Main West Animal Hospital

We are from Heartland Niagara Animal Hospital but have recently visited Main West as one of my dog needed surgery and Main West had the specialize surgeon. The staff have been really nice, polite, respectful. They take the time to reassure you and explain all the difference steps. No hidding fees or test are done without the owner consent. The clinic is nice and clean! Main West took us in and took great care of our Dakota and post op recovery is going very good.

Always so flexible, compassionate and understanding. I’ve taken many of my pets to them, most recently to say goodbye to my senior dog. I cannot express how truly thankful I am for the staff at the clinic. They made the goodbye easier, knowing she was in good hands. I actually was second guessing my decision, and the vet came to discus with me and assured me based on what he saw, we were making the best choice for her and hearing that lifted a huge weight.

We just had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Bhan for a pre-op appointment. He was so kind, professional, and took the time to explain all of the options for our dog. Most impressive of all, he encouraged us to discuss surgery with another vet clinic because the wait time for his own services was longer and he thought our dog needed the proper care as soon as possible. His patience and honesty showed us that he truly cares about the animals that he is entrusted with. He has certainly earned our trust and we will definitely come to him again.

This is possibly the most overpriced vet I have ever been to. Plenty of vets offer the same or better service for a fraction of the price. If you like to throw money away then go ahead. If you’d rather use that money towards other things for your pet other than vet visits go elsewhere. For example an x-ray I had done here cost me 490$, I had the same xray done on the same dog about 20 min from here for 140$. I’m all for making sure my dog has the best care available but I’m not interested in being robbed. Never again.

My dog has cataracts and according to the specialist has had them for a long time. I was bringing my dog here from 2016 to 2020 and never once was told that he had cataracts. This place is ridiculously overpriced for subpar services. If you love you animal go elsewhere.

I can't give zero stars or I would!
I took my dog here for 6 years. Paid a premum plan each year. This year, after my pets first yearly appointment may 6, I contacted the clinic more than 5 times for a call back from my vet. Nothing! They refused to put me in touch with my dogs vet. I was being charged every month over $80. I asked for a stop payment and refund for past payments as no one was giving me any answers. They were completely ignoring me. They refunded me. They did not try to retain me as a loyal customer. Just "see ya! "

Excellent, friendly service. The staff are great with my best friend, they take their time, address any and all concerns I have. Dr. Joseph is phenomenal with my excitable, overactive 90lb goofy boxer.who believes he truly is a lap dog. We are very content with our visits to Main West!

The vet and assisting staff were very friendly with us and our cats. The vet was careful and considerate when assessing Gomez, our first cat, and was thorough in the examination. She provided helpful advice for helping him with weight loss even though we originally had an appointment for his eyes (which are okay). She also sent home a survey to help us detect arthritis if it was present. Unfortunately the survey was hard to answer since we haven't had Gomez for long and couldn't tell "change" in behaviours. For our second cat Artie, she was just as caring, and Artie is more of a timid cat. He often runs away from strangers. Also, it was both of their first times at the vet but they both seemed calm and relaxed. Artie was all good, and overall we felt much better about our cats after our visit. Thanks for all your help!

My cat was having some health issues. They were able to fit him in with an appointment in 2 days. Follow up with the blood panel results were quick. Can't say it was cheap at $700 but it was efficient.

Unfortunately we took our dog to Main West. When he wasn't getting any better with their treatment plan (lack there of) We took him elsewhere for a second opinion. Where he was tested, diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease. Unfortunately the disease had caused to much damage and our beautiful boy is no longer with us.

This vet service is very professional and extremely fast in providing there professional work

Staff are very kind & accommodating. Was able to get my new puppy in for his vaccines quickly and they educated me on the importance of other treatments as well. They've also taken good care of our kitties in the past

The staff at Main West are always super friendly, accommodating and compassionate towards any and all of the situations they come across. Over the past decade myself and my family have had nothing but positive experiences at Main West and I look forward to many more years of having happy dog (s) because of the treatment provided by Main West!

All the staff and Doctors are so wonderful.they took the time to explain everything so I understood, they took such wonderful care of my Cat. I definitely think I will be going back there for my kitties.

West Main has been my mom's vet.hospital for more than 20 years. They care, they follow up and the Dr's.take the time to answer all your questions. All the staff is great!

Only in it for the money does not care for the well being of the animals. $800 later with no answers. Prescribed special food and antibiotics without diagnoses. Moved to another vet immediately.

The staff are very nice. However, if you have rabbits I would highly suggest you either know what veterinarian you will be seeing (as not all of them may be as well versed in rabbit care and diagnosis) OR my stronger suggestion is to go to Martindale Animal Clinic in St. Catharines as they have a vet on staff who is a as close to a rabbit specialist as you will see without travelling to the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph. I am a bit disappointed in myself that I did not research better. Again, nice staff but being being nice does not mean you are receiving accurate care and/or diagnosis. I will likely not be returning to this vet clinic for rabbit care.

They are so compassionate and understanding. They took my Dog within an hour of me calling them, it was urgent and my regular vet couldn't squeeze her in. Love them!

I gave one star, this is why. Covids made the staff and doctors nutty. We are being punished and not allowed in with our dogs because we are not vaccinated. We have had covid and so have our two dogs. Last year we aloud the staff to come out to our car to get our dogs. Something happened to our ten year old pug when he was given his shot. He must have yelped because he had a hard time walking for about eight months and you couldn't touch the spot where he got his shot. And now we are not allowed in because we're not vaccinated. Shame on you!

It was too late to save our precious Gizmo but we must thank you for your efforts. Christmas day he was fine, 2 days later he was gone. Never had a better friend.

Main West was amazing when I took my bunny Maple to them to be spayed.

I loved this place as soon as i walked in. However, even from prior conversations with staff, i could tell that they were very patient and well organized.

They genuinely do care about the pets in their care. I even received very useful care tips! As well as follow up calls to check on my bunny's progress.

I would 100% reccomend their services.

I was concerned about my girls given this was my first time at Main West and with the Covid protocols in place it being drop off only. Dr. Erin called me after their check up and spoke to me in great detail which made me feel more at ease about the whole process and their health. Thank you to the team at Main West Animal Hospital.

I would not recommend this animal hospital for large parrots. Although the nails were done satisfactorily, my bird's wings were NOT! The feathers on one wing have been cut to an appropriate length and shape. The feathers on the other wing are too short (almost 2 inches shorter) and look like they were hacked off, which can lead to injury for the bird. I am disappointed that my bird was sent out of their office with uneven wing feathers and will not take him back. We are sad to see such a beautiful bird come out of a grooming appointment looking like this. The cost was excessive as well.

Only been here with my cat a few times but they were wonderful! Took good care of my fur baby and they are very friendly

The team was incredibly professional and caring. We appreciated all the time taken by the staff to ensure our comfort and understanding as well as Katie's comfort. Right from the phone in, the receptionist, vet tech's and Dr Erin were informative, patient and compassionate. The love the team has for the animals and their care is evident. DO NOT take your birds here ever! We took our African grey here to have his wing feathers trimmed as his normal person was unable to do them. The vet here has absolutely no idea how to properly trim birds wings but decided to try anyways. With improper wing trimming they have left our bird in a very unsafe situation. They cut them so short that he will not be able to safely fly down if he is startled or gets off his cage which can often result in a broken beak or worse. It will be quite some time before they grow back to a safe length so he will not be able to go on any of his stands for quite some time. Absolute hacks! You have lost our business for all of our animals. If you don't know how to do something on an animal don't just try it. On top of this they charged us $90 for the hack job and would not offer a refund.

Honestly everybody is so amazing there It's been a pleasure booking appointments and getting my questions answered from Hillary. The doctors really being able to be there and help you understand to understand the steps and different techniques and ways to approach your animals care. We left A long time ago after our last cat Fritz died And I'm so happy that I'm back with you guys honestly hands down 10/10. I've never seen one of my animals happy to go and come home from the vet

My dog went in for a routine operation last week and Main West was great. As owners, we were worried about him, but they gave us updates when available and gave us understandable instructions when we picked him up. Thank you very much!

Decent, doctors are hit and miss some are great some far from it. Very, very, very expensive but if you can get past that it's a decent vet.

The staff are so knowledgeable and willing to provide you with any information you may need. Even during these difficult times they have managed to make this experience a safe and comfortable environment for both you and your pet! They have a wonderful staff and fantastic service!

Everyone is so friendly and caring. Positive experience. Made sure I knew what was needed before visit and follow up phone call the next day is amazing service.

All the staff were very friendly and compationate. The Vet Dr. Mike was very knowledgeable and patient he answered all of my questions and gave me some advice in case the Meds don't work. He had some very nice things to say about my dog so I knew he had taken time with her. THANKS to ALl of the staff there.

Our first visit as new clients - we felt very comfortable and they knew our dog breed very well. Hope this keeps up and from all recommendations we've had, it does.

So far we are extremely happy with the service! Staff has been amazing from reception, techs and of course veterinarians. Very refreshing after leaving from a bad experience at our last animal hospital.

I've heard so many good things about this veterinary clinic and gave them about six visits with my four animals. I always walk away with a hefty bill to pay, having to wait 15-30 mins after my appointment time to be seen and no progress in one of my dogs who repeated got ear infections, just some steroids to eliminate the current issue only for it to repeatedly come back with the same treatment over and over again. They were rude on multiple occasions and seemingly implying that I was a bad owner for not wanting to do further testings that comes with another $300 to the bill. Not to mention that it's $110 just for them to simply look at the pet. I am not satisfied with the service and will not be returning.

Honestly, I'm disappointed. I took my cat there because he had a lump in his mouth. First they told me it was a autoimmune issue. The problem didn't go away we took him back and without any tests they told us it was probably cancer. Told him to a different vet. Only to find out it was a infection. A severe infection. If they had taken the time and actually run some tests, maybe it wouldn't have been an 800$ problem. I've decided to take my pets else where from now on.

This was our first appointment and even though we didn't get to meet with the Dr.face to face, our phone conversation with her was a very positive first impression.

We brought in an emergency puppy issue and we were very pleased with the service and care we received. Very professional, personable and affordable.

Personaly have had some issue with the vet i was very stern on wanting a insurance plan for my dog not a welness plan i was told i was getting pet insurance for 135 dollars a month later to find out that i was not signed up for what i was told i was being signed up for and after 10 months of payments i found out the hard way i was paying for a maintenance plan and had zero coverage when it came to a hernia operation and tumor biopsy. Needless to say i paid a thousand dollars out of pocket.

I was a new client and arrived for my 5pm appointment and sent the text to indicate I had arrived at 4: 43pm.
After waiting quite some time, I realized clients arriving after me had already been seen and left, and called the number indicated on the parking space sign. When I tell the receptionist I had texted and my dog’s appointment was almost a half hour ago, she tells me they didn’t receive anything from me and the doctor had now moved on, and it would be another little while before I could be seen. After one hour of waiting, I left.
Had they realized this was a system error and apologized, and told me someone would be right out to get my dog, this could have been a good experience and I would have left pleased.
This clinic is not cheap and I expected better service. I will not be taking my pets there in the future.

What can I say? What a great caring bunch of people. Our kitty had life threatening surgeries in March, scary times for us. But everyone we dealt with was fantastic and helped us through rough decisions and only wanted the best for our little furry kid. Now he is doing great. We can't thank everyone at Main West Animal Hospital enough. Stix says thank you too.

I brought my cat in today. They made a same day appointment with me which was greatly appreciated.
The vet was very thorough and went through all the options on how I can help my cat.
They caught a heart tremor that no other vet has pointed out yet and I am very grateful for that.
They prescribed him some medicine and special food and went over how to use it with me.
Over all I had a wonderful time with this vet and I definitely plan on coming to them for future visits.

First time here and I was impressed with their COVID protocols. Very efficient and informative. As frustrating as it is to not be able to be in there with my cat, the vet was very thorough and explained everything to me over the phone. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Thanks to everyone!

It is with great sadness that I am writing this. My sweet boy Hunter left us yesterday. As difficult as it was, my heartfelt gratefulness to Dr. Vaughn. As you have cared for Hunter, you have always had his best interest at heart.
You have always been informative, answering in detail all questions and concerns. Dr Vaughn, I will be forever grateful to you for spending my sweet boy Hunter's last moments with him. You are a Blessing to all our loved ones that have had the honour to be cared by you. Thank you Dr. Vaughn.

The staffs working in this location are enthusiastically cheerful and knowledgeable. They make the visit convenient for both staff and customers. Doctors and veterinarian are professionals, have great work ethic and let you know every piece you need to know. Covid protocols are easy to work with and straightforward.

10/10 will bring my pet here again.

You are all so wonderful.we have a golden retriever and a cat. Our pup is always excited to go into your clinic, you take such great care of him and you got us in so quickly for his last visit (re: infected hot spot). We really, really appreciated you helping us out on the financial side by reducing the hospital stay fee and including a complimentary nail trim while he was there. Communication, points program, and kindness of staff, techs, vets, etc.is so on-point. We would definitely recommend your clinic.

Very friendly customer service. Called in to make an appointment and was able to get an appointment for the very next day! Due to Covid-19 restrictions, I had to park and text them my parking spot number. It took them at least 35 minutes to come out and grab my cat! What was the point then of giving me an appointed time? It was bitterly cold out and I also haf my toddler in the car so I had to keep the car running the entire time with an impatient toddler. Other than that, service was efficient. The vet called me from inside to brief me and they followed up after a few days to see how my baby was doing. I would definitely go back again but keep in mind that I'll most likely have to wait despite having an appointment.

Shane was extra helpful/friendly during the scheduling process (made me laugh when I wanted to cry because my cat was sick). Dr. Debbie came out in the cold to update me on Oreo when she couldn't reach me by phone- it was freezing out, and she explained everything so thoroughly even though I'm sure she wanted to get back inside ASAP! Karen called a few days later to check in on Oreo which made me feel feel extra safe having Main West as Oreo's primary vet clinic. Thanks! I hope I don't have to go back for anything other than routine vaccinations/check ups, but if I do I feel comfortable knowing you will do the best for my little old-man cat.

Always great with my pets! So nice, easy going and easy to understand. Spsly over the phone these days. They care about your animal hands down. I searched for a while for the best place and Im glad I found it. I even drive 30min from another city. As they are worth it! So thankful for all they do!

All the staff have always been wonderful with our MANY of visits. They have always been compassionate in all situations (lost 3 cats in about 2.5 years (Cancer, Age/Tumor, and one with an Autoimmune disorder). They currently care for our Dog and 4 cats. When we first started going there they were the only vets out of 4 places that could figure out what was going on with my dog. Since then it's been a manageable issue and we have been going there and to their sister vet for about 8 years now (when we moved cities but are now back at Main West now that we are more local). I highly recommend them!

I am beyond happy with the care my English Lop, Morgan (Smith) received at Main West Vet this week. Morgan was getting neuter surgery and I was extremely thorough in deciding where to take him. Rabbits are considered exotic pets, and many vets will take on rabbit surgeries with little knowledge about them- but that was definitely not true with Main West. They were extremely knowledgeable on rabbit care, the risks of neuter surgery and they explained in detail each part of the process from dropping him off, to post surgery care. The team members were honest, informative, kind (I was coming from 2 hours away and was late due to a snow storm), thorough, and overall extremely welcoming. I am very impressed with their covid-19 protocols, keeping their staff, our pets and us safe. Their level of professionalism and constant communication made me feel at ease trusting them with our beloved boy. Morgan is back to hopping around (carefully) and we are following the very detailed steps for his recovery. As someone whose worked with animals for over 10 years, I am beyond impressed with this clinic. Morgan and I are very appreciative of their kindness and we wish you all a happy new year. My 7yr old lab mix has never been sick or injured, but it was bound to happen. Wash broke his biggest molar in a couple spots and it had to come out. Dr. Bahn agreed with me, even after we went over options. Since Wash hadn't eaten yet we could send him for same day surgery! It was scary and I was panicked, but the Main West team really helped me! They talked me through the surgery and it's ancillary fees and even offered me a payment plan option! It was amazing, they took such good care of my furbaby. He's home on the mend and kinda enjoying the special treatments!

Had an emergency one night. Dog had pulled a nail and needed attention. Although quite busy and close to closing time the staff at Main West Animal Hospital took first rate care of and promptly helped her. Compassionate and professional care was given.

We are new to the area and chose Main West Animal Clinic based on the reviews. We have used them twice and are very pleased with the service they provided. One of our cats became suddenly sick and they were able to get him in right away. The staff are very professional, friendly, understand how important our pets are and give us the time necessary we need to feel satisfied with our concerns. We have been taking our dogs and cats to main west for well over 10 years. The team they have is truly amazing. The front desk always starts and ends the visit on a great note, they are always extremely helpful and you can tell they care about the patients. We usually see Dr. Bahn, I can not say enough good things about him, the vet techs and other veterinarians at main west. We've had our fair share of health issues with our animals and Dr. Bahn always goes above and beyond what I expect every single time. The vet techs are always so amazing with our animals. Thank you all for always taking such great care of our sweet fur babies.
