My father died this year of cancer, and the staff at the Cancer Centre couldn't have been nicer. But recently I fainted in the night. The next morning, when I called my doctor, they told me to go to the hospital and I ended up in Juravinski Emergency for 11 hours.
I've never come across such a stressed-out, miserable group of staff in my life. The first nurse who saw me lambasted me for not calling 911 in the night, implied that my GP was irresponsible & told me my license would be taken away. When I asked her politely if there was any kleenex (b/c by then I was crying), she replied something to the effect of, "I don't know if we have any, but frankly, that's not really my priority right now. "
When an elderly Indian man whose first language clearly wasn't English, asked her for a mask, she gave him the same snarky reply. She later mocked him in front of everyone in earshot because he hadn't understood her instructions to him. She had made a rather shockingly racist comment to me earlier, presumably thinking because I was white, I would see humour in mocking people who aren't, but that's not my type of humour.
I breathed a sign of relief when she left, but the nurse who came on next was also irritable. I cautiously approached her after hearing nothing from anyone for about 6 hours, and as soon as she saw me approach with a nervous, apologetic smile, she said loudly, "OH MY GOD. At this rate, I'm never going to get ANYTHING done. "
I understand that our healthcare system is a huge mess & that it must be incredibly stressful to be in charge of so many patients, but I can confidently say that if I faint again, I will lie on the floor happily bleeding to death before EVER going back there.

Team here works as hard as they can with short staff issues. I am grateful they were able to help me.

Doctor Jeffrey greenspoon likes harassing women online whilst refusing to give proper treatment to anyone that isn’t “white”. This hospital is filled with confirmation bias that is exasperated upon the prejudice and racist beliefs promoted by such doctors.

I wish I could give no stars at all. Worst hospital in hamilton. Not ALL of their staff but most don’t care how their patients are treated, They left my aunt for 6 hours unattended and she is a type 1 diabetic she went there because she was taking insulin as directed and her levels were still high around 14 when she got there and when i arrived 5 hours later they still haven’t done anything for her she was now projectile vomiting, weak and in severe pain. At this point her levels were at 19.9 they could’ve atleast gave her something to help with the nausea or pain but they treat their patients like a piece of meat. Their ER is even more ridiculous, the receptionist are RUDE and disrespectful why work in healthcare if you hate your job! You’re supposed to care for others yet it seems most staff is just there to get a cheque. I work at a hospital myself and I’m so glad that we at-least have dignity and respect

Juravinski hospital staff has been absolutely Incredible amazing because about a year ago surgery was a success through Dr Dath & his team behind him because of their dedication & very hard work every day during covid,

I am Absolutely Thankful for what they have done for me & my family during this hard time past months to getting closure hopefully soon during current medical circumstances.

If it wasn't for these guys in Hamilton after having a possible cancer diagnosis

Thank you to Mr Dath for everything really Appreciate it & incredible sir the world wouldn't be the same without you.

My husband woke up with partial facial paralysis on one side so we went to a walk in clinic and the doctor suspected it was Bell’s Palsy but recommended we go immediately to a hospital to get tests done to determine and treat any underlying causes. We waited for 7 hours in emergency only to have a brisk 5 minute encounter with the Dr.where she quickly identified the Bell’s Palsy, recommended steroids for treatment and tape for sleeping and said there was a 40% chance of full recovery. She gave my husband a few print outs with this information. When she returned with the prescription, we asked about any diagnostic tests that could be done to identify the cause to which she replied there are no tests like that (to which our first doctor and the internet proved false) and that this is the way we treat it and her job is to treat this episode. I asked if there were preventative measures or if this is likely to reoccur again if this is deemed an “episode” and she said no, she’s never encountered someone to have it twice. I again tried to reiterate what the walk in doctor told us but she kept saying she should have given us a note or referred us to an urgent care centre instead. I am appalled and disappointed with the bedside manner of this doctor and the care we received here. We will likely need to return to a walk in clinic to receive proper care and follow up.

The volunteer was very friendly and helpful. The staff were also very kind and cheerful, notwithstanding the nature of their work.
Some of the furniture in the visitors area was dated, but overall very clean and a good experience as a visitor.

I honestly though I was going to die in that hospital’s ER and no one would’ve cared. If the ambulance ever tells you they are going to this hospital, you’re better off jumping off the ambulance. I had excruciating chest and back pain that I couldn’t lay down or sit straight. I had to keep sitting in a hunched position to tolerate the pain from 10 PM until 2 PM the next day and couldn’t sleep for a minute. At 12 AM they told me that there was only one person ahead of me, fast forward to 4 AM the pain got way worse and I felt my back and chest spamming out of control and the pain became unimaginable. I asked for a pain killer, they said they can’t until I see the doctor! Then I told them that the pain is crazy that they must pay attention to me, and their answer was “sorry the doctor is busy”. Then they just rolled my bed from a partition to the corridor and just left me there (as if this was progress somehow). At 7 AM I asked where is the doctor and they said, oh the shift is over now the new shift is coming and the doctor needs to see a bunch of patients before they see me! Long story short I finally saw the doctor and turns out I had blood clots in my lung due to my leg (that I broke a couple of weeks back). So in other words, when I was having the severe pain, and they simply ignored me, I could’ve died right there and no one would’ve cared! They gave me some meds and told me that I could go back home! Now the pain is back and this was truly TRULY a traumatizing experience that I’d rather stay home and die than go to that hospital! Nurses were rude too and I have been nothing but stupidly nice to them which I honestly shouldn’t have as they treated me like an animal. Please stay away from this place

I was rushed to Juravinski in November, 2022 with a serious bacteria infection. I Jumped the que because my death was imminent vs.other surgeries at the time. Dr. Steven Kelly operated on me within hours of arrival and with the help of the CT scan, he realized that I had gangrene and that I was 1-2 days away from death. He operated and I spent a week in ICU and another week recovering on the 6th floor, and I have never been healthier. My wound has healed from the inside out and I have never felt better. I have had several follow-up visits with him, and I keep telling him that I owe my life to him. Imagine getting the Chief Surgeon to operate on me. There was a tag above my belly button that said ostimy bag, but it wasn't necessary due to his skills of surgery and fixing the problem. I intend to donate a substantial amount to Juravinski on my death, if not before.

Our Ontario Health Care system is BROKEN! One visit to this hospital and you will understand what bad service & health care us Canadians get! This Emergency Room need to be REVAMPED from TOP to Bottom! I would give 0 stars but that's not available!
25 July 2023 2:48
I would have given 0 stars if that was an option. My 95 year old father just passed away at Jurivinski Hospital E2 Orthopedic Ward. I can not begin to list the negligence of this ward, from not getting prescribed medication to NO COMMUNICATION. My father had dementia and developed dillerium in the hospital, not once in a month did we get called by a doctor, even after requesting a call. When we confronted the Dr.about not returning our call, he said it was after 4: 30 pm and he finished at 4: 30 pm. He was ready to go to Rehab when he contacted Covid; there was Covid on the ward.
They decided to lock down the Ward, no visitors. They moved my 95 year old father with mental issues to a room by himself with NO WORKING PHONE. We were promised Zoom calls that never happened. We asked for a caretaker (daughter) to be allowed access. They said NO. My sister talked to the nurse taking care of him one afternoon and the nurse was dismissive saying "your father isn't going to die"; my father died the next morning.
I am not saying that their negligence caused his death but SHAME ON YOU for treating any human being like that!

PS. I am somewhat amused by the responses to the negative reviews, reach out to "patientservices" and nothing will happen.
16 June 2023 23:16
This is the worst hospital. If you want to go to maybe a better one, don't go to this one. My boyfriend had a seizure and had tests done and they put him in the hallway because there were no rooms and he was there for probably over 8 hours and still in the hallway and even after he was finally ready to go home, they didn't give him anything and he was still in the hallway waiting for a room and never got into one, so I wouldn't waste your time here at all. The check in representative was so rude and wouldn't give any information on what was going on either. I would not recommend going there
10 June 2023 15:58
Took my son here today nurse was so great made everyone fell so comfortable was such a great experience
17 May 2023 9:17
Can only give one star in order to write a review, but this hospital is a serious JOKE! My friends mother is in there with stage 4 lung cancer and COPD, they clearly do NOT screen people because they put a person that was POSITIVE for Covid in the bed next to her! So now she has Covid! Something SERIOUSLY needs to be done! Not to mention when they test the patients there sending the tests down to St Joes… is Jurvinski not a hospital? ! Jurvinski is honestly a joke of a “hospital”
09 May 2023 22:28
My girlfriend had an appointment at the cancer center at 11am. It is now 2: 27pm and absolutely no service as of yet. That is unacceptable and everyone should know this when choosing where to go for Healthcare. And people wonder why Canadians go to America for better service
25 March 2023 13:16
For patients to wait an average of 10 hours for seeing a doctor. That's dispicable. Did not provide me with anything to stabilize my fractured wrist til 10 hours later. Got out 1115pm at night.
14 March 2023 4:49
Juravinski hospital is the best hospital in hamilton. They treat you like you are a human being with respect, kindness, and compassion. The wait times are short compared to other hospitals. They have saved my life twice! Excellent care
26 February 2023 6:49
I had the occasion to seek medical attention at the hospital on two occasions, and I was extremely impressed with the level of care that was exhibited by all parties. The nurses, doctors, and other staff members on the Same Day Surgery Unit were caring, and made my experience an exceptionally pleasant one. I wish them and their families all the best, and thank them for reminding me that there is still hope for us humans in this ever changing world. Kudos to you all.
27 January 2023 8:21
Only doing one star cause I have to to wright this review. I took my daughter here and we waited 1 hour in the waiting area. We were then moved to a bed and waited 61/2 hours until we were seen. While waiting the nurses kept looking at us and not even checking on us. They were very cranky. When the resident dr came in did his assessment and said my daughter was fine. He was going to get the dr to see if he thinks his diagnosis was right. She came in and said your fine go home and talk to your family dr. Not to mention this hospital is very dirty. Save your time and go to a better hospital.
24 January 2023 7:06
Had lab work done this morning and visit with Dr followed by ECG at main hospital. All personnel were friendly, efficient and working hard to to reduce wait times.
21 January 2023 7:53
I’m only giving it a one star because that’s what’s needed to actually write a review. My boyfriend went in last night for chest pains as he’s been having them a lot lately and heart problems run in the family. We’ve been here 11 hours and are still here waiting. He’s had two ekgs, two blood draws, X-rays and it’s been four hours without seeing a doctor. The nurses are extremely rude. We got kicked out of the room we were in to be put in recliner chairs only to be kicked out of then and put in a regular chair. This hospital has went down over the years. Not once did I see someone cleaning or sanitizing. The room we were in had dust on the dresser. Never mind the floors or chairs being wiped down. But as of right now I’m sitting across from a lady with contagious droplets with no mask. They all stand around giggling laughing.
20 January 2023 1:05
My care here on my visits for (unfortunately) a number of kidney stone attacks has always been professional with the doctors explaining things with laymen terms for better understanding. Yes there is unfortunately a long wait but this as no fault of the nurses and doctors; please treat them with respect. Location is thankfully closeby to where I live.
18 January 2023 18:04
I always go to the gift shops best places to get gifts all year around but Christmas is my favourite time
14 January 2023 23:35
One of the worse places to go to. I had medical emergency with severe kidney pain and was screaming in pain for more 2 hours. No pain killer or first aid was given, upon asking, nurse told me she couldn't help until doctor comes.
These people just don't care, they don't have proper first aid system.
08 January 2023 12:19
I hate this hospital two of the nurse they was fighting with my husband we was waiting for 7 hours
07 January 2023 7:01
Didn't take my blood pressure or anything at any point, doctor didn't let me speak and didn't seem to interested in what i and to say at all. He gave me the wrong perscription and told me nothing about my illness and I almost died! Never coming here again
25 December 2022 23:59
I came from my chemo therapy for 10 AM my appointment but four hours later I’m still in the waiting room waiting for my chemo to start every time you talk to them and ask them what is going on i have been here more than 4 hours waiting for my chemo they tell me we are short of staff very bad staff with attitude not I go to hospital I wish I could be referred to a different hospital
13 December 2022 6:14
One of the most efficient, polite and compassionate group of doctors, nurses and hospital staff. I visited the ER twice. Kudos to you guys, please keep up the good work.
10 December 2022 15:49
I have been seeing Dr. Bali, for my arthritic knee and he has been wonderful to deal with, as has his Assistant Amanda. Today I was there and dealt with him, as well as another resident and fellow and just wanted to share how pleased I am with everyone in that Orthopaedic clinic - I even witnessed another technician apologize to someone for them having had to wait for an extra 5 minutes! Seriously, everyone is kind, understanding and patient. 10/10
02 December 2022 7:31
So far our experience here has not been great. The attending doctor, Dr. Cox in E3 Medicine lacks any compassion and drive to actually help patients. We don't get to see a doctor very often so when we do, obviously we have a lot of questions and would like to raise some concerns we have. Instead of responding to these things he yawns and gives out the same dry, robotic response. He didn't give any updates on tests that were being done and I had to initiate that conversation. All he asked was if there was any pain currently. If there was pain I would tell a nurse and they regularly ask those questions anyway. So what is the point of this doctor?
23 November 2022 20:57
I just had one of the most traumatic experiences of my life in this hospital. I was admitted because I fell unconscious, and when i woke up i was paralyzed from anxiety: i couldn’t move, speak, or make decisions. I tried my best to tell the staff that i was having a mental health crisis but my ability to communicate was not what it usually is. There was one nurse in particular that made me feel extremely awful, she was short tempered and made me feel like a burden. I really wish that there were social workers or mental health nurses on duty because I was going through something extremely traumatic, and the visit to this hospital only made it far worse.
19 November 2022 22:55
Worst hospital in the city the staff don’t actually care about patients at all and will neglect them for hours at time while they are in pain, doctors are supposed to care for people not push them away because they can’t be bothered with their patient’s and yes do understand hospitals are busy by again 6 hours is a long time leave a patient unattended
12 November 2022 23:57
Imagine a hospital that has an 84 year old woman lying in a bed in the hallway for 2 days. Not even in a room. Her Grandson comes to visit her, as her first guest of the day. The nurse decided to attack the grandson right away regarding his mask exemption. The grandson politely said he was exempt and that he was only visiting for 15 minutes. The nurse proceeds to contact security to have him kicked out. What type of human being would do such a thing? Do you have any compassion? I know being a nurse is a horrible life but do you need to make others purposely miserable as well? Anyways my grandma will be home soon and ill go back to smiling everyday. Enjoy your face diapers.

Tested positive for Covid at home. Symptoms escalated. As per advise from Telehealth was asked to go to ER and see a doctor to get started on Paxlovid. After 8 hour of waiting was told, I qualify and the doctor who was a resident went to write prescription. His superior overrode him. He came back to me saying I don't qualify and they need to preserve for other cases as they are in short supply. He said " In that way you are unlucky. Come back when you have more serious issues and we will take care of you then". Just letting you know. You be the judge.
09 November 2022 17:18
Emergency experience from start to finish was 5 stars. Anyone who complains about a hospital are the same people who complain about cashiers being too slow. If you can’t do the job yourself than stop criticizing the people who can, THAT YOU NEED! Loves this hospital!
12 October 2022 16:27
Last month I was admitted to Juravinski hospital for failed gallbladder removal surgery in Burlington. Dr. Dath took care of me and fixed the problem and saved my life. During my stay in ICU for four days I was pleasantly surprised by the care given to me by all the Doctors, Nurses and other staff. Even though there is extremely shortage of the staff, all the nurses were very extremely helpful, compassionate and took good care of me. I cant thank enough to all of them. Keep up the good work.
12 October 2022 15:10
Scheduled for surgery, and called minutes before the admission time, we were in the turn lane to the hospital entrance and informed the surgery was canceled due to unavailability of post op bed space. Travelled there, took time off work, and turned away 30 mins before admission. I am sure if the positions were reversed there would be a penalty, but we were just told to continue with our day. I know this is the state of our much touted health care system, but this is unacceptable… now on to another few weeks of anxiety, pain and potential death because we can’t keep up with demand. Shame.
04 October 2022 8:06
Unfortunately it’s becoming the worst hospital in the area, while they were one of the good hospital before, staff n the ER are so rude and they don’t care, for sure not all of them, but what I have seen in the 2 days are the worst staff ever, by the way, writing this review while Iam still in the ER.
18 September 2022 17:47
I’ve been to this hospital Sunday and now Tuesday. Wait is extremely long, I’m throwing up, headache, intense lower abdominal pain, nausea, and crying. I’ve had to wait 8 hours to get a bed.

Amazingly generous caring team of doctors nurses surgeons and even the food was great. My story is a long one and I am going to try my best to shorten it down to the nitty gritty
I had been struggling with heavy opiate addiction for 12 years. Lost my house and was managing to go from couch to couch but was always one day away from a bench in the park. Early October, colder out. Couldn't find a place I could afford and I managed to get motel room for one week and it was all my money. I was going to have to figure out something really fast. But. At least I had a place to stay for the week. I slept.
Early morning. Woke to a familiar agony. Kidney stones. I called an ambulance. They were quick to ease my pain run tests and discovered a mild infection rearing its ugly head. I was given 2 prescriptions a taxi voucher to get back to my room and told me that if I found I was having unmanageable pain I was to get back to see them.
I had missed my dose of methadone that day but I was going to go first thing in the morning. No worries. I would fill my scripts while I was at my clinic. Bf was at work and was to back in the morning after his night shift. I slept very.
At some time I woke up to a raging fever, urinary tract infection pains and that damn one was on the move again
Called the ambulance, called bf and asked him to come to the hospital for the keys in the morning.
I was in significantly worse shape than the day before
I was told that I had a fairly bad bladder infection and it had actually began spreading out. I was becoming septic and pretty fast
They decided that I should be admitted and started on IV fluids, much stronger antibiotics pain meds and made sure they were checking on me often. After 2 more overnight stays I was surrounded by a TEAM of specialists, students and was told that they were not having as much success clearing up this infection and after several visits and checks and discussions the team decided that I would be going in for minor surgery to insert a stint up into my urinary tract. And after that I would be monitored for the next day and likely discharged once my fever had gone down.
I think I was looking at close to the end of my paid motel stay and I had more boxes and belongings than I would be able to simply lug around while walking the streets and officially homeless. I got increasingly anxious with each passing day. My nurse noticed and asked me what was wrong. I broke down and told her everything. I was going to be released from the hospital the day after minor surgery
