Madoi Restaurant

Food was good, but very dated atmosphere and seemed to be one waitress for the whole restaurant, which wasn't busy. She was good and kept up. I will go back.

Amazing selection of Japanese dishes to choose from.
Delicious flavours and beautiful food presentation.
We all enjoyed our selections- fresh and tasty. I’d highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed.

I will not return. The new ownership has really been a let down. Our greeting was annoyed at best, we never got water refills, they didn't take our empty plates and we ran out of room on the table. The ice cream bar had used candy wrappers on the "clean" bowls for guests, and their scoop is in an illegal holder (it can't be held in still water, and it is). It looks like they had water damage? There is what looks like mouldy walls they are recovering. Most of the food was edible, but for example the edamame was greatly undercooked, they were almost rock solid. Some of the sashimi was still frozen. The rice was too chewy and it really affected all the Maki and handrolls. The steam buns were shoved into the container and all got stuck together and were a disaster when separated. The torched sushi was cold and the wrong texture, like they pre torched them and then kept them in the fridge for later. Then they put a bunch of a seasoning, likely pepper, on them and that was all you could taste. They were also out of my favourite sushi food that was still on their menu, Enokii Mushroom Beef Wraps.
The only good thing I have to say is that the Maneki Neko-insipired cat, and food pun posters are charming.

Great place to eat sushi! Menu has good variety and quality is great. The interior of the restaurant is aesthetic and clean. Staff were very friendly and they also have student discounts!

Good sushi and 1 of the better places in Peterborough. Little on the pricey side ($80 for 2 people at dinner) although good selection of sushi. Can be loud during college season.

Edit: I've been recently and with the price hike I can no longer recommend this place, when I went they were out of tuna but still were charging full price as if half the menu was still available. The seaweed salad came out semi frost bitten and the cuts/sizes were inconsistent.

Restaurants are expensive these days but this is all you can eat and nearly everything we ordered was very good! Cheese wontons and tempura shrimp are noteworthy.crab cake was SOOO good. Just try it and see

No no no! You can’t play Ed Sheeran all day and night. The food is good and the service is great, but I was here for 2 hours and all they played was Ed Sheeran and now I feel angry and mad. This is not Ed Sheeran 24/7 live in concert. This is not Ed Sheeran feat. Sushi rolls. Who is such a big fan of sushi and Sheeran and decides to create a world where these two passions collide? Weirdos

I liked it here! I went there on a Sunday and paid $28.99 (minus tax) for lunch. The portions are worth the price (that’s if you order a lot of food and you can finish).

Food preparation time was quick. The food was tasty; I ordered a variety. I loved that a waitress came to constantly check on me.

However, another waitress came, dropped my food and just walked away like that (she didn’t seem welcoming; it would be nice to smile at least). Don’t just rush the drop the food and leave. And please ask before you take an empty plate from the table, rather than just taking it. Also, the entrance was quite appalling because of some permanent stains there.

Overall, I think the place is good and I will come again. The best time to go is on Sunday afternoon because it is cheaper. Although, it may be crowded and hot. The dinner menu and weekday prices are more expensive.

We parked in the back parking lot. Walking past the overflowing fly infested dumpster on our way to the entrance was our first clue what to expect. Food not fresh. Over dressed, seasoned and sauced in an attempt to hide that fact. Rubbery warm salmon, tiny pieces of meat, finished with gritty ice cream. $189 for 4 people later, we were still hungry but no appetite to try anything else on the all u can eat menu. Avoid.

I was created and seated right away but that's where it ended. This was my fave place to have lunch in Peterborough but it has changed over the years, the rice in the sushi was hard and shrimp was chewy and flavorless. Between orders the space of time was very long and I didn't get everything I ordered. I left disappointed and knowing I won't be going back.

Reasonable price, variety of food selections. The servers were nice and helpful. They also offer discount for students!

I made reservation for 8ppl and we love it. They have variety options which is perfect for us cause we have different appetizers (2 of us are vegetarian). We definitely will come back.

Very good all you can eat sushi. Price seemed high at first but the food is definitely worth it. This is the best sushi that I have found in Peterborough. The food come quite quick unlike other all you can eat places so I recommend doing several small orders rather than big ones! Will definitely be going back here.

Great wait staff. Clean and renovated, huge menu, great bbq, pasta options and obviously amazing sushi. Get a pot of tea; thank me later. Parking on George st is 'meh' but walking two blocks if you have to is worth it. $25 all you can eat lunch is a steal for such great food. Took the niece and nephew, waitress came back with child friendly chopsticks and Disney plates, very nice touch.

I live in Buffalo NY, my fiancé lives in Peterborough. I’m there almost every weekend, and almost every weekend we go to Madoi. Our food is always perfect and service is always both fast and accurate. We love it here.

Unfortunately I can't eat fish or seafood but they do have a good selection for those of us who can't. The veggies and alternatives are crisp and flavorful. Food is delivered promptly. Nicely decorated however a little more attention to floor mopping needed.

Been here 2 or 3 times, staff is nice, food is great, especially the general tso and the beef and broccoli, obviously the sushi is good too, but those two previous items were surprisingly good.

Madoi is where I tried sushi for the first time when I came to Canada. It is still my fav place for sushi. This place holds alot of amazing memories for me and my friends. Madoi is just an *experience*

This place is awsome. One of our favorite place to get sushi in Peterborough. Great food and great servers. Tempura is perfectly crispy with a good crunch

I love the food. So many options to choose with the AYCE. Staffs are amazing, helpful. Love it.

Although not exactly authentic, their all-you-can-eat dinner option was delicious and reasonably priced. Would be a pleasure to come again!

This is in regards to a take out order. Maki rolls were a good size. However ginger, wasabi and soy sauce only came in little individual packages.

Tempura shrimp was a huge disappointment. I'm pretty sure it was pre made and just toasted, otherwise it would have been more crispy and less dry.

Food was the best fast time for food to come, many desserts to choose from and very reasonably priced. Wait staff and everyone is helpful and friendly. My son and I try to go at least once a month.

Amazing food, busy atmosphere. The tablets to order food were a nice touch.
Huge downside-heat was broken and according to staff the owner of the building was too cheap to fix it. Staff had mini heaters everywhere but the place was absolutely freezing

I don't understand why this place is rated so high in Peterborough. The food is limited in options and the quality and taste is poor as well. The service was good though and tables were clean but thats it.

Delicious sushi and wok fare. Reasonable prices and a huge assortment of options. I'm not that into sushi and I loved it! Servers were cordial, prompt and super helpful.

Delicious all you can eat dinner. Lots of variety. Fresh salmon and sashimi. I'm from out of town and probably one of my favourite all you can eat sushi spots.

I so love the food especially the short ribs and maki/rolls fast service and the staff are very accommodating.

Food was great, service was good but I didn't like customers were getting their own icecream. Some guys did not have mask will serving themself. I will definitely come back but won't be having icecream.

Most of the food here is enjoyable. It's great that they have tablets to order from so you can see the food before your order. A few things I ordered never showed up. Their chicken and sauces are amazing. The pork that I ordered and received tasted rancid. No desert options with lunch. Will stick to Hockey Sushi.

Came here on a whim with my husband. My cousin was coincidentally at the door meeting friends and recommended the food. We ordered the all you can eat lunch. He is allergic to fish so we ordered vegetarian, chicken and shrimp dishes. Everything was amazing and were very satisfied. We ate so much we will be rolling back to the van. We plan on returning. Highly recommend this place.

Madoi was a lot better this time compared to last time when I was there about a year ago in terms of service. We were there around 4-5 pm on a Sunday so it didn't appear busy. The waitresses were friendly and helpful.

Excellent food and love the atmosphere, price is high, but you pay for quality and excellent service. Food comes to table quickly. Excellent experience both times i've been. Will be back for sure

Madoi is my favorite sushi restaurant in Peterborough. It's all you can eat so I can stuff my face but it manages to keep similar quality to other sushi places with menus. If you're looking for something that is quality for what you pay then Madoi is the place. Only negative thing I have to say is you order on iPads and sometimes they don't work, but besides that it's very nice. 4/5 stars.

A great concept! All you can eat high end Asian food, but not from a steam tray. There is a tablet on the table and you order individual servings of whatever you want, whenever you want, and magically someone brings it it to your table.

Sushi, tempura, wok, grilled, dumplings, teriyaki, and more. Everyone gets what they want, and nothing they don't want.

Our first AYCE Sushi since moving to Ptbo and I'm happy to say it was excellent! Great staff and very tasty!

For $30 totally worth it! I ordered a pork chop (1 piece) from "one fine food" cost $29! This one is a heaven for students in Trent!

This restaurant is pretty mediocre. Their sushi is alright at best, and their assortment of Korean, Japanese and Chinese staples leave you wishing the taste was better.

Peterborough has a decent amount of sushi places, but a lot of them aren't that great. This place is an exception to that rule and I would argue is the best all you can eat sushi in town.

There are by the plate (or boat) options in town which are on the same playing field, but if you're looking to get stuffed on all you can eat sushi, then Madoi is where you want to go.

My main gripe with Madoi is the rolls. They have a lot of spicy crunchy rolls, but no equivalents that aren't spicy.

Madoi. What's there to say about Madoi, really? Personally, I've never once had a bad experience here - the food has always been wonderful, presented beautifully, and at more than a fair price. I've gone with friends, family, and my fiancee on numerous occasions and always left happy and full.

They specialize in Asian cuisine, and have an extensive sushi menu. For around $25/person, you receive an all-you-can-eat buffet but with a truly respectable theme and feel.

I suppose if I were to complain about anything at all, it'd be that due to the downtown parking can be problematic - which can definitely turn some people away. The back lot contains a handful of spaces or so, and roadside parking in Peterborough's downtown is a gamble at best while a risk at worst; something I can hardly fault the restaurant for.

Good enough sushi. The ordering software was kinda buggy and the A/C was out, but other than that, good service and food.

I love going here! The staff are friendly, the all you can eat pricing is fair (keep in mind it's different on different days of the week), and the doordash pricing is excellent! My only complaint is sometimes my food isn't quite as cold as I would like.

So glad that my s.o. And I were driving through downtown Ptbo yesterday, and discovered that Madoi has a patio and so we were finally able to have AYCE sushi for the first time since the pandemic. It was fantastic! Thanks Madoi! And for people trying to figure out how much it costs, we paid around $65 w/out tip for the 2 of us for a Sunday dinner all-you-can-eat.

I have been going here for about 4 years now. I have never had a bad experience. I absolutely love it, the food is always 10/10. I cant wait to be able to dine in again.

Great service. Very good value for the party platter. Plus you get 10% off for cash takeout. We were happy to be able to go out for Sushi.

Dissapointed in the increase in price despite no apparent increase in quality, decrease in the student discount, and removal of internet.

It seems as though their business model continuing into the future is to cut as many costs as possible, in order to extract as much profit as possible. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the customer, and I find that I just don't have the same desire to frequent madoi or Tora as I used to.

I would rather visit any other restaurant in Peterborough that isn't so clearly capital driven at the expense of good faith

Little pricey but you pay good for the food. First time we went it wasnt to great but we tried again and werent disappointed. The new renovations look great as well.
Only big thing was in the summer it was HOT in there.

I had a great time with tempura and shrimp flower. It was very fast to serve my orders. I was very satisfied with the food and their services.

After the renovations, I went back to Madoi to give it a try again (I was a regular before). The price hike and the limited lunch menu (compared to before) has made me decide to not return again. I will be heading over to Aji Sai to give that a try.

Too bad Madoi. I know you are going through a transition, but don't open up again with half the original menu as your offering. Iron out the issues before you start serving the masses.

1. Almost everything is fried here. If not fried - it's greasy. My stomach shut down for the day after eating here.
2. You can smell the toilets from where are you seated.
3. You can also smell the chemicals they use to clean the tables. Very strong odour!
=Not eating here anymore. It's fun ordering with a tablet, and it's all you can eat. But, all I could smell was not food. Fried food that is.

Our first experience at Spicy Affairs was excellent. It is small place so a very intimate setting. The food was filled with flavour but you have to pick the correct spice level. They even have an option for "Canadian Spicy" which turns out to be medium. We ordered the Roganjosh Chicken and a Lamb curry plus a stuffed chicken naan bread. Everything was delicious.

Madoi is usually my go-to sushi place in Peterborough, but after my incredibly disappointing experience tonight, I don't think I'll ever be going back.

I made reservations for a large sized group almost three weeks ago. Knowing that the group was so large and that it was the night before Thanksgiving, I wanted to make sure everything would be okay. When I called to make my reservation, I was told it wouldn't be a problem.

I followed up with them about a week before the reservation to confirm final numbers.

I called in again this afternoon, just to make sure they were actually going to be open today (as a few things were closed for the holiday). They said they were, but they might close early for Thanksgiving. At this point I began to worry as I made reservations for 7: 30 pm and their posted hours were until 9: 30 pm. They assured me that my reservation was still okay, and my group was okay to stay even if they began to close the rest of the restaurant.

When we get there and sit down for a bit we are told it was 'last call' when most of us hadn't even received our food yet. We had to ask a few times where most of our orders were, as there were a lot of dishes that were missing. I had to go home and eat afterwards as I wasn't able to order everything I would have wanted to.

It felt incredibly disorganized and it felt like we were being rushed out. If they intended to close the restaurant early for the holiday, they could have called me. They had my name and phone number when I made reservations weeks prior. They even could have told me when I called this afternoon, and I could have made the reservation for a bit earlier in the evening.

The only redeeming factor about tonight, is that they did not charge for one of my friends who did not eat very much. That's why this review is two stars instead of one.

I'm so embarrassed and upset by the service we received. Many of the guests in the group had never been to Madoi, and I felt it was necessary to apologize to everyone. Especially because it's pretty expensive. I doubt they will be returning after our experience tonight. I won't be.

I have to say their sushi and sashimi exceeded my expectations. We were here for dinner on a Saturday night, the place was packed. Their maki and rolls was just so so, but the torched salmon sushi and salmon sashimi hit the spot for me.

I originally gave madoi 5 stars as I've been coming for years and always loved it. This used to be my favorite place to eat I knew many of the workers and went once a week for at least the last 2 years. But since the renovations last month a lot of chefs have changed, the food has changed, staff have left from mistreatment, and 4 out of 7 items I have always eaten have been removed, or moved to the dinner menu, which is now 26.99$ after tax and tip nearly 40.00$ per person! The lunch menu is up in price too and many things have been removed. The 3 items left I would regularly eat also are made completely different even the sweet and sour chicken tastes like its made with heinz ketchup. I am going to have to move on from eating here.

Madoi has settled into a new layout for their seating, prioritizing a more private booth experience than previously.
The menu covers most of the standard fare for a sushi restaurant and some more esoteric non fish options frenchfry and onion ripping rolls as example.
Service is prompt and responsive, with staff available to address any concerns regarding the menu or tablet ordering system.

Very low tier sushi. They have renovated, I hope they renovated the food too. There are much better places not very far away.

Maki and Sushi here are awesome!
I also enjoyed their pan fried dishes. They served many kinds of food from different countries including Vietnam, which is my country!
Good price for students also!

Is the glass half empty or half full?
That’s always been a question that people haven’t been able to answer, however, if you go for lunch or dinner at Madoi Sushi Restaurant your glass is half empty. Literally, half empty. I had the pleasure of going out for dinner with my boyfriend and his family to Madoi sushi for dinner, I ordered a Root Beer to drink, not only was it flat but my cup was literally half empty. I don’t know about you but half a cup of Root Beer isn’t quite enough to go with my sushi dinner. After my very small glass of soda we began to wonder where our appetizers were, they came an hour after we had eaten our sushi. Dinner at Madoi Sushi Restaurant was a very expensive, unenjoyable experience, I’m just glad I wasn’t paying. Oh and did I mention I fell on the very slippery floors? Because I did, and it was embarrassing, however, slightly less embarrassing due to the fact there was no “wet floor” sign.

Good food and great services, a different concept for their buffet which is unique. But a bit pricey.

I like the privacy the booths offer that hide my inept sushi eating ability and allow me to shine im my true talent as finger food artist

This place has good food (very fresh, clean-tasting, and well seasoned), and the waitress was very polite, helping with everything and offering a friendly greeting.
However, 3 things to keep in mind here:
-The food takes EXTREMELY long to come (Ipad ordering). I had to wait about 35 minutes for 2 small items (surf clam and mackerel), and I was running late by the time I received my order
-They can and do get the orders incorrect. I ordered 2 pieces of mackerel, twice. Both times, only 1 came.
-VERY high pricing; 25 dollars per person for all you can eat lunch.
Would not recommend overall, but good food and waitress

The worst experience ever. My husband ordered 1 fried shrimp and they said no he ordered 4 of them. So we hear them at the next table saying the didn't order that many and the person who works there said of there was a computer glitch. I never got any of my food. This was our anniversary and it turned out crappy. Never going back

The all you can eat lunch buffet is not worth it compared to Hockey Sushi or AJ. There’s a significant price difference on weekends; Madoi lunch is $21.99 compared to hockey is only $16.99. You would expect that Madoi would be better with service and food quality for the amount you are paying. Likewise, hockey sushi is way better for money wise, quality of food, and service.

Absolutely 5 star. Amazing new renovations and great food. A few things fell off the menu that we will miss. But over all great.

Made it to the newly renovated Madoi and was really impressed with the quality (and quantity.though it is all you can eat, LOL) of food. First of all, the atmosphere is much improved after the reno's, much easier to have a more private meal with your family (my kids are 4 and 6, so it's not to be a bit segregated). A few tweaks to the menu but still had some great classic non-sushi dishes; the Udon for example is fantastic. As are the Galbi (beef short ribs). I'm not super adventurous when it comes to sushi, but I was a total glutton when it came to some of the staples in Sashimi (salmon, white tuna) and sushi, including some really nice torched options. The Maki roles were good too and I don't recall what the price of the kids meals were, but my kids at a lot of great food - starting with Udon (they are half-Korean and love soup), and right through to the Galbi and stir-fried veggies. It's obvious they take pride in the quality of food here. Service on this night was really good - took us a bit to get the hang of the online ordering thing, but waitress was super attentive to the important things, like drinks for the kids and Sapporo's for dad! A+ experience for us on this night!

I visited twice after the renovation. The quality and atmosphere were good, the staffs were very friendly and ready to help. I really enjoyed the food here, especially salmon sushi!

I’ve always loved Madoi and I went back after their renovations and WOW. The restaurant is so beautiful. Comfy and spacious booths. And the food? Absolutely fantastic! So happy Madoi is back up and running! Definitely the best sushi spot in Peterborough.
