Liberty Dental is the best. The staff is very friendly and caring. Dr Balenko looked after me when I broke a molar. He was very gentle and answered all my questions. Jessica and Lindsay looked after me when I went in for a cleaning recently and were great.

We love this dentist! The staff all around is amazing from the receptionists to the dental hygienists to the dentists. They are amazing with my three kids and it’s always feels very friendly and at home. They are great at accommodating different schedules or the odd emergency, very attentive and listen to all your concerns.

I was in tremendous pain due to a wisdom tooth that needed to be extracted. After calling all dentistries (including my own dentist) in Peterborough and surrounding areas got me no where, I ended up calling Liberty Dental for an emergency extraction, and out of the 9 dental offices I tried, Liberty Dental was the only office that tried to help me.

They had booked me in the same day and the extraction was performed by Dr. Matt Balenko, who was exceptionally gentle, very informative, and well prepared for my last minute appointment. I can’t thank them enough, and a big thank you to Janice at the front who made sure I did not go unanswered. So much gratitude for this awesome team, I cannot thank them enough for their efforts to make this happen as soon as possible for me. Thanks so much everyone!

As a new patient, I was welcomed and treated by very professional staff.
After a few short visits I am now back on track for regular cleanings.
Very happy. Highly recommended.

Although there are many 5 star reviews regarding Liberty Dentist, I'm guessing that is because they are constantly "review farming" by sending contests through emails to their current patients with the enticement of winning prizes. The only positive I can think of, are the dental secretaries who have been there for years. They are nice, and professional.

That being said, my overall experience has not been great here. My last cleaning, the hygienist was so rough with the instruments, that my gums were sore for an entire week afterwards. My gums and teeth are pretty healthy, and I was surprised by her aggressiveness. I was charged almost $300 for a cleaning.

My children have been going there for years, and appointment times are just an estimate, like another reviewer has said. I waited 20 minutes today, and thats usually normal. My youngest has had procedures that were unnecessary, that were on top of insurance in the past. I just trusted that they had my children’s best interest.

Now that they are not on insurance, I have not had any price transparency before procedures, which was known since I have been there prior. I was charged $185 for a single child filling, and when I questioned the cost, I was treated like I couldn't afford the treatment. I just wanted to know why a single filling for a 10 year old was almost $200 (3x’s what they charge to insurance) just to be told that it's the suggested cost.

To add insult to the entire ordeal, I was told to take my receipt so that I could write off the cost on my taxes by the secretary! I guess she didn’t realize not everyone can “write things off on their taxes”. And then wondered why I wasn’t happy with her unsolicited advice. Then I was offered a "discount" from the dentist after I had paid, basically poor shaming me.

Not the point. I can afford to pay for care, however, you need to be transparent regarding your prices, because I would have to have the opportunity to get a second opinion/ or choose another dentist to do the work required, and I was not informed. Embarrassing for them. I will not return based off that non-professionalism.

*In response to the owner- it wasn’t a misunderstanding. Everything I stated happened. You did not inform me of the cost of the procedure prior to doing the work which I had requested before completing ANY work. Which violates the law of informed consent by RCDSO which was explicitly mentioned in my review. It was the way you handled the situation, and insulted me. I even saw the secretary inform another patient how her insurance wasn’t covering the normal procedures she usually receives in a year while I was waiting in the waiting area. But I don’t get that courtesy? You could not inform me of the cost beforehand? Wow- guess your patients not on insurance only get slapped with a bill afterwards not knowing what CDA “suggested costs” are, which are not publicly listed. You proceeded even though you knew that you did not have my informed consent. Seems like you didn’t give me that choice. You can contact me if you want to discuss further.

Now do I win the electric toothbrush, or do you just pick the review you like?

It was a last minute appointment that Catherine got me in for with very short notice as she knew I was in so much pain. Everyone was great and I’m in so much less pain the day after so I can’t say thank you enough and highly recommend Liberty Dental!

Recently switched to Liberty Dental from my prior dentist and couldn’t be happier, contacted Dr Balenko and he was very personable and talked me through everything and set me up with a consultation. Him and his amazing team were very friendly and welcoming on my first visit and l felt very comfortable the entire time I was at his office. Definitely recommend!

I made a great choice when I chose LibertyDental after moving to Newcastle. What I thought was going to be difficult after using the same dental office for years was comforting and easy. All the staff make me feel like I’d been a patient for years (which I have been now). I see that Liberty Dental has very nice and high reviews however, going there as a young adult has been an extremely bad experience. Not only have I had water from their water (or rinse) instruments all over my face, and neck (no I was not moving around) ; I have also been questioned on personal matters that have nothing to do with the work they provide. I have been treated rudely by assistants and reception for the most part. I have waited an hour AFTER I was supposed to have my appointment on multiple occasions also. It is sad to see because it is a very nice dentist office and some of the staff are very kind and make you feel comfortable. But here, the bad out weighs the good unfortunately.

I love this office! The frontline staff are professional and courteous, and my doctor, his assistant and the dental hygienist were fantastic! They made me feel comfortable, and safe. My dental concerns were resolved quickly. I spent very little time in their chair. I can appreciate that:). All around, I am pleased and so happy to have been referred to Liberty Dental Centre.

Excellent front office staff, excellent facility that is very welcoming. Dr. Vermeulen has maintained my dental health for over 30 years. Other oral health care providers working from this office provide the same high level of service, care and respect for patients.

Dr. Balenko restored my teeth after a failed composite bonding at a different dental practice I wont name, and I couldn’t be any happier. My smile is back and stronger than ever.

Just had a great first visit with the team at Liberty dental Centre! They are friendly and efficient, and there was a genuine welcoming atmosphere to the office. The hygienist who worked with me easily accommodated to my specific needs and made sure I was comfortable while she worked. Coming here was a great decision!

Just want to say that I saw Hailey, the hygienist, for the first time today. She made sure I was comfortable during the entire visit and explained what she was doing and gave me some great tips for looking after my teeth and gums. She asked how long our family has been coming to Liberty Dental and I realized it's been over 30 years-since we first came to Bowmanville. The staff has always been great and we appreciate the care we've received over the years!
