Some adventurous beer choices. Not all good. Some minor variations of traditional beers would be better than gimmicks. Similarly, the food looked too fashionable for me and I eat elsewhere. Some safer options would be better.
We didn't know Hamilton at all and were -as mere tourists- a bit shocked by the rusty charm. MERIT made it all up, great own brewings & team, superbe architecture!
We really enjoyed the beers but accidentally ordered the share board which was 90% pickled things, which were all unique and tasty, only the ratio of pickled things to savory things to take a break from that acidity was a bit lacking! Order fries on the side!
Had the Cubano and the Butter Chicken sausage! Fan-freakin'-tastic! Tried all the beers! I can't say I loved them all equally, but they were all extremely well crafted with passion and precision! A must see place if you are visiting Hamilton!
Merit is certainly my favorite place to go in Hamilton for a beer.
They represent all parts of Hamilton in one place. It's the perfect amount of casual here. Quick easy food, delicious beer. Simple counter service. Almost every time we go, we bump into a friend or even make new ones.
Spent some time here and tried some of every beer they had on draft. I was impressed with the quality! Was also impressed with the staffs patience dealing with us while drunk. Should have tried the hot dogs. Pretty pricy though! The only downfall
Great communal bench style dining. Simply walk in and find a spot. Self-service at the front bar for food and drink. Speciality is beer and sausages, with a good amount of dietary alternatives. Options to sample or try flights and possibly the most unique varieties of any brewery in the area! Modern barn aesthetic with grand windows to preview the current batches of beer being made inside. Bottleshop available to take beers, packaged sausage/foods, and merch home with you.
Parking: Try along the side streets, most meter parking in the city is free or cheap on evenings and weekends.
Accessibility: Everything is ground floor and wheelchair accessible with double doors. Wide open space and bench seating easily accommodates wheelchairs at the ends of tables. Wonderful atmosphere, keep in mind the open design nature of the space can get a bit over stimulating for anyone with sensory issues.
I really enjoy Merit. The business of the location is a testament to the good beer, good food, and good service. If you can't find a spot just take it as a sign of a good place and don't get upset! Just come back. Communal seating isn't for everything but to be honest, good beer is meant to bring us together. Embrace the culture, enjoy the food. Cheers! This is a great place.
Went for their In the Dead of Winter meal and it was absolutely fantastic. Food and drink pairings went really well, and the ambiance was exactly what they were going for.
Been a few times to Merit and I've gotta say the service and quality is and always has been top notch. All servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the products.oh, and the products were fantastic!
Great beer makers, excellent service. I really look forward to stopping by this place. Gave good recommendations and they have some shortie cans! The Way to Go beer is top notch.
