Food is okay, attitude of staff is horrible, yes, you get loads of clients just off the ferry, but please enjoy your work and live a lot longer!

I had breakfast in this very alternative place. Nothing to say. The sandwich is good. The cappuccino is good. What made me go crazy with joy is the amount of plants grown with love. With the passion for cooking that I have I would have collected a lot of their vegetables and cooked everything. Well done for the passion

Their patio is beautiful- to sit amongst the vegetable garden is great! I did not try the food but the cappuccino was great. Will be coming back to try food- I love that they grow their own vegetables.

Very disappointed. We spent $25 just on the ferry to come eat here. Got there and seated but there were no hi chairs for our baby. There was a wedding so understandable.

What disappointed the most was we put in an order for nan bread and hummus and then muscles with fries. We sat for almost a full hour with nothing. We watched a couple that came on the same ferry as us eat and leave and we still had not gotten it. At the end my wife tried telling the server and she just ignored and walked right by her.
She was actually kind of rude towards my wife from beginning just very short, no explanations just not good service. It’s too bad cause the people beside us that we watched order their miss les said they are delicious.

The person behind the takeout counter had the biggest attitude problem.
Zero communication. Awful service. Utterly unwelcoming.

She stood in stark contrast to what appeared to be a fantastic server on the dine in side.

Food was ok but expensive. Waitress was rude. Gratuity is mandatory and they lack the ability or desire to bill split. At least that is what we were told.

If you're looking for a quaint cafe with a view of the water, Island Cafe is the place for you. The menu is small but offers a good variety of breakfast and lunch items. The coffee is also very good. The service is friendly and efficient. The only downside is that the cafe is located in a fairly remote part of the island, so it can be a bit of a trek to get there.
The sundays are also a nice reward when you bike all the way there.

This restaurant was actually great, the food was delicious but then i ordered the so called fruit pie and waited for it for 45 minutes and when it came it ended up being a vegetable pie i took a bite and almost barfed. There aint no fruit in that damn pie.

Adorable spot that I really want to love but the food is very overpriced and mediocre. I will pay a lot for quality food, but the price here just does NOT match the quality you are getting. Tiny portion of fries for $7 and cold hot dogs with a stale bun for $5 a piece.

Spent over an hour here. 5 minutes eating, and 60 minutes waiting. 20 minutes for a server to take our order, 20 minutes for the food to arrive and 20 minutes for the bill. The burger was seemingly a frozen patty. The salad accompanying the burger was just wilted lettuce and dressing.

I want to say they were understaffed, but I don't believe this to be the case. There were plenty of servers, just they didn't seem too interested in visiting the patron section of the restaurant.

Drinks were fine.

The settingnis beautiful. But the Fish and Chips were a disappointment. Fries were cold. Somebody thought it'd be funny not to tighten the Mayo so a bit of a mess was made but it didn't have the intended effect. Clean up on the back table. Make sure the condiments are on tight.

This is a really nice place. Eating outside among the vegetable garden and with a view of the lake is a vibe. It’s quiet and very friendly. Our waiter was fantastic and patient as I had to send my burger back to be cooked longer. This was my only complaint - the burger was raw inside, and even after cooking it more, it came back with raw patches all over the inside. If you want a cooked burger, you need to ask for very well done, as it could be unsafe to eat raw ground beef due to potential exposure to bacteria during processing - it isn’t a steak. Otherwise, I highly recommend this place and have been there a couple of times and will go again, bearing in mind the need to request very well done burgers in the future.

Man ok i wish i was exaggerating but we waited over an hour for our food, servers did not clear empty plates as we ate, mediocre overpriced food, no one refilled our water, took forever to get the bill as well, basically wasted 2 and a half hrs year due to slow and unresponsive service, don’t waste your time here ladies and germs

Service un peu long mais cadre et serveurs agréables. Le repas fait sur place avec des produits frais était bon. Dimple mais bon.

The location is incredible and majority of the veggies are from their own garden. Portions are a bit small though. Fish and chips, even though tasty, had only one fish. Artichoke hearts were bomb

I noticed this place as I was biking up the island and thought it may be a good
place to enjoy a cold beverage and a small bite to eat. When I stopped in, the hostess who seated me was very pleasant, I used the restroom and once I was seated at my table at least two members of the patio staff walked past me more than once and didn’t acknowledge my presence or even offer a simple “ I’ll be right with you“ When I got irritated and signaled one of the waitresses, she merely offered a finger telling me to hold on. The food was decent and I enjoyed my glass of rosé but they can certainly use a lesson on basic customer service and I wouldn’t return.

Had the tuna tataki. Everything on the plate was way too salty and the tuna did not taste fresh (kinda had a frozen taste). Disappointed that I paid nearly $20 for such a small portion that I couldn’t even enjoy. Was here on another occasion and ordered the vegan wrap, that was much better.

Mediocre food. Very poor service. Expect to wait for a very long time and get your drinks warm. They also include the tip directly and don’t tell you. Watch out. You don’t want to tip twice for that kind of service. I put two stars only because the patio is nice.

Very rude and poor customer service. Man with long blonde hair slammed the ice cream cookie and and napkin on the counter and walked away. The girl behind the counter also handed me an ice cream cone without the cone held by a tissue, which is very unsanitary. Definitely won't be returning here.

We went there as a group and the service was pretty organized and fast.

Burger was not that good. Fish and chips was average.

I like the atmosphere and food was decent. However, the service takes forever to get to you. We were waiting our check for almost an hour.

I rarely give bad reviews but we had terrible experience, not a good place to go to with little kids.

Group of 3 decent Indians, We order 3 Fish n Chips and 3 sangria for the 3 of us.we were server by a girl with glasses at first we were quite excited.order Fish n Chips was not the best but Okish as we had better quality else where. However, we never got the "sangria" on our table.we kept looking for the hostess who originally served us but she was no where to be seen for the next 30 to 40 min. Reminded once to another hostess lady with nose pin "sangria" did not came.followed up again with the Host Man in Coat n Shorts do "sangria" waited for another 30 min and again reminded to the same girl who was serving us but again we did not had any "sangria" on our table.very disappointed and seeing the crew serving others with whatever drink others ordered but why were we Ignored not once but thrice? ! We did pay tips before leaving even though we felt unattended and Ignored? !

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste of the food! We had the burger with salad, fish and chips, and chicken wings, all the items and sides are done beautifully!

Definitely better than the other franchise style places on the island.

I give them 8.5/10!

With almost no people inside, staff is pretending that they don't see you. Disappointing.

We used to come here regularly pre-pandemic and always enjoyed our time. Now that the patio has expanded, their service is extremely slow and it’s very disappointing. We sat for an hour (with our toddler) waiting for our dinner. Yes it was Friday night, but it took us 20 minutes to get our water glasses. We made the trek from the city to just to take our daughter for a special dinner and this was very disappointing. We won’t make the effort again. The cafe has expanded beyond their capacity and it’s just too bad.

I found the food to be good, but quite expensive.

The service was terrible. I realize they were short staffed but the waiter actually walked away from me while I was talking. It was very rude.

He was replaced by a lovely lady and the whole experience went a bit better.

I want to like this place but I cannot recommend it.

Very pretty location and the food here is good, especially their fries. However, the service could be better.
Also, their iced latte is a must-try!

Waited 20 mins before someon came over to greet us. Another 45 mins before drinks were brought over. TERRIBLE SERVICE because this place is incredibly understaffed. Will never come back. Get it together.

Service à table lamentable! Il faisait chaud je n'ai pu avoir un verre d'eau en attendant ma commande qu'après plusieurs longues minutes, l'eau était chaude et dégoûtante. Il faut faire des grands signes et appeler les serveurs à plusieurs reprises pour être servi, c'est le conseil que m'a donné la table à côté et j'ai enfin pu passer commande. J'ai commandé un thé glacé et un burger. Il y avait un cheveu dans ma boisson. On attend énormément de temps notre commande. Il a fallu que je demande pour avoir une sauce pour mes frites. Même histoire pour payer, j'ai dû attendre énormément de temps, appeler différents serveurs et malgré ça j'ai dû attendre très longtemps pour payer alors qu'il n'y avait pas tant de personnes. Si vous devez y acheter quelque chose, prenez à emporter!

Waited for half an hour for just a glass of coconut water and ice cream. Asked the waiter several times and only got answers “it’s busy today. ” Terrible service.

We have been going to Island Café for sometime and highly recommending it. We have been waiting for Covid restrictions to end in order to reattend. Yesterday we showed up explaining that we forgot our bike locks and were placed along the edge of the patio. We were overlooked for service where others had received their drinks and meals. We were yet to order. As soon we left the staff was quick to clean and reset our table. Oh well.

This place is very friendly and has chill vibes as it's marketed. It seems to capture an ongoing good mood, employees are relaxed and handle customers needs well including a fast-paced tempo with ease whenever necessary. Things stay relaxed.

I've been here multiple times (approximately 6 to 8 in total). My family and I will continue to enjoy service here for coffees or a popsicle for the kids, or a light bite to eat.

The prices aren't inexpensive, though, the service and quality of food is good.

The Island Cafe personifies Wards Island as an easy spot to recieve casual drinks and enjoyable dining. The outdoor patio layout fits the space exceptionally well.

Note: The ferries to the city are in view from this Cafe location, in other words, you can enjoy a coffee while awaiting for your ferry to arrive to head back to the mainland.

4.5 is really my sweet spot.
Pro - Friendly tempo, quality food, service
Con - Steeper prices than typical

Pros - Good patio space, nice atmosphere and views. The food was actually much better than I expected! The Naan and dip was a bit pricey, but very flavourful. The mussels were a great value in terms of portion size and the flavour was spot on as well.

Cons - Service was very slow, and all the servers looked very confused. The quality of service was also lacking, no quality checks, a server spilled half of our fries on our table and looked like they were struggling with the tray (they did replace it), etc. The drinks were not great. We ordered a sangria that was subpar, lacking intensity of red wine notes and sweet fruitiness, and we were given white granulated sugar for an iced Americano, which obviously doesn't do anything because the sugar won't melt.

Overall a decent experience, better than I initially expected!

Fantastic idea, serving locally grown at a stunning location & atmosphere, but fell very short on the service. I mean, very short! Maybe it was a bad staffing day, but by the time we got to sit and then get our orders (from a different menu than posted online), and finally our bill, we were absolutely exhausted from the experience.

Quick bite to eat in the morning.breakfast sandwich for take out came out quick and I was on my way:)
