What a lovely spot by the water. They had gluten free options so I didn't have to just have coffee. Amazing!

Coffee alright.beware if you wish to do work when you eat your lunch or drink your coffee. Staff enforce the most ridiculous rule of no laptops- despite people being paying customers.

Staff member explained to us that "other customers become hostile and it is a perception thing, and other customers get annoyed when they see people eating or drinking with laptops open. "

If you would like to have laptop open while you eat lunch, there are many other places downtown that are more friendly towards those who wish to have a working lunch.

Today I visited this cafe to have lunch, drink some coffee, and do some work. However, after I had already bought a coffee and sat down to do some work, I was told I wasn't allowed to have my laptop out because of how OTHER customers may perceive me. Since when does my being on a laptop as a PAYING CUSTOMER affect other people? Ridiculous. Safe to say, I took my business elsewhere and will NOT be returning. I do not recommend to anyone who wants to visit and do work! The coffee was not even that good!

Wonderful little spot with excellent views of the lake. Friendly staff and great coffee. Good place to go on a Sunday, summer morning!

The food is good and affordable and the scenery there is amazing! My friends and I took many beautiful pics.

Been going there for 3 days straight.their heavenly cream tea is absolutely insanely good.the cookies, also insane, highly recommend the walnut meringue cacao one.amazing service.wish they had more seating area, and i wish they had more work space with desks inside the tett for students to study and such.

Kinda pricy but the salami sandwich is AMAZING. If you have $15 to splurge on a sammy, I can't recommend this one enough. Waterfront patio is beautiful and vibey. Friendly staff.

The food and drinks here are very good but you pay for what you get! They offer locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. Worth the price! The free view is great too!

This is by far the best brunch/lunch spot in town. Dine-in, take out or delivery. The presentation is flawless and the flavours are perfection.
I highly recommend the Juniper Cafe, you won't be disappointed.

Overpriced:

you could get two better sandwiches elsewhere (grocery store even) for the price of one here.the sandwich was 15 dollars for reference

sandwich had too much mayo and tomato sauce, could be likened to a pizza for bread to meat ratio and meat to tomato sauce ratio (not a good comparison to make of a sandwich)

zoomer pizza eating culture may have influenced the decision to put tomato sauce in a sandwich, who knows.this place is adjoined to a university theatre after all

at least two thirds greater the amount of latte elsewhere for the same price as well

extrapolate this and you can garner that other things are likely overpriced as well, even considering our 'modern inflationary environment' (6 dollars and something for a small baked good is perhaps the worst offender other than the aforementioned sandwich)

atmosphere is that of a Starbucks concerning demographics and music type and volume, make of that what you will

Yummy sandwiches and tasty treats. Coffee is expensive considering how small the portion is. Seating available outside right beside the water; makes for a beautiful view.

The chicken sandwich had a pleasant mild taste that's good for those that don't like spicy foods. The cashier was pleasant and patient. The person serving the food made me feel like any request/question was an unwelcome disturbance.

Truthfully we were a bit disappointed in Juniper Cafe, or at least it's breakfast offerings. Unless you want one of their breakfast wraps or a muffin, cookie or the like, you're out of luck. And it's expensive. More of a lunch time place, I think.

The best café in Kingston!
This place became one of my favorites for brunch, the coffee is very good, the breakfast sandwiches are to die for and the cookies are amazing as well.
They also have a cute waterfront patio with gorgeous views

My new favorite cafe! They have the best breakfast sandwiches - very generous size and filling. Beautiful views of the lake too.

This small eclectic cafe is located on the lake shore. I dropped by hoping to grab a sandwich around 5pm but they were out of bread. Oh well, at least the coffee was great. On weekends, parking is free in the big lot up the hill, if you can find a spot.

Visited Kingston many times but never get the chance to visit Juniper Cafe. It is one of the best cafe in Kingston. Located on the river side, with beautiful view.

Here is my food list:

Bread was so fresh and soft. I really enjoyed the place.

You can enter the cafe from two side- Inside the community building (especially for people with mobility problem. Other side is trail walk from river side.

Just read the owner replies to negative reviews. It tells you all that you need to know about what they think of paying customers.

A beautiful afternoon by the lake sipping on turmeric latte. Will come back here to enjoy the patio, drinks and the view.

Was visiting Kingston from out of town and wanted to try a local coffee shop. Glad I found this hidden gem: Juniper Cafe. The Brie-L T and latte was superb! Not the mention the location and view of the water was amazing. Will definitely return!

Great location and atmosphere and they made a good latte, but they aren’t very receptive or accommodating for vegans. They have three vegetarian sandwiches and not one vegan option, and when I called and asked if any of the sandwiches could be made vegan the man who answered sounded very put out by the question and implied that all the sandwiches would be missing something important if they were to veganize them. They have two salads (neither of which are vegan), but I decided to order the fig salad and asked them to hold the cheese. Again, this request was met with a weird amount of hesitation. My friend ordered the regular fig salad and when they were delivered there was not a single fig in either of them! My friend said they normally put a mountain of figs on top, but when we brought it to the employee’s attention she simply brought us each a tiny dish with a few thinly sliced figs in them. So it was pretty pricey for a salad that was no bigger than a side salad and was essentially just mixed greens.
Lastly, most cafes have at least one non-dairy milk option that does not have an extra fee (usually soy or almond), but Juniper charges a flat rate for any milk alternative, which I didn’t appreciate. There’s just no way almond milk and macadamia nut milk cost the same amount, and vegans and people with allergies should not be charged more for trying to bypass animal products. Great playlist though for whoever was on music duty!

Ordered from Uber Eats, over priced, came to about 70 dollars for two people. We ordered two sandwiches, two soups, two cookies and two drinks with an added cinnamon bun and a latte. We received the latte, the two sandwiches, two soups and a raspberry muffin.

Quaint cute cafe by the waterfront! Got a yummy vanilla oat milk latte with a veggie breakfast sandwich. My partner got the Mushroom sandwich which was a decent portion size & very delicious! Glad we found this spot during our weekend getaway.

Definitely a cute little Cafe right by the water! There is a small trail that you can enjoy near the cafe too! The cafe has a great atmosphere and friendly service. The outdoor patio looks like a great spot to relax, and the interior is a great spot to converse and have a quick drink or snack! The little reading nook in the window is definitely a nice touch. Overall the cafe should be on your list if you are visiting the area!

Its my favourite cafe, i love the food here, its delicious and its my favourite coffee and tea place. Their coffee and tea are the best. Its the quality. The people do great job.and i love the view where its located.

I’ll start by saying it was a little hard to find the first time visiting. Unless I missed them, there weren’t any signs to say where in the building it was located. So we walked around aimlessly for about 10 minutes until we saw chairs on a patio down by the water.

I ordered a London Fog & a muffin. Both were delicious. They have a few gluten free options I believe and my friend seemed to enjoy it. Very cute inside, but a smaller space. The patio in the summer would be lovely. Will be back!

When I travel I try and switch it up and try lots of places. Juniper got a rare double visit it was so good! I came and got takeout lunch one day and the spot was so cute I came back for breakfast the next day.

Picture this medieval building right on the river with crashing waves (yes, I swear this happened) and fantastic warm lattes. Quintessential Kingston. Must visit. Get the milk-butter scone.
