Definitely a great place to eat and greet with friends. Always had a lovely time there. Good coffee and sandwiches!

Great vibe with plenty of space to sit down indoors or outside. Great variety of selections and decent WiFi speed.

TL;DR

Java Joe's on Rathburn falls short in providing a conducive environment for studying or getting work done. The lack of outlets, poor seating arrangement, terrible service, and non-functional internet make it a disappointing choice. Save yourself the trouble and go to a Starbucks or the public library instead.

I've got quite a story to share in this review.

Let me start by recounting my recent experience at Java Joe's on Rathburn. My wife and I were looking for a new cafe to work outside of our home, something different from the usual Starbucks or Timmies. That's when we decided to give Java Joe's a try.

Finding parking was a bit tricky, as it's located on the corner of Rathburn and Islington, and space can be limited. Java Joe's shares a plaza with other establishments.

Instead of going through my usual rating criteria for businesses, I'll simply describe my visit to this particular establishment. The moment we walked in, my wife and I were greeted with death stares. We entered, hoping to find a seat first so we could set up our equipment and place our orders once we were settled. It felt like the management was overly eager to inform us that the bathrooms were for customers only. I understand that they might be tired of people misusing the facilities in the area, but not every person entering the establishment intends to use the restroom.

Here's where it gets interesting. Since Java Joe's is an older establishment that hasn't caught up with the 21st century, it took us a good 10 minutes to find a single seat with an outlet and enough space to comfortably work on our laptops. After setting up, we approached the counter, where we were met with two very miserable staff members. I felt like I was a nuisance to them as I asked for a coffee and muffin. When I inquired about the internet password, one of the staff members simply said it was "out. "

After struggling for around 20 minutes, trying to tether the internet to my laptop, I couldn't bear it any longer and decided to leave for a much more productive work environment. I rarely wish for a business to close its doors, but I truly believe that Java Joe's needs a significant update to better serve its community. Honestly, I don't think I'll be returning.

If I could, I would give this place a 0 out of 5 rating. This is not how businesses should operate in 2023.

Went in for a couple drinks and sandwiches. Absolutely horrid and disrespectful customer service, not to mention the nonexistent hygienic practices. The sandwiches were alright but the coffee tasted burnt and the "hot apple cider" more closely resembled microwaved apple juice. Won't ever consider returning.

The staff there was incredibly rude when I ordered coffee there. To add insult to injury, the coffee tasted like water. Don't bother.

Lovely staff and service. I drop in for a coffee or drink but it also has tons of amazing baked and food items.

Lovely coffee shop. Coffee is great and they have lots of food, juice and ice cream options. Surprisingly spacious and lots of seats. It's a local gem. Definitely recommend!

If you need a coffee date or meeting pop in here. Overall a great neighbourhood spot but the service can be very warm or very rude depending on who is behind the counter.

Nice little coffee shop. Friendly staff, good cappuccino. Parking is good at this little strip mall and it doesn't face the street so it is quiet.

Have been going on and off for many years. Pleasant decor, good coffee, deserts and light meals. Recommended.

I really love this place, the food is super good and it's a good place to stay and read a book or having friends, the only complaint is its owner, oh my! He isn't friendly and he is sooo rude, but the other employees are nice and serviceable.
Their system that they have for asking your food it's kind of confused, but you can handle it fast

I went to get a sandwich with my daughter and her husband last week the place is very clean the owner treated my children with warmth and respect and breakfast sandwich on rye was the best breakfast sandwich I ever tried. Great fresh ingredients egg with cheese and lettuce and tomatoe delicious will highly recommend this place even though I live in northyork will be coming here again

Friendly staff and great sandwiches. I had the veggie sandwich on multigrain bread and the guacamole on it was amazing.

Best fresh hot coffee in Etobicoke. Love the hazelnut coffee. With fresh food and pastries you will find something to hit the spot. While your there browse the many gift and specialty items for sale. Say hi to Lino and tell him Sherri sent you.

Great food great service as per their logo! Amazing coffees, food and the service is A1. Staff provides a warm friendly atmosphere which makes for a wonderful visit to Java Joe's at the Islington location.

Been a long time customer. But today was an awful customer experience. There were two food prepers at counter. Nobody greeted us for 3 mins, the male preper bypassed us twice with out saying anything and then just left when he handed the sandwich to the customer before us. This is 3rd world customer service. Not coming back here for a long time!

Java Joe's is the best coffee house in Etobicoke. Great specialty coffees and regular. The desserts and sandwiches are fresh and extremely tasty. Watch those calories. The owner is at the cash and is extremely proud of his establishment. I enjoy his company and interaction. I like the when owner is there. Absentee owners just are not hands on and you do not have the personal interaction. Conveniently located at Islington and Rathburn with lots of parking. The Barista is tops and my large latte is always perfect. Looks of indoor seating as well as outdoor tables for a little sun. A great place and one of my favorites. The carrot cake was to die for. Puts Starbucks to shame. For great coffee lunch or fabulous deserts. You will not be even remotely dissatisfied.

Good selection of coffee. Their Irish Cream was pretty good, as well As the Hazelnut Cream. I tried a Toblerone shortbread and that was also really good. It was not busy when I went at 8: 00PM, so it was pleasant. The service was fine, as well as the person who helped me. The seating is comfy at the back, too.

Their coffee is world class, like really really good. Nice and quite sitting area, plus the friendly staff - one of my go to places for a relaxing meet and catch up kinda of coffee place.

Some food is amazing, some is less than average. Some coffee is great, some is poor. Medium place, medium rating.

Loved this cafe! Super friendly host, tasty sandwich & soup and free good wifi. Environment is super silent and perfect for working or studying.

Great little spot. Very full at 10 30 on a Friday given the location. Great coffee. It was a little noisy as it's not a big place. It looks like they have a lot of regulars. The bacon egg bagel was fine.

A nice, comfortable family run cafe. Almost a small town feel. Food is good so is the coffee and service. Always feel at home. I would recommend a visit by anyone who is in the neighbourhood.
