Mastermind Toys

First of all, I entered on a rainy day, the front door there is no carpeting or nonslip grip on the floor so I slipped and slid into the store, injuring all of the toes on my left foot. Then, after browsing in the Pokémon section with all three employees standing around, chatting at the central cash waited seven minutes for someone to come help me with the cards, and then after informing them of my injury, they just simply looked at the flooring and came back. No apology no nothing. I purchased a car is it but I would not recommend going to the store. It has terrible service and I was very upset. I will not be going back. They have zero concern on the safety other customers and apparently zero interest in making sales. It’s like they need to be retrained!

This particular store is the best toy store I've ever been in! So many different categories of toys. The toys are so much better than they are at ToysR us. The owner or manager of the store personally helped me find what I came to get. My son loves this store and he's nearly 4. He will like this store for many many years to come.

We walked in to the store only to be treated with passive aggressive and quite frankly racist attitudes on behalf of the employees. Don’t recommend going if your Muslim especially.

Fantastic portal to a world of toys. The best selection of children's toys, perfectly displayed. Not just a toy store, it is an experience deserving many a sequel journey. Very accessible, welcoming environment, inciteful and helpful staff. Thank you Mastermind Toys!

Didn’t offer any bags when I was there for the multiple items I had. Sold me two incomplete Lego sets and tried saying it’s not the policy to accept exchanges. I contacted Lego first and they said to bring it here since it’s faster than them.
If I could give less than half a star I would. Very disappointed. Will not be returning to this store again.

Wow. I like this toy store. It actually had some really cool stuff. I received a free toy from mastermind for my son's birthday and the variety was actually really nice.

My daughter received a thoughtful gift from family purchased at mastermind toys. Unfortunately, she already had multiple versions of this toy and has no need for additional toys. Thankfully, a gift receipt was attached to the gift and we went to the Waterloo store to receive a full refund. The refund was intended to be invested on my daughters behalf towards her future education. Drew, the store manager indicated that a refund is not possible with a gift receipt. It is store policy that a refund must be applied to a store gift card. Unless we had the original receipt (this was a gift, so that wasn’t possible) and even then the refund would only be issued back to the original purchaser. This refund policy is highway robbery. It is not made clear to purchasers who request a gift receipt that purchases are unable to be refunded to intended gift receiver. It is completely unreasonable for a purchase not to be refunded in full whether a receipt is a gift receipt or not. A refund to a gift card is not a true refund and tows the line of theft from a child. Unacceptable mastermind toys. Do better!

Addendum: Further to your canned reply below. I did in fact contact customer service while I was in the store with Drew. We contacted customer service together. And, they were of zero assistance. I even spoke with a supervisor by the name of Camille. This review stands with no resolution.

Visited about a year ago. I feel as if the store was far more lively back then. It’s kinda lost something …. Since then.

Great selection of toys! Some unique toys that are hard to find other places. Prices are a bit high but usually go there for items I can’t get other places.

Good location with ample selection of toys for kids of all age groups. The service is all great with amazing gift wrapping!

DO NOT buy from here. They have a horrible return policy and terrible quality overpriced toys. I bought toys from here for Xmas for my kids and to return toys bc they were SO overpriced and defective (you can tell they’re extremely cheap toys- it was $60 for a tiny doll that doesnt sit on the seat of a cheapo horse that comes with it). Tried returning a $130 scooter that CANT TURN LEFT or RIGHT sharply (it can’t be turned on a sidewalk bend since it’s too sharp a turn). Anyways the guy refused to refund it and even had one of the adult workers there who surpassed the weight limit of the toy RIDE it and give it back to me …… they kept $130 but lost a customer with lots of kids who would’ve spent much more over the course of years at their store. They’re only shooting themselves in the foot with their bad policies and cheap overpriced toys.

Went in here a couple weeks back to purchase a pokemon card box and as soon as I entered the store there was some old lady (manager perhaps) that was on me like glue.

I sensed because I didn't meet her criteria of what a mastermind customer "should look like" or she has that mindset of anybody that looks slightly different then her is suspicious. Anyway, I had the intention of purchasing other products (being a toy and card collector) but the feeling and vibe she gave off was very off-putting. Wanted to get in and out as soon as possible based on that lady. Wont be going back here, even though I do find there selection of products to be great.

Terrible customer service on all levels. Head office did not even return my phone call when I called to launch a complaint. Although we used to be big fans of the product selection, we will not return. I have actually received better service from Amazon when I’ve had issues.

I was in a week ago looking for gifts for my nephew's and I was able to find lots of great ideas. So much in store for everyone. At the end I had an employee help me find something else, Reign, she was wonderful, polite and knew where everything was! I would shop again for toys at this store!

We utilized the curbside pick up option when we obtained our gifts. The entire process was seamless; from ordering online to picking up the packages; they even gift wrapped them!

Rowan was such a great help!

I came in clueless on what to get for my cousin’s 5th birthday expecting to spend thirty minutes in a toy store and Rowan was able to find me the perfect gift!

I was in and out of the store within minutes with my gift wrapped and ready to go!

The variety of toys they have here is great! Definitely my favourite toy store. The location is also convenient.

I went to Mastermind Toys today to purchase gifts for my nephew and nieces. I've been there before to purchase toys for our own children. I wasn't really sure what to buy, so I approached one of the associates and she asked if I needed help. She spent quite some time with me, showing me several different options.

After paying for my purchases, she gift wrapped them too (that's a great service). I asked her to choose the colours of the wrapping as she probably would know better.

I got home and remembered that I did not remove the price tags. I opened one of the wrapped gifts and saw that she had covered the price tag with a sticker prior to wrapping it!
This was a wonderful shopping experience.

Over priced toys and they do not accept CASH My kids had bday $$ and couldn’t use (I didn’t have my card on me).

Had the most delightful experience shopping for puzzles and a bubble machine. Kim was very knowledgeable and new exactly what we wanted. Kim offered us the opportunity to pick up some hand held devices since we had spent a fair bit. How did she know that it was exactly what I was looking for? Needed to make a return and exchange on 2 items. Kim remembered us from our first visit and ensured that the product exchanged was checked to ensure no missing puzzle pieces. Kim was very friendly, courteous and had excellent customer service skills. She engaged with us during our whole visit. Please take a moment to congratulate this fine associate for willingly going the extra mile for us and offering outstanding service. Highly recommend the Waterloo store and their staff, especially Kim. Thank you!

Often good stuff. Wish they had a better early childhood book selection, but it varies. Nice staff.

Love this place. They have a good selection of interesting toys and games for kids to around 13 or so. Also have free gift wrapping.

Came in with my little sister. What a massive toy store! Awesome items but my favorite part was the staff. A young girl and guy. I told them it was her birthday, and secretly bought her a rather expensive Slime kit. They wrapped it up for me at no charge, and even sang happy birthday to her as she opened it up in the store! It was SO kind, they went above and beyond for her and she was SO excited that "they" got her a gift (yeah, I let her think it was the staff, she thought I told them so, they got credit for that one). Id come here again just knowing how kind they are. Thanks for making her day special!

This is a great place to buy toys and games, the staff is helpful and understands your needs.
If you're intending to go to buy books, then the collection is limited and can improve on their collection of authors, titles and genres.
But for games and entertainment, nice pick!

As I entered the store it was so colourful and huge with an amazing array and selection. Staff took me directly to what I had inquired about. Very helpful and free gift wrapping. It was a great experience. Prices were comparable to other places. I would recommend this store.

We were very excited to get a birthday email for our daughter who got to go in and pick out a free beanie boo! We purchased more stuff as well and were in a rush to see her birthday movie.and there were two staff working two cash registers and there were only two customers, one with each. But they both stood wrapping gift, after gift, after gift. We were almost late for our movie. I couldn't believe they didnt have one person doing cash and another to wrap. It's nice to know they have free wrapping tho.

Bought a game for a leap pad and realized it wasnt compatible. They would not return it because the box was open. I could understand if the box was torn open. If this is their policy they should tell you when you make your purchase. I will never by from this over priced store again.

A good variety of types of toys and games, but not a great selection within each type. Their toys and games are good, but might be hard to find kust the right one.

Lots of great products, lots of good educational things too. The only reason I didn't do 5 stars is that many things are a bit pricey. Staff are always very friendly and helpful too.

Its a decent kids toys chain store. There is variety depending on age groups and pricing can start from under $10 for something very small and rise high into many 100s. Good location of this particular store at King and Weber. Staff is friendly and looking to help.

Great selection of toys for children. You will find toys that you would not necessarily find at Walmart and toys r us. Lot of learning and toys for fine motor, sensory and imaginative play. They offer free wrapping as well. Good customer service.

It is really amazing to see so many options and colours of everything! The staff was also extremely nice while we went ro go check out and the place is kept clean which is always a bonus. The prices all jump alk over the place from 10 to over 200 dollars but just depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for something that is popular or unique this is the place to go!

There is such a great selection, and just like other Mastermind locations, the staff is cheerful and always willing to help.
From board games, to magic tricks, books, and playmobil. There is so much to choose from, the kids will not be dissapointed

Mastermind stores, in general are a lot of fun. I struggle a bit with this one as the store is on the smaller side and the aisles seem really narrow in spots.
They do carry TONS of stuff though and their book selection is fantastic.
The staff are also really great!
