Best place for Asian groceries. Big enough to have everything you need but not overwhelming like most super stores. Also they have a really cute bakery

Very stinky store, vegetables are fresh but not the seafood. They will sell you rotten fish and meats. I bought pikes last week, everything was fine until I got home and tried to cook it. The smell was so bad I had to through it out

Heard the cashier are very sneaky about changing the customer when they check out. So better double check your receipt before you leave or watch the cashier while she scanning your products!

Have everything except yoghurt which is so strange. I never thought that there would be a grocery store which wouldn't have yoghurt!

Bon magasinage

5 years ago I bought in this store belly pork, and when I open the bag at home the belly was rotten it had bad smell, I threw it in the garbage. Today July 22,2021, at noon I bought in Kowloon Market a whole King fish, it cost around 53 dollars. The same story I was confident that it won't happen again, Unfortunately for my Tthe fish was rotten. I just have learned that lesson. I won't buy again in this store!

My experience here was pretty good as I enjoy the bakery and I can actually find my type of tea here yet the deli was nothing to talk about as for the food that I purchased had no taste whatsoever, even my wife has an asian back ground and knows what the food should taste like and says it was discusting. I will never buy it here again.
10 August 2021 23:45
Lovely place with great prices. Finding food that I can eat as an African can sometimes be hard but at Kowloon I get so much of what I need at the same place. The bakery is also awesome and I recommend for everyone who likes bread
25 July 2021 13:51
Bought same sesame snacks. No expiry date. They were probably made last year. They oil was very old. I threw them in the garbage.

The was another customer in front of me at the pastry, the cash lady was very rude to her, yet she was buying a cake for her daughter and only requested her to add HBD on the cake. Like really! So rude with expired snacksnever again.

The stabbing that took place here was totally this stores fault. They were told repeatedly about the weird black bothering people outside the store. They did nothing.

I was going there every week since Covid started to support them. I was mostly buying their baked chinese buns. Most were $2 each, slightly more expensive than T&T but I was okay with it. As of last week, the price went up by 29 cents. I understand it's a difficult time to run a business but that's more than 10% increase. I usually get 6 buns, so that would be an extra $1.74 for me. I have now stopped going there and started going to T&T. Their buns is still $1.69 each over there. Good luck Kowloon but I cannot afford to support you anymore

Very great selection of products. Can't believe I've never been here before. Lots of good produce + meat and fish. Will definitely be coming back here.
11 June 2021 3:33
They always have a variety of Chinese, Japanese and Korean snacks and candy. I enjoy the prices and wide selection there.
09 June 2021 11:03
Wow. It was my first time here and I was totally amazed at the amount of stuff that you can get here. Even fish, not frozen but on ice and some live seafood. There's even all parts of meat for your delight.fresh bakery items are individually wrapped for your convenience and health. I highly recommend you go here

Okay, I'm going to give them 5 stars because they are one of the best places to get Chinese food in Ottawa, you can get things there that I'm not sure you can get anywhere else outside of China. The problem with Kowloon is that there covid procedures are not really all that good, big problem right now but this pandemic can't go on forever, right?
14 April 2021 17:02
Not a lot of variety in the store and it's a bit more expensive than what I'm use to. It's also small since it is located in downtown Ottawa.
09 April 2021 7:51
Bad cashier bad services, they never care of customer, they make the customer in rush when the customers buy more than 12 items, the package make you confuse, you don't know which item the cashier already packed and you don't know which package belong to you, Then they will give you a signal"get you packages and get out of my sight as soon as possible, " then when you back home, you will find out you have some items missing, and then you will suddenly realize"oh, that package which behinde my bag is belong to me", don't expect the cashier will remind you, if they really doing their job as service customer, they will not make the customer confuse about the package, they will not make you rush, the cashier just happy if you missing some items.

Always loved going to Kowloon market after Church.
Stopped by the other day for a treat, still the best baked goods and service.

Don't buy food from the tall guy in the barbecue section. I asked for half a duck and they only give me a quarter. Cheater!
12 September 2019 17:59
Really good sugar buns and coconut sticks in the bakery. Also has a lot of traditional teas. I like seeing the fish swimming in the tanks but this place smells

Undeniably the best selection of ethnic Asian groceries in Chinatown Ottawa along Somerset.but they don’t necessarily have the best prices. Besides the selection of goods, the presentation and cleanliness of the market is also the best on Somerset. If you want a well setup and tidy market to shop at, any you don’t paying the small premium, then this is your grocery shop in Chinatown Ottawa! If you are super price-conscious plus you know exactly what you want, shop around a bit at the other small markets nearby.
20 July 2019 2:21
I go there only for specific products, like the sushi rice, mushrooms only. It smells really weird inside.
19 July 2019 19:34
Good selection of Asian food. Not that many Asian markets in Ottawa. This is the second best and only one in the core. A bit packed and untidy. Decent fresh seafood and meat counters.
15 July 2019 9:14
I don't want to give the Bakery Server any star at all! He reserved 100 spring rolls at 10: 15am for someone to pick up, the other new cashier told me to wait for 15 mins, I waited until 10: 35am, then has 6 ppl waiting in line, waited for another 20 mins, he let someone who ordered a Birthday Cake to cut in the line, I complaint, he used F word to response, said he has started working from 8: 30am in the morning, he is not the owner of the store, so long line up was not his problem.
11 July 2019 15:57
The only good size Chinese grocery store with BBQ counter in Ottawa Chinatown.
Lots of choice for Chinese dry grocery and fresh Chinese vegetable. Good and reasonably clean counters for fresh seafood and fresh meat.
10 July 2019 6:22
WHY this place always smells like rotten fish? Its really disgusting. The only good chinese market in china town but has very limmited items
21 June 2019 6:51
Great little Asian bodega, love their baked goods and the awesome Asian snack section that has hard to find goodies.
17 June 2019 19:57
You can find here everything you want to make a great dinner, beginning from the cooking pot, to spicy candies, this place is just adorable. I would live there if I could. You need several times to go through it. And every time you come you will discover something new.

Central Ottawa's Asian Supermarket. Clean, great food. Get BBQ pork, vegetables, tofu and check out the meat/fish counter at the back.
26 May 2019 15:03
Great little Asian grocery. The baked BBQ pork buns are out of this world. Will never go back to steamed.
10 May 2019 15:50
I only come here to by ramen. One day, I will buy other things. 5/5 instant noodle buying experience.
08 May 2019 11:59
Good market but a bit outdated, not very clean and with a really bad smell as you step inside. However, it has a variety of Asian products- mostly Chinese. Good value for sure.
05 May 2019 19:00
Asian groceries - it has a little of everything, and the prices aren't bad, but the bakery is always half empty, the produce isn't the freshest. But it is the biggest market other than T&T and very central. Best for dried, canned or packaged foods.
02 May 2019 22:05
Worst supermarket I’ve ever been. The smell is so bad I just can’t understand how people would buy from here
26 April 2019 16:46
A wonderful place to shop! I love the frozen dumplings, they are great alone or in stir-fry and soups as well. And lots of choices too!
26 April 2019 3:01
Asian store with lots of goodies they have roasted duck, fresh seafood, bakery, fresh vegetables, fruits and lots. I got these from their store I missed Asian food price are not bad.

I recently moved to Centertown, and have been looking for good places to get my groceries (hint: the independent on Bank/Somerset just ain’t it). So when I heard about Koowloon Market, I had to check it out.

The things I immediately noticed upon walking in were:

1) Stuff EVERYWHERE. It’s pretty tightly packed in here, wall-to-wall with tons of goods from across Asia, including fresh fruits and veggies, a small bakery in the front, shellfish and meats in the back, with isles of packages goods dominating most of the stores tiny layout. If you’re looking for something Asian that you haven’t been able to find elsewhere (I was looking for my favourite dried Jackfruit chips - which I found!), then I’d bet my last dollar that you’ll find it here.

2) The prices are actually pretty reasonable. To be fair, I didn’t buy any fresh fruits or veggies, but there was such a wide assortment of brands and goods that I was generally able to find what I wanted at a price comparable to or cheaper than T&T. In particular, the non-food items (bowls, cooking utensils, kitchen supplies, etc) were shockingly dirt cheap.

3) The overall vibe. It seems to be a place where mostly familiar locals from within the downtown Asian community shop. It was nice to see that shoppers could communicate with staff in multiple languages, and that service was fast and efficient. With that being said, this is a busy location - so I wouldn’t expect your cashier to stop and chat with you about the weather, if you know what I mean.

I’m pretty happy that I can get some unique foodstuffs and my favourite Asian goodies without having to go all the way to T&T. I might not end up buying my basic groceries there (milk, bread, eggs, meats and so on) but I will be frequenting Kowloon quite a bit in the future!

It's Great market for Asian, and specifically Chinese ingredients. My only issue is the number of the people working there don't speak English or French. When I go there looking for something, I have a hard time figuring out where stuff is, and with the language barrier, I feel like I'm in China.
My leave to the owners: Improve customer communications: English soaking people have money.
10 April 2019 5:47
Smaller store then T & T, have the fresh vegetable and more variety and choice of Chinese ingredient than other place. Price are usually cheaper, Shopping carts and space is smaller and narrower, background Chinese pop music playing feel like i was in Hong Kong.)
09 March 2019 12:28
Great store! You can spend a long time in there discovering thousands of unique products - if you can read the description lol. Just went went back to get Mochi in so many flavors, frozen and room temperature. They have fresh produce as well as a large selection of tea, ramen, fish, sweet treats, and the list goes on.
Don't let the smell turn you off when you walk in, they prep fish in the back. Brave through it and you will find tons of tasty gems.
11 February 2019 23:32
Whole store is kinda dark and smelly, full of over priced stuff. If I were you, I will drive few extra minutes to T&T instead.
09 February 2019 0:15
A really great Asian supermarket for me to get things I need that I can't find at the "Asian foods" aisles at other supermarkets. Definitely much smaller with less variety than T&T, but enough of the important staples and at a convenient location for many people.
19 January 2019 12:37
The smell in here is so bad it turned my stomach immediately after walking in. Would definitely not trust buying any food from such a stinky, dirty store. Left immediately for fresh air.
