My husband been schedual on emergency cataract removal due to a surgery that he had on the eye and the gas that need to be use on the surgery gave him an aggressive cataract in only 3 weeks he couldn’t see with that eye. A month later after the eye healed they book him in for cataract removal, the appointment was 1: 40 schedual and to sign in at 12;40 one hour before for preparation. They been late one hour so took him in late at 2: 40 they put the IV in the hand, dropped in the eye and when supported to take him in they cancelled the surgery. After not been able to eat from a evening before not drinking water since 9 Am, taking time off unpaid need it an person to take him home so that person took a time off from work, they came and so easily said sorry your surgery has been cancelled we don’t do any surgery pass 3: 00 PM when I can see in the website they are open till 4: 00PM. He argued that I already have the IV in my vain, droppes in my eye, they didn’t care sorry they thought it is just enough.theirs excuse was they can operate pass time, my question what would happen if they would start the surgery complication comes unexpected and the time tick tock come, they would leave him with an open eye, bandages him and said we need to reschedule you to finish the surgery? This is UNACCEPTABLE, UNPROFESSIONAL AT ALL LEVELS.
At this point not sure to blame the dr that he said the clinic don’t allowed me to start the surgery, the nurses that put the IV, droppes on the eye when they knew he need to stay one hour and that will pass the clinic allowing time. If you have multiple choices DONT GO TO THIS CLINIC or don’t accept any surgery that come close to noon like our case. Take the early morning or walk away! We deeply regretted to waist our working time full day and come from much north of Toronto to this clinic.

On November 13,2022, I attended a first appointment, they did several tests and in the end Dr. Jonathan Micieli applied laser to both eyes. There was no medical pre-registration, headache, eye pain, dizziness, memory loss, etc. I was like this until December 18, I couldn't stand it anymore, I left the country, I lost my status only due to medical negligence, it changed my life.

I've been going here for the past 6 years and every time I go the staff is always wonderful. The Technicians are really gentle especially when putting in the eye drops. Dr. Calafai is one of the best DR.

It is rare to read glowing reviews, in this case about Dr. El -Defrawey and find personally that most pale in comparison to the actual experience. The entire procedure from the office staff, especially Liz to the nurses and the competency of Dr. El- Defrawey was remarkable.
I feel extremely lucky to have been in such capable hands.

Expert, respectful care. Very well-organized. Every staff member I encountered was terrific.

Dr. Amandeep Rai and his team have been patient, helpful and effective. My elderly mother was very pleased with his work and the results. We’re so thankful to the team who helped restore her vision!

I had been referred to Dr Alex Kaplan at Kensington eye Institute for cataract by my family physician. Dr Kaplan explained to me in detail reg the surgery and patiently answered my questions. The cataract surgeries in both my eyes were performed very professionally and Dr Kaplan had a nice system to record the use of the eyedrops after the operations. The nurses at the Kensington Institute were very professional and looked after me before and after the operation with all due care. What I really liked about Kensington Institute was the quality and dedication of all the staff associated with my operations. The follow-up checkups with Dr Kaplan were also very thorough. I am indeed very thankful to Dr Kaplan and his team and his assistant Denise for giving me a 20/20 eyesight.

This review is not about the quality of the medical staff: The doctors, residents and nurses are all professional and accommodating.

It’s the front receptionist that’s the equivalent of dealing with someone who feels she holds some illusion of power over the mere commoners asking for a handout. Such contempt for patients. I had already paid nearly $1000.00 for my cataract surgery at my doctor’s office. But upon arrival at this office for surgery where my doctor also operates, the receptionist immediately told me I needed to pay nearly $600.00 without explanation. When inquired about the additional charge and asked if she could reference the invoice that to my understanding already covered all my surgery fees— because no one explained nor provided a document to me that I had to pay an additional fee on top of the one I already paid for, she quickly dismissed my inquiry with “I will not call the office”. The arrogance was hilarious if it wasn’t so rude: One would think I was begging for a personal handout from her. She would only allow me to ask my doctor about the unexpected payment— when he’s already too busy, and confirming payment is not his job.

Maybe this person was having an extremely bad day… And maybe a simple lesson in courtesy that even 1st-graders are taught would be highly recommended.

The staff was very pleasant and thorough, efficiently completing the series of eye tests I was scheduled for and booking an appointment for next year's exam.

I cannot tare the quality and standard of care here enough. About 4 months ago, I for one reason and another developed a cataract. I went to an ER and was referred to an Ophthalmologist on the same day. This was a Sunday. A referral was done to Kensington Eye Institute and specifically Dr Rai. There are a lot of demands on our public health system and COVID has put a strain on things. But I was seen with care, total professionalism and empathy. Treated always with dignity and respect. From those at ease with surgical procedures to those that are not at ease the care and service and quality were consistently high. After my surgery, where again I was impeccably treated, made to feel so cared for I came home. After about 2 hours, Dr Popovitch, a doctor who spoke to me once, to assure me all was well, called me at home to ask how I was with such kindness and and again so much professionalism. I was overwhelmed at how consistently quality and patient the care and attention was. Always keeping me informed. Treating me like I was an equally important part of the decision making in my own treatment and care. The nurses were experienced and phenomenal. The front desk staff the same.
As an aside while I was waiting for surgery in that 4 month period, I decided I would visit privately run laser eye clinic. They saw me, ran tests, sent me to Mount Sinai. I duly obliged, and went to my appointment had tests run and I never heard from them again. I found out, through my experience with Kensington Eye Institute that my cataract was not atypical, and so they simply didn’t call me back. The moral of this review, keep healthcare public and free at the point of access. The standards and levels of care offered not based on whether you can pay, or that they can get you through quickly, but on what you need matters. It can’t be profit driven, this will always be the most necessary part of keeping all of our communities healthy and thriving. Thank you Kensington Eye Institute for improving the quality of my life in indescribable ways. The service demonstrates why there is nothing better than our public system of healthcare.

I am seeing Dr. Christakis for the past 4 years. He is the best and has helped me improve my vision. Very friendly and energetic person. I was seeing him earlier at Toronto Western Hospital. The services from staff and nurses is good here.

I have been treated by Dr. Yan for a retina tear and Dr. Amandeep Rai at the Kensington Eye institute.

Dr Yan performed a corrective surgery on a torn eye retina

Dr Rai performed surgery on removal of a complicated cataract.

In both cases the surgeries and service was first class

Both doctors are experts in their fields and their attention to the patients needs and subsequent followups were perfect.

Highly recommend the clinic for your vision needs and specifically these 2 doctors.

My retinal detachment was treated by Dr Peng and I'm very happy with the outcome. Very professional and careful all the time.

Last week I had cataract and intraocular lens replacement surgery in both eyes performed by Dr. Rai and now I have 20/20 vision and am free from the burden of glasses and contacts! Many thanks to Dr. Rai and the Kensington Eye Institute team for your talent and care.

I was warmly welcomed by Joe. I was impressed by the infection control measures in place despite the efficiency of having so many folk going through the clinic daily. Staff were professional and kind! I had been initially quite nervous And I left grateful and trloevrd

Dr. Kaplan has been very knowledgeable when explaining the diagnosis, thorough ii m. His eye examination, confident, warm and polite towards his patients
16 October 2022 15:41
Man that receptionist is nasty! I avoided her and went with the other soft spoken Asian one instead.she barked orders, no greeting, evil stare and commanded patients to wear a mask with NO please or thank you! Someone like that should should not be in a client facing role even on the phone she was sarcastic with a mean tone.what a horrible first impression. Dr. Micili was good and the 2nd staff who saw me but the first examiner wasn't exactly the friendliest either.

The manager of the Kensington Eye Institute provided unprofessional and unwelcoming service by threatening to cancel my mother's surgery.

On July 22 around noon, my mother had eye surgery at Kensington Eye Clinic. A woman approached me and asked if she could help me while my stepfather and mother were at the reception. I responded to her by saying that I was simply awaiting my parents' registration. Since there can't be two persons standing in the clinic, the woman instructed me to wait in the hallway. I went to the hallway to wait as she had instructed. She then instructed me to go to the seating area rather than stand in the hallway. I once more complied with her request without saying a word and headed to the seating area. She came to me and reminded me once more that only one person can come to pick up my mother. I replied to her and said I am perfectly aware of that because the gentlemen up front had given me a very detailed explanation. The woman, however, stopped speaking with me and said that I gave her a bad attitude once more. When my parents finished registering, I went to my mom and gave her all her belongings and a pack of facial tissues, the woman stood beside us and said to me “she doesn’t need it”. I told her, "I think I have the right what to give to my mom. ” She berated me and said that I had given her an attitude once more, threatening to cancel my mother's surgery today if I persisted. She also spoke with the gentleman at the front to ask him, "Why did you let her come up here? " and "Don't let her come back to pick up my mom after that. "

I had cataract surgery on my left eye about 2 weeks ago. I’m only 53 but developed a cataract in my left eye that left me basically blind in that eye. I could see shapes and light and color but everything was blurry beyond recognition. I feel my surgery went pretty much perfect. No pain or irritation at any time. All the staff that I dealt with were excellent and very professional. DR Amandeep Rai was/is my surgeon (also doing the other eye) and my result as of today is 20/20 vision in the fixed eye (for distance) …. From legal blindness just 2 weeks ago. To say I am pleased with the result is an understatement. Cheers.
31 August 2022 22:02
Most times the waiting room moves swiftly but the last few times I came here, I couldn't find a seat because other patients brought escorts when asked not to because of limited seating. I understand the elderly and disabled need escorts but they shouldn't be allowed to sit in the waiting room with the other patients. Kensington needs to start enforcing the rules.
01 August 2022 3:21
Horrible patient care provided by one of the receptionists, on a Monday afternoon the receptionist with thick curly/wavy hair proved to be almost neglectful of patients, there was a man in the waiting room clearly in the wrong place based on his medical requisition and the lady made him wait in the wrong space for almost an hour, he asked me to help him and I suggested he speak with another receptionist, as his referral clearly mentioned he should be in one of the upstairs offices, he approached another receptionist who promptly identified the requisition was indeed for another office and sent him in the right place. Later I need to inquire about my appointment status and I mistakenly went to the same receptionist who remained on her cell phone, when I asked her how much longer it would take, she responded with “you have been registered” and nothing else, I told her that wasn’t my question, and while still on her phone she asked me what my question was, I reasked how much longer the wait would be to which she remained silent and one of the other female receptionists provided helpful information, during this interaction the thick wavy hair lady returned her attention to her phone. I feel awful that in a clinic that deals with emergent and vulnerable patients, a receptionist would be so callous. Everything else about the clinic and care was phenomenal

Dr Nataly Pesin is best. I had seen many eye specials in the last one year, no body was able to solve my red eyes problem. She gave me advice and treatment and within days I was cured. She gave me ample time till I was satisfied and I finished the consultation myself, she listened patiently to me.
I strongly recommend her.

Got blurred vision from covid. Saw these people they said nothing was wrong and told me no glasses needed. An optometrist gave me a mild prescription which fixed my vision but my eyes hurt. Was referred back to this place for further investigation, but they refused to take me again as a patient and to look elsewhere. Most places will further look into things like prism glasses which have not been ruled out when patients still have an issue.

Its actually a pretty scummy move to just do the basics as a neuro option and say f you go somewhere else. 1 star is fitting for half job clinics.

I had two operations on the same eye here, within three months, and I know it sounds weird, but my experience was fantastic. Everyone knew what they were doing (as one would hope!), and were all very professional. Both times I had the sort of anaesthesia where you're still awake, and it was just awesome. Maybe it was the anaesthesia, but I felt just like I was getting a haircut or something. I noticed I started to feel a little pain, and instead of becoming distressed, I just said, "Excuse me, could someone please up the painkillers? I'm starting to feel something, " and they did, and it was gone. Both experiences were so smooth and stress-free, I almost wish I needed another operation. There's so much bad service out there that it's really fantastic when you go somewhere and are seen by people who are actually competent. (I was reminded to leave this positive review because I just experienced some terrible service and left a negative review for another place.) I heartily and sincerely recommend KEI to everyone.

Dr Micieli has taken amazing care of me from day one. I've always gotten the best care, treatment and service. He is helping me to figure out what's going on, along with a team of other Dr's. They all talk and have been outstanding. Thank you for your continued help. We will figure this out one day

I see Dr. Kaplan at the Kensington Eye Institute and I always feel very well taken care of. I have an inflammatory disease called uveitis, which can cause blindness and other eye complications if left untreated. It's nice to have someone closely monitoring my case and taking the time to make sure I get better. Dr. Kaplan is always very kind and supportive. I had a procedure done where they take a sample of your eye fluid via a needle through your pupil. Naturally, I had some nerves going into it but Dr. Kaplan took the time to walk me through it and make sure I felt comfortable.

Request a referral to ANYONE other than Dr. Mancini in this office.

He reports to insurance that he tests for things that he doesn’t, performs minimal testing at best, and chases the nurses around the office more than providing focussed attention to his patients.

As a result, his reporting has caused significant delays in my husbands treatment. His prognosis was dry eye, when in fact, both of my husband’s pupils differ in size.

Our optometrist is far more trusted, thorough, and adept than Mancini.

ASK FOR SOMEONE ELSE!

The one checking the eyes is fine. However, the receptionist was the rudest, most aggressive, condescending, unwelcoming person I have ever encountered. I have never met someone who so clearly does not enjoy their job as much as this person. They were aggressive in tone, maybe due to a slight miscommunication issue regarding the referral, but to no extreme fault of anyone. With her being the first interaction while entering the clinic, it definitely ruins the entire clinic experience. Especially when the people coming in are already in so much stress because of their URGENT EYE CARE NEEDS. Would avoid coming here if you get anxious when speaking with receptionists or if you're having a bad day - she will make it worse, probably. Definitely an encounter that made me feel anxious and unsettled, hope she was just having an off day & that she feels better her next shift though.

About 7 years ago the vision in my right eye blurred suddenly and for no apparent reason. I was able to read with it but could see only blurred shapes beyond and glasses did not assist. Glaucoma was initially suspected but ruled out following testing which showed the eye was otherwise healthy. About a year and a half ago vision in both eyes appeared to be cloudy and my optometrist confirmed the presence of cataracts in both eyes. Vision in the right eye remained blurred as it had been since early 2014. I was referred by my doctor to Dr. Amandeep Rai at the Kensington Eye Institute for an assessment for cataract surgery. Dr. Rai confirmed the presence of cataracts and ran follow up testing to rule out glaucoma in the right eye. Once glaucoma was again ruled out I was scheduled for lens replacements. I was provided with reading material, all questions were answered by Dr. Rai and his staff and Dr. Rai reviewed with me the pros and cons for my eyes of the various available lenses and provided his recommendation as to which lenses might best enhance my vision. I accepted the recommendation. The right eye was done first and to say it was successful would be an understatement. With the new lens came clarity of course since I was no longer looking through a clouded lens but, more importantly, my vision is now 20/20 in the eye through which I had seen only blurred images for many years. 2 weeks later the lens in my left eye was replaced with equally excellent results. Dr. Rai had indicated he would do his best and expected good results but, if anything, under promised and over delivered. I am thrilled with my "new" eyes. Thank you Dr. Rai and thanks to your entire staff all of whom were pleasant during each visit and most helpful in answering questions along the way. I hold all of you in the highest regard.

Dr Rai and his staff are wonderful. I was very nervous before the surgery. They were very kind and professional. I now have 20-20 vision. I am so happy. Thank you for your excellent care during this extraordinary time

I had my first intraocular lens transplant here (right eye), and the clinic was very impressive. From the reception to the nurses and the surgeon.all of it was superb.
I had full confidence in the entire team and especially with my surgeon, Dr. KAHN.
He was knowledgeable and very confident, which gave me next to zero fears or nerves.
I had the nurse named Amanda, who was SO kind and sweet. She was very easy to talk to made everything so relaxed and comfortable.
It was a good day that changed my vision for the better and I am forever grateful for the work Kensington Eye Institute does to improve the lifestyle of those with vision impairment.
Keep up the good work and I will be back in October for my left eye, and expecting just as awesome care and support from a great team!

Had cataract surgery performed by Dr. Amandeep Rai recently and I highly recommend Dr. Rai and his professional staff at the Kensington Eye Institute. Dr. Rai and his staff made me feel very comfortable and explained the procedure to me and what is to be expected. I am happy to say that I am able to see for the first time in over 47 years without glasses! Everything is so crystal clear! Thank you so very much Dr. Rai and Kensington Eye Institute for giving me my sight back!

I would like to thank Dr. Peng Yan and his team for taking care of my mother with such exemplary care and skill. Our family was extremely impressed by Dr. Yan's chairside manner and his ability to explain us in a short and concise form what the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of my mother's condition was. Dr. Yan never pressured us to make a decision right away and allowed us to think to make the right choice. We decided to proceed with surgery with Dr. Yan and are so glad that we did. Dr. Yan is a talented clinician and surgeon and we would not hesitate to recommend him. Thank you Dr. Yan for your excellent care.

The surgery was scheduled for 8: 30 am, but started only at 10 and then had to wait until 12: 30 to see the doctor! No prior notice given that it will take 4 hours! Total disrespect to the patients time.
08 January 2020 23:53
Kensington is an excellent patient-focussed health facility. Dr Rai and his team are exemplary health professionals. I have recommended them to my friends asking about my cataract surgery experience.
20 December 2019 1:39
I waited over an hour and a half for my surgery.

However, the surgery was quick and absolutely painless. I'm amazed at how fast my eye is healing and well I can see with only the left one done so far.

I'm very annoyed and concerned because I was rushed once we got into pre-op. One of the nurses removed my glasses from my face as she was taking my blood pressure on my right arm and another was putting the IV port into my left hand. I told the nurse where to put my glasses so I'd have them. The next day when I went to put them on, they were missing. I have called several times and no one appears to be concerned. I'm continually being told, "oh, you lost your glasses. " No, I did not lose my glasses, one of your nurses did!

Three days now without any satisfaction!

I see my surgeon on friday to see what they plan on doing. I'll be taking my $1200 receipt with me!

Surgery - Excellent
Service - Crapola

Hard to get though on phones to talk to front desk person, but service is professional and wait times are okay with the doctors who are very good at there job

When I called to speak with a Doctor regarding further consultation for my eye surgery, the person I was speaking to (Tome? I believe was her name) was incredibly rude and not helpful at all. I wish there was another place where my surgery can be performed, because I do not recommend Kensington Eye Institute at all.
15 November 2019 5:41
From the first consultation that my husband and I had with Dr. El Defrawy, we were impressed with his respectful and courteous manner. He explained at length the different options available to us for our respective cataract surgeries, never once insinuating that the more expensive options were the ones we should go with. The choice was left entirely up to us. The surgeries themselves were completely pain free and comfortable and we could not be happier with he results. The staff is all wonderful, especially Liz, whose efficient manner inspires much confidence. If I had to find a negative it would be that appointment times are not adhered to, but I suppose there are various issues that might effect this. All in all, our experience with the Kensington Eye Institute has been extremely favourable and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone requiring cataract surgery.
14 November 2019 13:22
Dr. Rai and all the staff were first class from start to finish. Everything was explained with patience and understanding. Surgery is always undertaken with some apprehension but was mitigated by the professional and caring staff.
26 October 2019 9:54
I’ve had cataracts in both eyes corrected by Dr. Rai, and I believe he is a genius with difficult eye challenges! My eye history is complicated by several factors, and before the first surgery Dr. Rai was very clear about the risks and possible outcomes. He took a different approach to solving one of those challenges, which has worked out perfectly - it’s now over a year after the first surgery with great results, and he’s just done the second eye (which was even more complicated). That also went perfectly and I have 20/20 vision for the first time in years. In our first meetings I thought he was very professional but somewhat reserved. I was wrong about that, his pleasure and happiness with my results have been wonderful and I would recommend Dr. Rai and his team to anyone with complicated eye history. Thank you again to Dr. Rai and the entire team at Kensington Eye Clinic.
01 October 2019 11:16
Dr. Rai and his team are excellent. I had cataract surgery at The Kensington Eye Institute and it went very well. It was a very positive experience. Dr. Rai took the time to answer all of my questions before and after the surgery. His staff are all very knowledgeable, professional and kind. The follow-up care was equally as good.
If you have cataracts I would highly recommend going to Dr. Rai at The Kensington Eye Institute.

I had an appointment at 11am this morning with Dr. Lam, just to get the results of some tests completed a few weeks ago. When I arrived the waiting room was packed full and I was told there would be a wait of 1-2 hours and that this is standard. I asked why they hadn’t told me ahead of time, or made my appointment for 1pm instead of 11, and was told that there would still be a 1-2 hour wait. How can that be? I was appalled at this disrespectful manner of treating patients. Any business would go bankrupt if it treated clients this way. I was told that all other patients are in the same boat; well, if this was intended to make me feel better it didn’t, it just worsened the situation. This is such a dreadful way to treat people. The perception must be that patients’ time Is worthless and therefore they can sit around for hours on end, just waiting, I left without seeing the doctor.

I wish to extend my sincerest gratitude to Dr Liao and her team, Tomi, Nitta and Soobiya over at the Kensington Eye Institute, for changing my life recently and giving me the opportunity to have vision through the BOSTON PROSE devices. My life felt dark and dismal with double vision and failing eyesight for the past 30 years but now I have such a bright future ahead of me because of Dr Liao's understanding of my condition and taking me through the steps to secure vision for me. I have keratoconus, ocular surface disease, glaucoma, dry eyes among other's, all of which cause blurred vision.

Thank you kindly to all @ Kensington Eye Institute, 340 College St
