This place has a great selection and you can find things you don't in other places. The prices are really high, so I expect good quality. Deli is up to it, and I am happy with it. But I bought a couple of desserts from the bakery. One was an apple pie, and it smelled of having been in the freezer for months and it was a bit stale. The other was a piece of cake, with the borders hard, as if it had been cut a few days ago and dried on the surface. For the price, I expect much better quality than stale frozen cakes.
One of the better grocery stores in Toronto. Better selection of bread compared to other stores in this class. Too touris-sy as many people just come and look and get in the way. But otherwise OK.
After a decade of being a loyal customer, I've watched McEwan's prices soar to new heights since COVID hit. It's almost like they're playing a game of "Let's see how much we can charge our faithful customers! " A plain old bottle of orange juice? That'll be $19.45, please. And don't get me started on their extravagant bouquets at a mere $65. I guess I've just become their personal ATM. Alas, I'll have to pass on future shopping sprees here.
Great quality of produce and other products It has cooked food and outdoor setting area if you wanna have a meal at the store. Meat products are also the best. Not a complete store like selection of coffee is not enough for me. Staff are ok. Price is up than other store. Service is great. Parking is nearby. I think they do catering too.
I love the store and the experience but the staff is VERY uptight and RUDE. Anytime I asked for an item or directions it was like I was begging them for help and the constant eye roll and straight faces made the visits unpleasant. This could be a great shop of the staff was a bit more cheerful to ALL TYPES of patrons that enter the store. Very unprofessional
It’s a high-end grocer so expect prices to be higher than normal (though if you look right, you might be surprised some things are pretty reasonable).
However, anything that’s difficult to find in any regular grocery store, I can find it here - spices, herbs, pasta, cheese, international cuisine! Even their specialty desserts and pre-made food are
Great quality food and produce with lots of different variety In flavors and haven't come across much things that are expired soon like some other common cheaper brands that are expiring in days. With that being said it comes at a higher price.
Store layout = 1 star = Hated it. Choosing to block access to other items with barricades and forcing people to turn around and go back to get to items is very thoughtless. Thankfully I have no mobility issue but nevertheless. I decided to respect their barrier and proceeded to check out rather than backtrack to purchase more items = lost sales for Mark McEwan. Have a nice day.
High quality but brutally expensive. I also have issue with McEwan bottled water. Why are you destroying your own city with plastics which have your name on it. I'm glad most of your products are locally sourced buy saddened that you use plastic. Go to glass or stop selling water. Toronto has fantastic tap water we do not need you to bottle it in plastic for us. Why don't you sell refillable bottles with toronto tap water refill stations. Yes bottled water is no brainer profit. It also is a no brainer destroyer of our earth
Wonderful selection of gourmet products and friendly staff, but management should strongly consider moving away from those thick glossy plastic bags at the check-out. The plastic mesh placed around each of my tomato sauce jars was well intentioned, but aren’t these exactly the sort of thing that wildlife and fish will eventually get stuck in? A great company like McEwan should be leading the way towards a more environmentally sustainable future!
Fun place - even if just browsing. But a killer selection of hot sauces, and an amazing assortment of spices. Not many places seem to carry Berbers spice. Now I don't have to make my own.
My mom bought me some cupcakes from McEwan’s for my birthday, and although they were very pretty looking they were ROCK HARD and STALE! How disappointing that a well-known chef Mark McEwan sells old stale cupcakes in his bakery…I was absolutely disappointed as they were completely inedible. Would not recommend.
Takeout poke bowl was horrible! The sushi rice was more like rice cake. The fundamental basics of sishi is the rice texture and consistency. I expect better!
Small but really fancy grocery store, the only problem is I am so broke. Ignore the price tag this is the place for a great chef. If you have passion for cooking with high standards materials this is the place you have to visit.
Excellent selection of sourdough breads and amazing cuts of meat. Very friendly cahiers and helpful, seemingly satisfied store clerks. Favorite gourmet store!
