I'm not too familiar with Asian restaurants in downtown Toronto, so when my friend suggested Lee Chem Bistro, I was a bit skeptical considering it was surrounded by other restaurants of other cuisine.
Located on King Street, the restaurant is surprisingly big, providing enough space for many customers. Just like the location, the menu has a variety of comfort Asian food, which is exactly what I was craving. So we ordered some classics such as Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) and Taiwanese Chicken Nuggets.
Being the simple person I am, I was delighted by this restaurant. This is the restaurant you go to if you're feeling homesick, and just want something nice and easy. Service was great, and typically expected from an Asian restaurant. Budget friendly with greatbtasting food, what more could you ask for?
Very fake Chinese food, do not go there if you are actually from China. The materials used are fresh but the dishes are not flavoured correctly, some are overly sweet while the others are not salty enough.
A little difficult communicating with the staff but they treated us very nice and the food was really good. I think you need to know what you want and what dish they really do a good job of.
The restaurant is lukewarm, overall.let me explain. I suppose it's hard to find a decent Shanghai restaurant in the office district without going to Chinatown, so I'll give it that. The set lunches are meant to cater to a non-Chinese audience, for example, having raw salad for the vegetables. Even the rice used is much more glutinous/chewy than the norm. This can be both good and bad, depending on your point of view, however, it's not an authentic experience. Place is big, but a bit hidden since it's essentially a basement alcove of an office building. Music played at the time of visit happens to be instrumental versions of Chinese music. Prices are quite decent, for the area. Taste is decent with a hint of authenticity for the rest of the menu. Fried rice is not half bad. To conclude, their XiaoLongBao/Shangai dumpling (a dumpling with soup inside - be careful, you can burn your tongue!) is the only reason to choose this place, but it's OK to drop by if you don't want to stray too far from the office and want a step up from the food court quality.
Very spacious restaurant with rustic but sleek décor. Good mood lighting and piano instrumentals. Service is quick, great as I caught a show afterwards. Pork belly on rice was basic, a bit salty for my taste. Chili oil and soy sauce is on every table. The crispy tofu however was hot and tender, cooked to perfection. I realize it is only tofu but it was served in its best form. Bathrooms currently not in service. Basement level. High chairs available.
It became my regular dinner spot when my friends and I go to the symphony. Excellent food, great choices. Service is actually too fast so I recommend ordering the appetizers first.
We were prepared to have a wonderful time. We ordered Shrimps and Scallops plate for $25 dollars! We got 5 shrimps, 3 scallops and a black, long hair. Did not have a time to ask them to redo it (or frankly didn't believe that they will actually do it). I took the hair out and placed it in my napkin. Gross I know. Upon telling about this to the waitress I got "Manager is not here and theres is nothing I can do about it. " This place is simply riding on the benefit of the location and people having not a lot of choices to eat something more then french fries and beer. I can tell you not to go but where else would you go? Staying away is still a good idea.
The portion was very large, but some pieces of beef in the beef noodle soup are a little dry and overcooked. The staff are very courteous. Unfortunately they don't accept Amex.
Delicious Chinese food on King St West. I ordered via UberEats, for a dinner for one, it almost costed me $35.
I ordered the noodles with braised ribs and the smashed cucumbers and the fried sesame balls (with red bean paste in it) were free because my purchase was over $20. Overall, the taste of my two dishes tasted authentic for Chinese food, the flavours were there. The meat on the ribs fell off nicely which meant it was well cooked.
I would definitely come back in-person to give them a try!
I have been going here for many years. They always have really great food and very polite staff. My personal favourite is their hot and sour soup, soooo good! If you're not sure what to get I also like to get braised bamboo shoots, dumpling, black peppered beef and vegetable fried rice. I have not eaten inside a restaurant for a while and I was very impressed with the social distancing in place I felt very safe while enjoying my food. If you like Chinese food you'll love this place!
Staffs courteous, food nicely presented. Ginger Beef was little high on sodium content and quantity of green onions to be bit overwhelming. Recommend asking for "light" or half salt if not a big fan of salty food. Soup filled dumpling very good.
Fabulous place for get togethers, a date, night out. Food was delicious, varied assortment, well made and presented, the service was excellent. Price and quantity of food served was reasonable.
It was okay the soup dumplings weren't that flavourful. The wonton noodle soup was mediocre. I guess this place is catered to more of Caucasian clientele.
Were able to find seating on one of the Saturday nights after 9pm. As we walked in, we liked the ambience. The place was buzzing with high energy and weekend vibe. Loved the noodles and the cashew chicken dish. Will go again to experience the good vibe and a pleasant service.
This place has great dim sum options, a nice a la carte menu, and a lovely atmosphere. The plum wine is excellent. Staff is friendly and ready to answer questions. The vibe is very chilled out and the location is spacious.
WARNING: this restaurant serves peanuts complimentary at the start of a meal. Make sure you mention allergies. We mentioned it but we're still given a bowl of nuts, which another server took away when we called it out. Be safe!
I really liked this place! Ordered the “set menu” which came with soup, a main dish, salad, rice, and dessert. Service was quick and good, and the interior of the restaurant was nicely decorated
Came here with a group of co-workers for lunch and was very satisfied with the service and food. Had their soup dumplings, regular pork dumplings, shirmp fried rice, some pulled pork on this soft bun, lettuce leaf w/ shrimp stuffing.sweet and sour chicken, and lastly some sesame seed balls stuffed with sweet red bean paste. Even though I don't know the names of most of the dishes, it seems it was freshly made to order which added to the overall experience. Will definitely go again even if its just to try their lunch specials.
Way too overpriced for the food they're serving. Wouldn't go again. Pretty average chinese food served on a nicer dish. Not to mention dishes are also smaller than those im used to.
We were seated right away. Service was fast and attentive. Food was flavorful and rich and we really enjoyed dining here. We ordered several dishes to share.
I got confused with the pan fried dumpling, I thought I saw on the menu a pan fried soup dumpling so when the food came, I told the other server it wasn't my order. Then this Crystal my server gave me an attitude, she could have told me in a better way that it was indeed my order, but no, she gave me a bad attitude. Good thing Kui (the manager I believe) went and clarify it with me in a way better way (that's why he's a manager). Cindy the other server is also okay. Most of them are except for this Crystal.
The steamed xiao long pao is just okay. It's good enough for a xiao long pao fix.
4.2 rating? Do y’all have taste buds? Great location, nice atmosphere, efficient service but horrible food. This place is 2.5-3 stars for overall dinning experience but definitely not worth the price. You’re better off going to Manchuwok for a more satisfying meal at a cheaper price.
Got the Kung Pow Chicken, Braised Tofu, Veggie Dumplings, and Deep Fried Tofu. The sauces both the chicken and braised tofu came in were watery and bland, plus the vegetables were soggy and clearly not fresh. The appetizers were okay but were simple and would be hard to mess up. If you were going to get anything the dumplings would be your best bet, but even then you can definitely find better elsewhere. Unfortunately, the best part of the meal were the free (kinda stale) fortune cookies that came at the end.
I know the name says Asian Bistro, but don’t be fooled. It tasted like it had been cooked by someone who had never tasted Asian food before in their life.
The place looks great and would be a great stop to break away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. The decor and ambiance are inviting and the front end staff are very polite and friendly, however, the cooks and back end staff clearly have no clue what they are doing. So I would recommend checking it out as long as you don’t plan on eating there. There are some amazing Asian eateries across the GTA, unfortunately this is not one of them.
I would give a zero if possible. I ordered this from Uber Eats yesterday afternoon and was so disappointed. The portion sizes for 2/3 dishes we ordered were tiny compared to the price. All three dishes were flavourless, especially the chow mein. It was my first and last time as a customer. So disappointed.
Today I had a thought. While working out in the hot sun, I got a whiff of something I hadn't had in some time. Chinese food. With an appetite growing by the second I quickly grabbed my phone to text my significant other to perhaps pick up a quick meal to eat at home, since usually after a hot day, I'm honestly way to lazy to cook. After getting home and waiting, she arrived with the food. Now at first I glanced at it and wondered if some soccer mom had just cooked up something Asian like for her kids, or that perhaps my eyes were betraying me. So, I had some spoonfuls of what she got me and I was truthfully repulsed at what I had put into my mouth to masticate on. To me and my tongue, this was not good Chinese food, this was treason to my taste buds. My advice, cook your meals at home people, its healthier and at least you have control of what you're doing in the kitchen, not some some noob cooking leftovers.
