Price for kids over 7 years old are adult $44+ hst are over price. Kids under 12 can’t eat that much. $44 for kids can go to regular Japanese restaurants for sushi. Food are good but price are over charge for kids.

We were regular customers, but I would not go back. The food quality and service are so poor. It is not recognizable. It was our favorite place for the Japanese food before, but unfortunately I am so disappointed. We all had a food poisoning after visiting them, I would not recommend them anymore.

Had Teppanyaki all you can dinner with a small group of 7, comprehensive teppanyaki set menu with additional order of anything you like, with Sushi, Sashimi, Susahi rolls, hand rolls, you name it! Very good food quality and 2 hours time limit flies by and defintely will come back again! Also worth mentioning is excellent validation of double vaccination requirement for all guest adding safety to everyone with excellent table distance setting arrangement for different group of guests!

Lady on the phone talked to fast and I couldn’t understand what she was saying. Only that they do reservations and that are full and recommended another location.

Few things to note about this restaurant:
When you sit down, they give you the all you can eat menu by default. Ask for the a la carte menu for sushi, tepenyaki and such.
At the time of my visit, they do not have a drinks menu. Just ask! They have a good selection of Japanese alcohol.
In your party, you either do everybody all you can eat or everybody a la carte. No mixies!
If you are going on a Saturday, make sure you make an appointment!
Tepenyaki chefs at this restaurant put on a pretty standard (and entertaining) tepenyaki show.

The food was fantastic! We loved sitting at the grill, you get to try a bit of everything and then order more of your favorites.
The only reason this is a 3 star and not a 5, the service. It was a struggle to get drinks and other menu items. It seemed other tables were getting served faster as they were sat and had drinks immediately. We were not sure what was going on.
Overall, I'd go back and hope the service was due to understaffed.

If there's a minimum spend per head ($30/person if ordering from al la cart), or there's a mandatory tip (15%), you should have told your customers in advance. None of those fees are being told to us until we sat down. We didn't know about the mandatory tip until we were ready to pay (btw, the service wasn't even that good). The food was okay but with the amount of money we spent, we could have gone elsewhere for a more enjoyable time.

I don’t know why i only found out about this place but it was AMAZING! It sucks that they only open from 3: 00pm. The food tastes amazing. Staff was friendly, washroom was clean. Would definitely come back again

Terrible custoer service; they add a mandatory 15% tip to your bill without letting you know ahead of time. It's not mentioned anywhere on their site either. Food was meh and wasn't worth $52 per person.

Extremely rude manager as she not only does not honour prices shown on their website but she talks to her customers very poorly with no respect. Along with not wanting to honour the price for us even though it was a $2 dollar difference on each person she just got us not to pay the 20% mandatory tip added to our bill as that came out of her employees pocket and not hers. She clearly does not value her customers nor her employees. I felt attacked at the store when I had an issue with the pricing and was really disrespected. Will never come back here again because they truly don’t care about their customers.

Good food, fast service, decent menu, BUT.the it was ruined by 15% service charge they forcibly put on the bill without asking or letting us know (3 of us at the table). They serve can pops, which are free refills but they hush about it so they don't have to give away so many cans. Management better fix these.it's not like they are the only ones serving all-you-can-eat, won't go back

Decent sushi and cooked foods. Servers are nice, and time from ordering to getting the food is really quick. Price is decent for post-pandemic (maybe not even changed from pre-pandemic)

Honestly this place is the best AYCE I've experienced in TO/GTA to date. It's almost on another level. Not only is the variety much more vast than all others but the quality and presentation is even better. Also the service was quite good and fast. Honestly Im shocked at some of these bad reviews. They don't add up at all. I was here last week and I wldidnt expect an AYCE place to be overall this good and it's absolutely worth paying $10 more here than other places. They also have superior selections of fine beers and quality coctails and Asahi in many forms which is my fave beer and much better than Sapporo.

Price is okay, and it's always busy but the food is tasty with good service. Above average AYCE quality and one thing that was cool is that it's one of the few sushi restaurants that serve sashimi on ice, keeping the fish fresh. We've returned here many times, including for parties. I recommend a reservation. One thing I thought was really weird was a huge group outside on foldable furniture put together. The "patio" experience, if you could call it that, really looks more like lawn chairs in a parking lot (which it was). There is outdoor dining but there's no enclosures or a real patio setup. The pandemic has made us adapt, but it just didn't look great compared to inside where the atmosphere is much nicer. I would still recommend.

Pre-pandemic, this was a great place to go to. Portions were on par with other AYCE sushi places with above average quality. My very recent visit was disappointing. The sashimi portions were 1/4 to 1/2 the size of other comparable AYCE sushi places. Same goes for the other non-sushi items such as their yakitori. Ordered four skewers, and although we received four, the size really amounted to one skewer anywhere else. All is not bad. Their tempura shrimp was as large if not larger than other AYCE joints. Service was indifferent. One server, who seems to be new, was not helpful at all when asked about a particular item. Additionally, they now include a tip in their bill (Only two of us dining). When asked if we could have this recalculated and allow us to decide the tip amount, we were told "No". I will give this place another try, as I truly hope that this was a bad night.

Terrible service, rude staff, they clearly don’t need customers.
Called them to make a reservation, and the woman was exceptionally rude and told us to look for other restaurants.
Honestly, these are the kind of places that COVID should shut down as opposed to the hard working places that made people want to come back.

I have been attending this place since 2014 and I have to say the quality has really improved for the worst. The meats had zero flavour as per my friend and same with the ramen, which has been my all time favourite in the past.the service was also not good. We walked out with $100 damage and the 15% tip was added to the bill. The service wasn’t worthy of 10% let alone 15%.

Terrible customer service, my friend and I went for dinner and it's a hour and half before they close. They told us all you can eat no longer offered. That's fine we order their normal menu but funny enough they gave us nothing but left over, they charge us more than all you can eat price.on top the sashimi wasn't even fresh. I will never go back to this restaurant over my dead body. They even asked why we give so little tip. I'm like are you for real. You have the audacity to even ask for tip when you gave us no service at all.

SCUMMY BUSINESS PRACTICE. We came on New Year's Eve 2018 at 4: 30 PM.

When we arrived, the hostess informed us that pricing will adhere to weekend pricing. It is a Monday but also NYE so it makes sense. When we started ordering, the tablet was set to the cheaper weekday menu. Did not think much of it until after we paid, the manager informed us that the tablet was not updated and if we wanted, we can order the premium items. By that time, we were full. We witnessed the manager pull the same stunt on the couple next to us so I believe this to be no accident. It is a deceptive cost saving tactic disguised as a hardware glitch.

When we were done with the sushi and ordered deserts, it never came. We asked a staff member about it and she "accidentally" closed the bill. If the first stunt was not done, I would have reasoned this to be an accident. But the bill was closed and when we informed we were not done, she said it was last call.

It is a shame that Matsuda's business practices are scummy. The food is good although the wait is long.

Been to both restaurants for this chain and I can say for certain that the food and fresh and extremely tasty. I come here for almost every occasion and it's very easy and fast to make reservations.

I am typically a fan of this Matsuda, however having had a recent negative experience at their Steeles location (posted as 80guitarguy) I am giving this location a negative review as well for not ensuring that there is consistency in their franchise.

They have a lot of variety and many unique roles that not many other places have. We went on a Thursday night during mid-December and it was extremely busy! We had a reservation however we very long in the beginning until the food started coming out. Towards the end they picked up the pace however I was somewhat disappointed that it was slow in the beginning I would recommend this place however it would probably best enjoyed if it wasn't so busy.

Vegan and vegetarian friendly. The staff accommodated my vegan request and ensured I was well feed! The rice in soft tofu she'll is very different, great texture and taste!

Went there to have tappanyaki lunch. It was terrible, the cod was under cook. We told the so called chef but he pretend he did not hear us. All he needs to do is to put yhe dam fish back on the hot plate to cook it! Half of the cod fish portion can not be eaten.
The sirloin steak that we had are so well done and tough! Why ask us how we want our steaks cooked then!
The customer service is so so. Hard to get services only a couple waitress working.
At the end, we found out our bill also include a 15% service charge.
Definitely will not go back.

Matsuda is definitely one of my staple AYCE Japanese Restaurants. Food itself is very good, although service would be called acceptable. Overall I would definitely say an above average recommendation if you're in the mood for AYCE Japanese Food.

Best sushi in the entire GTA. Mango sushi is my favourite but what I loved the most of the size of their sushi. Doesn't fill you up after just 4 pieces. My 4 yo girl loved the teriyaki chicken and most sushi platters

A large extensive menu especially with the teppanyaki side. Staff here is fun and friendly but keep in mind it does get very busy and may not always respond right away. The service overall is good and food gets served quick there is quite a show for the teppanyaki side and allows you to go for round 2 (if youre still hungry after a full order plus sushi orders). The dessers come in mini bowls or shot glassss and i highly recommend mango yogurt or the ginger milk (reallly strong ginger taste). Pricing is around $40 for the grill experience and ayce aspect.

I always look forward to Matsuda especially this location because I've always had a great experience here so it's sad to say I'm never going to an ayce sushi place ever again, let alone Matsuda. Considering that I live right across from their Steeles location I trek to this location because it has better overall quality from my previous experiences. However, my recent experience just about killed it for me. All the "hot" foods were room temperature, including the over battered tempura. The rolls were poorly made where it consisted about 80% rice and it was falling apart which of course led to us losing appetite to finish them. My boyfriend and I usually make one big order and that's it but we seriously couldn't finish it because the food was pretty bad. So when the manager came up to confront us about it my boyfriend simply just apologized and told her to charge us extra. And here is where I started to get angry. She was just so rude about it, we already apologized despite her rude confrontation and she continued to belittle us even after we payed the bill. I still hear her loud and clear. "What happened? What happened here? Customer service is very important to us so we don't like to do this but this is TOO much. TOO MUCH! " "We will pay extra, sorry. " "TOO MUCH! TOO MUCH! " And she just stares at our leftovers and goes "15 dollars! " So we agreed and she turned around and shouted to the server waiting to make our bill and was like "JUST CHARGE THEM 15 DOLLARS". This brings me to want to point out a previous review that also has the manager just spit balling prices. Like we left 10 sad broken rolls, that's a lot yes but they were barely even sushi. After we payed the bill and were putting on our jackets she came back out and gave us the SAME lecture, and she said "Next time don't order so much. " Well thank you for your concern, but we aren't coming back. I was being mature and instead of stuffing the leftovers into crevices we just owned up to wasting food and the manager felt like she needed to humiliate us in front of all the other customers. Thank you for ruining Matsuda for me, never coming back!

Try the Teppenyaki over sushi. But if you have to have sushi it's good too! Nice selection and fresh. I live in the very west end, it's a good choice to have dinner with friends.

Fast and accurate service. Customer service is lacking, as it didn’t appear to be enough staff for the occasion. Food was average for ayce and nothing memorable that would make me want to return.

Great food and great staff. Went with a party of 10 and despite the fact that they had a full house and at least 5 birthdays that night they were great. Winston our waiter really did a good job of serving our sushi and taking our order. We got exactly what we ordered and very quickly almost within minutes of after we ordered. He was super friendly and very accommodating, when we wanted to order more we simply pointed at the plate and he knew right away to get us the same dish. Aaron our chef for table cooking was just amazingly skillful with his tools and my family and I ate like pampered royalty. He even put on a good show for us and my niece really enjoyed his showmanship. The staff may come across as impolite but don't let that stop you from visiting this place. They are extremely busy but just as hard-working and that itself needs to be recognized. Thank you Matsuda staff for making my dad's birthday such a great night. My entire family enjoyed the night and we look forward to seeing you guys again!

Had the Set Teppanyaki dinner (cod, steak, shrimp and chicken) and while the flavour of everything that was served was great, the portions were incredibly small for the price (as compared to the previous management). People who ordered the all you can eat version were receiving their food significantly faster and we ended up sitting there with empty plates for at least 15 minutes before being served the next portion. When we asked to switch to the all-you-can-eat and pay extra, the server flat out refused and walked away. Overall service was very slow - had to ask for water twice & it took them 15 min to bring it. If you're going to eat here, get all-you-can eat to make your $40/person worth it.

Reserved seats on a Saturday night for 6 people with AYCE Teppanyaki.

We arrived on time and were seated promptly. Have tried several AYCE Teppanyaki‘ so we have some benchmarks heading in.

The staff were all very kind and a nice touch was that they would put plastic wrappers over your coats so they don’t get dirty and not smell since the smells could definitely seep into the winter jackets.

Overall, the food was at a very high quality. There were some disappointments like the cold mussels but on the other hand, the sushi was awesome and the Teppanyaki quality was some of the best we’ve tried. The quality of the food can vary by chef at times too aside from the base quality but we were all very satisfied at the end of the meal.

The only reason why I docked a star is because there was little to no showmanship on our occasion. Other than a shrimp train, there wasn’t the onion volcano which seems like a standard and aside from that, there wasn’t much interaction with our chef. Usually they would do the egg toss too or get one of us to go up and try but there was none of that.

The staff on the other hand were amazing. The manager that night, Vincent, definitely gave us 5 Stars service and it’s because of this kind of service and quality of food that would keep bringing us back. Looking forward to our next visit and anyone looking for a good value AYCE Teppanyaki; this is definitely worth checking out. As always with restaurants; YMMV.

I have been coming to Matsuda since it opened. They even gave me a VIP discount card since I’m a very regular. I WILL NEVER GO AGAIN! TERRIBLE SERVICE! Will go to Robo Sushi who has AMAZING service with their adorable robots serving you and great food. And it’s just a couple of minutes closer to me on York Mills, not far from Matsuda so I still am getting great sushi in my same area.
The last 3 visits have been horrendous. Actually since they switched to IPad ordering. You’d think that would make them better but NO, they sunk.
Right away we noticed the portion sizes had been cut in half. Not sure why they do that cuz it’s an All You Can Eat place. You’re just going to order more and keep them busier than need be. Aside from that, they started making their maki rolls with more rice and the fish inside so small you need a magnifying glass to see it. The beef short ribs have also been cut down in size along with everything else but the beautiful part to that is, it’s all fat and no meat.
The thing that pushed me over the edge though was the service. I’ve always loved the service cuz one of the managers and two of the waitresses always recognize me and used to go out of their way to serve me. Unfortunately they cannot be working every time I go. It so happened, the first 2 of my bad experiences with the service were saved by the regular staff that knows me. So, I gave them another chance. BIG MISTAKE! But the 3 rd was a beauty. I ordered spicy salmon rolls along with a few other items. Service was really slow but we eventually got everything we ordered except the spicy salmon rolls. After we finished eating everything else, we sat and waited for the rolls. We waited 45 mins and still nothing. I called a waitress over and told her to check on them. Another 15 minutes went by and still nothing.
At which point I was pissed. I told my friend, I was done with this place and was leaving a big fat 0 tip cuz this was ridiculous. The manager overheard and came over to ask if everything is ok. I explained about my sushi. She gave no apology AT ALL. Said she would go check and another 15 mins later, we got our sushi.
Now it was time to pay. We had gone for lunch, so I gave the manager my 10% VIP discount card and she had the NERVE to hand it back and tell me the discount is only good at dinner time, not lunch.
I’m sorry but if a VIP customer. A loyal one, who has been going there since the very beginning and quite regularly is upset. You should at LEAST apologize if you have any customer service or people skills at all. Normal people would not charge for the meal at ALL cuz the customer is so upset. But the last thing that manager should have done was not give the 10% discount as a courtesy.
I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN! I have referred so many people there over the years. I have told them all to go to Robo Sushi on York Milks close to Don Milks just a few minutes away from Matsuda.

Went for lunch all you can eat. We ordered a grilles salmon head in our first order that was placed at 12: 03pm. The waitress advised us that it would take 30mins wait to cook. We agreed because we were going to eat there for about an hour. It was 12: 41 and it hadn’t come yet and we asked to follow up with the waitress. She said it got lost somehow or it didn’t show up so she said an additional 15mins. We said sure. Now its 1: 10pm and it never came. My mom was so upset because she really wanted to eat it. We just ended up cancelling the whole thing because we were already eating dessert. My own dessert never even came so I just gave up on that too. Other than that, the food was okay, lunch menu is pretty small compared to a place like Sushi Legend where they have more options.

I took my mother here for her birthday and it was her first time going to anything like this. I’ve seen the reviews how the cook does a great show and does these cool little tricks while cooking. I waited. I didn’t see anything. All he did was cook the food normally and that was it. I’m so disappointed. The food was good but the main reason I chose this place is because of the little cooking show. But that didn’t happen. So if anyone is looking for that when they think of japenese steakhouse, this is not the place.
