Food was amazing but service was too slow. The server lady was very very lovely but it took a while for us to get a pork bone soup, a hot stone bowl and a soup when there are only 3 tables in total. Clearly it’s not her fault but that’s the longest wait I’ve had in a Korean restaurant. I will definitely go back and maybe I will do take out because I just can’t for that long

Great little korean spot, side dishes were great, food was great, definitely a repeat customer.

Pork Bone soup is 4/5. Side dishes - 2/5.

Rude server/cashier.
She doesn’t pay attention.
I asked her nicely to repeat my take out orders and she looked at me with a cranky face then walked away.
Poor customer service.

Everything was tasty with lots of flavour. Free side items were excellent as well. If I had one complaint it would be regarding the Spicy pork. A little too one note, don't recommend it. Perhaps a bit more rice with all dishes as well.

Decided to try a random Korean restaurant in Scarborough. The parking area was very rough with many pot holes.

The restaurant was definitely a hole in the wall in this small plaza.

The food was delicious, but the service could be better.

Upon entering we noticed every table had not be cleared. It was also very noisy as the place is small. Guess it was a good sign that they had so many customers but unappetizing at the same time to see partially-eaten food and used dishes and cutlery left on all the tables.

The lone server tried to quickly clear off and clean a table for us. The cloth used to clean the table was grey and was likely white a long time ago. The server took our order quickly and was pleasant but it took about 20 minutes for the food to come out. In the meantime, we saw 4 other people milling around the back kitchen area. The kitchen btw needs a deep clean.

The banchan was homemade and very tasty: zuchini was fantastic and eggplant was delicious too. The grilled beef short rib was ok but expensive at $33.99 for what we got. Mushrooms on rice was fine.

Would not rule out returning to try the pork bone soup that I saw the table next to us order but only if I was in the area.

Food is okay. This is your average korean restaurant. Felt full right away. Ambience feels homey. They have ample parking.

Pork bone soup and bibimbap here are surprisingly good. I love their side dishes as well. Great customer services. Highly recommend!

Hidden Gem at the corner of warden and lawrence east in Scarborough. Delicious Korean food everytime I go. Ordered the wraps combo for two - comes with a selection of side dishes, soybean paste stew, rice, assortment of lettuce/greens and choice of two mains (this time we had bulgogi and teriyaki chicken). Food comes out piping hot, wraps come with a tasty soy bean paste adding an excellent layer of complexity to the flavour in every bite. Service is prompt, pleasant and efficient. Highly recommend!

Excellent! Small shop and a bit of a wait but well worth it. Very authentic and tasty Korean food a cut above the regular crowd. Definitely worth a visit.
02 September 2021 1:39
The food is delicious as always. They still served us even if we came in 40 minutes before closing. Excellent food and excellent service!
25 June 2021 0:09
The food here is absolutely amazing, and they're always so generous with the portions! They can get very busy around dinner time so be patient, I promise it's worth the wait! Staff are always very friendly in my experience.

Update:
I'm super happy to see them still operating during the pandemic. Food is great and takeout service is efficient, safe, and exceptional. Free parking out front in the small lot. I wish them the best and that they survive the pandemic. One of my faves for Korean.

Original:
Great little place with great food. Prices are reasonable. Often busy and place is small, so expect to wait. Decor is simple and a little dated.

Our go to place for Korean food. Love everything that they serve. We always get the pork bone soup!
25 May 2021 21:45
Horrible experience. Never order here again!
We order from take out apps and specifically called the restaurant to ask for cutlery but it come with no single cutlery. We called saying that we are moving and have no cutlery to eat.

The guy suggested that I get a car (as if everyone has a car) and buy from another store for cutlery, get another dish from them and paying for that dish for cutlery and “can’t do anything more”. If we can do it, do we need to order take out and call them at first?

Even we nicely ask if he can do anything else: refund, discount but he even say: “Are you kidding me, no refund. ” and hang up?
So maybe they expect we eat hot soup, hot food with our hand Barely give bad feedback but their attitude definitely

Located in a strip plaza that’s a hole in the wall. If you don’t know what you’re looking for you could miss this hidden gem for some of the best Korean food I’ve ever had. The dining room is quite tiny and indoor dining capacity (pre covid) was not the greatest to begin with, more often than not will have to wait in line for a table. Parking space is also limited in the immediate plaza and be cautious of parking to the west side of the parking lot near the furniture store as the owner there will rightfully let you know those spots are for his store’s customers only or you’ll risk a ticket/ tow. Private washrooms on the premise for dine in customers only.

Seafood pancake is among the, if not, the best I’ve ever had and this was also a shared sentiment with other friends I have recommended this restaurant to. Kimchi fried rice is also very delicious choice but our favourite dish is by far the lettuce wrap combos served here. Since the onset of the pandemic, we have been relegated to take out / delivery only and the food is very well packed in secured containers to lock in freshness and keep organized. Not the most environmentally friendly however, but the food remains top notch and perfect comfort food when we are craving for Korean cuisine. Menu is relatively limited in terms of variety, but every dish we have ever ordered has been very tasty. The side dishes here are also among some of the best in terms of variety and taste that we have had the pleasure of enjoying. Definitely recommend giving them a try if you’ve got a favourite Korean restaurant to compare and they may just change your mind, forever!

Udon soup and beef bulgogi were excellent. The kimchi rice was just ok. We will definitely go again.

I ordered Vegetable Wraps (Squid and Pork Wraps). Its price in the restaurant website is 17.99 but they charge 23.39 when ordering through Uber which is 30% more. I know they have to pay Uber some fee and most restaurants charge more expensive prices when ordering through Uber. BUT, they don't need to hire their own delivery driver and buy a car for delivery which makes them save expense. I don't understand why they charge more.

The food I ordered was Squid and Pork Wraps. 23.99 + delivery fee + service fee + tax. The portion was really small and I had hard time to find squid. I finally found 5-6 small pieces and they are from 'fin' of squid. Nothing from its mantle. So disappointing and i won't order food from this restaurant again.
25 January 2021 11:42
More of a 4.5 right now as only had one item to go delivered via uber eats.

But the food was good, no issues and willing to order here again. Will update review again once i do.
16 January 2021 10:04
This spot is fantastic and roomy, the food was yummy and the prices were very economical.fast, productive service and very amiable staff. Will definitely recommend this restaurant.
09 January 2021 2:43
Hands-down some of the best Korean food in Toronto. Prices might seem a tad pricey, but the portion size is fantastic. You owe it to yourself to try the Bulgogi here at least once.
22 December 2020 6:01
Very good authentic Korean food and friendly service. Been there twice (once before the pandemic for a sit down dinner and once during lockdown take out only). Never had an issue with wait times - maybe I don't go during peak hours.
06 June 2019 21:14
Food is ok and I went a few times until one night I saw them not wash the water cups after they were used and were placed in the sink behind the counter. They literally gave the cups a one-second rinse under the tap and filled them with water and gave it to the next customers. Scary! I wanted to throw up after I saw that. Not what I would expect to see even if it was during a busy time. I haven’t returned since that visit cuz not sure what goes on behind the kitchen if they can’t even clean the cups people drink out of.honestly, think twice before going.it’s def.not a sanitary place. This is is worse than bad service.
06 June 2019 12:57
I was there a few days ago with my family. It wasn't so busy but the food and service was terrible. The waiter and waitresses were so rude and i was confronted about tip. I even saw them pour hot water from the tap into the tea pot. It should be cold water and boiled Never coming back here
31 May 2019 5:37
Amazing staff, food and atmosphere! My go to Korean restaurant. They have the best pork bone soup. Although sometimes the wait times can be long, I can ensure you that it’s well worth it!
29 May 2019 1:13
My fave Korean (authentic) restaurant to go to in the east end. It's small but food is fresh and delicious. I like the grilled mackerel and sundubu.plenty of panchan and also free refills! Thanks!
18 May 2019 7:08
The place is small but selections pretty good. Bulgogi is delicious and spicy pork bone soup. The wraps are good too even their eel - little sweet be warned.
I also tried sizzling beef ribs but it wasn't marinated properly as it wasn't that good.
They served this with appetizer included.
Price is competitive and liking the location by Lawrence and Warden in Scarborough.
One of the best Korean restaurants out there.
13 May 2019 8:05
Very happy with my visit to Makkal Chon (well, relatively speaking—I went to a funeral immediately following lunch). Nice atmosphere and the service was super friendly and efficient. The food was excellent and the sides were the best I’ve ever had in my many years of eating in Korean restaurants. One of the best experiences I’ve ever had with Korean food. Highly recommended.
05 May 2019 21:32
Very bad experience, we took menu by ourselves. There's a female waiter, she only severiced Korean customer, and neglect of foreigners. Others table was full of side foods but we had nothing. We just like the air in this restaurant.
21 April 2019 0:40
Their gamjadang is little spicier than other places and the flavor is also little better:)
Side dishes here is different from the rest of the lot in Toronto. Service is nice. Washroom is clean. Their grilled beef in hot pan is tasty but priced high. This is my second visit and will come again.
15 April 2019 6:19
One of our favorite Korean restaurants in Toronto and, really, the only one in the east end. The good ones are all located west of Yonge Street so we are quite happy that Makkalchon continues to operate in Scarbs.

The grilled pork (we usually order it as past of the wraps combo) is always well-season and cooked well. The banchan (appetizers) are consistently good as are the soups (typical Korean fare.pork bone, soon tofu, etc). I particularly love the beef short rib soup.it's a clear broth (not spicy) that warms me up especially on chilly days.

Be waned that they only serve purple rice and it's stickier and heavier than regular white rice. I don't like it as much but it's purely a personal preference. I do find that the more traditional Korean restaurants serve only purple rice.

Service is fast, the place is small, "rustic" and clean, there's always a line-up and the location isn't the best (part of an old strip mall) but we don't really go there for the ambience and view of the street. Prices are reasonable (about 15 bucks per dish) so if you are craving authentic Korea food east of Yonge, this is the place to be.

We frequent this establishment. The food is delicious and the side dishes compliment to anything on the menu.
There are a few things to look forward to on your visit:
-It is still packed in the dinner time.
-They sometimes take reservations judging from the fact that they blocked 4 rows of tables that one time people were waiting upwards of 45 mins, in the blistering cold.
-Tips. Its a good gesture to give tips for good service, but anything under 10% will be frowned upon by the staff. One time, I witnessed a staff member confront a customer for the tip that they gave.
13 April 2019 10:34
My wife and I happened upon this wonderful Korean restaurant as we were in the area. We both shared the chicken Katsu along with the spicy chicken wrap. They were absolutely delicious. The flavours were spot on.
The staff were attentive and courteous.
A wonderful food experience to be had for sure. And the side dishes! Wow.they were plentiful and the variety was unexpected but definitely appreciated. They were a delicious adventure in itself. A+ experience all the way.
10 April 2019 16:02
Me and my friends eat in this restaurant sometimes. The food is good but the service is bad.

There’s a mean waitress who is not thankful of the tip I gave. She looked at me like I’m ridiculous by giving her a dollar tip. I’m a student and not rich. I eat in this restaurant sometimes because of the good food. I always say “thank you” when they serve the dishes.

I also do part-time in food service but I never ask for a tip and I’m always thankful if they give one, even if they only give cent and I never ask for more. But, this waitress is rude.

Sorry if I can’t afford to give you more tips as you expected. I’m embarrassed with myself.
25 March 2019 14:13
Good food, good service (depending on the server, as there were 2 servers and one of them was quite friendly, while the other one wasn't). Their 2 for 1 wrap combo doesn't make sense. Only $1 cheaper, but if you order 2 separate meals, you get 2 soups instead of one and 2 settings of wrap instead of one.
24 March 2019 4:27
Scarborough's hidden gem! Definitely recommend if you enjoy authentic Korean cuisine! There is usually a wait during dinner time, so come early to avoid the traffic!
18 March 2019 23:00
Amazing Korean food located in an inconspicuous plaza in Scarborough. Had the bbq combo for two and the seafood pancake (which can be ordered by itself despite showing up as part of the "liquor combo" section). Seafood pancake was gigantic and thick with seafood - so good! Bbq was plentiful and tasty too plus came with some tofu stew. Would come back again for sure!
16 March 2019 0:51
First visit today and definitely won't be the last! The pork bone soup was really, really good! The same with the side dishes it came with! Left with a happy and satisfied tummy! Reasonably priced for the quality.can't wait to try the rest of the menu!
13 March 2019 17:29
Spicy bulgogi on hot plate had beef that was good, the side dishes did not live up to the mark, Kimchi & spinach was good

Squid was not acceptable

I found the pork bone soup above average

Delicious food, excellent value. Great spot to grab Korean food in Scarborough. Can't make reservations on the weekend so we had to wait a while for seating for our large group but it did not disappoint!
15 January 2019 18:01
Food was delicious but service was definitely on the slow side. It was a very busy evening though and i'm not sure if they were short staffed or just disorganized. I would return since the food was good but i'd make sure you don't have anywhere to be after dinner.
01 January 2019 21:49
By far my favourite place for Korean food. Their specialty is the different meat wraps and they are just so good! Cold boiled cabbage? It’s brilliant with the meat. They are always generous with side dishes, my favourite is the vinegar marinated eggplant. Recently tried the ox tail soup, it was so flavourful and it didn’t even need the salt or pepper that came with it. Little gem in Scarborough. Would recommend taking time to make a trip for some authentic Korean food.
21 December 2018 15:20
Always delicious! I've eaten here many times and am never let down. Great porkbone soup, mackerel, kimchi stew and my new fav cartilage soup. Mmmmmmm. Hungry. Also, they're super generous with the sides. Often 5-7 different ones.
19 December 2018 16:53
I’m very regretted I didn’t take a photo. The pan fried chicken is raw.literally RAW. We had first bite and realized it’s so undercooked.we can even see the blood. Very disgusting! People can get POISONED from eating that raw chicken.the lady just took it back to Kitchen and pretended nothing happened. When we paid at front, she didn’t even apologize for the bad experience or provided a small discount as compensation. Anything would have made us feel a bit better. At least we deserve a manager come up and apologize for what happened. Terrible experience. Do not recommend!
13 December 2018 6:48
Food overall is good, however the spicy chicken we ordered came out raw.

Service is below standard, slow, no table check and we need to consistently ask for tea refills.
