The food was amazing, but the service was a bit lacking. There were only 2 servers on Friday (the busiest day of the week for the restaurant)! I hope they can improve upon this. But overall, it was a good time.
This is a beautiful sushi restaurant in little Italy, from the outside it doesn't look like much but the inside is beautifully decorated and the service has been phenomenal everytime I've went. This is becoming my favorite sushi spot in Ottawa.
We were there a bit early, so we were there alone. Great service, and when we had questions (sushi newbies) very informative. And prices were reasonable for sushi. The homemade teriyaki sauce was fantastic
The food is nice, although more expensive than it should, likely due to the location. The staff is generally quite nice. However where they consistently drop the ball is on the take-out service. I have had several poor experiences, and it happened again today. They don't answer the phone before 4: 30 p.m. I called at at 4: 37 to place an order and was told that it would not be ready before 6: 00 p.m. I asked why and was told that there were too many orders in line for take out. I argued that it did not make sense since they just opened.to my knowledge they don't take orders on line. I was told that these were orders that were made ahead of time, like yesterday. The food is nice, but this is a far cry from a 5 stars, clearly they are short staffed, or they just don't care. You would think that after 3 years of pandemic they would try to recoup their loss, apparently not. I even called once and was told that they would only offer the sushi menu that day. It is a long drive for us to get there, so since this situation has happened to us several times, and nothing has changed this is our last try. If you intend to go there, I suggest to go in person, don't waste you time trying to get take-out, unless of course you order days ahead.which frankly is ridiculous.
The sushi was really good and quite affordably priced in my opinion. There was several vegan and vegetarian options (some of the vegetarian options could also be made vegan by asking for no tempura). The server was also very nice. Highly recommend.
Kiko Sushi Bar, located in the Preston Square Building at the iconic Preston street in little Italy, just a stroll from Down's lake and Ottawa's Arboretum, is a culinary little gem that deserves a visit for a taste of reality good sushi.
I had ebi tempura and a Maki platter that was absolutely delectable, the tempurized shrimp were cooked to perfection, the batter was nice and crispy while the 3 different varieties of rolls, 6 cucumber rolls, 6 California rolls, and 6 spicy runs rolls, all of them had character and very precise flavours, from the clean, fresh crispy crunchy cucumber roll, the spicy California roll with its sezt of spiced up mayo to the moderately piquant flavourful umammy rich tuna, the experience was greatly pleasant.
The presentation of the dishes are inviting, with a wabi-sabi character that makes it simple, yet elegant, nothing more nothing less.
Service is super friendly and courteous, attentive and with true concern for the patron's enjoyment. When you found yourself in Ottawa visiting little Italy and fell to have a wonderful sushi experience, make sure to drop by Kiko Sushi Bar. You'll not regret it!
PS the only little detail that didn't derail the experience was the fact that they didn't have calpis, though I'm sure they'll do somethingabout it
