Khao Thai Restaurant

We discovered this restaurant online while walking in the neighborhood last Saturday. It has a nice street patio, and the lunch combos menu offers good prices. The service was fast and friendly, which we really appreciated.

The atmosphere was great. The service was excellent as they helped us to choose the food we want to try.
Best Thai food ever.

Reserved a table 2 days ago and no table when we were there. No solution. Very disappointed. Will never come back.

Small restaurant but warm and cozy for sure. Food was delicious and hot when served not just warm. I would recommend.

We come here often and our family spends around $200 regularly. Yesterday we ordered our usual green curry which was terrible this time. We told the server that we cannot eat it, as it’s bitter and has too much turmeric and curry powder. She was very argumentative and said that’s how we always make it and no one else has complained. I told her we come here all the time and always order it. She said we can add sugar to it but cannot replace the dish. Needless to say the sugar only made it worse. Very disappointing customer service for such a nice establishment in heart of Byward market. We have noticed the food quality there these days is hit and miss. And now… no attention to customer service as well. They have lost our loyalty as we are going to find a different go to Thai restaurant now.

No place does Thai food like Khao Thai. I’ve absolutely loved every dish I’ve ordered from here! Been here 5+ times and the dishes, presentation and service is just exceptional.

Their Khao Soi is the love of my life and I honestly wouldn’t mind coming home to it every night… It’s on the heavier side of the soup spectrum, made with red curry paste & coconut cream. The broth is both savoury and sweet.

I would also recommend the green curry & the grilled chicken skewers. Reminds me of the $1 chicken skewers I would buy when I was in Bangkok. It’s grilled to perfection!

Incredibly delicious food and drinks! Everything tastes fresh and flavourful. The drinks are so creative and fun!

Happy to be back for a meal, rather than just take-out. Lovely staff and some of the best Thai food in the city. Definitely coming back.

The staffs are welcoming, but the food tastes really bad. The worst Thai restaurant I’ve had for a while. The sticky rice is dry and Pan Thai is extremely sweet and soggy.

Delicious cocktails, cute patio, sweet and patient service. Plates were big. 40$ for one main dish, one cocktail and one split appetizer:)

Good service staff, smiling, delicious food. Beautifully arranged dishes, my husband likes Tom Yum Kung very much. I live in Quebec, if I go to Ottawa again, I definitely have to come to this restaurant again.

The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive to us throughout our meal. Food was of simply excellent. Highly recommend!

Super delicious! I had a spicy Gaeng Panang and Hot Toddie. Both were amazing. The presentation is so beautiful here too. A really nice place to go with friends or a date!

Absolutely disgusting tasting food with noisy & loud backgroud people talking. Small room/space with tables about 10cm close to each other. I found some green leaf on my spoon and I had to have it changed because it looks like somebody picked their teeth with this spoon and somehow it got on my table right after. The fried noodle and coconut salmon has a herbal smell and taste that makes me nausous. I wish I could give 0 star but it doesn‘t allow me.

Also, food is overly priced here. Two dry as
Fk chicken skewers+2spring rolls (that u could buy in Asian supermarket for 5$ whole pack) with orange and some peanut butter on top is 18$, main trays/meat dish (small 1 person serving) are close to $30. If u must come here for some god- forbidden reason, I recommend you to order A LOT of rice (so u could balance the overly spiced dish).

SUCH. GOOD. FOOD.i’d highly recommend! We came as a group of 15, and despite how many of us there were, they staff was INCREDIBLY friendly and accommodating! Their bucket drinks are also a hit.i’d highly recommend coming - very authentic, and also had large portions, you won’t be disappointed!

Overall, tasty food! Got pad Thai, chicken red curry and papaya salad.all was delicious. Service was great. Patio was super cute.

The food and cocktail we received were excellent, especially their salmon in young coconut. The ambiance was cozy and upscale for a Thai restaurant in Ottawa. Even if we ate inside, since the outdoor seating was full, I have to say that the outdoor seating looks very inviting.
The service was also good and friendly.
However, service was slow. We went on a Tuesday and the restaurant was pretty full, so we ended up waiting 35-40 minutes for our food. The cocktail, while delicious, was small and the portions of jasmine rice we ordered also could've been bigger.
I'd still give this restaurant an 80% rating since the food truly was some of the best Thai food I ever ate. I would recommend it to people ready to wait a bit to get their order.

Great food but took 85min for an online pickup order.

The satay chicken skewers are a must try - they were super tender and served with a sweet peanut sauce. We also had 2 curries, which tasted pretty ordinary. Food came at a reasonable time and our server was attentive. My biggest issue is that they sat us in the corner of the restaurant next to the window where some guy was cleaning even though there were lots of empty tables in the restuarant.

Excellente cuisine thaïe raffinée, authentique et savoureuse! Ambiance chaleureuse.la soupe Tom gakai est à se jeter par terre de même que nos plats principaux. Un peu dispendieux mais de qualité. Situé dans un coin populaire, près du by market.

I am never disapointed whenever I eat there. Food is delicious and it has a great atmosphere! Loved their patio!

The waiter dropped the mangoes on the table and asked me if I wanna eat them. I was like "ah? What are you saying? ! ". I said NO and please bring me a new one. He brought the same one back as he used a fork to take them which still came with the holes from the fork. This was so disappointing. I asked another waitress to bring a new one. No one apologized to me. I would not go back gain! Definitely not acceptable!

Excellent and authentic Thai in a warm and inviting family atmosphere. The Khao Soi Gai transported me to the streets of Chiang Mai! Thanks so much for a lovely meal.
