Mengrai Thai

Hands down the best service I have experienced so far, at a restaurant in Toronto and it's second to none.
Special shout out to Allen, who recommended us the must try from the menu, he was very warm and funny too!
We were a group of 6, and we got recommendations, complementary starters and dessert.
In terms of food, it tasted great. We tried quite a few things, Red Thai (Tofu) curry, Pineapple Fried Rice, Green Thai curry (chicken), Drunken noodles, Mango chicken filet striped bass and complimentary mango sticky rice for dessert. I recommend trying sea bass, green curry, and pineapple fried rice.

Thanks to the Mengrai Thai team, we had an amazing experience and would surely be returning back soon!

Amazing experience at Mengrai for AsialiciousTO 2023! Not only was the food superb, but the service was top-notch. Allan was very hospitable and took the time to explain about the restaurant and recommended some dishes.

We went here before heading to Elgin theatre for a comedy show - the food is incredible. I had the lamb/peach curry with medium spice and it was one of the best curry dishes I have ever had. He had the drunken noodle and said the same. Excellent food and service. We will be back!

Just had an amazing experience at Mengrai, it was our first time and Allen (owner) treated my son like a king. He showed hom how to make a few delicious items on the menu and filled our time with wonderful stories.when the food came it was amazing.very flavorful but most importantly filled with good energy. We are grateful for the experience.

We dined here for the first time during Nuit Blanche last week. The ambiance was great! Staff were very friendly and service was fast and stellar. The food was great! This is the best Thai restaurant I have been to. We loved their chef’s special pad thai, the red curry with lychee (shrimp and chicken), the braised curry lamb and the mango salad. Presentation was impressive! Alex (if I remember correctly), the manager, goes around and chats with the customers which is really a nice touch because it made us comfortable and happy to have chosen to dine here. He also handed me a complimentary glass of white wine which was very much appreciated. I definitely recommend this place and would come back here again.

Top notch food and service! We had Mengrai cater our food for our wedding reception, and everything turned out perfect! We are vegans so had a vegan menu catered, and even our non-vegan friends were so impressed with the food! Said our reception completely changed their views on vegan food for the better! Big props to Peach, Alan and Brandon for making our event such a huge success!:)

I don’t know if it’s the two specific dishes we got but we ordered a pineapple fried rice and pad thai but there was zero flavoring. There was no salt at all and everything tasted bland. I normally don’t ever review but seeing that the place almost has like 5 stars I thought the food would taste good. Service was great and the atmosphere of the place was good too.

The quality and taste of the food has definitely gone down. I have been coming to this restaurant for over 8 years, today I was really disappointed when I hosted visiting family.they had very high expectation from my previous experiences but they were highly disappointed
Food was bland and under seasoned. Chef was kind enough to prepare it again but still the same, under seasoned and tasteless.

Possibly one of those days for the kitchen staff but I may not choose this restaurant again as my choice of place to go.

Terrible. Charges hidden gratuity fees on top of tips.

Tastes really blend, had solid msg crystals keep appearing in the food that was as hard as pebbles.

My mango rice was rock hard and when I brought it up, the server told me he would microwave it more.

This restaurant is really bad and I think the reviews are fake.

We have been here few times and every time the experience getter better than previous one - which is the best.
Fresh & Tasty food, excellent service and hospitality.

Food portions can increase a bit for the prices, but none the less its a great Thai food place.

The food has gone downhill. The texture of the pad thai was mushy and the flavour tasted weird like MSG. Food is not fresh

This place is a hidden gem! From service to food everything was over the top.

Highly recommend Mengrai Thai to anyone looking for authentic Thai food in Toronto.

Do try the lemon grass coconut soup that is served in a coconut!

Loved the atmosphere of this cozy spot. Service was capable and friendly, but perhaps overwhelmed by our party of 25+ booked more than a month in advance. Food arrived hot and was tasty, the fritter shown was quite oily and heavy, but the squash coconut soup (vegan) was my favourite of the night. It had just a little spice to it. A red curry with chicken was served in a pineapple and was quite dramatic in presentation, and had nice flavour, but was really watery. Dessert was more than enough- a small scoop of ice cream for just a sweet note.

The space is cozy and charming, but there are many worn spots on stairs and upholstery, door closures, cushions and floors. It does need some upgrades for those areas.

A word of warning: there are 4 or 5 steps up at the front door and different levels in the dining areas. If you need to consider accessibility, know in advance.

Overall, it was enjoyable and tasty.

Hosted our companies Christmas party here and had a great experience. Allen the owner was attentive and welcoming, he made a welcoming speech to our team that had everyone laughing. The food was delicious and just an all around great night!

The best food and amazing staff! Alan feels like a friend just after my first time coming to this great restaurant and I will definitely be coming more often.

Excellent choice for Thai food downtown! Crispy morning glory for starter and Braised beef entre are a must try! Oh, and sticky coconut rice with mango for dessert <3

Was our 15th anniversary. Alain the owner, with his wife Sasi (the chef), gave us champagne and a creme brule on the house.food was so full of flavor. Atmosphere was nice and quiet, we sat on cool benches with pillows, real unique. Alain the owner came and had a great chat with us. Really enjoyed our night!

Great deserts! Always a hint of surprise in all the deserts such as the fresh mango, Red Velvet so soft and juciy, with Lemongrass Creme Brulee! Also a special herbal tea at the end!

Not going to lie, walking up to Mengrai Thai, I paused. I wondered if I had the right place. I did and it was the best Thai I’ve had in quite a while. The flavour was full with just the right amount of heat. The owners are lovely. Seriously. They had a few gluten free options. One being a red curry with lychee nuts We also had the lamb with peaches, also gluten free and also delicious.

Ordered catering for a corporate event. Everyone loved it and kept asking where I had ordered from. The food was great but the mango cheese cake is to diiiiie for.

Allan (the owner) was so nice and even helped me on his day off!

Hands down the best Thai food we’ve had in Toronto! I eat only halal and that option is available on request for every item. The Sasi’s red curry inside a pineapple with their sticky rice was my absolute favourite. We experimented with different dishes and each had a unique flavour. As big time foodies, my family and I approved all of them!
Allan and Sasi (owners) are extremely polite and friendly who sat down with us to chat and we ended up having such a lovely conversation towards the end. Loved our experience and we’ll definitely be back with more friends and family!

Cozy place, very accommodating owner and most of all great food by Chef Sasi. We will definitely be back to try some more of their scrumptious and reasonably priced food. Even my kids enjoyed our experience at their restaurant.

Meal was incredibly tasty and the owner was really lovely as he engaged with each table to bring a personal touch to the meal.

Very unfortunate but we had a terrible experience with our takeout order. We ordered pad Thai and it was bland as ever.
We also ordered pineapple fried rice and the rice was very old. Very disappointing.
The only saviour dish for this restaurant was their speciality with lychee and pineapple curry.
I also ordered my dish to be made with tofu but I was given chicken instead.
Again a very disappointing experience for me.

Really great food and friendly staff. The owner, Alan, came out and talk to us for a while. Very interesting guy and we just let him create the menu for us. Good vibe. Good drinks. Good food. Highly recommended

Super restaurant Thai, excellent accueil par le propriétaire qui est passionné! Nous avons goûté le PadThai, les currys et le poisson (un bass exceptionnel) tout était parfait.

The food is even better than it looks in the photos. The owner is incredibly friendly. Delivery is prompt and you can avoid using Uber. Best Thai food I've had in Toronto. Get the cheesecake.

Best Pad Thai Noodles in town. Also enjoy the Green Curry - a balance of spice and flavours. This is my 5 time ordering so it has been consistently great. Do order ahead of time on Fri & Saturdays as Mengrai is often busy. I ordered the Vegan Mango and Raspberry Vegan Cheesecake which were very good! Also the Thai Mango Sticky Rice dessert was definitely good.

Best Thai Restaurant! The food was amazing, the owner and his wife, the chef, ‍ were super friendly. Had great conversations with them and they showed us that a lot of famous people have been visiting this place!

My friends ordered food from here and they are terrible, Pad Thai is so bland, can't feel the tamarind flavor.

Best Thai food I have ever tried. The service was amazing. Such a wonderful experience, I would bring all my friends there. The menu had many options, the dishes were quite large and had so much flavour. I will keep going back to try everything on that menu.

Literally the best Thai restaurant in the city. Foods are all fresh and authentic, not too oily. And this place is super friendly to people with food allergies, so considerate! We ordered the Thai fried rice with extra beef, the rices and all the ingredients are so dewy and fresh. And chef Sasi special Pad Thai noodle, I would definitely rate it 10/10! It tasted mushy with a bit of sweet and sour. I believe that I will definitely order it again and again, and will never get tired of it. For dessert, we had coconut sticky rice with fresh mango. Tbh, before the dessert, I was really full. But after the first spoon of the sticky rice, ok, I cannot stop myself because there’s always room for dessert. Personally, I can just sit there and have it all day lol.
If you are in this neighborhood, Mengrai Thai is the truly hidden gem here that you cannot miss out on!

I was not expecting this hole in the wall type of restaurant to exceed my expectations. I recently moved to the neighbourhood and I walked in to dine alone. Allen, the owner, was able to serve me without a reservation. You can tell he truly cares about his customers. He even kindly made me a lychee martini - on the house - which was super thoughtful of him! Food and ambiance was great - def bringing my family here. Thank you Allen for being so accommodating:)

Celebrating our #freedom to eat out - by spending our first indoor restaurant meal enjoying Sasi's extraordinary fare. The tasting menu is a must - both for the food and the value. Allan, his family and his staff always accommodating and entertaining. One of Toronto's best, that keeps us coming back.

This place is definitely worth 5 stars! Easily the best Thai restaurant and deserved all the praise. Chef Sasi (an Iron Chef winner) is honestly incredible with her unreal signature dishes especially the #54 Red Curry with Lychee & Pineapple and my partner loved the Crispy Beef with sweet tangy sauce with cashews with generous steamed greens. We are both addicted to her well known aka "Crack" Bass - filet of Stripe Bass in Coconut Tamarind Sauce and braised vegetables. Last but not least, we loved their staff recommendation, the Pad Kee Mau (Drunken Noodles) which was much better than what we tried in Thailand during our 6 trips there. Highly recommended if you haven't been here! Loved this photo from Mengrai 's Instagram of actor Robert Sheehan of Umbrella Academy which I am a big fan.

Great service. The filet striped bass in particular was exquisite. The green curry was okay not their best item in the menu.

The absolute best Thai restaurant in town - friendly staff, delicious food, and great ambiance (when open for dine-in)!
