Extremely Disappointing Experience with McPhailures of Harriston

I took my RV to McPhails of Harriston for insurance work after a squirrel infestation. As they were a dealer for my RV brand, I expected them to restore the unit to factory quality standards. Unfortunately, my experience with McPhails has been nothing short of a nightmare.

Initially, my insurance assured me that the unit would undergo a thorough teardown, disinfection, and replacement of insulation, including any fabrics that the squirrels had come into contact with. However, upon requesting a copy of the completed work, I discovered that the wiring had not been fully inspected. This was especially concerning as I knew the squirrels had chewed on numerous wires throughout the roof, having made their home in the ceiling and HVAC system.

Furthermore, it turned out that the squirrels had managed to accumulate a substantial collection of black walnuts throughout the unit, which were left untouched by the supposed restoration process. The service manager's response to my concerns was dismissive and condescending, leaving me frustrated and disheartened.

I received zero communication during the repair process, despite several attempts to communicate with both insurance and McPhails. The only time responses were received was after sending the communication 3+ times and requiring a read/delivered receipt. Phone communication doesn't cut it when you seek to have things communicated in writing.

Reluctantly, I picked up my unit after being threatened with accruing storage fees. My fears were confirmed upon inspection. The venting into the furnace had been left disconnected, black walnuts were still scattered throughout the interior, and the unit hadn't even been properly vacuumed out. To make matters worse, there were remnants of wires and debris in the underbelly, and areas damaged by the squirrels in the pantry and around the base of interior cabinets had been left untouched.

When I approached both McPhails and my insurance company regarding these issues, I was met with a complete lack of accountability. The blame was passed back and forth, leaving me out of pocket and responsible for finishing the job that McPhails was entrusted with.

Perhaps the most disheartening aspect of this whole experience was the attitude displayed by the service manager. Dealing with her was an exercise in frustration, as she consistently spoke down to me and displayed a condescending demeanor. I dreaded making any calls to discuss the problems, fearing the disrespectful treatment I would inevitably receive.

In conclusion, if you're looking to be bullied, spoken down to, and have subpar workmanship performed on your vehicle, I wholeheartedly recommend contacting McPhails of Harriston. They have shown a complete lack of professionalism, failed to deliver on their promises, and left me to deal with the aftermath of their negligence. Save yourself the headache and seek out a more reputable and customer-centric establishment for your RV repairs.

We were leaving on vacation and discovered a tail light on our trailer wasn't working. Our local dealer was too busy to help. McPhail's was on the way to our camping destination so I contacted them and they said to drop by and they would fix the problem. Which they did; promptly, at a great price and very quickly. Their staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the pricing is very fair. Their parts store is amazing and we found some items we wanted and bought them on the spot. I just wish McPhail's was closer! Thanks.

We traded in and purchased a brand new trailer at McPhails. The sales guy was good to deal with initially. Once we received the trailer we had warranty issues right off the go. We booked and took trailer in and had many issues with very very poor communication on how repair was going and no date of how long repairs would take. This has continued now for a year. Warranty work that they said they completed and repaired was not after our last visit and we have given up. We will not extend our warranty as its not worth the hassle of dealing with very poor service. We will NEVER ever purchase a trailer from this dealership and have made it known to anyone that ask us about our experience. We are very understanding people but when you make such a large purchase you hope to at least have good service and understand things don't come perfect but you hope the people you are working with will have an understanding of customer service and timing manor of responding to customers. Buyer beware is the advice I have for this dealership.

Picked up a new R POD travel trailer today. Very pleased with Scott our sales rep and Brady the RV Technician. Scott took the time to listen to our needs and made helpful suggestions as well as advice on RV accessories to complete our package. Brady walked us through all the systems on the unit and answered all our questions. Very pleasant sales experience. Highly recommend McPhail's of Harriston.

We use McPhails to sell and service our motorhome. We have been purchased two Tiffin units and had them serviced over 17 years. The quality of pre and post sale service was excellent. When you buy an RV buy from the company that you have service it. And before buying check their service references. When you are on the road and your slide-outs fail, or the hydraulic stabilization will not come up you want a Service company that works with you to get you back on the road. That is McPhails.
You can buy for less online, but then what?
A motor home is only as good as the service centre that cares for it.

I purchased a new Coachmen Catalina from McPhails at the end of 2017. I had a few issues with the trailer and cover upon purchase, but McPhails has been great to address the issues in a timely manner. So far, I am pleased with how issues have been dealt with by the service department, as it is frustrating to have any issues at all when buying new. As of October 2021, I am pleased with how they have dealt with things. I will update this post regularly. Keep up the good customer service McPhails.

McPhail's always has my back! Excellent staff, they got me back on the road twice when I needed help. Without even booking an appointment they fixed me up! You guys are great, I will alway recommend McPhail's!

We stated over the phone that we did not authorize the sealing to be on the work over and not to do it when we called to follow up if the trailer had been looked at yet.

Yes the battery was not on the work order, as my original post stated, it died while in your care.

Original post: Terrible service. Brought rv in for an electrical issue, and they sealed the trailer for leaks instead, even after they were told not too. An outrageously expensive bill for service that wasn't requested. Did not even seal the entire trailer.   Electrical issue wasn't solved. Battery died. Waited a week longer than the booked service date for it to be looked at. Would give zero stars if that was an option. Extremely disappointed.

Good experience. Only came in for a grill a dog and pie iron. Called before hand and the staff were pleasant and helpful, upon arrival they remembered our call and quickly directed us to what we wanted. Would recommend.

Looked at campers. We looked at several and no one came out to help us, assist us or to answer any questions we had. Not very good customer service.

Once again McPhails RV has come thru for us.
Brad is the absolute BEST technician ever for our Allegro motor home. He knows RV's inside and out and goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect.
Tony is the new Service Manager, and is doing an awesome job in these difficult covid times. He is easy to talk to, very knowledgeable, and makes us feel like we are important.
Thanks again Brad and Tony.

Exceeded expectations! RV dealers and RVs get a bad rap and most deserve it. I went in purchasing my NOBO eyes wide open and not expecting much in terms of quality or service. The crew at McPhail's have been awesome. From Steve through the sales experience to Brian in after sales service and support they have been fantastic. I had a known issue with one of the aftermarket awnings that came on my trailer. Brian and Steve made sure i was taken care of and dealt with RhinoRack directly to get me the necessary clips. It's worth the drive to Harriston. I would highly recommend.

Fantastic service from the sales department! Steve Martin was our salesperson and he made everything easy and painless. The rest of the staff we met were very helpful and genuinely friendly. The trailer was perfect at delivery and we're super happy to have it. We definitely will deal here, again, in the future.

Called to inquire about getting our trailer serviced, the receptionist was the most miserable piece of work I have talked to in a while, she put me through to 'service' where her twin sister picked up the phone, who was just as miserable and snooty. They lost this customer at hello.

While the initial sales service was a five star experience in 2018, the events to come were less than adequate. The trailer leaked from day one, took it in for repair back to Macphail’s of Harrison, they kept it over the winter told me it was fixed, turns out the leak went from one place to another where it took about a year to show through the floor. When I called Macphail’s they basically told me it was my fault and my responsibility and to call the insurance company, not to mention I purchased every possible warranty offered. Now I am stuck with having to pay out of pocket for another repair for the same initial problem it went back for in the first place on a $37,000 unit. They didn’t even offer to look at it to investigate.they sure offered to do the repairs after it was investigated though, also at my cost. I warn you to be careful what you purchase from this place as they take zero responsibility for anything that goes wrong in a bran new unit, after it is sold. Friendly sales absolutely does not equal quality product or quality service after it leaves there lot.

Awful service. Had a plate put on for a sliding hitch. Got the fifth wheel home and unhooked. The plate fell off and almost broke someone's foot. It wasn't even bolted on. Called to ask about getting it fixed and they hung up. Called back and they refused to fix it. NEVER trust these people.

Hi everyone! I must tell you, I am a very critical buyer. I go through things a hundred times. Well, I couldn't have been more impressed with the treatment we were given. Scott was our sales agent, and Philip was our orientation tech. They were amazing! Each time we were promised something, they kept to it. Whether it was a phone call, or things we needed done. They were very fair in our trade and retail price. I will never hesitate to deal with this company again. We are very pleased with the process from start to finish.

We made a fair deal trading and purchase of used motorhome. The staff where friendly BUT Once the deal is done and you leave, That is the end. There is no useful warranty. That was understood when I purchased but No tech support on issues is just disappointing.

We bought a new rv here and went over a bump. Slowly in a campsite the windshield cracked. The rv is under a year old and under 3000 Kim. I called my dealer and he said the windshield is not covered under warranty. This dealer put a price of 4000 plus. I called forest river and found out it is covered. I feel this dealer doesn’t back there costumer. They just collect there $.

We are very pleased with the concentration given to our repairs. The staff is very friendly and makes every effort to please their customer. They are very knowledgeable and made us very comfortable choosing them at first purchasing our rv and now in repairs. We will recommend this company to anyone looking for rv information.

Amazing experience dealing with McPhails' Parts Dept today!

I needed to purchase a replacement a water hose. Sounds simple enough, right? Not according to the other RV business in the area. McPhails made the purchase easy, quick, economical and pleasant. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff knew exactly what I needed, they had it in stock, and I was in and out of the store within minutes.

Buying a small hose was a simple transaction, but McPhails have gained a future, life long customer! 5 stars!

I purchased a trailer from McPhails in October and it had many issues so I trade it for another trailer at that location. I drove the trailer home and the microwave had come out, ottoman had to be put back on track and other minor issues.service dept.response not positive. I have multiple issues and sent pictures to Lisa Rowley, Mike Hurst and no response. I then contacted Phil McPhail and he said the pictures weren’t clear enough to see what was wrong with it. Seriously! The picture showed the cupboard door on the ground, microwave tilted, wall coming out, water leaking by slide. Terrible service and not standing by their product. Disappointed on all levels! Go elsewhere!
