Mabel's Fables knocks it out of the park when it comes to an amazing in-store book selection for all ages, a curated monthly book subscription (pick up or mailed) and unparalleled customer service. I love the store as much as my son and I leverage him to go there as often as I can. If you want your children to fall in love with reading, Mabel's will win them over in a heart beat.

We had heard this place was adorable and worth the visit, but it surprised even us! The selection and atmosphere were great, and the proprietor, Mabel, was just the cutest cat! The reading room on the second floor alone was also worth the visit. This is a perfect example of what I imagine a book store to be.

I tried to be the hero and take my godson to the bookstore to get a book as a treat. I told him to pick just one, and he did. I paid for it and we were about to go when he saw a different book he wanted, but I reminded him that he already picked one. He. Melted. Down. Full temper tantrum. I addressed the issue, feeling every scream in my bones and starting to feel bad for the others in the store when a staffer came up to us - embarrassment high, she politely pointed out that what I was saying was true (please don’t push or touch the books that aren’t ours) & she noted that meltdowns were happening more frequently perhaps because lockdown due to covid took away prime shopping excursions for littles to learn from, and picking one thing is always hard. I thanked her for her patience and she thanks me for mine. I felt so supported and no need to be embarrassed. Thank you to the staff who took it all in stride and helped us learn our lesson of the day.

The BEST children's bookstore in Toronto! Excellent selection, friendly staff, free parking and they also wrap presents which is very helpful:) Eleanor the owner is amazing and puts so much heart and care into curating the store and helping customers find meaningful books to enrich their lives!

A couple of years ago, specifically the Christmas before Covid, I bought a gift card for my nephew. Prior to buying his gift card, I had never been at the store before. I looked it up online and commuted into mid-town Toronto from an entirely different city just to see the store and to buy my bookworm-nephew a gift card from what seemed to be a very special place. Upon touring the store, I became absolutely enchanted with the locale. Neither he nor my sister had been there before either, not until they went to redeem his gift card in February. Lo and behold, when they went to use his gift card, when it was scanned, it showed up as having already been used, with a balance of zero. It was glaringly evident that there must have been an error upon purchase, from the end of the cashier, but apparently there was nothing the store could do at the point in time, other than to say, “Sorry, it’s been used, ” and to send my sister and nephew away. Shortly thereafter, Covid hit and my sister forgot to tell me about the situation until closer to the next Christmas, when I asked if they had made use of the gift card from the year prior. At that point, I contacted the store and they told me I would need to present the original receipt and gift card in order to rectify the situation. We no longer had those items on hand. I tried very hard to be patient as they told me they might be able to retrieve an electronic record of my payment, but I had to continually call, email, and call back just to be told that they would look into it later. I really feel that given the fact that it was their employee who sold me a faulty gift card, and that NOTHING was offered to my sister other than a “Sorry, your gift card has already been used, ” which was impossible, that more of an effort should have been made to rectify the situation. The locale is absolutely enchanting, but unfortunately, my vision of the store has been completely tainted and I cannot help but feel the decor and ambience is now just superficial to me. My money was essentially taken, my nephew and his parents wasted a trip there just so that he could be flaunted with a gift that wasn’t available to him, and I have wasted a lot of time trying to figure this out. On top of that, my experience as a customer has been ignored time and time again. I generally try to avoid big box stores and try to support small, independent businesses, but I much prefer to shop at Indigo Chapters than at Mable’s Fables given what happened. The only benefit of the doubt I can give is that maybe merchants don’t always realise just how much bad customer service, and essentially the taking-of-a-customer’s-money without delivering the product (albeit relatively small-scale and unintentional), can affect people. Even though they really should.

Best little bookstore in town! Love this place. Mabel is so sweet. And the people working there are so knowledgeable about all the books, and always recommend the best books for kids. Super kind and friendly staff. The place is so cozy. I didn't know what kind of books to get my son, who's in Grade 1 but reads at a grade 4-5 level. Their recommendations were spot on, and my son can't get enough of the books they recommend. Please support this little bookstore, and grab the best books with the best service there.

This place is amazing. Magical. I even consider it one of the city's best tourist destinations - if you are even the slightest book lover, Mabel's Fable's may be the highlight of your trip to Toronto.

Mable's Fables is a treasure of Davisville Village! Eleanor and her staff have an authoritative knowledgable of children's books and make curated, insightful suggestions for children's reading. They also have a broad selection of Usborne sticker, maze and puzzle books which are great for traveling with children, and a small adult section.

This little jem of a store is a must if you have children, the staff were attentive, but not pushy, an all around great experience.

Today we visited Mable’s Fables for the second time - not sure if it has to do with covid protocols or something else but it would’ve been nice to just be able to browse and not be followed the entire time we were in the store. I told them what I was looking for and it was just nonstop “here look at this…” There was one other patron who wasn’t being followed around so maybe they were just eager to help. We did purchase some great books but I’m not sure I’d visit Mables Fables again.

Mable's Fables is a wonderful shop with incredible staff! They helped me pick out books for my niece that she (and her parents) absolutely loved. The books were beautifully gift wrapped and shipped promptly. I will recommend it to anyone!

One of the most charming and iconic bookstores in Toronto, and for good reason! The staff here are incredible, giving individually tailored book recommendations for each and every person. Despite the massive overflow of Christmas orders, they managed to keep up as much as possible, and provided stellar service even so. The book subscription program is particularly inspired: it's similar to other "mystery box" services, but with the caveat that this one is tailored to each individual person, making it one of the best Christmas presents I've been able to give! If I could rate something higher than 5 stars, Mabel's would be it.

Since I moved to the neighbourhood, this is one of my favourite bookstores.   Specialized in children's literature, wonderful!   

Located in a neighbourhood where there are many families.   Their Storytelling programs are very special, for example, on Saturdays Daddy and Me is very nice!  

The owner Eleanor she is very charming, in fact,   each of its workers are people committed to the great art of the book.   Even Mabel the cat knows how to guide us to find that book that we want to give our children.   It is very sad, that probably, they must close due to the high prices in rents in Toronto.very sad. I hope no, we really need it!

This is a fantastic local children's book store. Not only does it remind you of a great small town shop but the service and knowledgable staff you won't find anywhere else. They have a great selection of books categorized by age group and will gladly order any book they don't have. I shop here often.

This charming book store has a wonderful selection of children and teen books. The staff are very helpful. They have recommended some wonderful books that have been big hits with my kids.

Geographically good to neighbors but hard to find parking lots for other customers and the store as small as like my room and only few books for junior youngsters.

Mabel's Fables is a cozy children's and teen bookstore with friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff, resident cat Mabel, and so many great books and bookish things! They are one of my favourite bookstores.

A wonderful little bookshop! A fun place to browse with lots of selection. Staff are knowledgeable and very helpful. Books are organized into age groups, and some also by subject and season. Other neat finds too like games, puzzles, little toys. Great selection for gift giving. There is some value to big box stores like Chapters, but you really can't replicate the cozy environment and overall experience of a cozy little independent book shop!
