Super salty, place was empty when we came in and it still took almost 30 minutes to get food in front of us. The salmon sashimi was sliced so thin it was equal to 1 pieces of sashimi from a regular restaurant. Waiter brought three dishes and charged us for them, that we didn’t order. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I have never left sushi leftovers behind, but here a dozen rolls were left on the table. Friendly staff, but not very attentive.
The staff is very kind and efficient! Food is always made with care and displayed pleasantly! The atmosphere is also very welcoming! Always pleased with each visit!
Have chosen this location many times because they have good food and good service. Today the service disappointed us, chosen all you can eat and just made 1 order and when asked for an additional plate with just 3 pc of sashimi the waiter told that the kitchen is closed. Always we dine in very late and have received good service but today June 17 the service was really disappointing.
Place was great would come again. Got served by a younger gentleman with curlier hair. Loved his service and gave a good recommendation. Gives me good impression on kona.
Did a takeout order on feb4/23 Excellent service over the phone, the lady was very understanding and kind, receiving our sushi was excellent other than missing chopsticks
Our server - Courtney, was an absolute charm. Her service was attentive, friendly, fast and informed. She answered all our menu questions and made excellent recommendations. Tempura Sheimp was 1 of the best we've had in a long time, the miso soup was very tasty and nice generous portion, the Envy and? Rolls were absolutely fantastic. Finishing our meal with the deep-fried cheesecake was perfect.only CON was the portion size, it was tiny but delicious
Place has great food and amazing service. Really friendly staff and management. Offers all you can eat option. Great sashimi, really liked the envy sushi rolls.
Stopped in for lunch while we were in town shopping for the day & decided to go here because we LOVE the La Salle location so we wanted to give this one a go! The food was so great as always but the wait time here was a lot longer then expected. It wasn’t busy so I’m not sure if it was just an off day or what. This location is always super small too. So if you want to dine in I would recommend calling ahead if it’s peak lunch/dinner hours. Our waitress was SO great & made the experience wonderful, especially for my husband who has never been here before & was having a hard time finding something he’d like. That said, if the person you’re dining with doesn’t love sushi & they rely on other menu items to get their fill while you have sushi I would recommend something else. They only have a handful of items that aren’t sushi/seafood related so it’s hard to fill up. (My husband was pre warned about this but he wanted to come anyways)
Moving on to their dessert! ABSOLUTELY save room for dessert when eating here! They have deep fried Twinkie’s & Cheesecake! Which are just to DIE FOR! The Twinkie’s come with your choice of topping chocolate, strawberries Or caramel & I definitely recommend getting them all! & the cheesecake is just AMAZING. The tempura is so crunchy and delicious. It reminds me of funnel cake almost. Absolutely a must try.
GROSS! Why is the floor so sticky? Had to walk down into a musty basement to use the bathroom, which wasn’t clean either. And why is the ice machine next to the bathroom? Isn’t this a sushi place? I expect conditions to be much more sanitary when I’m ordering raw fish. The service was ok, but nothing special. Their Big Mac sushi was interesting….
The quality went down hill, maybe i had a bad night but it was hotter inside then outside. The climate made the experience so bad, too hot it used to be the go to spot and the number one AYCE in windsor
Really delicious sushi, hands down. But no AC so on a hot day it was really hot in here so much so that you couldn't really enjoy your food and sitting inside. Also it was very crowded place with little seating. But delicious sushi!
I've gone to this place several times and every time the sushi is to die for. The spicy mayo is so good that I even use it for sandwiches when I'm at home 5/5 would 100% recommend
Please do not get the bowls or the Big Mac roll or crunch I ask for the beef bowl it tastes like slop there was gravy mush type and rice what’s musy and the vegetables over priced menus here are to crazy
Ordered delivery and did not receive the correct order. Very frustrating. Called back and was told a new skip driver was called and that we would get our food. Well an hour and a half later we canceled on skip and requested a refund. Terrible order management. This is not the first time we have had issues, but it will be the last time. Tired of trying to give this restaurant another chance.
We are not really sushi people but this was excellent. They were able to accommodate our food issues and it was the best we have tried. Will definitely go back. The fusion style makes it fresh. Our waitress Jack LeAnn was extremely helpful and Pat did a great presentation of our order. So glad I asked Jordan where his place was.
My boyfriend and I went here for the first time yesterday around 3pm. We love going out for sushi and we were excited to try kona! Kona has some of the best quality food we've had out of all the sushi places we have been to.we got calamari and scallops to start - the sauce they came with was to die for.the scallops and calamari were not rubbery at all, the tempura was on point.everything was perfect! The staff was so friendly, our server was a sweetheart.the kitchen staff was very charismatic and the conversations we overheard from behind the counter were quite entertaining! Also, the drinks at kona are amazing! Mine was a smashed cucumber with empress gin and my boyfriend got a crouching tiger.i will definitely be recommending this place to all of my sushi loving friends. Thanks for such an awesome experience, we will be coming back in the future 100%!:)
A very unique take on sushi, very much fusion including rolls like the 'za which is coated in pizza sauce and melted cheese. Excellent ingredients. While I don't love every roll there's something here for everyone. Rolls are nice and big with lots of pieces. Love the Take 10 deal with 10 rolls, soups, spring rolls and an appetizer.
10/10 will always be my favorite place to get sushi. They have stuff other sushi places don't. My favorites are the Yellow Dragon roll and the vampire roll.
I ordered this via skip tonight and it was amaaaaaaazing. Even if I was petty and looking for something to complain about, I would have absolutely nothing to say. The presentation was only outdone by the taste.
Small little sushi place with an huge selection! All you can eat buffet! Staff was amazing! Very polite, informative on what we're ordering on the menu.
Definitely eating sushi in your car is a challenge lol, but was worth it during the 5th or 6th covid lockdown for indoor eating. The staff at Kona worked their butts off! Food was delicious!
Update: I ordered tonight via Skip the Dishes as they do not have their own delivery service. I did not receive any of my sushi. I called Kona immediately and I was informed they did give this to the driver along with the bag of hot items I did receive. I contacted Skip, their driver said he delivered what was received from Kona. Needless to say, I did not receive my order and was inconvenienced, having to order from another sushi restaurant. I was able to get a refund for the items not delivered, but the inconvenience was not reimbursed. Definitely disappointed and will impact my decision to order from here again
I’ve ordered multiple times and never disappointed. I love their creative spin on sushi rolls, so many delicious and unique options I can’t pick a favourite!
What a unique experience! AYCE Curbside was an amazing idea and was one great way to enjoy all you can eat during lockdown. Maddie was our server - she was so sweet. God bless her for coming to our car every so often in the chilly weather. The service was a little slow (we were there for 2 hours or so and ordered about 3 times with 5-7 items in each order; we don't blame Maddie for it at all. There were only 1-2 other cars with us - so the slow service is what knocked it down a star.then the fact of paying the price (30 dollars or so a person) for that wait - at lunch time - took it down another. The Chicken Teriyaki bowl was delicious. They have such unique Rolls that I never heard of but was excited to try. I do recommend, despite the loss of two stars- and hope you get Maddie.
An intimate place to dine on a VARIETY of sushis! They have a little something called chicken waffle sushi which I haven't heard of before in my few years of sushi dining experience. Many more different dishes to try. Definite recommendation for someone looking to try exciting and enticing sushi dishes!
Absolutely amazing/delicious! Their KONA sauce is to die for! It is their house specialty sauce! Unique Canadian “sushi” style options as well! Super fresh, you can taste the quality, care put into the food! Saki options as well, although I do wish they had more variety with that, but still nice to have the option in general! Very fast very convenient and over all, very Satisfied!
Paid $65 so I can receive my order like this. Does not taste good, extremely horrible packing. Whomever rolled my sushi did a sloppy job. I literally wasted my money. Never again
I posted a 5 star review about a year ago. My last experience was quite bad. Had the AYCE. Rolls were empty and falling apart. Some pieces were just tempura batter and nothing inside. Other rolls were sloppy and just not what they normally serve. Why don’t I contact them about my experience since it could be a one off? Well, I did. Reached out on FB and all my msgs were viewed and I didn’t receive a reply. It’s now 30$ for ayce. You would think the price increase would be reflected in the quality but no the overall quality was pretty bad. Definitely won’t be returning after the experience and lack of follow up by management. Plenty of better places that deserve my business.
The All You Can Eat menu was spectacular. Definitely try it out.
I ordered mainly a variety of salmon sushi and sashimi. As well as every single appetizer to try it out. Everything was fresh, cooked to order and I had no complaints. The salmon and tuna sashimi is to die for.
The service is friendly and it has a cozy atmosphere. My server in particular was deserving of praise. The owner is also a nice and understanding person. Thank you to everyone that works there.
My favourite place to get sushi in Windsor! Everything is always super super fresh and tasty. They have such a great variety of rolls to choose from too. Their Kona sauce is to DIE for.
Went out to this restaurant on a Friday afternoon and waited over 50 minutes without getting the food. After 50 minutes the waitress came over and said that she had forgotten to key in the order. What a joke! After waiting another 20 minutes we only got half our order. The manager never came to apologize and we still were charged full price for our meal.
Pricy but amazing fresh. The only but is the parking situation I turned 3 times and finally found one close enough. Im handicap and I need to park close enough.
Good food, a bit pricey. They missed part of our order and would not provide a refund. They only offered a credit or they would make our missed food, which didn't help as I was 30 minutes away. When contacting management through the email provided I did not receive a response. Was spending $80+ here every couple months, but unfortunately we won't be going back.
I have been to many sushi places. This is by far my favourite. Just look up the menu. These people are DOING THINGS. They offer a great range of innovative sushi dishes. Prices are great for the quantity and quality. I have to admit, I was VERY skeptical when I walked in. The atmosphere is unassuming and the people prepping the food in full view appeared to be very young which led me to question how seasoned and skilled they were.
LESSON LEARNED.
The sushi was phenomenal. The flavour combinations were unexpected and delightful. If you are thinking of sushi, this is it boss.
I always get takeout from here. I ordered again today and I was disappointed that they changed the Kona sauce. It now comes in a little bag and taste very different. I miss the other one: (
Our absolute favorite sushi spot in Windsor! We come back time and time again and bring our friends too. Rolls are amazing, sashimi is awesome, and the atmosphere is great too. Highly recommend!
The All-You-Can-Eat menu is quite large. The staff were friendly and I enjoyed my dining experience. Overall the quality is comparable to other sushi places in Windsor. Of note, I was surprised to hear that tuna rolls (i.e. Rainbow) require an upcharge.
It's unfortunate. I was ordering sushi everyday here. While labour costs are accounted for, 80% rice now requires $30 delivery before free delivery. Considering AYCE would have a larger marginal cost due to more rolls being eaten, I will no longer be ordering from here.
So many delicious options for All You Can Eat, and large portions too. Service was amazing and tables were separated with dividers so there was minimal interaction. I'm definitely going to get more sushi from here, I need to try everything on the menu!
Not my first time and definitely won't be my last. Absolutely amazing sushi. The wait time is always a bit longer than they tell you but definitely worth the wait.
Food was fantastic, a great variety of choices. Staff was very friendly and helpful as it was our first time visiting. We will definitely be going back *I apologize my first review of 4 stars was in error, definitely a 5 star experience
Their menu seems so promising but unfortunately the food under delivered. If you do go get The Dilly - such a fun roll. Also the deep fried Twinkie was fantastic.
I went for dinner this week. I participated in the “all you can eat” section of the menu and it was delicious. Everything I tried I enjoyed. The service was fast and very friendly and the environment of the restaurant made the experience 5/5. Will be returning.
Went for the first time recently with my wife. It's a small location with only a couple of tables. The atmosphere is a dimly lit one. We waited a bit for our table, then were seated at the back which is close to the rear door. After about 10 min both of us were uncomfortably cold. We asked for the all-u-can eat menu and were given a list to choose appetizers and main courses. Our appetizers showed up in a couple min, but the main courses didn't come. After 15 min of waiting, we asked the waitress and she came back a couple min later saying there was a mix up. She offered to make up for it with drinks/dessert. Finally the main course showed up. The Firecracker rolls are great, as were the Philly Cheese steak rolls. We tried a couple other rolls, the waitress suggested one of their new rolls "surf & turf" and we asked for it, but that was a big mistake, gave us both instant heartburn from the spicy garlic. After having being there for more than an hour (where the great majority of time was spent waiting) we were both extremely uncomfortable from the constant cold draft. I don't understand why restaurants don't place portable heaters in the winter in front of tables close to doors. Do you really want your customers to be uncomfortable? They also had some interesting dessert rolls so we ordered one, but again, another 10-15 min of waiting and nothing showed up, so we payed and left with no dessert on the horizon. Also no drink or dessert on the house as promised. There were only 6 tables so we didn't understand all the issues with service.
In summary, this is a small sushi joint with a couple of good rolls on their menu, but I would just order for delivery or take-out, as the service left much to wish for.
Took one of my friends out for dinner and decided to try Kona. Amazing experience. The drinks were fresh and complimented the sushi well. Loved the variety and the different kinds of rolls. A new take on sushi. The house sauces were great. Friendly service. The whole dining experience was awesome. Will definitely be back! Can't wait!
5 stars. Went into kona sushi the other night and the sushi was incredible. Made me feel like I was back in Vancouver it was so good. Staff was super attentive and nice, Mackenzie made some incredible sushi rolls with a smile on her face! Highly reccomend
Waited over an hour for three rolls, they were out of the two types of tuna that should be a staple for a sushi restaurant. Rice was dry. It seemed as though they would rather focus on there take away than there seated customers.
Drove across from Michigan to have dinner here with the friend group. Fantastic sushi, their specialty rolls were very different from other sushi I have had. The Firecracker, and crispy crunch roll were the highlights. Meal would've been nearly 200 bucks in the states, was closer to 115 for 5 people. (We had 16 rolls).
This little gem was a pleasure to dine at! We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by Jamie. She was attentive and sweet and knew the menu and offered suggestions. We did not get the all you can eat as we came in for a light meal. But the bill was still very reasonable and under 40$ and we still had some to take home. Friendly staff, good sushi and a welcoming environment and ambiance.
I'm really not that picky with my sashimi. As long as it's fresh, I'm happy. I ordered with delivery from UberEats and received slimy, stinky, unedible sashimi that I couldn't eat. After the first couple of bites, my stomach wouldn't allow me to finish, the 'ripeness' was too strong. This fish had turned. The avocado asparagus salad was tasty, but didn't actually contain more than a bite of asparagus. The cheese wontons were sadly the best part of the meal. Maybe they were having an off day. Really disappointing after hearing great things about this place.
We have just finished our meal and were taken care of by Mac. She was excellent and so was the food. We will be back and would recommend Kona Sushi to anyone looking for a great meal with a great atmosphere and great staff.
I would not recommend going to this sushi restaurant. I saw my server preparing our sushi with 1 inch long blue fake nails and no gloves. When we tried to cancel the order she said that 'the kitchen has already prepared it. ' The vegetable tempura and cheese wontons were also fried in old oil and were poor tasting.
This restaurant, its service and staff are very unprofessional. Like another posted said, if you feel like ruining your day I would definitely recommend coming here.
Everything is store bought frozen items not one thing on the menu had me wanting to come back, the egg rolls were soggy and clearly store bought as i have bought the same exact no name brand.very low quality fish poor service, very understaffed overall just not a very good sushi restaurant.i am hoping to see a lot better places in the walkerville area.
