Khao San Road

Excellent food with generous portions and variable spice levels. Place fills up fast so we went ahead to make sure we got in early to get seats. Cozy, friendly place and doesn't rush you. Washrooms are up the stairs so not accessible. Quick service.

The yummiest Khao Soi without the long line of Pai!

The Khao Soi:
- Beware the spice level, they say medium is average but both me and my friend found it a little too spicy, next time we got mild it was much better for savoring the soup
- the soup is coconutty, rich, and super flavourful
- the egg noodles have a fantastic chew
- the crunchy fried noodles on the top are the perfect addition for texture

The Three Flavours Pad Thai:
- very well sauced but slightly too sweet for my taste, not as much depth of flavour as expected
- the noodles and ingredients are all good by itself
- slightly smaller than usual Pad Thais from other restaurants

Overall would highly recommend for a delicious bowl of Khao Soi. However, at $23.7 it is definitely on the pricier side for the portion size (but also the Downtown Premium is to be expected).

One of my go-to Thai places in Toronto for massaman curry! Rich flavour and large portion. Pad see ew is good also.
Can get very busy and has tighter seating in some sections, try to sit in the front or corners of the restaurant. I love the tiles on the floors and walls, very cool yet simple decor.
Service is the bare minimum/simple. Has not been rude, just not anything more.

Food is excellent. My strong suggestion is to get the fresh rolls. Also, get here at least 30 min before you get hungry, there will be a wait.

Good thai place to eat. We were a large party and they quickly put tables together to accommodate us. Service was good.food took a while to come out. It's a popular place to eat cos there was always a line.
Will go again when next I'm in Toronto.

Food was great! One of the best phad Thai dish in Toronto. However, it was too spicy. I recommend way less spicy levels you order. Server was nice and attentive as well. There was no A/C on hot sunny weather, so keep in mind if you are going to avoid heat. We spent great time there and we will come back for sure.

Must try! - Pad See Ew I prefer beef but chicken is great too! Best one I tried in the city.

Sitting space is a little tight you are too close to other tables but the quality of food makes you not focus on that.

Overall good experience. Service was fantastic. Had the squash fritters as an appetizer and red curry for main (both pictured). The fritters tasted great but it was a large portion as an appetizer, even for two people. The red curry tasted good initially but the sweetness was overwhelming after awhile and there wasn't enough rice. Also be wary of the spiciness.

This is some of the best thai food in downtown Toronto. It can get quite noisy and crowded on busy days, but totally worth a visit. I've been here 3 times now and all 3 times the quality has been consistently delicious. Would highly recommend their pad thais!

Worst experience. We went there to celebrate a birthday.
- we were a group of 8 and got a new table for 6. We all had to adjust had tough time eating properly.

- very late food. 2 tables next to us sat after us and got their food served way before us

- the servers were rude and non- responsive

- no thank you after you pay the bill and tip them after this horrible experience

- food was okay though

There's so many good Thai places in the near area if you're looking for proper seating and customer service.

Authentic Thai food pad Thai is my favorite as well asthe deep fried squash.very quick and friendly staff.kind of cozy place with nice atmosphere.it's definitely recommended

My recent visit was good! Ordered green curry fried rice, kao soi, and squash fritters. So tasty! The price was increased compared to my visit years ago, but overall experience still good! Server was very attentive although it was a busy afternoon! Definitely will go back again!

Khao San Road has been one of the premier Thai restaurants in Toronto for around a decade. And they've been consistent throughout this entire time. Pick anything on the menu, you won't go wrong.

The food is delicious. The squash fritters are a very unique and tasty starter. The mains are also well portioned and delicious. The most important part is the service of the four ladies that worked there tonight, they were fabulous. It was a busy night, however, they did a great job. Delivering all the take away meals, seating the customers, checking Covid Passports, serving the drinks and the food ensuring that all the needs of the patrons were met. Kudos to the staff for their excellent professionalism. The music is a tad too loud for our liking, however, I guess that's what the young ones like these days.

Yummy food, but the service was extremely slow. We waited for 40 minutes to get our meal, so plan accordingly.

TERRIBLE customer service during busy hours.

We waited 20 minutes before the host even talked to us, it was impossible to get her attention, she seated two people in 20 minutes and we were just standing there.

She then informed us that the wait would be up to an hour, 20 minutes into our wait. Would have really appreciated being told what the wait times were sooner. Complete waste of time, she was rude and unapologetic when we were asking.

I know it was busy but it would have taken 5 seconds to tell us about the hour long wait, felt BAITED.

Like others have said, the service is slow. However, the food is so delicious that I didn't mind. Leave yourself lots of time to eat here. Three flavors pad thai was amazing. Music was god awful, but we had a laugh at it

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH KHAO SAN ROAD.
I have been a loyal customer since a few months but these last experiences have been so bad I wont go there anymore! I prefer much more Pai - very close.

1. I went to the restaurant with my family last week - service is extremely slow, not organized and the music is so loud you cant have a discussion.

2. The worst: I came to the restaurant Wednesday 13/10 to take away some food. The girl at the entrance is just the most antipathic person Ive ever met. Looking at her phone and not taking care of clients - no smile, she seems so annoyed. I ordered Fresh rolls to take away. I waited 15 min and got the wrong dish - fried rolls instead. I went back to ask if it would be possible to change to have what I initially ordered. She looked at me and just asked me to pay again if I want order again. I was so furious, asked to talk to the manager.
The manager was not believing me at the beginning making me feel as a liar in front of everybody, confronted me to the girl taking orders. What an horrible feeling for a CLIENT! And at the end she accepted to do the change with no additional fee.

Kindly note for the management: It costs you much more to lose clients and let people furious than replacing a dish at 12CAD.
If you are not taking care of your clients they will go somewhere else, there is lot of choice in town and you are not the best!

Had a late night craving for PAI but we couldn’t get in so we went to Khao San Road. Had the papaya salad, Bangkok Pad Thai, and Khao Soi. The meal was unbelievable! We got spicy for all 3. Pad Thai actually tasted like our favourite from Khao San Road.

I’d actually prioritize this thai restaurant when in the area next.

I lived in Thailand for 8 years and can say it’s very difficult to find places in Canada that actually do authentic Thai food. Khao san hits it bang on. The spice is where it needs to be, the ingredients are fresh and the service is wonderful. I ordered the khao soi, it was amazing. Exactly like you get in Chiang Mai.

The vibe and atmosphere of the place is great. Definitely get a spot inside. We went for lunch on Saturday and there was no line up. Also perks that they have a full vegan menu!

Love the food here! My favourite dish is the khao sao, it's rich and flavourful. Definitely recommend it.

Love that they vegan options here. It has got a really nice downtown vibe. Servers are nice. Our favourite is vegan green curry and green curry fried rice with thai iced tea. Best vegan thai food in downtown.

The pad Thai is one of the best. Green curry was good too but not as good as the other popular thai place. Will definitely be going back. Yum!

I wasn't impressed with my order this past weekend. I ordered a three flavour chicken pad thai. I felt like my noodles were drier then what I remembered and there were clumps of noodles stuck together. I was very disappointed as this was supposed to be my birthday dinner. This is the only time I have ever felt let down, so I will give it a go again in the future. Hopefully this doesn't happen again.

Great atmosphere, good portions. Didn’t rock my socks off but I’m definitely going to be visiting once again soon.

Update: grown to love this place more over the years. Keeping a star off because if you order their Pad Thai from Ritual with veggie and tofu, they put shrimp in it by default so you have to make sure you emphasize ‘vegetarian - no meat’ on ritual orders of this dish.

Despite long wait times, they were very quick on order/serving the dishes, which were all very delicious! Recommend checking it out:)

Worst service ever! Food is alright but staff here are downright rude. This place is not worth it and please eat somewhere else unless you like rude servers. Some people just do not know how to talk to customers especially the woman with the pony tail working in the front.

Always delicious, one of my favourite restaurants in the city. Excellent flavours, attentive staff, beautiful restaurant.

One of the best places to get Thai food in the city. However after being asked to hold a few min to then sit listening to the serve punch in orders because all they did was put the phone down for 15 min, ranking a 1 star. The 45-1hr wait time I understand as they are busy. Holding for 15. Unacceptable.

This was the best Thai food I've had in a long time. Everything was so fresh. The service was excellent and fast. The restaurant is very clean. There is inside and outside dining available. They also have a very good gluten free menu.

Stopped in for dinner and was very impressed with the food and service. Our server (Ploy) was so helpful, kind and very patient. Definitely coming here again:)

Ordered over the phone. Servers were friendly and efficient. Ordered three flavours chicken pad Thai, shrimp green curry fried rice, garlic chicken, and a side of extra rice.

Pad Thai wasn't very good. Not enough tamarind, spice was weak for a medium, and the chicken was very dry. Shrimp green curry fried rice (medium spicy) was very spicy compared to the medium spicy pad Thai. The shrimp tasted and smelled like raw sewage.

Garlic chicken was very dry.

Side of rice and the rice in the fried rice was overcooked and mushy.

Delivery and food ready to go was stacked up on the pickup counter. The manager was telling the staff not to do that though.

Would not order from here again.

Really enjoyed the squash fritters! And the Thai Iced tea, AND the sticky fried rice. But everything else was a miss. I'm guessing this is bec of covid and indoor dining having just opened up. I know they're good, I used to dine here all the time!

First time we order thai milk tea we received big containers about 500ml for 5$ each.second time we ordered thai milk tea they gave us small 250ml cups for 5$?

Been coming to Kao San for years now and they just do Thai food so well. Favorite combination would be the squash fritters with their delicious dipping sauce, and of course the Kao Soi. So rich in flavor, excellent noodles and the beef is just slow cooked goodness. There’s a lot of great food on the menu, but the about two are my go to.

Great food. Only suggestion would be to use different cardboard boxes for take out. The portions are so big most guests take the leftovers home and they put them in Styrofoam containers. So bad for the environment!

I order quite often from this restaurant on Uber eats, tonight I tried to place an order 3 times and they kept cancelling it because they could not accommodate my modifications without any call or explanation of anything. I called them the first time to ask them why my order was cancelled and they said it was because they could not take the tofu out of the spring rolls which was not even a note for the spring rolls anyway it was for the pad Thai but because I ordered it as a combo it put the note on both. I tried to place the order again after modifying it and my order was cancelled again so I called back and they told me it was because another thing I ordered they could not change which was again because the note went onto both items because I ordered it as a combo. It was an $150 order and they can’t even take the time to call me and explain what’s wrong with my order instead just cancelling it with no explanation. I even explained to the girl on the phone to just make it how ever they can then if they can not do the modifications and she said no I have to change it myself so I will definitely not be ordering from here again because of the poor customer service.

Today i come here as uber delivery. The service is so good, especially the asian boy in this restaurant, so kind and friendly. Someday, i will come here as customer and i will give him a lot of tip

We have ordered takeout from Khao San Road several times and it always hits the spot. Certainly our most favourite and best tasting Thai spot in the city. We never think twice about where to order from if we have a Thai craving.

Their pad Thai is authentically flavourful and portions are quite large. I also highly recommend their curries but it only comes with a small qty of rice. I think I can handle my spice but wow their “spicy” is veryyyy spicy and “medium” was quite spicy (can’t imagine what “Thai spicy” is like haha) so if you can’t handle spice well I’d recommend mild!

Finally! After numerous late-night deliveries we visited our preffered Thai food restaurant. Very nice admosphere, nice service and of course.very delicious Thai food.

UPSTAIRS BAR: Friday night, couple days before nye, they were majorly understaffed and took about 10 minutes to get our drinks. Otherwise good vibes highly recommend.

The new place is a bit more like PAI then their original restaurant. I love both:). The ambiance is great and food is amongst the best Thai food you can get in Toronto!

It as an okay thai place; I went with a vegan friend and they had a separate vegan menu which was cool; I can't say I was impressed with the taste of the food but their decor is amazing; if you're looking to take photos for Instagram this is your place.

If I could leave negative 5 stars I would but the lowest option is one. Called to place a take away order literally at 4: 57pm when they reopen at 5pm and explained that I would be ok with them processing it at 5pm rather than straight away and they wouldn’t take my order! AND hung up on me in the middle of asking super politely to boot! I was trying to explain that I needed to the order to be processed right at 5pm cause I was in a rush. If I had called at 4 or even 4: 30 or 4: 45 I could understand but literally a couple of minutes before you open? ! Just an FYI, my sister is a local customer and literally lives across the street. DO NOT EXPECT ANY FUTURE AND FURTHER BUSINESS NOR RECOMMENDATIONS FROM US. Extremely bad business. Fortunately Thai Princess which has been in the hood for a lot longer and is an amazing solid place for Thai is also right across the street and that’s exactly where we will remain going for Thai in the neighbourhood. You think Khao San Road would be more competitive considering there is a better Thai restaurant right across the street? !? !? Start with communication and manners.they still get people very far.

I rate a Thai or Cambodia place based on one item alone - the Khao Soi. That perfect concoction of coconut milk, lime, lemongrass, fish sauce, curries, spice, ginger, and other goodness where rice noodles and chicken bathe in. And the Khao Soi at Khao San Road does not disappoint. Ask for at least spicy or Thai spicy for a truer experience.

Now nestled in a modern space, it pairs up nicely with its upstairs dinner only neighbor NaNa. Friendly owner and staff. Always a wait but we were surprised with the availability for two in short order during the Friday lunch rush. Freezing temps may have scared some faithfuls away but that's exactly why you come here for good spicy comfort food on a cold Toronto day.

I absolutely love thai food. And this place is definitely one if the top best thai places in the GTA. Their Kao soi was delicious and so was their pad Thai and green curry. Very friendly staff. I would highly revommend this place to anyone who loves thai food. Will definitely leave you craving for more.

Delicious food, fun atmosphere, and great service! One of the few restaurants that have all 3 criteria I look for. Arrive when they open if you’re a big group or want a guaranteed seat without a wait! They don’t take reservations and they were full 40 mins after opening at 5 pm. If only they had a nice mango sticky rice to end the meal with!

What we ordered:

Garlic shrimp - big, delicious, juicy and crispy! Good balance of garlic and lemon grass. The dipping sauce is definitely made in-house as you get wonderful sweetness with a balance of lemon grass and fish sauce. Far in comparison from the generic sweet chilli sauce served in most places. Pair it with the crisp bed of cabbage it lays on.it’s not just for decoration!

Bangkok style pad Thai with chicken - spice level 6 (Thai spicy) - Hands down the BEST pad Thai I’ve had in Canada! You can taste the quality of ingredients.from the nice dry sauces rice noodles to the pieces of small dried shrimp and tofu. Delicious! The right spice level for me. I highly suggest it! If you have good spice tolerance then you’ll definitely enjoy level 6.slight sweat and nose sniffles haha!

Khao Soi with chicken - spice level 6 (Thai spicy) - warmth deliciousness in a bowl! Definitely a must in the cold weather! Rich curry soup is so warming like a big hug. Next time I will ask for extra noodles, if available! If not, a side of rice and to have the garlic shrimp to accompany as it would be deliciousness to pair. Maybe a Level 7 if spice too!

Great tasting food with no complaints. Cool vibe and good atmosphere. They have a nice bar upstairs as well that is worth a shot. All in all, a sweet experience.

Ordered the pad Thai and the yellow curry. After eating two bites, we found a piece of hair inside the pad Thai. The waitress apologized and asked if we wanted something else. We ordered the khao soi and the spring rolls. Took a second bite of the spring roll and found another piece of hair inside. What are the chances you will find two piece of hair inside two different dishes. Anyways the waitress apologized again and gave us some discount. The taste of the food was alright but they need to do something about their hair situation. Until then I will stay out.

Totally worth the wait, the food is served in a timely fashion and the quality of the meals are superb. Highly recommend booking in advance as it's a popular destination.

This place is like Thai food training wheels. Why is this place so busy? There is way better Thai food in the city. This was the weakest Thai Ive ever had and Ive had a lot. Not worth the wait, the mediocre service or the hype. We waited more than 2 hours from the time we entered to the time we were served and the food was bland and small portioned.

Came here on a recommendation from a local and it did not disappoint. Be prepared to wait as they don't take reservations but it's worth the wait. I luckily didn't have to wait too long as a solo eater, but the couple behind me had a 45 min wait. I had the pad Thai three ways w chicken and I got it thai spicy (which DEFINITELY has more of a kick). Cool place. Very loud inside so be prepared to yell at your dinner mates. Regardless it needs to be on your "to eat" list.

I had a spicy Pad Gra Prow and Thai Iced Tea. I waited a little longer than I expected for the food, but it was worth the wait. The portions of the dishes are pretty big

Really enjoyed the Pad Thai, but they want you to leave right when you are finished the last bite b/c they are so busy. Not recommended if you want to enjoy a bit of conversation after your meal. I recommend take out.

I can’t believe this restu has so many positive ratings. We ordered so many things and almost everything sucked. The pad Thai, even though it was shrimp, tasted like spoiled chicken. The shrimps were so under cooked that it barely came apart when I tried to take a bite out of it. The beef, well, let’s say plastic chews better. Never again.

Admittedly, I liked the old location better. Something about the old semi-underground space that was dimly lit and served great food won me over. This space is brighter and bigger. The shared tables are cramped. There is an upstairs which was poorly advertised that seemed to serve cheaper snacks. It wasn’t open when I was there for dinner which I found odd (so much wasted space). Overall I feel the vibe has changed the the food is still great. My go to is now Pai instead though.

Best Thai I have ever had. Entire staff was friendly and I had a chance to meet the owner who was really passionate and engaging. Looking forward to making this a must eat everytime I am in TO. Pad Thai was delicious.

This is tucked away in a corner but is well known enough to always be busy. The food and prices are decent and the upstairs waiting area is a great place to chill and have drinks while waiting for a table. Definitely a must go for Thai. Their spicy is pretty spicy! (Asian here)
