This chain has really gone downhill. Was in recently and they have a new menu. For what used to be a pretty decent roadhouse, a step up from Kelsey’s, to only have 9 apps, 3 of which are poutine, two tacos (which make a comeback later as a main option as well) seems off the mark. I get it’s a bar, but does the music have to be so loud? Waiters can’t hear you, evidenced by the fact they don’t bring what you ask for. The beer is a chintzy pour, leaving an inch shy at top. The whole approach looks like they are trying to save money by charging lots for a little. The lobster crab dip app.for $20 was a measly serving. My steak was cooked as requested, but another diner had chicken Parm and the tomato sauce was weirdly sweet.
Had a great time meeting up with some friends tonight. It's the first time in a LOOOONG time I've sat down and eaten at a restaurant and it was great. Service, food, atmosphere.they even had Sabian cymbals on the walls and light fixtures!
Christa B was fantastic! Excellent service and never had to wait! Her friendly demeanour was welcome and added to the experience. 100% would recommend!
New menu? Chicken fingers which have always been the go to meal option @ Jack Astors aren’t what they once were. Seems they changed to a smaller / generic product…. Not much better than my frozen home variety I can toss in my air fryer. Idk. The Caesar salad romaine was thin and not crunchy… hard to describe but it wasn’t what I remembered either? Should have gone across the street to CJ’s.
Liked the vibe of the place, the food was great however even tho the servers were nice they were tunnel visioned to their own tables. Our server seemed a little uptight and nervous but seemed to relax towards the end of the meal.
Not a bad visit all n all but the Caesar dressing was awful and lettuce wasn’t crispy, seems like it was a remake or sat in the warm air for too long. I actually worked for JA for 5 years back in the day so I notice these things. Bar had no Guiness and they removed Guiness tap. I’d probably go somewhere else next time. Was very mediocre
One star only given for the GREAT service, Shaun was very polite and respectful, otherwise I would've given 0 stars. Water glass was very dirty as seen in this picture. If this is due to being old plastic, they should buy new sets of glasses then. I had a classic margarita which was nothing near a classic margarita, full of ice cubes, served in a wrong glass (pop's glass), the mix was so heavy and not tasty. Ordered a pound of wings, it comes with NO fries and priced at $16.99 which is way higher than any similar restaurant in Newmarket. Dry, old (not fresh), inside undercooked and cold wings. This place used to be way better, not recommended, go to any other similar place like Montana's, Kelseys or others.
I went with my 4.5yr old and they were great with him. The food was delicious and quick, which is awesome when you have a hungry little one who is still working on patience.
Came in with my daughter and was treated quite poorly by my waitress not honestly sure why maybe didn’t feel that she make a good enough tip on our bill as it’s just the two of us. Couldn’t get out of there fast enough so very uncomfortable did not want to stay
Honestly, I am just confused about my food from jack astors.
I ordered the Thai curry or whatever Through Uber eats.
Everything else was great but this Thai curry thing
It had long strings of cilantro, over cooked sweet potatoes… cucumbers? That were now warm from the rest of the plate.most of the snap peas were unprepped. I just don’t know what to make of this disaster.
The sauce was good and all but over all this was just a strange thing to TRY to eat. I don’t know what I expected when I ordered Thai food from a place like this, but it definitely wasn’t that.
Staff was great! Not impressed with the Nachos. Not enough beef or cheese. Mostly just chips. Update: I didn't mean to give such a great star rating as it didn't match what I wrote above. Manager replies thanking for great review. No apologies for horrible Nachos. I've never had Nachos anywhere that are as good as Lions and Sun in Sharon. Jack Astors is a huge bar, big overhead and cheating out on food portions. Maybe have less TVs and focus on improving your food. Hope my review is more clear now.
Really enjoyed the food and loved the staff even more! If you're really lucky, you will get Leandra as your waitress! What a down-to-earth and sweet girl. Great service.
I just want to say thank you to Leandra. She was absolutely fantastic. She was accommodating and even remembered some of us from previous visits. She was down to earth, human and was very happy and cheerful the whole time. She will definitely be the reason I will return to this Jack Astors.
Went here for a quick bite to on a Tuesday! Kyle was awesome and his service was awesome! Talked a bit and was really friendly! We ordered nachos and guac. Guac wasn’t good and nachos had enough ground beef on it to cover a pigs eye! Enough cheese to cover my finger nail. Skimpy skimpy on the accoutrement for the nachos. Don’t recommend! Please don’t send me a reply saying I need to email my concern please ️ McDonald’s is next door and would advise strongly eating there
We totally enjoyed our first experience at this location. The service was slow (guess still having staffing issues post pandemic) but we were compensated more than adequately. Great Serving.
On our way back from the cottage we stopped in for a quick meal at a reliable place we’ve enjoyed in the past. After completing the contact tracing info on my phone to gain entry, I was then asked by the hostess for my full name and contact info again. I politely asked why that was needed since I just completed this online. No explanation could be provided other than they can’t access that information and need to collect it twice. After I refused and now had 4 hostesses surrounding us all saying the same thing at the same time and none providing a satisfactory explanation as to why they require personal contact information to be collected twice they offered to get the manager. At that point I said we’d be eating elsewhere and sadly we will never be eating at Jack Astors again.
Order the vodka fish and chips. Worst thing I've ever had. Also got the poutine and the gravy was cd and the cheese wasn't melted at all. The only ok thing was the coleslaw, pretty sad really.
I'll eat at McDonald's next door in the future and steer clear of this "joint"
Use to be my go to place for family. Thought of supporting them, but was denied service as one of us is unable to wear a mask. They are being discriminatory, against people who cannot wear a mask. The hostess were also rude. Places like this don’t deserve to be patronized. Would not recommend this place, nor return to this place ever in my life. Other restaurants on the street were accommodating for those who can’t wear a mask, where servers provide much better service.
Just very bad services, unfriendly stuff, not professional attitude towards visitors, maybe someone had a headache or had critical days, but we are just people and your clients, we pay you money
The seating area was very nice.what was not nice about this is that the food didnt taste good.lm am very dissapoited in the servive.l recommend not to eat here.
This place is top notch! Highly recommend and will be back very soon! Great vegan/plant based menu section, staff are so kind and patient, very family oriented and felt at home with my chatty toddler lol. Our order came quickly and tasted great, portions were big for the price!
Staff was friendly, there was a wait time but they were very fast with updating us as lots of people whom had booked tables were no shows. Food was great and my server was very friendly!
Recently came here for dinner with my family and the service was fantastic and food was fantastic. Had the chance to meet Dan who was super friendly and went out of his way to ensure we were having a great time.
Went there and was denied service for not wearing a mask due to medical exemption. The hostess had the audacity to overstep and tell me to show her proof of my doctors note, was so proud of herself for asking for it. I was hungry and didn’t have the energy to inform the hostess of the following: the privacy act where an individual does not have to provide personal medical information to anyone, the law; a place open to the public must serve the public, and as under the human rights act you cannot discriminate against someone who has a medical disability. The craziest part is i went there last week and had 0 problems was seated and serviced no questions asked no dirty looks. So i asked for the manager. When I asked the manager what was the difference between now and a week ago now all she could do was shrug her shoulders. Shameful. I thought the manager would be educated in legalities of business practices for dealing with the public. Wrong. I used to come here often now i will no longer.
Had take out last night despite not looking forward to it. You see, I live in richmond hill and have been ordering takeout from that location which has been horrible each and every time. After reluctantly deciding to order at this location, I was so happy I did because my faith in Jacks has been redeemed! The meal was hot even though the drive home was longer, the pan bread tasted almost as if we were dining in. My bow ties were a good portion, chicken was not burnt and the sauce tasted perfect! Great job Newmarket! I will be back!
First-rate atmosphere and super friendly service. The food was crisp and delightful. Will absolutely recommend this place to others. Convenient prices and generous meals. Great work.
Eat, dance, hang out, drink a good beer for cheap-if you like it, then welcome. This is not a place where people sit quietly. But it's not a starry night, the contingent is normal, no one has ever fought with me, there the bartenders sort everything out - they throw out very drunk and dangerous
This restaurant is the one I like best. I visit plenty of restaurants but to this restaurant I constantly return again and again. The team is very cordial and the food they serve is so good. I am always happy to have a good meal in this restaurant. Highly recommended.
Very efficient restaurant. 20 min from call to have 3 courses 4 meals all were ready for pickup. Sound an excellent management and perfect kitchen manager (that why I took pic from their names). Well prepared and perfectly packed. The wonderful girl (SKIPPY) with nice smile welcome us for pick up (nice Customerservice). Asked kids and wife rate the food quality; over all is 5 stars.
Great location, prefer it over the Barrie location. Alex our server was great! Half priced bottles of wine Sun - Tues was also a steal. Only complaint was the very tiny portion of guacamole with an overwhelming amount of tomatoes on top: (less than a spoonful worth of guac for $10. Other than that, everything else was great!
Ordering take out is very frustrating when you clearly outline what you dont want on something and then it arrives with those items in it. Ordered caesar salad asking for only crumble parmesan cheese, no dry onion mix or capers and sure the capers werent on it but who wants to pick through a salad to take the other stuff off. Sure could have got a new one in the restaurant. I understand there is no tip being made off the take out but get it right or create an opportunity for your "guest" to get what they ordered or don't offer take out. I gave 3 stars because the bruschetta and the chicken fingers and burger were correct. So my kids were happy.
Always decent, but I realized they must use tap water for their glasses of water cause I couldn't even finish my meal, Newmarket tap water makes me sick.
We always go there on Sundays because they have half price wine! We always get the same white wine! But 2 weeks ago they charged us full price! When we told them they said they will give us %15 discount but when i came home I realized it’s %5 first I thought maybe she forgot to punch 1 to make it %15! But I checked with my friends and the said the same thing. Also the stake was not like always and I requested to be changed, again was not my favourite.
Service was excellent, I had an issue with my burger and it was taken care of immediately and with out question. As well as the manager came out to make sure everything was good.
Just went for a quick bite for a late lunch, service was excellent, and food was served fast and hot. We ordered chicken quesadillas for appetizers and messy wings, chicken parm, chicken fingers, and the Thai curry bowl for our mains. Everything was fresh and well prepared, and tasted good. Great job.
Really nice server. Disappointed in lots. My nachos barely had any chesse. The booth hurt my back because the seat moved. Took too long for pop. Just not a fan. Ugh
An absolutely amazing experience! Leandra was such a thoughtful and caring server and everything exceeded high expectations. We had the nachos and the lobster dip, caesars and the brickhouse cider! We will certainly be back! Perfect!
Haven't been here in a while but happy to have been today.
As.always, the place is clean and comfortable with two areas to choose from to eat, bar siade and dining room side.
We chose the dining room side and it was nice and quiet. Our server, Pam, was pleasant and took care of us well.
My wife and I had burgers. Mine was with fiesta and hera with a salad. Size and quality was perfect and did cost much more than your typical fast food burger combo.
Service was slow, food wasn't very good either. They also messed up our order for Nachos. We ended up with a small plate of chips with just a bit of melted cheese on top. Trying to get extra salsa to get some flavor was fruitless, as the server brought it just as we were done eating.
Came here years ago and ran into town here and now better then ever. Loved the food and meal was delicious and yes left with fresh bread and had a great cappuccino.
I actually really used to love going here, until a few days ago. My friends and I were eating our app, and noticed a bug at our table was crawling out of the rolled up napkins/silverware. We got moved to a new table, and were promised that the app would be comped and that we would get another one - we didn't. We were also told the manager would come out immediately- she didn't. I then ordered a root beer, which THANKFULLY comes in it's own bottle because the glass they gave me was dirty (I added the picture), and then after I was halfway done with my veggie burger, I lifted up the bun and saw a dead bug melted into the cheese (picture is there as well) I've never felt so disgusted and grossed out. Server was wonderful, and really nice. She seemed really embarrassed, and I felt bad for her. Only 35 minutes after the first bug situation, did the manager come out to speak with us about the second bug incident. I still had to pay for the one alcoholic drink I ordered, and root beer which I personally think should have been comped. But I paid it anyways with no disagreements, and still tipped because it wasn't the waitresses fault. But I will never eat here again. This place was dirty.
Leandra was super friendly and fun and gave us the best service. My friends and I had a great time. Leandra took great care of us and created a wonderful atmosphere with her positive attitude. Loved the service and would highly recommend this location.
Back in our home town for dinner. Glad we decided to eat here. Food is real good! My husband had the chicken finger with a poutine and was very much happy. I had the classic burger with fries and loved every bite. If you happen to have a server by the name of Andre, I hope you enjoy his presents as much as we did. Highly recommend this place and will absolutely return.
I tried their version of poutine I forgot what it was called but it was fantastic lol and of course their pan bread all kinds of things great atmosphere great food
This restaurant provides consistently good service, friendly and efficient wait staff, and a good menu. It's a great option for reasonably-priced, casual dining with kids, family and friends. We started going there when our kids were very young and they were always accommodating. Now that we have young adults, they all still really enjoy the Jack's atmosphere. Over the years each of our 3 teenage kids asked to reserve the "Elvis Booth" for one of their parties and they had a great time with their friends.
Ok so this time at Jack's we had the kids with us and got seated quickly on a tuesday. Drink orders quickly and kids menu was big with lots of good options. $5 beer promo on now is good. Orders were fed quickly but food (one of our kids' items and ours) took FOREVER. Usually a recipe for a 1 star rating but the server addressed the issue before we could ask and said she already spoke to the manager and they were taking care of everything. Thought maybe she was talking about the kids menus, but no, she meant EVERYTHING! We just paid for the beer.
