The food was okay, Service was not very good our server walked by a couple of times and never offered us a refill or anything. I’m sure the patio would be nice in the summer but the atmosphere inside is rather dark and gloomy. I tipped the server 5 bucks and she didn’t really seem appreciative at all.
Malt and Barley is easily one of the best restaurants in the region. We live close by so we have ordered a lot over the years. Food is always fresh and delicious. I’ve never tried something I didn’t love. Service is always amazing as well. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a great meal!
I've been here twice this month, and I'm eager to go back again. The pot roast was delicious, and having a filling meal and a beer for $26 is fantastic. Service was really good too! Absolutely great experience.
Food and service were amazing! We started with the calamari which was great, I got the seafood chowder which was delicious and full of large shrimp and mussels. My husband got the burger which was delicious and we ended with sticky toffee pudding which was one of the best we've ever had! Will definitely be back.
Love this place! Good food, friendly service, welcoming neighbourhood charm, live music, prices are more than fair, lots of TV's playing all the big games (especially the soccer games:)
This local pub is great for a weeknight celebration dinner or a get together with friends on the weekend. We love to order "The Williamsburger" with sweet potato fries and drinks. I recommend visiting on Thursday night because that's when it's on special for half price! This prime rib beef burger is loaded with toppings, served hot, fast and it's really delicious, every time! Malt & Barley is the type of restaurant where you can relax in a booth, enjoy the reliability of daily specials, live music during dinner, and we always look forward to the fun banter with the awesome staff.
This charming place has some outstanding food! The servers are true professionals and we managed to catch a live music performance by a local musician, Joel Morelli who was incredible! See you soon!
I went in one night cold, tired, and wet from the storm. Some guy shaped like a capital Y named "derek" brought me a guinness so crisp & delicious that Bono himself would've had to change the lyrics to "I still haven't found what I'm looking for". You can bet your biscuits I'll be back for more. Cheers.
Derek has to be one of the best waiters in the region. What an absolute delight. Made dinner with our young family amazing. Food was amazing. Atmosphere was perfect. Malt and Barley is a gem!
Lots of great food choices and room between tables out in the extended patio (extends into the parking lot) although depending the time of the day, the umbrellas don't provide much shade; the main patio area seems to have more shade coverage but tables feel less spaced out there. Generous portion sizes and reasonable cost for a meal from the kids' menu.
Haven't been there for several years since it was Williamsburg Arms. They have an awesome patio. Great inside seating and barside seating too. Friendly waitstaff. They had live entertainment on the Friday night we went with good music. However, the volume level was such that we couldn't talk to each other. Ended up on the patio. No problem. Food and drinks were perfect.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, service and atmosphere this evening! Our waiter Derek was excellent! He accommodated our 90 year old friend's requests and questions and she loved him! The soup he recommended was delicious and we loved the highly recommended wings. A truly pleasant experience. We will definitely be back!
Firstly, the flavour of foods here is not bad. The biggest issues for me is that everything is so incredibly salty. Burger patties, gravy, you name it. I think a good resraurant should really be able to get the saltiness level right If this issue is fixed I think it can atbe a 4 star.
This is our go-to pub. Our family and friends come here regularly for some good times and great food. No complaints! We're lucky to have the best wings in town right next to our home! The munchie box is definitely our favourite to order, followed by their amazing cheese curd poutine and fish-n-chips.
Great pub feel. Food is amazing for the price. Got their cod and donair sandwich. Both were absolutely great. Dont skip the sticky toffee pudding its to die for. Our waitress Bree was super kind and attentive. We will definitely be coming back soon.
I just recieved my order and I'm very unhappy! Why would you pack the box with burnt fries. Even the fries with the fish is all burnt. That's poor service
Not vegan friendly - vegetarian options are clearly marked on the menu but I don’t recommend coming here for dinner if you are vegan unless you want a plate of fries. I asked the waitress what on the menu could be made vegan, she said she didn’t know so would ask the kitchen. She came back and said nothing was vegan. So not even the veggie stir fry was vegan or could be made vegan? I don’t think the waitress even bothered checking for us. So we ordered a plate of fries to eat with the cocktails we ordered. Cocktails were yummy and live music was fun but with so many vegan friendly restaurants in the area we certainly won’t be returning here for dinner.
Excellent atmosphere, the food was phenomenal. We had the seafood platter and everything was excellent. The live performer was also great. Definitely the place to go in Williamsburg.
It was a full dinner time. Went there around 6pm, but we got to sit very quick. The waiters super helpful and friendly.
Ordered the shore snacker platter and was a big portion for the 2 of us but everything taste good, calamari, shrimp, muscles (bit cold, not my fav) etc
They go above and beyond if they forget an item they will deliver it to your house! Support local people their service is Phenomenal Not to mention their food is always on point tasty and presented well. 10 stars for me!
Standard pub fare, friendly staff and good portions. A bit too salty for my taste buds but an overall good place to hangout. Their lunch special are great value for money.
Had the worst service this evening. Took 15 minutes to get a menu. 50 minutes to get our food (burger and nachos). Not once did the waiter come by to refill out drinks (water and diet coke) or ask how the food was.
Edit: Sept 7/2019: Service was better, very personable, still slow on receiving the food.but they were busier than normal which is to be expected. Food was fresh and hot. Offered to have our drinks refilled several times, etc.
Nice place. Good pub atmosphere. Can sometimes feel like your more of an inconvenience then a customer. One experience had me leaving my table to go to the bar to get my own drinks even though I was one of the only people there. No one seemed to mind that.
Nice clean place. They had a good selection of beer and cocktails. Service was good and quick. My family enjoyed everything we ordered. The nachos were skimpy on the cheese and toppings but the wings were very good! We will be back for those again soon!
Four of us stopped for a bite to eat after golf. It was a nice evening so we sat out on the patio. Holly took good care of us. Getting water and our round of beers. We followed with chicken wings that were quite tasty.
This was a delightful evening at this local establishment. The staff were energetic and attentive. Very quick to find out the extent of my wife's food allergies. Great selection of craft beer. The food preparation was way above average and presented well. The cooks really know how to create fine tasting meals. Absolutely wonderful! Desert was also great. Highly recommended.
Stop in after a hike and had lunch. The staff was attentive and friendly. Had their classic burger and it was great. Only thing I would change is a large selection in their menu, other then that it was good experience. Would go back again.
Our new local watering hole now that we live in the neighborhood, great pub food, wide variety of beers on tap (good bigger name UK selection) and live music. Part of a 3 restaurant conglomerate that I hear are all great places. Happy I live close by!
Been here twice and both times the food wasn't good. First time here I had the wings which were extremely overcooked and nasty. Second time I had fish and chips that were greasy and once again overcooked. Prices are way too expensive for the quality you get. Some of the servers are decent, but others are absolutely terrible.
I keep giving this place a chance. This time will be the last as it was by far the worst. First the food. We ordered fries with dressing. The dressing was so rock hard you had to spoon it onto the fork. The fries were soggy and looked as if they came from the frozen freezer section. Not the end of the world and not enough to lead me here to write a review.
But the server. Wow. No introduction. Dropped off menus but didn't bother ask us if we wanted drinks. Did not simile once. Normally when you thank a server who brings you food and drinks they respond. No. Just turned and walked away from the table. It was quite uncomfortable actually. At the end of the meal I paid the bill and our server just took the receipt and walked away. No thanks for coming, have a nice evening. It was by far THE worst service I have ever experienced. I'd hate to see what serve we would have gotten it we were difficult customers.
PS: No, I was not rude, demanding, or disrespectful and I don't expect Mary Poppins service. This however, was just unpleasant. Period.
First off, kudos to Malt and Barley for hanging up The Williamsburg Arms sign inside as a tribute to the old bar. This is a great bar to meet friends for an after work drink. I’ve tried the Mussels (delicious) and the Pork schnitzel (also yummy). The fries are too salty for me, but I’ve enjoyed everything else. The have a good selection of whiskies and beer on tap. I cannot wait for the patio to open. I can envision some nice afternoons sitting out there.
Went for wing night on a Wednesday, yes we expected it to be busy, however we experienced slow service. About a 10min wait just to order food, and our waitress only came to check on us once during the meal. Feel like there should be more wait staff during peak times on days with specials. Good food.
Fairly decent pub with a good array of beers and scotch to satisfy most adventurous pub goers. Attended a birthday event and it was well catered and a good time. The small party room was sufficient for the event even though we spilled out into the bar area. Great staff. Will return when in the area next.
Been there multiple times and been seated and been ignored and walked past while others get seated and served for over 10 min. Walked out for the last time.
Had a great time here on Saturday night. Atmosphere was awesome and the service was great. I didn't know what I felt like drinking and the bartender offered some suggestions that were perfect. Food was really tasty and I am intending to go again for sure!
We used to come to the Williamsburg arms and had an ok experience when we were here. But now the new management is easily at the top of their game. Our food took a bit longer than usual but the place is still new so we didn’t balk. The manager came by shortly before our food arrived and preemptively apologized for the delay. He offered us free desserts saying “we’re not above buying your love back”. That was easily the best line I’ve ever had from any manager at any restaurant in all my life.
Thanks malt and barley, thanks for rising to the top today! We’ll be back.
Staff very friendly and food is surprisingly good, found only two problems: they give you ONE napkin and that is it. Also some stuff are overpriced, like 6 dollars for a little bit of chicken on a small Caesar salad.
FInally a place in town with fabulous food! It's hard to find something authentic where the balance and flavour of each dish has thoughtfully been considered. I recommend the mushroom & barley pie.and who knew chicken fried bacon was thing I never knew I needed!
Food is terrible and grossly overpriced. I had their version of a wedge salad and to be honest you can't get that wrong can you well -trust me they did and there was very little of stuff on the plate. The guy i was with chose the place as to quote him he was famished. For a guy who was famished but leaves half of a chicken and bacon bun and the plate of fries just goes to show you how bad it really was. There wasn't much atmosphere there when we went so maybe word is getting around not to go there. As for the glowing reviews previously given i have my doubts to be honest - paid friends maybe.
Food was a 3, but the atmosphere and service were 5. Great music, average beer selection, and great servers. The food needs work. The ideas are great, but the flavour/final product is lacking. Perfect place for a social evening out for drinks/light snacks.
This is just a great pub, varying types of food with some great beer on tap! TWB IPA! Love it. Halifax donair is great, I can't compare it to the original, but it is delicious. I'll be back soon.
The Malt & Barley was excellent. The food was amazingly delicious! The staff was also very friendly. It had such a warm and vibrant atmosphere. I would recommend it to anyone!:)
What a transformation. The new ownership have improved almost everything about the old Williamsburg arms. The service is now snappy and friendly and the menu is really great. Anyone that lost faith in the old place should give the new place and owners a shot. They'll change this place back into the great local you deserve.
Garlic bread platter is one of our favourites. Fried chicken was excellent. Would recommend this place any day. Waiters were very friendly and helpful too.
Loved the Halifax Donairs, Kitchener was in desperate need of a place selling these. So happy to find a place that has Caffreys on tap, Fantastic Fraser salad as well. Will definitely be back many more times
Was a regular of the Williamsburg Arms so was curious how this would turn out after the renovations. Usually go for the wing night on Wednesdays and they still had the deal on which was good to see. Some different flavours; some swapped out but they were tasty as always. The cheesy fries from before were replaced with poutine - the cheesy fries were better. They were loaded with more cheese, and lots of flavorful gravy. The gravy changed and wasn't as good, and not much cheese curds on it so that it a bit disappointing. Excited to try the all you can eat mussels on Mondays, and tried the breakfast on the weekend. Only 3 things, it'd be nice if there was a few more things to pick from. But the Malt & Barley breakfast is a classic bacon and eggs, with their own beans. Everything was cooked perfectly and good value given the price and portion size. I'd definitely go back for breakfast, and I hope they improve their poutine!
