn't available but she would call me. I'm still waiting for the call lol.anyways there are plenty of great sushi places in Vaughan so save yourself the time and money and go elsewhere

Been here many times over the years and it's amazing every time. Lots of food selection and fast service. The torched rolls and the creme brule are incredible.

We had dinner yesterday and don't go back to this place. Very rude staff, they are fighting with you and giving you anxiety about the food you are ordering. Over charged us with service delivery (15%) however we were only 4 people with 18 month old baby, and this rule wasn't mentioned in their website. If you want to enjoy your meal do go there.

Easily my favourite all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant in Vaughan. Exquisite food! + great service! Nice atmosphere too!

Some waiters were so kind! There was this girl with glasses who explained everything perfectly so my friend and I could understand. However, there were two waiters who were rude. They constantly gave dirty looks as well as not being polite. For example, not saying “You’re welcome! ” after we thanked them. The food was not worth the price. Some of the food here was seriously dry but some were good such as the salmon teriyaki. The atmosphere was great overall, I adored the decorations. Overall, this is a pricy place. Please do come here only if you can afford it. I recommend going to a different place such as Chako or Maple Sushi. The rude waiters make this experience unenjoyable.

My parents brought me here for dinner. Food was fresh and quickly served, but I felt the menu was limited, especially for dinner service. It was also very pricey for AYCE (been to many others with similar menus for much cheaper). The restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere, decor, clean restrooms, etc. The staff although attentive, seemed aloof and kinda rude (kept to themselves in a group).

Looking for a top-notch AYCE in Vaughan? Well, look no further than ICHIKI. In case you'd like more than Japanese, it has Thai too. If you'd like to order at your own pace, they use tablet menus. And if you wish orders would all show up at your table, I'd say come here for a pleasant meal experience.

We were more than happy to try their less common AYCE items such as the refreshing beef & butterfish tataki with ponzu sauce, and the smoky beef torched sushi. Their sashimi tasted fresh and pieces were cut in good size portions. Hot takoyaki balls, crispy coconut shrimps and satay chicken skewers were all on point so we got a second serving. Their grilled squid was fairly tender and flavorful too. Other typical items were on the menu, and we couldn't resist the desserts such as fried milk even after a full meal.

Good thing we made a reservation because it was completely packed! Once seated, our service was attentive and expeditious in this modern looking restaurant. We didn't wait more than a few minutes before our dishes started to arrive steadily. It's true they charge a few bucks more than usual AYCE but we felt the meal was well worth it.

ICHIKI offers decent Japanese & Thai fare. So how did a star go missing in this review? Our sushi rolls were a little sloppy but hopefully this was just an off-night. There were plenty of more exciting items to avoid filling ourselves on rice in rolls!

Decided to have a la carte instead of the usual all you can eat. Food is prepared differently, but not as many selection when compared to all you can eat menu. Bit on the pricey side, but the food is fresh. Nice atmosphere and places for large groups.

Good food, fast service, friendly staff. The only think I didn't like is that the closing time was 10 pm but at 9: 15 we could feel the rush of closing.

It's ok for ayce sushi, just decent though, nothing special. Quality has dipped quite a bit since pre-covid times though.

All you can eat is worth every penny in the afternoons. The dinner price is so high though. The taste and quality is there. Very fast service.

We have only ordered 1 round for the dinner cause our 5 years don't like the place.

1. They serviced as a full plate of fried rice! Which is a good size for an adult
Main dish. We were trying so hard to finish it!
2. They charge $1 per price of the sashimi, we had left 4 pics because the red tuna is not fresh
3.the sweet and sour chicken is a disaster! Main dish size again and only a little source on the poor chicken.
4. After we talk with the manager and tell her the kitchen hot food portions are all way too big, that's why we can not finish the left. But she still charged us $6 additional.
5. We have only spent 30 mins in total in the restaurant for 2 Adults and one 5-year-old. Then spend $125 for all. Read this before you go to this restaurant.

Not authentic Japanese cuisine. Food feels cheap, but at a high price. Ordered Pad Thai to start. Plate was completely saturated in sauce. No peanuts added, when asked server said they do not have such luxury. Tried Ramen but had a strange odor and cheap instant noodles. Finally got a sushi plate. Sushi was OK at best, but not what you'd expect from a place at this rating. Seems like this place used to be good pre pandemic but the new ownership is a sinking ship. Spend your hard earned dollars somewhere else.

I used to come here every week but the quality has gone so far down hill. I have a very easy palette but even the food didn’t taste as good as it used too. I can tell they have cut corners which is understandable, but it had caused me to have an upset stomach later on that evening.

Even with all of that, I still would of been okay had it not been for the extemely distasteful service that I was given. I didn’t do anything to upset this lady and we said thank you every single time she placed food down on our table. She chucks the plate on our table that makes a loud abrupt sound. She glared at us for no apparent reason and even when she puts away dishes into the bin, she just throws them in causing a ruckus. Servers can have bad days, I wholeheartedly understand, but you have to keep your personal matters at home and try to be professional in your job. If not, then call in sick and stay at home, otherwise don’t work in a customer service profession. My first ever review that I have ever give because of how upset this place caused me. I will advise all of my friends to not spend their hard earned money into this establishment.

Ichiki used to be a very good restaurant with high quality food but unfortunately dropped quality after a while. Sushi’s are not good at all and service not good anymore. Do not recommend anymore. If you want high quality all you can eat try other restaurants.

Went here for all you can eat and I was really disappointed. The servers were careless, sushi was not fresh at all. Chicken and beef were tasteless. I had heard good stuff about this place but did not meet my expectations. Would not come back unfortunately

Extremely unethical behaviour occuring at this restaurant.

We were charged extra for pieces uneaten. We left a reasonable amount of food left over for what we ordered. We did not order excessively, we just didn't feel like having to force eat EVERYTHING that was given. We were also given orders not ours and penalized for this as well.

For dinner where we were charged 40$ a person before tax, We were charged an additional 16$ for what was left over. This is wildly unbelievable considering there was no text, no fine print, and not even the waiter mentioning the policy to us at all.

Just a tip to the restaurant. You would've made your 16$ in tips and had a returning customer, yet you decided to be greedy.

This establishment has extremely rude staff, hidden fees to hit you with, and the food isn't worth it.

Pretty good AYCE with a broad selection of Japanese and Thai dishes. Service was very prompt during lunch, and green tea was kept hot and full throughout. Pricing was reasonable at $30 pp after taxes.

First and last time. Food was really bad. Nothing I tried tasted good, rice full of oil. Tasteless chicken and beef skewers. Used to go to Kyoto and came here to try but very disappointed. Kyoto is way better than this.

Went here for Easter dinner by myself, and I went specifically for mackeral sashimi. After I place some orders for all you can eat they bring everything but the mackeral. I eat and ask them 10 mins later where is it they say they're out of mackeral. I drove 40 minutes for nothing. The sashimi I wanted the most was out of stock. The tuna roll I ordered was disgusting, the fish tasted horrible and old. I had to stop ordering their dishes because they seemed to not care about the ingredients, I ordered buttered shrimp, no butter or salt, just bland taste worst shrimp ever. Tako balls soaked in some disgusting barbeque sauce that made it in appetiable. I asked for the baked mussels no mayonnaise and they bring me plain mussels no salt no nothing just sea water taste. Will never be coming back to this location again. Scammed for 50$ on Easter. Edit the tuna roll was actually disgusting. I don't know if they didn't like me or the way I looked, but it tasted like someone picked this tuna upout of the garbage. Half the tunas were? Mushed? Inside the roll, like the fish was so old and disgusting that it couldn't even keep it's form. It was just disintegrating in the roll as fish mushh.

Typical AYCE service, nice decor, WICKED FAST service. Food came almost as soon as I pushed the send button.

Please go somewhere else. We were a party of 8 and everyone agreed the food was horrible. Even basic items like edamame, cheese wontons tasted BAD. They also had no udon noodles on the AYCE menu. The restaurant was highly recommended and reviews were good so not sure if we just went on a bad night.

Don’t take your date to Ichiki. It is a crowded place where employees work just because they need to make ends meet. Food is bland and resembles Japanese cuisine only by name and shape. Keep in mind that their advertised closing time indicates the actual time when they expect lights off, doors closed and everyone out of the place, including the workers.

We came in at 9PM on Thursday, a whole hour prior to their closing time. A hostess upfront advised us that it’s too late for AYCE menu but we can do a la carte. The place was still full with just a few empty booths remaining. Nonetheless, several minutes later the last call was announced, and sushi chefs went into full closing mode. They were gone from their stations by 9: 20PM – that’s forty minutes prior to the official closing time. Next, the hostesses started doing the general clean up. There were loud noises of dishes and cups being dumped and moved around cleanup pails right in the dining room, floors swept and mopped, and chatter of tired workers ready to head home. Certainly not an environment where you feel welcomed.

Sashimi, hand and maki rolls had fresh but tasteless ingredients. My unagi maki roll somehow had small pieces of fish bone. Rice was overly pressed with individual grains tightly squished together.

Sitting booths are on a smaller size with every inch of space optimized to serve as many parties at once as possible. The backrests are upright and uncomfortable. They are nothing more than lightly tufted plywood benches.

By 9: 50 PM we were the last patrons out of this place. As far as I'm concerned, Ichiki now competes for the title of one of the worst places to get food in the GTA. Avoid.

Terrific! Excellent, fast service. Lots of vegetarian options. Generous cuts of fresh fish. It is a bit pricy, but the quality is always good and the service is always fast, somewhat utilitarian. Haven't been here in a while, because of covid. Prices are higher. Same menu and excellent service! Recommended.

First time and last time!
Very disappointed. Ordered Chashu ramen they gave me a bowl of instant noodles which was so freakin salty. I could have made this at home and taste 5x better.

I walked in with my husband for all you can eat lunch. We looked at the iPad menu and they didn’t have scallop, fried calamari, or salmon rose. The menu was very basic. Their special rolls was all shrimp based.
We ended up leaving before ordering anything. It was disappointing. For $28 I would have expected more.

Nasty hygiene, infested.

Customer service is an alien concept to them and it’s not in their dictionary. It’s non existent. They do weird things to ruin your dinner time with your family. They behaved really badly with my wife and me. Perhaps they thought we would get angry and stop eating and leave. They are lucky that we paid because they didn’t deserve 1 cent. I should have called the police and got them charged for harassment.

I am going to blast these criminals on social media.

Ambiance and presentation is nice. They have interesting rolls and we wanted to try it. We ordered one round and some of the rolls weren't good so we didn't force it and decided to get the bill without ordering another round since we don't want to waste any more food. They decided to charge per piece for the rolls (combined 6 pieces), even though I mentioned it's not as described or pictured. Happy to pay it but won't be going back.

High quality sushi for an all you can eat sushi. Very good customer service. Your order comes to your table very quickly and you dont have to wait a long time

Their words and attitude will linger. It’s horrible service. Garbage. I wish I read all the reviews before going there. It’s infested yuk!

The food is great, but the rudest service I've ever experienced in my life; will not come back again.

Food overall was alright and food was served relatively quick.
Service however lacks with finesse and care.
Utensils are just dropped off on the table. When I say dropped off on the table, I mean literally without finesse and care and without putting it on a napkin and utensils all over the place. When they pour the water into the cup they do it so aggressively that the water splashes everywhere. Staff doesn't even smile and felt like they don't want to be there. Also the washroom was filthy, and a wet paper towel is on the mirror when I walked in.

My go to sushi place. The order is quick & tastes the best compared to all other sushi restaurants near me. Have never tasted their Thai however, their japanese cuisine's the best. And the best thing is that order is ready in no time.

One of the best sushi restaurant we went to. The service is fast and the sushi serving was big. It was a bit expensive but I loved the desert that we ordered, green tea ice, crème brûlèe and tiramisu.

Okay, if you want a simple regular mediocre experience and some sushi, this is not a bad place at all. But when it comes to details and authenticity, it’s a no. All our appetizers were so underwhelming. The gyoza came in a pool of soy sauce, the crab wontons were soggy, the spring rolls were really bland sadly, and the chicken dishes were so salty and portly presented. Not to mention, the takoyaki balls were just a pool of mayo. Again, the food was just ehh. Honestly, the best thing we had there was mango ice cream. I think you need to go into that restaurant with an understanding that you can get the same quality food and sushi at Galleria. Not trying to bash this restaurant at all, but it really was disappointing. But the staff was really sweet to us!

Love the quality, freshness and presentation of everything. The only complaint is that a lot of appetizers and tataki are served in a very sweet sauce that is almost like a syrup, so everything takes on that flavour. Not everyone likes their fish with sugar. It's an easy fix, just use a regular ponzu sauce, but they said they don't have that. I hope they can fix this to make it 5 stars. All appetizers in the picture have the same sauce.

Excellent, fresh, and great value sushi at Ichiki. We have been ordering their take out party platters and bento boxes for years. The sushi is excellent quality, with genearous fish portions, and always fresh. Highly recommend the platters for groups, or families. Also check out the deep fried cheese wontons, a favourite we have ordered many times. Service is quick for take out orders even on Friday evenings. Great local spot!

We were super hungry and were not disappointed and actually ended up with more than we could eat. The edamame was twice the size of any place in Toronto! They put twice the amount of avocado in their avocado maki! The fried udon was tasty. I especially enjoyed the addition of banana in their sushi. I had the Veg Geisha Roll and it was delicious! An addition of Tofu teriyaki would be fantastic. Best sushi place for hungry people!

We've dined here 4x this past month. We chose the " all you can eat " option. Loved the small portions. There are plenty to choose from the menu to satisfy our tastes. Especially I'm a huge fan of sashimi and raw, my husband likes food cooked and allergic to some fish.

Service is fast even on a busy Saturday night. Servers are very friendly and attentive.

These are what we had so far.

- Cucumber salad rolls (light and refreshing)
- Assortments of sashimi (very fresh and served at a perfect temperature)
- Seaweed salad
- Beef tataki
- Mango salad (dressing needs a bit more depth)
- Sushi pizza (found the fried rice cake too hard)
- Spider rolls (flavor alright, there's just enough rice in the maki which is great)
- Grilled eggplant (loved it, the miso glaze was light and tasty)
- Calamari (was alright, sometimes can be rubbery)
- Shrimp & sweet potato tempuras
- Beef enoki mushrooms rolls (sauce needs more flavor)
- Short ribs
- Beef teriyaki (was a bit over cooked)
- Pineapple fried rice (lightly seasoned, not greasy)
- Chicken cashew (meat very moist, taste is good, too much sauce)
- General Tao chicken (nicely deep fried, flavor is good, small complaint is the uneven sizes of the chicken sometimes, that makes some pieces too well done and dry)
- Red curry shrimps (needs more coconut milk for a touch of sweetness)
- Chashu pork ramen (don't care much for the noodles texture, the bamboo shoots NEEDS to be rinse out properly to get rid of the smell)
- Ice cream
- Mango pudding (nice and light)
- Mango mouse cake (taste alright)
- Creme brulee (one of the better one I've tasted. Light, smooth and just enough sweetness)
- Deep fried puffs (Yummy!)
- Sesame balls (freshly fried)

We're slowly working our ways down the menu.

4.5 stars that I will round up to 5. We ordered a 70 pc platter. It was very good. What stood out was the sashimi. A lot of sashimi is good but rather bland with not much flavour - for whatever reason. This one has a lot of flavour that I haven't tasted in sashimi in years. Impressive. I'm not sure if the can do it again or if really flavorful sashimi is a fluke.

A friend recommended this place, and the food tasted awesome. Generous portions, not small and not huge so you can't fit in your mouth. Will be ordering again for sure, and definitely recommend this sushi bar to others.

Really disappointed. Was told on the phone, it was first come first serve. We drove all the way there only to find out I was lied to and needed reservations. The food is pretty good, and the miscommunication is the real disappointment.

Delicious All-you-can-eat sushi. The food came quickly, the waitress was hilarious and polite as can be. Would definitely recommend to anybody passing by. Only con is that it was $30.99 for all you can eat, which is a bit more expensive than where I come from but it was absolutely worth it regardless.

Half our table only wanted a single item and wanted to order a la carte and they gave us a really hard time and said we all had to order all you can eat.

After that, we asked for a roll without an ingredient because of allergies and they repeatedly brought it out with the allergen included. Usually great service, not so much anymore.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Absolute worst customer service first of all.second of all, I find a slug in my edamame. I ask for the manager, one of the workers told me it's normal, the supplier they use has this problem and someone else complained and she had the audacity to say "its healthy". Then the manager comes repeating the same exact thing about the supplier and literally did nothing to satisfy the customer.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Manager and employee had the audacity to say it's okay to eat the slug, it's healthy and normal for it to be in the edamame they serve! Manager said its happened in the past and has done nothing with changing the supplier or take any corrective measures. Customer service was horrible and didn't even suggest taking care of the bill. She was more concerned that we had already ate our entire meal and didnt want to refund the meal after we saw it. Eating non farmed slugs is apparently normal for this establishment.

Good food. Good service. What more can you ask for? Don’t go there if you’re cheap. I ate so much because it was so good. Even after I was full, I kept eating. Most people complain about price but this place is worth it. It also is higher quality sushi and definitely worth it. If you are going there, expect a higher bill.

Terrible customer service. Waitstaff is miserable and rude and disrespectful. No eye contact when serving you. No class! One waitress is yawning as she was serving us and other tables. We continued to say thank you as they brought our dishes to the table and no response. No class! Very disappointed.

I have been to this restaurant several times and the food is always fairly good. Today’s experience however was so unexpected.

With my sister and 3 nieces, we were a table of 5. The lady server with shorter hair was so obnoxious I actually confronted her and reminder her that we were out for a pleasant dinner and she didn’t have to be throwing the plates with food into the table. Prior to that when asked for extra sauce for the chicken katsu, she disputed saying to look under the chicken. Yes it was there but we wanted more sauce. There was no acknowledgement. Not sure why unfriendly and unhappy people work in this supposedly customer service industry. The restaurant was not even busy so there were no excuses for the abruptly rude service.

After confronting her with her bad service, we had nothing but good service from the rest of the service team. Unfortunately for us, a negative mood was already created.

Without asking for it, we were presented with our bill and the grates was included in it.

I hope the owner or the manager of this restaurant reads this, and really train the staff, and hire the right team members who are service oriented.

We went here based on the recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is comfortable and seemed very clean. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and seated shortly after.

The staff were friendly and efficient and our orders came out quickly even though it seemed to be a busy period. Ordering is done via a tablet which I have seen in a few places before. Pro tip - don't order everything and then hit send. Break up your orders and send in waves to ensure a steady stream of food and reduce waiting times.

Both the food and sushi were good. The rolls and fish were fresh and we'll prepared. We didn't try a lot of hot food dishes but we were impressed with how hot and fresh the sweet and sour chicken was.

We will definitely revisit here again.

Amazing service and food, order on a tablet with a lot of selection to choose from. Servers are quick to remove empty plates and keep telling your water at the table. I would definitely suggest a reservation, unless you go early then not needed. Everything was fresh to order and unbelievable taste for a buffet. Price is justified and the environment is very relaxing, this will be my go to buffet from now on.

Reservation is a must. This restaurant is really busy at peak times. The service was good, from ordering to receiving the dish. No mistakes. Food was delicious and well worth the $30.00 fee. Seating is comfortable and decor very nice. Will definitely go back

Its ok.there's better ayce sushi places out there. Good rice to fish ratio on the rolls but very disappointing that you have to pay extra for sashimi when getting the ayce option for lunch.

Amazing place for sushi, everything was fresh and bursting with flavour. Got to try some new rolls as well. Definitely worth making the trip from downtown again!
