Jack Lee's Tavern Restaurant

The restaurant is dirty, there is practically no service. The food was very limited choice, all drowned in sauce with no spice and no taste. The only thing good is the price. I wouldn't mind the limited food choice if the food was good since the price is very reasonable. Too bad.

I'm going to be honest. This was the absolute worst food I have ever tasted. The recycled rice was burnt, no amount of sweet and sour rib juice could mask the flavor. The chicken wing was putrid, like foul fish tasting, it was clearly rotten and after one bite I had to spit it out. It was the worst dining experience I've had ever. I'm not trying to sensationalize or be over dramatic, but this was horrible. Read the rest of my reviews I am always fair. This was the all you could eat supper buffet on may 9th 2023 @ 440pm. My wife and I could not finish any food after the putrid chicken wing, i came home and used mouth wash repeatedly.
Not to mention the cook coming out to stir the buffet food wearing jogging pants and a torn t-shirt that I wouldnt even wear to paint my basement. He looked like he was homeless. I paid my bill and will never return. Even if you paid me to eat there I would rather starve.

I don't get the hype behind this place.none of the few options at the buffet taste like anything and are barely edible at best. Takeout isn't much better. At least the guy working there was nice enough to give us a free can of Pepsi while we waited for our order to be done, so that's something I guess.

Was the best cat I ever had but I don't really like cat so not for me. 20$ buffet with tax good fries and red sauce I call dragon blood that has Chinese benifit to take risks like eat that food.

Havent been in here in 30 years or Cornwall.went for nostalgic reasons and everthing was exactly the same, even the booster seats my sister used to sit in back in the 80, s were still there! Prices were fantastic! In Ottawa it would have cost at least 5 $ more per person
Everything was like I remembered even the red heating light. The food was pretty good but i gave it 3 Stars because the rice tasted burnt almost like it was the bottom of the wokor cooked in a birty wok and the ribs were chewy almost as of they were cooked from frozen.but aside from that my experience was as expected

Just plain awful food. 5/15/23 the chicken wings were good and that’s it. Everything else was trash.

Thought we would stop by and check this place out. Some reviews are good and some are bad. After attending I would say it's bad. SMALL BUFFETT only had chicken balls and ribs as the protein. Had frech fries, rice and some type of noodles. There was a vegetable dish of celery and broccoli, had egg rolls as well. My wife had the only soup which was wonton but it was good. No salad and only jelly and rice pudding for dessert.

Needs more items yet the place was busy for lunch- go figure

Use to like Jack Lee's. I understand prices are going up everywhere.but we were there last night and now they put the price up 10.00. That's OK.problem is their very small buffet consists of 2 tubs of rice, 2 tubs cauliflower/broccoli. 2 tubs of sauces. A macaroni dish, that nobody hardly eats, chicken balls has very small pieces of chicken in them, and the desert consists of rice pudding and rubbery jello. Very drab buffet.they are going to lose business if they don't make their buffet a little more interesting for the price. Sorry Jack Lee's.you've lost a few customers.

Wonton Soup is the best part of the buffet followed closely by the chicken wings. Small selection, but appropriately priced as such. The restaurant atmosphere is still in the 80s but I think that adds to the environment! Friendly staff, can't wait for my next buffet FEED!

Been going to Jack Lees since I was a small child, I’m 57 and nothing has changed, it’s delicious every time

I try to order, and they get it wrong because they don't speak English well at all. I repeat myself so many times and still wrong. I'll never order from this restaurant again what a waste of time and money

Best win ton soup, spare ribs, and chicken wings in this city! They are consistently great the buffet is fantastic service is fantastic and love the nostalgia of the décor that remains after many years.

You cant see what the food looks like due to those red heat lamps.the spare ribs and chicken wings were like eating jerky.had to spit them out.rice had a cardboard taste.not sure if it was minute rice.the eggs rolls and chicken balls were very chewy. Veggetable dishes were good and the doors on the bathroom are almost the height of the toilets.felt like I had no privacy.

Two things I did not like was the guest relations service and the food presentation. The people at the counter or receiving area was a little grumpy and all-business like when we came in to inquire about the food and pricing. There was no warmth or cordiality to the interaction.

I also do not understand why they had to use red lights at the buffet table. It is hard to make out how the food looked with the red spotlights directed onto it. You will only ever see the food clearly upon bringing it back to the dining table.

There were also no labels for the food. It will be nice to have some captioning or description as to what the dish is. (i.e. Mixed vegetables, pork spring rolls, general Tao chicken, sweet & sour pork, etc.) I came in with my Muslim friend and he had to inquire which dishes had pork in them.

The saving grace of it all was the really good price for the meal. Dinner was just $14.95 ($16.90 with tax) per adult individual. For the amount of food you can consume that is really fantastic value.

This must be the smallest all you can eat buffet bar that I have ever seen. One reviewer stated that he was coming from a big city and just loved the food. I find his review to be very strange. I come from a big city as well and when my family saw how small the buffet was, we were shocked. Very little choice, available food was warm not hot and not tasty. Decor was nice and staff was nice. I would really like a local to tell me ……has the buffet always been this small (apparently this restaurant has been around for decades) or did it used to be bigger in the past.

Buffet piteux, un riz, macaroni, egg rolls, fèves germées, côté levée, boule de pâte au poulet au goût de poisson. Soupe won tong. Et pas de dessert à part petit biscuit chinois. Le riz était brûlé et le reste de plats pas très chaud. Bref on y retourne pas.

Buffet was delicious but there's not enough variety. Waitress's are great. The place needs to be updated and better lighting it's extremely depressingly dark in there

We had lunch there last week and the food was greasy, the eggrolls were hard, the macaroni tasted strange, but the wonton soup was okay. The owner is not friendly at all. Aside from a decent price, you are better off to eat elsewhere.

Amazing Food but the old man doesn't hear well & shouldn't take orders on the phone anymore & best looking Chinese restaurant in town.

Went there on Mother’s Day. Food was not good at all like the old days. Out of the 15 of us 6 of us have food poisoning. So I do not recommend Maybe it happened to be a bad day for the cooks. I don’t know but it’s was a bad experience and I don’t think I would go back

Best place in town for a proper buffet. It's just an old classic buffet restaurant. Foods good, service is fine, and price is amazing for what you get. Overall I'd eat here once or twice every month if I could.

I visit from large cities, so a trip to this buffet is always on my list when I come to town. Excellent value.
The chicken wings alone make it worth it.
Lunch buffet leaves you wanting more selection, Dinner buffet leaves you STUFFED.
Once you learn to pick out the ribs that are still tender.happy days.

Four stars for what this restaurant is, 3.5 stars for the food.

What this restaurant is:
A staple of the town like Riley's just up the road, this place has been open forever (or at least since my family moved to Cornwall in about '86. I recently visited as a middle-aged man, and have strong memories of the late Mr. Lee himself, who always gave me a friendly smile and a small piece of candy when I went as a young boy.

Very good value for money, this place is all you can eat, but not exclusively so.

Food:
Heavy food that is good but not spectacular. Don't miss the wonton soup that is hidden by the buffet bar:)

Food is great. Got the #17 and there is so much food for two people but so worth the money. Absolutely delicious

My husband & I visited this resturant for supper tonight. Very poor seletion of buffet. Food only luke warm. No shrimp or desert. Will be going else where in future.

The food was delicious, a little pricey but it was worth it, we will stop in on our next visit to Cornwall Ontario

Good food and prices. Dessert choice isn't good but the rest is fine. I would prefer almond cookies and cake instead of Jello and rice pudding. I once went there for 2 days in a row. I'm the type who gets sick easily from fast food but never felt sick from their buffet. And they know how to make vegetables tasty. I kept returning for second servings of vegetables. Their spareribs, soup and chicken are also good.

Had delivery. Worse food ever. Everything in the garbage. Paid by debit, was charged $1.50. Please don't go to that place, it is terrible food. Had to chew garlic spare ribs for 3 to 4 minutes. Full of gristle. Just horrible.

OMG the won ton soup is to die for. I have ordered delivery, but there aren't enough noodles to curb my appetite. Please add more and I won't mind the extra price! I've been going to your restaurant and ordering your food since 1971 you are amazing.

Limited buffet variety and low quality. Missing the classics (Mandarin rice, steam dumplings.). Very disappointed.

Order jacklees tonight delivered at the door with in 30 minutes, everything was really good hot and exceptional. Really pleased will order again.

We ordered take out for 4 Adults yesterday, all the food tasted the same, bland and visually unappealing, we all ended up sick with some vomitting stomach cramps and diarrhea, what a rip-off! NEVER Again!

Because there were three different incidents where people were rude by not observing proper buffet etiquette. One person on two separate occasions that was tasting food from his plate while still in buffet line and one woman picking up the wings at the buffet with her fingers instead of using the tongs provided at the buffet line.

We were here from Sarnia this week and decided to try this place. It is the worst Chinese food we have ever ate!

We were served by Mrs. Lee. If you like greasy Canadian-style Chinese food (what most people think is Chinese food in Corwall) then you will like this place. There is not an extensive buffet, it's quite small, but it has what most Canadians associate with fast Chinese food. The price is very affordable, $7.99 per person so you better not complain there are no crystal balls. An old restaurant that has evidently been around for along time, right in the heart of downtown.

Food is actually good as is price the only complaint would be service as you dont hear from waitress after being seated. Comments about decor and such should not even be an issue as jack lee's has been in town forever open a pretty pic on phone and eat all better lol

Small but adequate selection. Relatively good prices however quality is not as good as other local chinese restaurants. Egg rolls are usually stale, chow mein is shredded and have to fish for good wonton. The other stereotypical chinese buffet items were good.

My mom likes this place, but she often complains that the food is cold. She's had to ask them to throw it in the microwave. She's going less and less.

Always fresh, hot food! Not a large buffet like Montreal but we love it! They just need new updated decor and it would be #1 go to place,

Supper buffet usually consists of mushy leftovers from the lunch buffet. Clean your restaurant.

Nicely maintained and good food, also good price for buffet, I recommend coming here for a nice family seating or reservations for partys, get togethers ect

Ugh, food was terrible, looked old. I ordered off menu and food was cold and unedible, our drinks (soda) tasted flat. Never again

Jack Lee's is a great place if you are looking for a filling meal for a good price. They serve a buffet as well as off a menu. The dinner time has great chicken wings. I remember fondly going to jack Lee's buffet as young child. The decor hasn't changed and either has the food. The staff are constantly bring out fresh food. The drinks a surprisingly cheap. Overall the place is a piece of Cornwall's history. It is a canadain version of Chinese food but it's still pretty awesome. If you are visiting the cornwall area. Check out this little gem in the down town area of pitt st. Jack Lee's, please never change.

New to town? Looking for a Chinese Buffet? Keep looking! Very small selection and not even worth the very reasonable price. Approximately 8 items to choose from, but not all chinese. It was quite busy so I'm assuming that the cook was having a bad day. We were very disappointed and will try another one on our next visit to Cornwall.

The last few times I have gone the spareribs are always hard. Today it was the spareribs egg rolls and wings that were hard. Everything else on the buffet was excellent.

My 2 years old daughter was charged $8.xx which is ridiculous in Canada. Even the food is ok, would never go again.

Same place, same great food. They have not changed the colour or the look of the place in over 30 years but the buffet is still the same.

They charged me for my 20 month old son eating a small plate of food and when i asked about it the one lady got upset about it and says no body eats for free.

Buffet costs about $16ish, not super on the variety, but they serve the common essential dishes all you can eat

Excellent value! Great for a quick lunch. It's definitely not fine dining but the price is right and the service is prompt. The decor is awesome, so classic, unlike anything you really see anymore.

This is not a Chinese Restaurant! It is a gag and puke diner! I have never had elbow macaroni mixed with soy sauce in a buffet! Won Ton soup is clear heated water with mushy pieces of wanton's. French fries in a Chinese buffet!? Have eaten at many many Chinese buffet's, this place sadly gives a bad name to Chinese Buffet's.

I love the buffet at Jack Lee's. It's affordable ($9.05 with tax), and the food is DELICIOUS. Though there's not a huge selection, it's worth the money. The supper buffet is a little more expensive, but also has a few more food options. Some of the staff could be friendlier, and decor hasn't changed in all the years I've been going there, but it works. I've been to many Chinese restaurants all over Canada, and this one is still my favorite.
