I took my boy Marley there he wasn’t doing well.
I explained that he had an ear problem As well as drooling and not acting normal.
They took his temperature that was high.
Looked at his ears and dismiss the issue.
Charged me $350 for a nadeau needle and some pain meds.
Asked for or gave an estimate of $750 for bloodwork stating well there an emergency department.
I paid the $350 for nothing ya got the neasua needle and the pain pills but absolutely no explanation on what was going on.
It’s so sad you trust people to look after your family and all they think about is the dollars.
I would have paid anything to find out what was wrong and they know it!
Thank god for his own Vet. Brealey Dr Veterinarian. Best place to go.

Dr Prior,
You uphold the shield in veterinary medicine. My family and I are so grateful that you took care of Taurus (brown American bully with IVDD) on Nov 4th. You are skilled in your craft and it shows. Thank you for everything

Excellent care for the 4 days attending to our dog Chance. He left doing much better and is continuing to improve significantly each day. Would highly recommend.

Absolutely fantastic place and staff! Accomodating, friendly, and perhaps most importantly, the stitched up my big goon (Oreo, American Bulldog). Price was reasonable all things considered too. Thanks KVEC!

Our dog was diagnosed with cancer and needed to be put to sleep. KVEC was so compassionate, caring and understanding. They made her final rest peaceful and made sure we, her family, were all present and given lots of time before it was over. I am so thankful for their service. If you have a pet that is at their end, go to KVEC, they will make sure your pet goes with dignity.

We had an amazing experience here with Dr. Prior. My dog was referred to this clinic with concerns of a potential obstruction in her small intestine. She was throwing up a lot, and needed another X-ray to see if the obstruction cleared. Dr. Prior was the most helpful, and you can tell the team here really cares about the animals they deal with. Dr. Prior took her time with us, and made us and our dog feel very comfortable. Thank you for everything!

Couldn’t have asked for more professional or empathic care for our dog in crisis. We were quite confident that he was in good hands.
03 June 2023 18:07
The team of vets and staff are amazing! Saved our dog’s life by performing emergency surgery and follow up care. We are so lucky that this clinic has the expertise and experience to deal with emergencies with professionalism and compassion. We are forever grateful to KVEC!

Brought my cat in and ended up having to put a 2 year old cat down because i couldnt afford to treat him, i was forced to make that choice. My Choice put my cat down for one thousand dollars or let them treat the cat (no guarenteed) for 4800 dollars. Then i got a sympathy card.

I don't even know where to begin. I had to bring my VERY nervous Rottweiler to see them today. I cannot say enough about this place. All of the staff was absolutely amazing! They look their time with him and tried their best to make him more comfortable.thank you from the bottom of my heart! Wish you could be our vet always!
14 April 2023 6:50
Thanks to the great staff.my dog lily is still cuddling with me.they went above and beyond what they quoted. Being on a limited income.it helped me so much.they are the best. I bet my dogs life on it.

I had to take my cat to KVEC early early early in the morning.
Dr. Elias was the doctor on and he was great.

We recently adopted a 10 week old Bengal kitten who required emergency, life saving measures so we rushed him to KVEC. We were greeted with compassion and the vets took immediate action to assist “Ash” by doing CPR and other life saving measures. Ash continued to be treated by the vets for 48 hours; they provided constant updates and wonderful support during the entire process. Unfortunately his little body wasn’t able to fight off his underlaying issues and the decision to humanely let him pass was made. The Vets assured me he would not be alone during his passing and would be given lots of love as he passed away. Their professional service, compassion and understanding are 2nd to none! I am forever grateful of all they did to try and save our sweet little guy.

I have to say how impressed I am with Kawartha Vetrinary Emergency Clinic, we unfortunately had to use their services when we had to put down our 13 year old dog on the weekend. They were not our regular vet but they went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable with the whole situation. They did not rush us to say our goodbyes and let us stay as long as we needed to after. This week I received a sympathy card from them, I haven’t received anything from my regular vet of 20 years, and they are well aware. If we lived closer I would definitely use there services for all our pets needs.
06 February 2023 11:07
My wife and daughter took our little cat Louie here new years day after he injured his front leg. They received quick, friendly and professional care the entire way. The price was also very reasonable. Would highly recommend them.

Today I had to make the horrible decision to have my Dad's service dog euthanized and this vet was the utmost uncompassionate of all.
My Dad has passed a couple of years ago and I inherited his dog. He was the most loving dog ever however yesterday he couldn't get up on his own 4 feet. He was crying out in pain so this led to me making to decision to have him go to be with my Dad in heaven.
I was coming from Belleville and needed to make arrangements to get help to carry my dog to the car and the receptionist told me that there was a $450 mandatory fee for the end of life consultation. She said that that consultation was for the vet to come in and agree with my decision. No check up, no nothing. She then went on to tell me that the cremation would cost me another out of this world price with the total bill being about $950 plus taxes. She wanted to take my information over the phone and I explained that I had to wait until my son in law could come help me get the dog into my car. She told me to ask neighbors or even people that I haven't talked to in a long time to help me and to just get there. Absolutely no care that I was crying so hard that I could speak. She just wanted the money.
I was floored. I didnt end up going as I ended up finding a mobile vet to come to my house to euthanize him and am taking him to be cremated on my own and saved over half and no attitude.
This vet has no compassion at all.only the intense want to empty your back account to fill their pockets.
I can't understand how they are still in business.
22 November 2022 9:26
This place cares so little about your animal that they won’t even give a basic price for the set up and administration of an IV for a dog. Didn’t requests specifics (ie the actual meds or anything), just the amount to insert an IV. This is NOT a price that fluctuates (only the meds fluctuate). Guess they just wait to see what car you’re driving when you pull up and then decide what to charge? !? ! I’m just trying to get a general idea of pricing so I can try to keep my dog alive over the long weekend. We have a very tight budget and only want what’s best for our pet. If this place was located in an area with competition, they would be out of business. Shameful.
13 November 2022 13:57
Highly recommend. Called and got through immediately. Upon arrival reception, techs and vet were all very quick. Although our end result was heartbreaking I cannot speak enough to the compassion and professionalism in handling our tragedy. Thank you for making my boys final moments as stress free as possible.
06 October 2022 2:32
Took are dog here with my wife the vet we had was not friendly and had no compassion for my wife and her freind that she had to say good bye because the vet asked my shift done in 10 min what are you going to do. The vet tech on the other hand were nice.
21 September 2022 10:15
My (almost) 15 yr old girl had ruptured her eye & because of this required surgery to remove the eye.
Needless to say I was terrified that she would not make it through the surgery but, it’s been 2 weeks & other than a line of stitches you would never know anything was wrong with her! She is bouncing around the house like a year old puppy.
The staff at this clinic were terrific & very informative. Although a pretty expensive surgery, we do not regret having it done as it seems to have given her a new lease on life!
20 September 2022 16:26
Seriously frustrated, we have been waiting to have our cat looked at since 9: 30. It’s 2: 00 and he’s next in line, has been next in line for almost 3 hours.
14 September 2022 12:49
The doctors and staff at Kawartha Vet saved our dog’s life! I can’t say enough good things. They took the time to explain everything that was happening with him and their treatment approach. I felt like I was kept in the loop the whole time. The reception staff and techs were so incredibly friendly and patient with us. I’m so grateful to you all. Thank-you for saving our baby
02 September 2022 5:40
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Called because my dog had porcupine quills in his muzzle and was told that it wasn’t an emergency and to just put a cone on him then call in the morning. She told me the closest clinic that would take me was in Toronto. We live in Havelock. Thankfully Cavan Hills agreed to see him (after she told me they wouldn’t).
How is this not an EMERGENCY? ! It happened at 11: 30pm and how can I leave my dog in uncomfortable pain overnight? I was obviously distressed speaking to her and only care about getting my dog medical attention and SHE HUNG UP THE PHONE ON ME!
I am disgusted with how I was treated. Everyone please BEWARE.
22 August 2022 7:53
I brought my old pup here after a scary experience and although they are extremely busy, they are incredible! They are compassionate and very organized. We had to wait outside but even from there you can clearly see all their staff running around and getting pets in quickly. They give you and your beloved the attention needed. So grateful for kvec.
07 August 2022 6:19
The entire staff was welcoming and helpful during what felt like a stressful situation. Their kind and approachable attitudes made the experience as positive as it could be for Lincoln. I would recommend them to anyone in the area, great service at a reasonable price.
29 July 2022 9:00
The vets, techs and reception staff were all amazing. Very communicative, honest and so kind while our golden was in their care for a few days. They took excellent care of him and came out to see him when he was discharged. Very thankful!

KVEC took care of our cocoa-Renee quickly and compassionately when the Whitby emerg vet had a 6 hour wait time. KVEC staff were very prompt in their communication regarding assessment and treatment options pertaining to cocoa’s health. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you for taking care of our girl in an emergency! We will most certainly be returning (but hopefully not anytime soon)!
07 June 2022 23:11
KVEC is not local to us but we were referred there by our vet when our senior pup was ill and needed hospitalization. We were welcomed and given all the information necessary to decide whether we could afford to leave her there. Communication with the staff about her progress was good and when another treatment might be needed but would not guarantee she would recover, we were invited to be with her and spend as much time as we needed to make our decision. The kind, caring and gentle staff were amazing.
02 May 2022 20:05
The staff at KVEC are amazing. We had to rush our Lou out yesterday and they took him in immediately. They kept me informed every step of the way, even tho they were absolutely slammed with emergencies. They stabilized Lou quickly and did everything they needed to do to find out what was going on. Turned out he has pneumonia. They kept him for the night on IV antibiotics and by morning he was much better and was able to come back home. They made this terrifying experience a lot less stressful for us, and they even let us see him before we left him, even tho he just woke up from sedation, so they could help ease my 9 year olds mind before we made the long trip home with out our sweet boy. They called us early in the morning, and told us he was a lot better and was able to come home with us. Thank you so very much for helping our sweet boy. We will forever be grateful.

The girls that work here and the vets are the best and so compassionate that I could not believe my stress level was through the roof when took our cat in last night and told me how sick he was after finding a spool of thread wrapped around his inner s decided to put him down I am not working due to my M S they helped us greatly by copming it thanks to you alk

I can never thank this clinic enough. We took our little dog in for an emergency and the compassion, and kindness they gave to myself as the owner automatically made me feel less stressed. They were so good with my little furbaby took him right in and assessed him. We are so happy with everything they did for us. Our dog is home s home and happy again. I can never thank the staff enough for what they did for us

The staff here were warm n friendly. Dr. Deb explained things clearly and we felt confident in leaving our beloved Raven in their care.

If you can go anywhere else, do it. Spent hours waiting for "triage" which was essentially putting my dog in a crate inside the office. They said an exam was likely 2-3 hours after that (the exam is what you pay for) so I said I would hold onto her in the car until then. 3 hours later I call and they said she was 8th in line so we opted to leave. I think "triage" is holding your dog hostage until an exam so that you don't go anywhere else. When I asked about wait times and asked if I should go somewhere else (just because I wanted to make sure my dogs eye issue was treated that day) they said "I know for a fact there's a 6 hour wait at Cavan.oh wait your dog is next up to be triaged just wait one minute for us to call you in"). That's when they took her inside but had no intention of looking at her for hours. Very disappointed since they could've just told me she wasn't that emergent and I could've driven her further to somewhere where she would at least get looked at. I'm technically still on their waiting list (it's 8pm and they still haven't called me since I took her in at 11am).

On January 16,2021 we brought our 11 week old puppy in for emergency end of life care. The puppy had a massive heart attack and her heart simply could not compensate for her growing body. This was the most tragic experience my family has had with an animal. KVEC was so professional, kind, and supportive during our final moments with our baby. We thanked you then and we thank you now. We provided her happiness in life, and you provided us all comfort in her death. You had put a beautiful pink heart on her IV and we noticed. Thank you for giving her love and helping us in an urgent situation. Your team is amazing, we admire the hard work you all do!
17 February 2021 3:58
We took our dog in on Sunday Dec 13th, we had a 14 and a half year old beautiful lab, the lady Dana, at the front door was really kind.
We were assured by the assistant while she poked my dog for her iv two times because she had low blood pressure and missed the first time. Also told us that the iv catheter will be removed from our dog after she passed, as well as a technician would come and help us with her legs for travel as we were taking her to her new forever home which was a bit of a distance. We called the vet after sometime spent with our baby before we put her to rest, I asked some questions and was told answers quickly, then was asked am I ready, honestly when is anyone ready to let their pets go? I certainly wasn’t ready, but said ok, so after she passed vet checked heart she was gone. We asked about legs and she said they look fine and didn’t send a tech out like we were told. Also we got home and as we uncovered our girl her iv was still in her arm. Anyways this place is great because they are open 24 hours, but considering I just lost my best friend of 14 and a half years this was quite upsetting. Sorry for the book but this was a hard day. Just wish things were a little different.

My husband and I are so incredibly grateful for the extraordinary compassionate staff at Kawartha VT Emergency clinic. Dr. Audra Martin; a special thank you for your gentle and extremely caring manner in which you handled our beloved Bear. This is such a difficult time for EVERYONE; a province wide lockdown just after Christmas weighs heavily on so many people. Loved ones that are in hospital and cannot be with family is devastating. Thank you to ALL the wonderful staff and for all you do for our cherished pets. I cannot express enough gratitude for allowing us to be with our precious Tibetan Mastiff while he passed over towards the Rainbow bridge. This meant SO much to my husband and I. Again, thank you so very much for the most compassionate service at our most vulnerable time. Amazing clinic.
16 January 2021 21:12
I hate to write a negative review but am compelled, when our previous dog who was dying the clinic was awesome and compassionate when she met her end, Norwood veterinary services had told us what to expect when the end was near and where correct and I thank them both in that situation. Unfortunately there is a but to this, my son bought me a new puppy a short while ago (a Husky) who eats everything when not watched, he ate a portion of a pillow case and began vomiting, they took him the Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Clinic with what he had vomited and they were never asked about it. They I believe mistakenly told them we had insurance on the dog, no real further consultations happened, fear analogies were given and surgery was preformed for fear of obstruction etc.
This was a clear misdiagnosis as nothing was found in the dogs stomach (they did xrays and i believe an ultra sound). Total incompetence in this situation i will never return!
My puppy has a scar and we have to endure his unnecessary rehab!
12 January 2021 11:30
I called ahead and they were quick to help my dog and told me thoroughly what my options were and gave me an honest opinion on my dog. I had little wait time and was pleased with pricing.

I was on vacation up north and it was the closest emergency clinic that was open. I called in prior to going and they picked up right away to discuss concerns. When I got there, I had to wait for the vet tech to call to ask further questions but it wasn't long at all. They advised me that there were others ahead of me so I'd have to wait a bit. I was quite anxious but they assured that it wouldn't be too long. All the staff I dealt with were super nice and compassionate. The doctor called a couple times during the assessment to make sure I was aware of my options and that I was comfortable before moving forward. All in all a very positive experience and am very appreciative of all the staff who assisted. Thank you!

We have had two really good experiences with KVEC. The first one ultimately led to my kitty being put down. In no way was this the clinics fault and they were very supportive throughout the diagnostic and decision making process. Informed me of all possible treatments and outcomes and gave me time to make my decision with no pressure.

The second was also very low pressure. After being advised by another emergency vet that I should wait until my cat was so sick she stopped eating and drinking (which in my experience with cats means it's too late) I decided to call KVEC. They saw my kitty right away, talked me through recommended testing and possible treatments depending on the results before I even consented to testing.

Staff was all great and explained everything so well. Thank you to all.

We cannot thank this emergency clinic enough for helping our Marley. She is four months old. They were stellar in their diagnose and healing! I made their life miserable with multiple phone calls and not once was I greeted with utter sympathy and respect. I do wish we had an emergency clinic closer to us but they were a class act! Congrats to ALL of your staff. And a hats off to our Minden vet clinic for updates and follow ups. We have our girl home. THANK YOU TO All of you!

Totally amazing team

I have had to take my dog into the Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Clinic (KVEC) twice (June and September) while visiting Peterborough. They are an incredible team of professionals all around.

They immediately took him in for diagnosis and treatment. He has had a murmur for four plus years that has now progressed to Congestive Heart Failure. The Vets at KVEC took their time to explain his condition and to listen to my questions and concerns. Their team was able to give me updates even when I called in the middle of the night to see how he was doing.

Seeing your animal struggle for breath is one of the most scary things a pet owner / guardian can ever experience. You want to make sure the Vet taking care of you animal is knowledgeable and compassionate. The team at KVEC is both.

They were great at recommending adjustments to his medications and communicating with his Vet back where we live.

Thank you KVEC for taking good care of Barney and helping me through a very scary time.

My sweet kitty Rogue was ready to go to the rainbow bridge, so I called in to my vet and found out that they were sick and in quarantine. They said they would send the file to KVEC (so I wouldn't have to pay an emergency fee or exam fee) and an appointment was made. I went to the appointment and was in my car for 15 minutes then ushered into a room (by the vet tech) where she told me they wouldn't be doing an exam because I was just doing euthanasia (and because of Covid). She took him out to put the iv catheter in brought him back in and said the vet would be right in. The Vet came in and finished everything then let me stay with him for about a minute. During this time the secretary came in with the debit machine and I paid (almost $450). The tech came in and took Rogue away and they ushered me out (if that all took 10 minutes I would be surprised) I did not receive a bill or receipt, but I was a mess. I stewed about it for a long time before calling in. Everyone I spoke to including my Vet friend felt that the fee was too high and they made a mistake. So I called in, and I wish I hadn't because I am really angry and I will never go back to them, and I will never recommend them. I explained everything to the secretary and she passed me off to someone else who must be damage control officer because she didn't ask me anything she just launched in to defence mode, told me that they are 24hr clinic and they have to charge more and there is an aftercare fee because they need to establish a relationship with me. What? My cats dead, there will be no relationship with you. I'm angry. If you could have convinced me those fees were justified there would not be a problem.whoever owns this clinic needs to ditch the frontline staff and start over

Not impressed. Kept my dog in a cage for 45 mins.before looking at him and very expensive.still not able to find cause of illness.
30 April 2020 4:27
I'll never forget the time I took my black lab in with what I thought to be bloat, which in some cases can be an emergency. Turned out to be indigestion and was prescribed pepcid, fair enough. Although the vet informed me that my lab looked to have an enlarged spleen, and that this likely indicated cancer.she asked if I would like to do some further testing, I immediately dismissed it as my lab (working dog, in peak shape) was showing no signs of anything.

Needless to say, 6 years later my boy is in his tenth year, and happy as ever. A close friend of mine also had this phantom diagnosis with his Shepard during a visit. Be aware of this place! $$$
12 April 2020 22:45
We had a scare with our 9 week old puppy tonight and were immediately seen. (Luckily, other than some discomfort, she should be ok.) Everyone was compassionate, knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything. For being an after hours service, I found that it was a great value for the money as the cost was much less than expected. Thank you for your help!
21 February 2020 6:42
We were faced with an after-hours emergency and came here to the 24h clinic. Our senior dog was ill and suddenly lost control of her back legs and was in great pain. The staff made our dog comfortable immediately, did a series of tests to see if anything could be done, and were compassionate, informative and very sensitive to helping with the difficult decision for euthanasia. Thank you for your care.

We had to take our 8 year old cat Shadow there, she was having trouble walking, Vicky checked her over. Turns out she had a blood clot, Vicky recommend trying a half aspirin every third day to dissolve the clot, We did this for a week and a half, but it wasn’t enough to break it up, sadly, her back legs gave out and we had to euthanize her, They let us stay with her, The staff and vet there are amazing people, They are so kind, compassionate and caring.even through my tears they understood how important it was for us to be with Shadow till the end, I would highly recommend them to anyone with a pet emergency,

DO NOT GO TO THIS VET CLINIC. Save yourself and go to Jackson Creek instead. They are the absolute worst, complete money grab with no regard for the animals that they treat. My parents brought their 10 yr old dog who had an obstructed bowel to this clinic in an emergency state, they then after X-rays told them $4000 extremely complicated surgery was needed in order to fix the problem. But my parents already knew that since he was a senior (especially for his breed) he would have slim chances of a success in the surgery, as well as in having a hard life already didn’t want to further put him through something (which is their right as pet owners). In trying to convince them to do this surgery they used absolutely childish guilting manipulation including using the fact that the dog was blind and that they ‘wouldn’t put a blind dog down, so why put a senior dog with a bowel obstruction down? ’ What kind of money driven childish people run this place? Further proving my point of how disappointing Peterborough is.
09 December 2019 10:23
Had to make the difficult decision to euthanize my little 14 year old dog, Dr Dell and all the staff I dealt with at KVEC were kind, informed me of the options and the likely outcomes and gave me the time to decide and accept. Many, many thanks. Excellent office.

My experience today at this clinic was horrible starting with the receptionist Katie.

I will provide a detailed review once Joanne the manager returns my call.

Unless you want hallway treatment for your animal, I suggest you not to go here.
