Makimono Japanese Restaurant

I’d stay away from this place. The last two times I’ve been here the person preparing the food was literally clearing his throat OVER the food. I complained the first time and was shocked to see it happening again today.

The food they give you is NOT what you see on the menu. Example… order an Avacado salad. You get one sliver of avacado and a bowl full of lettuce. Order a dynamite roll which should come with a scoopful of salmon roe, and you get literally 6 or 7 tiny dots. (see photo).

This place doesn’t follow health guidelines, and doesn’t care about its customers. Such a shame.

Where do l start! First of all waitted for 45 mins to get food order.
After food came it was stone cold and not what we ordered.
Food service was garbage never again would l eat here but would never recommend it to none of my friends or family

I’ll be surprised if this restaurant survives these financially challenging times. Unfortunately, the experience dining here isn’t pleasant. I hope I’m wrong, but I feel the days of ‘all you can eat’ establishments will be a thing of the past, particularly if patrons are relying on iPads that time out when they’re already hangry to begin with. Annoying ordering concept that requires reworking. The quality of the sushi is decent, the atmosphere is alright, but the service is frustrating to say the least.

Food was amazing, great service. I would recommend everyone to try. Cost $39 all inclusive

Average Makimono, beef was slightly overcooked, waited a while for food but that was because it was really busy.

The sushi was a bit disappointing. Warm rice.made the Nori a bit chewy. Much preferred the dumplings. Shumi and hargow were steamed to perfection.

Good food and good portion size. This is my fiance's go to sushi spot in Pickering. Lunch specials are well priced and menu is huge!

Came here one evening with my wife for our anniversary dinner AYCE. We went and placed our initial order.the first half of our order came and we started eating. Honestly such average food, there was nothing i could even say was "good", it was just meh and below average.so a half hour after we sat down, and ate some of our food, i got a call from home that our baby was up and had been crying for a while - so we had to go.i went to the front and explained the situation that we have only been seated for a half hour and have to run.i said i would not dispute paying the full price ($90+), as i made that commitment as soon as i sat down, but i would appreciate being able to take atleast what we had left on our table (which was like 3 half eaten dishes). They said they cant give the food away for free.i explained again that we hardly ate anything, but no dice.i was told i could take the food on my table for around $5 which i agreed to because i was quite hungry. I 100% understand the rule that at a AYCE place, people can overorder, fill up at the restaurant, and then take "leftovers" home for other non paying customers - i get how one can abuse this.but this was obviously not the situation, as we were there for a half hour and probably ate $20 worth of food.i was given alot of attitude when i was talking to them about this, and was told "okay you dont pay, you dont take, you leave". The lady took the doggie bag and tossed it on the table while mumbling something.businesses need to treat their customers right.i felt like i was being treated as someone trying to scam the restaruant.if they were atleast nice and respectful, i wouldnt be writing this review.so aside from the fact that i felt disrespected and not an ounce of F's was given, the food was truely basic and disappointing.

Rolls, scrumptious. Sushi pizza, scrumptious.

Tempura, perfect. Best Ive ever had and Ive had incredible tempura.

MAKIMONO is a decent restaurant, I’d say the food could use some slight final touches and the serving time could be better, but what made my experience so amazing was this one tall handsome waiter, with pretty eyes and some beautiful puffy upright black hair, he was very caring and full of energy towards me and my little daughter, it was my daughter’s birthday and he’d made her very happy with his positive attitude and treated us as if we were exceptional guest, overall I’d say that waiter is the best waiter there, and had really satisfied me and my daughter that day, may god bless that young handsome waiter.

I have always liked this place. Food was good, staff was friendly. All tables were socially distanced.

Dinner was going fine until my partner saw a big earwig crawl onto our table from underneath. He pounded on it with a napkin, and when it didn’t die our server brought us another napkin to kill it and take it away.

There was no apology, acknowledgment, explanation or discount. I’m still shuddering

The staff was incredible and food was amazing the problem this place had was the menu didn't had much options in whitby location has more just the menu needs update.

I’ve been to this restaurant several times now, and every time has been such a pleasure. They’re able to accommodate large groups and they’re very kind. I don’t eat seafood and there were tons of options to choose from on the menu.

I always get the all you can eat instead of a la carte. Service is pretty remarkable - it’s always quick. Disappointing to see their menu for dinner had less vegetarian options than before. Many items were missing. Vegetable tempura was mostly tempura and very little vegetable. This location used to be 10 x better - I’m not sure what happened.

Nom nom nom the food is so good make sure you're hungry when you go all you can eat soooo good make sure you leave room for dessert!

One of the few Sushi places with a patio. Great food, lovely customer service, clean and affordable. Would definitely recommend and return!

Last few times I've done take out here, I have not been happy with the food. But this topped them all. I ordered Vegetable Udon Soup specifying that I am vegetarian so I wanted a vegetable broth. What I got was vegetables in a beef broth. I knew it wasn't vege as soon as i tasted it. My husband said it was definitely beef broth. I don't believe it was by mistake since the dish is called vegetable upon soup and I said vegetable broth. They think people won't be able to tell the difference and try to get away with it. It's cruel and disrespectful. Needless to say I will never be returning here ever again. There are many sushi restaurants around that cater to vegetarians. So no loss here except my appetite and $$.

Good selection, and quality is decent, but often left waiting for orders to be filled and following up with servers when they're not.

Love Makimono! I'm from Pickering and go here all the time. Sashimi is amazing & all you can eat! Other foods are great too. Only critique I can have is that the dinner is way too expensive ($10 more than lunch). Other than that, love this place; we've been going for years and will continue to do so!

Went in for lunch all you can eat the waitress was very rude, disrespectful and didnt care. We asked for no rice and they said no we cannot do that and she said it very rudely so they gave us rice and had to throw all that rice away. I WAS a regular customer here been going here for 2 plus years as it is convenient but I will never be returning here staff have become very rude over time and it is not a happy experience i ask for a refill of my drink and i wait 20 minutes for it overall not happy. Will never go here again very disappointed with this place time to try somewhere new

Nice to sit out in a patio. Food quality was average. Nothing to brag about. Good enough for a sushi fix in covid times.

Quality of sushi was pretty bad, ordered miso soup, came out Luke warm, grilled salmon was cold, send it back asked for a new one, the second one came out cold again. I asked for ice tea twice, they just brought me water. No idea what's happening there. Lack of communication? Must be a shortage of quality workers? The ingredients that they were using were good, but the presentation, and how they made the sushi were bad. I'll come back in a month and see if they have improved, but as of right now, it was a very bad experience.

It’s called makimono, but truly mono is what I wish I would have had instead of this. The sushi rolls were poorly done, the rice was hard and the fish was too warm. The temperature of the sushi was as if the sushi had been sitting out in the heat for a period of time. The tempura was not deveined, and poorly done. Halfway through I felt very sick, and could not continue. The waiter was rude and inattentive and did not take care of my order properly. I also threw up immediately when I got home which was traumatizing as I had to experience the food again. Unless you want to regret existing do NOT eat here.

Always like it here. I wished the patio was "prettier", lol. But otherwise good food and good service.

I would give 1 star if the food wasn't as good as it was. Service wasn't good, especially for the price. Seating time is 80 minutes, and in one instance I had to wait 40 minutes to be served despite being one of three tables at the time.

Pretty standard as far as the chain sushi places go but they're the only one with a patio near me

Poor service. The servers were using the same gloves to clean off the dirty tables and slsi to bring the fresh food. Never eating here!

Food is great as always. They have raised their prices and thats ok too and understandable since restaurants just opened up for dine in.but wish the service matched up the increased prices and long line up. Orders were mixed food arrived random with long breaks in between. Orders missed.i know they are very busy but I don't think I want to wait than pay increased price for food experience that I won't enjoy.you can do better

Quick service. Maintaining all COVID protocols appropriately. Sushi was fresh and good. Will go back there again once the in store dining opens up for ayce.

This is one of my favourites for Japanese.dine-in all you can eat is the best in the area and the take out is great when we're in lockdown.

Sashimi is the best. Thick pieces, juicy and gorgeous and fresh. The price of platters is slightly higher than in used to, but worth it.

The sushi is great and we used to come here for the all you can eat regularly. But it is absolutely not worth it during Covid. They say you have a max 80minutes to eat but it took more than 20 minutes to receive a dish after putting in an order and there was only one other table. The orders were wrong or incomplete every time and after 60 minutes we were told it was last call without ever being given a number of dishes even after explaining they were missing. An all around horrible experience.

Called ahead for pick up they said 45 minutes. Came 45minutes later only to have to stand in line in the freezing cold for another 45 minutes along with a bunch of other customers due to the lack of any organization.

Food was decent, but the service was terrible. We went on a Wednesday afternoon. The restaurant was not busy, yet they seated all the patrons in one area. I figured protocols would be different because of COVID.

The worst part of the experience, though, was that the staff / servers were louder than the customers. At times it sounds like they were arguing with eachother in the restaurant.

I visit this special restaurant every couple of days as I enjoy the special atmosphere that is part of this place. The crew is exceptionally loyal and professional. The service is pretty quick. Needless to say, the food they cook is first-rate. I have been there often and I was always pleased. The cost is decent. I highly recommend this place to to everybody.

The food has always been good. Everything tastes fresh and of high quality. The customer service could use a bit of improvement. Orders were not being checked often enough and we were waiting a lot between each order arriving. Pleasant atmosphere and seating is suited for large groups.

I came here for the dinner all you can eat. Service was awesome, the sushi was unbelievably good and the experience overall was 5 star. Definitely recommend this place.

The food was great, as well as the service. We like the ambiance. It's very welcoming, cozy and family friendly. Suited for a wide range of patrons.

Good quality food. Fresh and delicious sushi. Good to go for buffet as it is all you can eat. $22 for lunch and 30 for dinner adults. Lower prices for kids 8and under. You can order samples of many of the menu items. Cheaper then eating from the full menu. You get a tablet from which you can see pictures and number of serving which you tap to order. Service was a little slow but friendly. Warning if you can't finish a dish and want to pack it to go they charge an extra $2.

Food is good. Once it gets busy the wait time gets a bit longer for service and getting food. Can have a la carte or all you can eat. Good selection of food to choose from.

I'm a huge sushi eater and this is the most disappointing restaurant I've ever been to. I'm never coming back to such an establishment.

Chicken was all battered. Beef was all shredded. Food quality was quite low. Sushi was decent. I wouldn't return.

Food was delicious and service was friendly. Atmosphere is cool and sleek with a mostly black interior. Restaurant is located right off the highway which is convenient. Went there today for lunch. They have an all you can eat lunch menu for $19.99 per person.

The food itself was decent and the place nice and clean, unfortunately the service is extremely slow. We went for the lunch buffet and only 2 other tables were occupied. We ordered a 4 items at once and one came out then 10 or so minutes later another, eventually it speeded up slightly but overall still very slow.

Great food, good selections and excellent service. Their portions and prices are both fair. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good sushi restaurant.

They are very slow to bring the order. We have to aske them to send our order. She brought the beer without cup. We ask for soup and salad it comes in the end witch is ordered in the beginning. The food not bad but we can't taste it all because they taking long to send the orders. I think is waste of money. I don't think we will go there ever again.

I do not recommend this place at all. I’ve been here several times over the years and it keeps getting worse. The plates were tasteless and sushi wasn’t any better than sushi you can buy at a grocery store. $29.99 for a weekend dinner and the quality of the food is just horrible. When considering sushi in Pickering I’d suggest dragon rolls. I would also like to mention that I found a hair in the food. I understand that this happens from time to time but usually restaurants will adjust something on the bill.
