Ken's valu-mart

Love that this is a smaller store, less choices, therefore making it easy and quicker to get in and get out! For someone who doesn't enjoy grocery shopping, this is ideal! Friendly staff always on shift too!

Very upsetting experience today. The staff were very rude. I have a service dog and I brought my letter from my healthcare provider to show that he was my service dog. They started to ask for a paper from my vet (what? That is not legally required although I have brought him into the vet to be checked out). Not only did they do this, they seemed to enjoy ignoring that I am a guy calling me "ma'am" even after I corrected them and told my name. It is hard enough for me to do simple tasks like get groceries and to have staff harass me makes for a horrible experience.

I ended up calling back on the advise of my service animal group. Got the manager who was one of the ladies that confronted me. She claimed that other dog owners gave her some misinformation. (Guidelines in Quebec require a vet thing, not here in Ontario so that maybe where it came from). I told her she should check the government website directly instead of relying on people's testimony. Service dogs can act like.dogs sometimes. They are not robots and can be new to it. It can sometimes take a bit for a handler and SA to "mesh".

She did apologize but it really did not take the sting out. I did try to explain that I am self-training. (which is legal here) I am lucky to have a dog from someone a breeder that trains service dogs, not everyone on disability can afford a fully trained dog off of the get-go. One of the things he does is to remind me of the things I am supposed to pick up from the store, one of them being bread. (He was indicating the bread and was trying to show where the bread was. I also forgot to tell him the "good" word since I was being confronted.)

As for the LGBT+ thing she said she was "sorry that I was offended" and that she is "old-school". She did say that she will inform the staff of my proper pronouns and kept insisting she was not discriminating. It is possible she did not hear my corrections since I have trouble speaking when pressured.

I will be returning as it is a smaller grocery store that is close to me which makes it convenient. A lot of grocery stores constantly move things around which makes it difficult for me to locate the items I need.

Leaving this up because I want people to understand the struggle. If a service dog is doing things that seem like a dog, that does not mean he is not a service dog and confronting people is very harmful.

Great local store. Convenient hours. Nice deli. Staff are pleasant.

Fruits / oranges / fresh produce are not the greatest in my experience. Oranges / mandarin’s look good but are dry and poor tasting. Unfortunately not a one off with purchases I’ve made here.

Fair prices. Great staff. Excellent ground beef and other meat from the butcher. Prepared food they serve you is hit and miss. Sometimes the prepared food is hard like rock. Sometimes it's perfect.

Update.
The store has turned around, and things have totally improved 100%. I purchase prepared food every week and it has been perfect everytime for months now.

I always have a great experience here. Good deals, friendly associates, and a clean store.

Price hikes every week! Not going to be shopping here anymore, sorry you have lost my business with your greed, one week goes by you raise prices. 50. A month ago pop was 2/4.00 now it's 2/6.00. Last week pub chicken was advertised for 4.99, the very next week it is advertised for 5.49. What is wrong with you? Nothing friendly about ripping off your neighbours!

My wife and I live around the and we go to Ken’s Valu-Mart all the time. They have 90% of what we need food wise, easy to navigate and the staff always provides amazing service!

Great little supermarket in the north end of Sarnia. Good selection and prices and the staff is always welcoming and cheerful.

I love Ken's Valu-mart, the people there are always super nice and efficient. I ship there before any big box store

I haven't met Ken. But I met value, and it's a great pair with the prices of this grocery store.

I shop here a few times a month going for specific items that this is the only store I can find these particular items

Great community grocery store. I have changed my shopping habits due to the quality of the experience Ken's valu-mart provides. What I really appreciate is the friendliness of all the staff. They hire lots of young people and the are very helpful and pleasant.

This was the first time I've been to Valu-mart and it won't be the last time. I really loved this store. It is not a large store but has been laid out for easy shopping and everything u need u will find. The shelves are well stocked and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Great store to shop at. Stop in see for yourself you will not be disappointed.

Great location, excellent meat, decent produce. Great for in/out quick shopping. Zero emphasis on hospitality or kindness from the leadership team.

Small store, but has what you need.
Prices are a bit higher but pay for the convenience of location.

Can get in and out very fast, the cashiers are always a treat - nothing but manners.

A great little community grocery store. The prices are higher than Superstore, but cheaper than SunRipe.
The butcher is great and the quality of the meat is amongst the best in Sarnia.
A small section serves up wings, wedges, cooked chickens, and other fast fried foods.

A convenient location if you live in the North End that has a decent selection for its small size. Prices aren't the best, but often it's worth it for a quick trip.

Good selection and convenient for Sarnia's north-enders. Higher then average prices on meats, fruits and vegetables but quality and freshness seems above average as well. Fresh baked breads and hot food items like roasted chicken, wings, chicken tenders and potato wedges make for a great family meal when time is short or if the cook wants a day off.

Not sure why it has the word "Valu" in it's name, there are no values here, ridiculous that the owner has to add a couple extra bucks to items not priced that high anywhere else.it is a small store, hope ur getting rich off of the community, but please change ur name!

Great little store with a surprising amount of inventory, though it can be a little pricey at times.

Visit went pretty much as expected for a proper valu mart. Looks a little run down and could use some cosmetic love

For a small grocery store, Valu-Mart is great. Fantastic selection and stock for a smaller store. Deli is handy for those who eat meat.
My criticisms are that prices are usually way too ridiculous for some items.
Also, clearance produce should be put in more sustainable bags such as paper, if Loblaws is trying to help the planet out. 4/5

It is a smaller type of neighbourhood grocery store with a friendly atmosphere. Quite clean, tidy, and we'll arainged. Prices are on the higher side, but if you live close and need only a few things, it would be a go to place for convenience.

The prices are a bit 'north end' but at least they are close. I avoid the meat department because the pink lights on the meat really leaves my eyes zinging for a half hour. The workers there told me they are worried about reprisal if they complain and did confirm they have the same discomfort after working around these special lights. I've been using this neighborhood grocery occasionally since it was 'Mathews Super Save' (60s) and it is nice to have something close.

I love it, the most amazing meat cuts, you ask for it, you got it, the store itself is not too big, and excellent for convenience, always fresh, they have a deli, hot food, and a bakery, great produce, great staff, and quick friendly service

Been coming here for groceries for my entire life. Staff are always friendly, you will usually even see the owner in the store stocking shelves. They have all you basic grocery needs. Even an in store butcher that you can ring the bell by the meat sections and request specific cuts of what you'd like if you don't see it there. They have a deli section too where they will slice your sandwich meat right in front of you. For good price and wide selection, I would highly recommend.

Excellent quick little in and out store. They don't have the most variety or selection due to its small size but it's perfect for quick trips. The staff are always amazing and friendly.

Store is conveince is closer to where I live. It's also handy for those picnicking at Canatra Park.
