Island Mix Restaurant & Lounge

Was in the mood for Trinidad Chinese food.wasted my time and money going to Island Mix in Pickering. Got vegetable fried rice, veggie chow mein and crispy fried chicken. I'm still looking for the veggies and found only cabbage in both dishes and it was oily. The chicken was ok but salty! Got to find another place.

Great options for food. The food is actually good. Make sure to order ahead as they take their time to get you your food. It seems that is always fresh! Their staff are usually friendly and willing to help. Don't spend too much time with the menu as it is quite long. Sometimes confuses you because you might find things you want but not really what you are looking for. Either way good options for various dishes.

Never disappointed when I go to this restaurant.

The quality of the is excellent. Food it flavourful and portions are generous.

I was having my baby shower and my caterer cancelled less than 2 hours before my event started and it was so stressful!
I didn't know what to do so last minute but I knew island mix also did catering orders so we went there and placed a whole bunch of trays. We were cared for immediately and they worked hard & fast so we had our order done in less than an hour! Safe to say island mix really came through for me and the food was delicious!
Literally a life saver

My friend ordered vegetarian fried rice without egg. Finally she got the fried rice with the chicken pieces. He son is only 5 year, from the baby he was allergic to meat and egg. Because if today’s food she was in panic pain, not sure how he is going to get the reaction. She called the restaurant and they’re saying I didn’t take the order I don’t no who is it, finally asked to hold on the line to talk to the manager, but on the line for long time no response. Worse Resturant, they don’t care if vegetarian needs to be veggie 100%. Please be aware if you order food for your kids before feed them.

I ordered the island mix fried rice special and the Lo-mein special which is suppose to have chicken, beef, shrimp, veggies and deep fried chicken on top. What I got was a mess. No meat in the Lo-mein and only chicken in the fried rice! Paid over $36 for 2 dishes. Such a disappointment. I've ordered from them before, it was not the best but it certainly not as bad as this.

Delicious food as always but was very disappointed in the service. Service was extremely slow and the maintenance of outdoor patio was disappointing. Tables were not sanitized after customer used it, discarded face mask and food droppings were under the table. I was very disgusted, don't think I will be dinning there again. Take out maybe.

Very poor service, manager and some of his friends are in one table, and all the waiters trying to impress their manager by serving his table. We were waiting all to geather one hour for the bill

Great food, everyone is a friend at this place.
Try the take away cocktails, vintage Rum, lime and pepper chicken wings! Awesome!

Have been coming here for years and the food is usually really good. Today for some reason the fried rice was tasteless and had a stale smell. The other food was good. I also asked for cutlery and hot sauce, none of which were present in the bag. Hoping they can bring back the old fried rice chef

We’ve had their Special Chicken Fried Rice, Pholourie, and Chicken in Black Bean sauce and it was all satisfying. Their 6 different pepper sauces were intense yet had us craving more. This is one of my favourite things about this place.
Staff was friendly, service was good considering it was a busy night, live band complimented the atmosphere and made it feel as though we were on a resort in the Caribbean.

Update: After our initial experience, we’ve went back here many times: too much to count. We’ve taken family and friends and they all loved the food, vibe, and atmosphere.

Use to be better, they are falling off! Stingy on the shrimp.get it together chef (s) bring back up the quality of the chow main!

Ordered peppers shrimp from there today and was totally disappointed. It’s like they pan fried the shrimp and just threw on some all purpose seasoning. Only reason for 2 starts instead of 1 was that the server was pleasant.

A couple of days ago I ordered through Skip wonton soup and callaloo soup from Island Mix. What a disappointment. Even though the wonton soup was great with the quantity of wontons given it was not enjoyable because it was LOADED with hot pepper. It totally killed any flavour that might have been. Ease up with the hot pepper in the wontons please. As for the callaloo soup everything was just mushed up there was no actual carrot or okra visible.would have loved to have seen some of the vegetables that were supposed to be in the soup

Consistently amazing eats. I’ve tried almost the entire menu over the years and I have not one complaint. There was a period in March 2021 where dining indoor was allowed and it felt so good to just sit back and enjoy. We were the only patrons dining indoors and the service and food has not faltered.

Protocols are in place to manage COVID prevention like QR code menus, socially distant seating, and capacity limits. I’m so happy to see Island Mix thriving and keeping up during these unpredictable, unprecedented and uncertain times.

I love Island mix food! I recommend their shrimp wonton soup, pepper shrimp appetizer, chicken wings, and mixed entrees. They opened a new location in Oshawa and been around that's how you know they're doing well!

The environment was clean and the dance floor was wide. The food was great and delicious. If you come in tuesday to get half price on wingsthe experience here was great. I would highly recommend.

Used to hit this place for lunch any time I was in town. Miss the lunch buffet, can't wait till we're back to normal.

The food was decent but not amazing. Seemed a bit rushed but good enough cause we were hungry. Hit items were, veggie fried rice, crab wonton, General tao and plain fried wings. The misses were, veggies chow main, bbq boneless bites, chili chicken and black bean chicken was very Salty. Overall it was ok.

Calamari and shrimp wonton.all other food is over-rated.staff is polite and professional. I would go here for a drink and go somewhere else to eat.

I constantly stop grabbing some food in this spot. I enjoyed the rapid customer service and well prepared dishes. They never disappoint.

Disappointed with the type of service tonight. Sept 26th 2020. Food was very dry. The waitress did her best but the chef need to learn to maintain the quality of food being served. I am a regular at island mix, so we brought our gf here for her birthday. Was soo disappointed and embarrassed. All we spoke of island mix and this is what we received. They need to change the chef that worked that night. Seriously.

This place has been consistent for the last 15 years! Great vibe. Good service. Island food made with love. They do a lot of catering too. Curry Goat Roti is a must. Doubles. Lowmein special. All amazing!

Food is always good however, someone needs to fix the service for ordering take out over the phone, message keeps repeating itself despite following the prompts with no one answering.

One of the better Caribbean food in GTA. The hot sauces is a must try. I would recommend anyone from the East end to check this place out! Great atmosphere and wonderful service.

We had Island Mix cater a very important event for us and they blew it out of the park. Everyone loved the food and there was plenty of it. Everything was ready on time and presented beautifully. Thank you to all at Island Mix for making our event a huge success.

Friendly atmosphere with nice music in the air! Great for a group night out. Tasty food, and a must try 'Spicy Fire Shrimp' dish.

Food is always good, before the owner change, the attitude of the staff was rediculously unnecessary. I don't see those people anymore so kudos to the new management and, now, great customer service.

Our food was made quickly and ready for pickup soon after we arrived. The waiter took care of my bill quickly and then delivered the food to me at the bar. We enjoyed the food as we always do and we'll definitely be ordering more from the in the future.

Reasonable portions for the amount. My favourite dish is the shrimp and fried rice. You definitely get your moneys worth and is great for a 2nd lunch the next day!

Took them 10 minutes to come and take our order and it wasnt even that busy you need to train these people properly

I love the food at Island Mix and the staff are so pleasant. Unfortunately, the service is excruciatingly slow. I've been here many times and it can take up to thirty minutes just to get a glass of water, and then I have to wait again for the server to come and take our order. I really wish the service could be better here, but the good food and fair price keeps me coming back regardless.

It was amazing! The music was amazing! The food was amazing! The atmosphere was amazing! And the service was amazing! I would recommend to people who hasn’t been there to go there. It an amazing place! When I went in it, it actually felt like a party, everyone was dancing and laughing and enjoying their time there. There was also amazing vibes!

Awesome atmoshere and great food. Staff was friendly and fast. I enjoyed my eating experience here. GPS was not to good at locating this strip mall but I finally got there and it was well worth it.

Foods always good atmosphere is nice bar tenders are nice waiters and waitresses are basically non existant. Took half an hour for someone to finally come to the table. Other than this one (pretty annoying) problem, the rest is great

This place never disappoints. Great food and drinks. Whenever family are in town, this is my go to spot.

Came for the weekend buffet at noon and the food looked like it had been out to long and it was all mushy looking. Luckily we had the menu option, but not what we came for

The security is the worst in the world Marlon Reid is wack head security very racist and most bias person I've ever met I wouldnt recommend this place until the person is fired!

The place you want to be for nice Guyanese food, the portion is amazing, reasonable price, friendly staff, music is good for dancing. Loved it.

Probably one of the best Caribbean food places in Durham Region. Short wait times for pick up, Excellent service when dining in and perfect sized portions. You will be and feel satisfied.

Staff was efficient and friendly. Food was very tasty. We went for the weekend breakfast buffet and it's so cost efficient. $12.99 all you can eat and bakes, soda roti and paratha roti made fresh to order. Definitely worth trying.

I like it there. The food is usually good and portions are a reasonable size. The decor needs to be updated but I go there mainly for the food so I keep returning:)

Good food, yes.
Overpriced, yes.
And it takes forever to pick-up food if you have ordered ahead of time.
But again, food is good.

Bad service. Was in the pool area for 15 min nobody came had to go to bar to order. Brought out wings no napkins or plate for bones.ordered coke forgot abt it. Got a bucket of beer instead of putting the ice on top of the beer they put but the ice and placed the beer on top.

Always messes up orders and cancels without calling the person ordering directly. Unbelieveable how many times this happens and they do not have any compensation or satisfaction when you're waiting for over 30 minutes thinking your food will be delivered shortly. Also food items listed on menu (caribean or Chinese side) one closes before the other and there is no clarification on this so we as customers know what to order vs what not to order.

We were not really happy this time, we ordered 4 different dishes, all 4 meals came separately, in which we let pass, but when our Roti came out, we had to put it together, (like all the meat and sauces we had to put into the pastry.) I have never had any chicken bones in a Roti before and this chicken was full of tiny bones. The first time we went everything was perfect, this time was totally disappointing. We probably won't go back.
