Note that this review is based off 3 different visits.

Long & McQuade sits in a small plaza that still provides ample parking given the lower traffic of the area. The store is mid-sized and has several sections. A highlight is the glass enclosed guitar room that houses their more expensive models and is a treat to see. Their selections are quite large and provide a good range between affordable and upscale budgets. There doesn't seem to be any acoustic pianos on site. Instead they have a decent spread of digital pianos and keyboards.

Staff are generally pleasant and willing to offer advice, even for beginners. Most, if not all of them, are musicians themselves and are happy to demonstrate the equipment first hand. They have been approachable and taken their own initiative to reach out on 2 occasions. Unfortunately, on the 3rd one, it took about 15-20mins to find someone available to help with questions, which was frankly frustrating because the store was not packed and it may be that I came at a time that they decided to focus on equipment maintenance. I wished that they had communicated that to me instead of my waiting on 2-3 different staff and feeling ignored.

While they price match, they would only do so for brick-and-mortar stores and nothing online. So Amazon is definitely out of the question.

Long & McQuade also has an online presence and the web store is not bad, although navigation could be improved.

Excellent experience here. Went in to take a look at a Strat i'd been considering and get an amp looked at to be fixed; walked out with the Strat and a rental amp + business card for someone who can fix my old amp.

The sales rep, Geoff, was an amazing help with everything. Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable guy, even went through the trouble of restringing the guitar based on my playing preferences WHILE handling other customers. Taught me a whole bunch of new info regarding keeping my Strat playing perfectly depending on how i'm tuning it so it will be sounding beautiful for the foreseeable future.

Can't recommend this place enough for Guitar-related needs!

Helpful staff.

The large open space creates a lot of noise pollution when trying to hear an instrument.

Guitar action and tuning are NOT maintained - even on high-end guitars. Some guitars have rusty strings. Very difficult to get a good impression on an electric guitar there. Needs improvement.

You can tell the people who run this store truly love music and instruments. Top notch expertise and help. So many instruments and gadgets to choose from. And you can get lessons here too reasonably priced. Shout out Brando who helped us. He was not only extremely knowledgeable and helpful about guitars but also very nice to deal with!

Love this store in London North
My father first introduced me to this store (Tommy Hunter)
Yes the TV gentleman years ago. Three guitars later still love popping in.
My go to guy is Michael Schiffman.
His knowledge as well with all the patience in the world always makes a stop there a learning experience.
Always willing to help out on short notice if I need something adjusted with my guitars.
Cheers Greg Hunter

Went in today to start shopping for a new guitar. Spent twenty minutes walking around looking and feeling like a dork. Nobody spoke to me at all. They were busy speaking to one another. Not going back.

**Edit**

Since my visit & posting of the one star review Matt from Long & McQuade north reached out to me to clear some things up.

This seems to have been a single problem that I was unfortunate to encounter due to some unpredictable events.

My visit to the store was amazing & I couldn’t be happier with my guitar & the help from the staff. Will be back for sure.

Today I bought my first guitar. Mike Schiffman couldn’t have been more help, he helped me pick an amazing guitar & even demoed it for me. If I was rating my experience based on Mike, it would be 5/5 stars.

Unfortunately Mike could only do so much. We seemed to be just about finished with the smooth transaction until Mike needed my credit to be approved by another staff member…. That wasn’t happening any time soon. They were understaffed. Greg can’t 46 & Dan was held up (understandably) Mike & Greg did everything thing he could to keep us entertained & laughing but our hunger grew & our patience shortened. Mike even called 3 other stores!

At the end of the day I got my guitar, but only thanks to Mike. Something needs to be done about the short staffing problem. It’s not even Christmas! It’s a promotional month none the less.

I decided to try and learn an instrument over a year ago as an adult beginner which can be super intimidating. Everyone was super helpful and it look less than an hour to have my instrument rented and to get signed up for individual classes. My instructor is Cameron- BIG FAN.he is amazing at what he does and a great teacher! Any time I have an issue with my instrument the staff is super helpful and makes sure the issue is dealt with right away.
