We (my wife and I) had a very poor and frustrating experience in Lakeridge Hospital Oshawa. It was our first pregnancy, and we did not get the guidance and support that we needed. It was one of the worst experience of my life, and I would not recommend childbirth at Lakeridege Hospital Oshawa (LHO) to anyone (if they have an option).

Our baby was due mid-April, but when my wife was in 41 weeks, she was scheduled for induction on 4/22 at 10: 30AM. We were late by 15 minutes, and the receptionist was very rude for that. Kept us waiting till 3: 00 pm. Finally, when it was our turn, it turned out that our baby was in breech position, and the doctor told us that my wife will be needing c-section as soon as possible. So, the doctor did his part and put her in the waiting list (blue list) for an operation the very next day. The OB asked her to start fasting from midnight 4/23 and told us that the hospital would call us at 9AM to confirm the time. We waited till 10: 45AM and did not get any call. So, I followed up and asked when we could expect the operation. They said there is limited staff, so we have to wait till 3: 00 pm and that my wife should keep fasting. I don't know how they can expect a pregnant woman to fast for more than 15 hours. But still she did, and we waited thinking this was just a one-time thing.

To our shock, at 3PM, shortly after we arrived at the hospital, they said that the operation can not take place because they are still short staffed. I wonder, why couldn't they inform us about it before we came back to the hospital? My wife is pregnant and fasting for so long, and they did not think it was important to inform us that they could not perform the surgery. That too, they waited till I physically went to the hospital. I was really surprised at their negligence.

LHO asked my wife to fast again from 12AM and come back on 4/24 at 9AM. To be sure, we called the hospital at 7: 45AM, and as we were suspecting, they told us to come back at 12PM. When we visited at 12 p.m, they still did not have the OT team ready and kept us waiting till 3: 40PM before my wife was taken to the Operation Theater. Why is there no transparency and communication from the hospital to patients? Why is the hospital staff never sure when an operation can be scheduled? Why are we punished for being 15 minutes late while the hospital always keeps us waiting for hours?

Even after birth, we had requested to be moved to private room thinking our extended health insurance covered it. But when we realized that our insurance did not cover private rooms, we requested to be moved to the general ward. The postpartum unit said that they did not have any ward available and so they will adjust and not charge us for the private room. However, we received a CAD600 bill after a 2 nights stay in the private room. When we tried to refute and explain what postpartum unit nurse and receptionist had assured us, the finance department said that there are no notes on file that prove what we were claiming. Yes, it was our mistake to not ask for a written confirmation in between all the information that was being dumped on us about the baby and how to take care of him. I really regret trusting the hospital and staff and am really upset with them, but I forgive them as doctors did bring my baby boy to this world safe and healthy.

I am ranting about my experience, hoping the administration team and executives notice these incidents and take actions so that no one else goes through these hassel during one of the most difficult phase of their life.

Wouldn’t even answer a basic question over the phone. The stubbornness and the lack of willingness of the staff to assist with any issue is audacious. They don’t care. Don’t go here

I'm not the kind of person to put things like this on social media but man this is madness. Lakeridge Health Oshawa Emergency is the worst. Twice I've went to the emergency with my toddler. Once when she was just about 18 months we got to the emergency just after 5 am for a chemical burn my child had in her face. I swear to you, there were just about 5 people and there. I had to create a commotion at 11 am just to see a nurse. Not even a doctor. And now at 29 months I pickup my girl from daycare and she has been vomiting none stop from 6: 50 pm this evening. Decided to take her to Lakeridge Health Oshawa Emergency Room just around 10 pm and got G75 waiting ticket. While in the waiting room my daughter began vomiting like crazy and the same time a nurse or staff came in calling a few numbers that from the look of things those people left. The medical person didn't even acknowledge a Child in need of medical assistance and after an hour they announced that the next person to see a doctor is in 7 hours.

This is unacceptable I'm never going back then. I am going to drive to St. Michael hospital in Toronto where my family doctor located than to waste time and money because there is no public parking there.

That facility need better management. I personally as a resident of Oshawa is disappointed. C

First time being in this emergency dept and I would have given it a 5 start but the triage lady was very rude. Abby did my ecg and she is an absolute gem! The woman who did my blood work was super friendly, same with the one who did my nasal swab. The xray team were very efficient and the young male doctor who saw me was very human, down to earth and thorough. He made sure we checked everything. I wish I knew all of their names because they all deserve to be recognized. There is a pregnant nurse with blonde highlights who wasnt taking care of me but you can tell that she loves her job and goes above and beyond even while carrying a little one. I was there today Good Friday from 9: 50am until about 1: 30pm and had all the above completed. A lot of reviews talk about how slow they are but I couldn't believe how fast and efficient they are. Thank you team, I appreciate your dedication to helping us.

For those complaining about wait times if we had to pay for Healthcare we'd get seen immediately because people wouldn't be going for every little thing. Would you prefer that? Think about it. Stop being so entitled. Your kid isn't more important then the child beside you or the elderly person in the wheelchair. Stop complaining! If you're nice to them they'll be nice to you, if you cop an additude then you deserve it right back! I was there today for 3 hours and 40 minutes and that includes letting an elderly gentleman take my spot so he could get his blood work done, and I also let a little girl get her x-rays done ahead of me even though I was waiting longer. Give peace a chance!

Worst hospital I have ever seen. All Staffs are lethargic and irresponsible. Never give answers or solutions. My wife was taken in ambulance to this hospital and treated for head injury but was sent out without any report or treatment. She was not taken care properly and not given even water for 6 hours. I was not even allowed to be with her and I was kept in dark without any status regarding my wife's condition. I was trying to reach hospital to know about the reason why my wife was sent without treatment but couldn't get an answer. Really disappointed they
Way this hospital is operating.

1-Jan-2022.10: 25 pm. 6.5 hours waiting to see the doctor for a very critical sore throat and the only thing that told me is to take Tylenol. I explained her thati have more than 2 days without any food due to that. She also explained me that only with the look of my throat she knows is bactirial or viral. Moving to Toronto hospita

The reviews speak for themselves. Detestable environment, beligerent staff, complete lack of respect for anyone but themselves. Had to remind an administrative staff numerous times to ensure our baby's temperature was being monitored.does she have something better to do? Healthcare might not be your optimal field, I dare say. I would also surmise no one took any semblance of a Hippocratic oath at this establishment. In what universe should it take 7hrs to establish that a 1-year-old has a viral infection? That wasn't rhetorical, I actually would like to know. Pathetic excuse for a hospital. Imagine further staining Oshawa's reputation. No mean feat, to be sure.

Feeling terribly sad,
people are mad
Babies are waiting for 5 hours and more.
This Hospital should care more and have pediatrics for children, if they can't control the people of coming in, no more distancing, this children are exposed even more.

Arrogant and disrespectful staff. Especially the blonde receptionist and blonde lady at registration. No manners whatsoever. Whoever had their shift on 8th July 2021 at 11: 00 am you know who you are. Shame on you both.

Staff are ok, and i can say some of them are better than ok but keep in mind that none of them have any respect towards your time I believe overall no doctor has respect towards other peoples time. So expect long long and long hours to be wasted when you visit them.
