The food was ok, but the appetizers took almost 45 minutes and it was a soup that was as small as it was expensive, same for dessert. I hate saying this because they were really nice and the service was good.
We were here one evening in October. Cold and rain. Even though there were only 4 of us eating, we ate very well. The hot mushroom soups are delicious, the sandwiches and wraps are equally delicious. Polite and friendly staff, always smiling. Highly recommended!
Goodness, if this place got rated highly in the town, I wonder about the other restaurants. The veal schnitzel was one of the worst I've eaten. The 5" piece of shoe-leather meat was barely pounded flat and was a chewy, greasy mess. The spaetzle were also nothing to crow about. I decided to have a creme caramel for dessert and couldn't even finish it. The texture was like milk curdled in Coca-Cola.
Cozy place for a tasty lunch. We visited post the lunch hour and was greeted immediately. The service was excellent and the food (penne pasta, fried shrimp and haddock) was delicious. They even have patio seating.
We went here on a rainy evening and it was fairly quiet. The atmosphere was relaxed but a bit too quiet. Good knowledge of gluten free and able to substitute as needed. The food was really delicious and felt very traditional. I would recommend to others who are gluten free and wanting something a bit different.
The food was amazing! Great place to try Schnitzel! They have a big selection of different foods, burgers, sausage, soup, etc. Great interior and amazing service.
When we arrived server didn't even acknowledge us till 5 mins later. Told us to sit anywhere then took another 5 mins to bring menus out then we waited 15 mins for him to take our order. There was a few regular customers that came in after we were already sitting there for 10 mins. The server got their drinks and food 20 mins before we got ours. The service there was absolutely the worst I've ever received in my life. The food was terrible our fries were cold and the burger was undercooked. We still paid the $75 bill tho even though we all feel like we have to vomit. I definally don't recommend at all.
Great place to eat! Was our first time. First thing when you walk in is it's spotless. Clean, clean. Washroom was spotless. Can see kitchen from eating area, it's the same.spotless. So nice, because this reflects the food. Ok, the food was 5. Soup was magnificent and water was ice cold. Waited on by a great waitress named Sarah, who described the meal perfect and answered our questions. We will be back. Also, the have a nice gluten free menue options if that helps.
Food wasn’t great and when I couldn’t eat a side because it had an allergen, they gave me 10 fries and charged me $5 as if it was a full additional side order. It’s expensive and not worth it. When we discussed the fries, the waiter was extremely rude and told me “I can’t read your mind. ” Disrespect and not worth it. Literally go anywhere else.
We will not return! We have tasted much better homemade food before! - too salty -small portions and over priced! For example: we paid $14.50 for 4 perogi! It’s the truth, priced right in their menu, however failed to mention you only get 4! - not fair and not wise! Can’t understand all the positive reviews - our only explanation is that these other reviews must be from people that are not of European decent and may not know how good homemade food can actually taste! Our waiter would benefit from some training and use common etiquette and manners when serving paying customers!
The price is incredible fair – we’ve spent around 120 cad for a complete meal for 4 people. On the restaurant entrance there’s a message telling the customer that they are not a fast food restaurant, so the food won’t be fast. And it’s true. The meal took a while to be served, but it was really good and the service was nice and warm – fell like a home meal served by someone that actually cares by the customer. The only thing is some dishes as really spices and there’s no disclaimer about that at the menu. Other than that, the food was really good.
Really enjoyed the schnitizel. I had the Toscana with parm cheese and prosciutto. The real stand out was their perogies, had never had homemade perogies before and my wife and I were sad that there were only 4. Would recommend and visit again.
The place was a huge disappointment. We decided to go there based on the reviews. Unfortunately, our experience is far from great. The only good thing was the friendly waitress. The food was expensive compared to the quality and size of our portions. The worst of all was the ”orange juice” I had ordered for my kids. Instead of juice, we received some juice residues diluted with warm water (1 portion of juice and 10 portions of water). I do not recommend this place since you can find better dining options in Gananoque.
We stopped in Ganacoque for a few days while boating in the Thousands Island. No reservation and we got into the Maple Leaf around 20: 00 on a Wednesday night. Great service, great menu and we decided to go for the diner menu: Rahm Schnitzel and chicken Schnitzel, simply excellent. Make sure to take the spaetzle! Great service!
Everyone's meals, Beef Rouladen, leg of Duck, and burger were delicious but we would have preferred larger portions. I had both the light and dark Czech beers and I loved them both.
Very good restaurant. We both had pork schnitzel and I had it with the creamy mushroom sauce. The entrees came with spaetzle and slaw and they were expertly prepared and filling. I only wish I had room for the desserts because they also looked wonderful. Absolutely a repeat worthy place when visiting Gananoque!
LOVE this restaurant.food we ordered were amazing.waitress is super friendly.prices are reasonable. We had such a good time.this is a must go to restaurant.highly recommended.
Two stars is because I paid $24 for a dish I would maybe have been okay with if it was under $5. I was really excited about Maple Leaf because I havent had schnitzel in a while. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and was overwhelmingly disappointed. It was a weird kind of chewy and tasted like it was made from low quality chicken, and had been overcooked and left under a heat lamp for hours. The pierogies weren't great either - not bad, just not good. I have had better frozen store-bought pierogies. My partner ordered the hamburger steak which tasted like plain ground beef. I ate my meal because we had a long drive ahead of us and I didn't have time to reorder but I definitely feel ripped off and will not return or suggest it to anyone. It was a lot to pay for an incredibly disappointing meal.
Nous sommes allés dans ce resto sur recommandation du Routard Dommage: service expeditif et apéritif servie avec les plats. Service minimum correct.mais rapport qualité prix pas terrible Nous avons été déçu
Great taste of German and Czech food! Nice size portions and great daily specials. Staff friendly and helpful. Prices very reasonable for the great quality of food. Would definitely go back again!
Absolutely the best! Polish barszcz is really Polish. Gulasz and knedle still I want more! Herring. Canadians not only hamburger and fries. Try something different. For sure I'll come back!
If you are in this area and skip this place, you are missing a lot. If I go there or even pass by, this is where I will have my lunch or dinner. No brainer!
The name is misleading for sure. It's a Czech restaurant I suppose. Very casual, family style, friendly environment. The staff is very kind and helpful. You can pick from several schnitzel variations. I've ordered Toscana (pork schnitzel with mozzarella & prosciutto) and Chicken; never tasted so good schnitzel in a very long time. 10/10. Also the dark lager was great too
If you are tired of Italian and Asian cuisines served at majority restaurants that is the place to be. Clean kitchen with an amazing chefs. Divine European dishes.
I had spaetzle that was ok & lots of it, but I am not a fan of that type of food & don't eat meat like bratwurst. The restaurant is in the quaint little town of Gananoque, Ontario, Canada & has outside seating too. It seems very popular & fills up quickly, so reservations at dinner are probably best. We were early birds that day. They do have a board of specials out front & the desserts case was tempting.
Good Czech food in an unexpected place: We were passing through town and needed a place to eat before the boat cruise. We saw the reviews for the Maple Leaf Restaurant and decided to give it a shot. We had just been to Prague, Czech Republic, so we were curious about whether the food reminded us of the non-tourist places where we ate in Prague. In short, this is a solid place where the borsch and schnitzel were very good, and they suitably reminded of us Prague. The prices are reasonable for a restaurant of this type and for a tourist town, and the service was excellent. It's run by a Czech family, and the daughter-in-law took care of service out front. Based on our first experience here, we will return here the next time we need a spot for lunch or dinner in Gananoque.
We were visiting Gananoque yesterday and wanted to try the "Maple Leaf snitzel", their "specialty" that had good ratings. Actually, it was the worst snitzel I ever had at a restaurant! With a side of obviously frozen fries and a salad so full of vinegrette that it completely sank the snitzel, turning it moist. Can't believe that people rated the snitzel 4 and 5 stars, because we had 2 snitzel that day and both were awful! Have they never had a snitzel at a good restaurant?
Friendly advice: If you want to enjoy some good food, go to Riva restaurant ;)
Food was ho-hum at best, on the verge of being over-priced. The fries tasted like they came out of a yellow bag from the frozen food section at No-Frills. The ketchup (while in a Heinz bottle) was runny. The $13 perogie appetizer was 4 limp/mushy perogies, with one slice of overcooked bacon (diced). The reuben sandwich was nothing special, and the burger (pre-packaged and frozen) was served on a Wonder Bread bun. The bathrooms are not equipped with change tables for babies. If it were the last place on earth still serving food, I guess I'd go back. The serving staff were nice enough, hence the 2 stars. The food deserves fewer stars.
Although the pierogi tasted phenomenal and were made so authentically, they were a bit cold. (But you can NOT find polish pierogi like this at any grocery store - very tasty!)
Really good food. The schnitzel reminded me of being in Germany. The service was friendly and prompt. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good, comfort food.
Came here for Rahm Schnitzel and Spaetzle with the creamy mushroom sauce. I've been to Germany a few times and had it there, this restaurant did not disappoint. Crust on the Schnitzel was crunchy and cooked perfectly. Spaetzle was soft but not soggy. Enjoyed my meal. Staff were courteous/friendly and food arrived quick.
