As a Canadian book publisher, specializing in Canadian history, culture, and nostalgia, I once met with Charles Heintzman, a descendant of Heintzman & Co.founder Theodor August Heintzman, at his Bedford Park home in Toronto, regarding a potential authoritative history of the celebrated Canadian piano manufacturer. The Heintzman and Steinway founders, emigrating from Germany in 1850, may have crossed the Atlantic on the same ship. During our meeting, Heintzman praised the company’s Type A and Type O models. It was my good fortune recently to purchase a Heintzman Type A from the Merriam Pianos-Robert Lowrey Showroom in Toronto, one of Canada’s great piano stores, a large and brilliant gallery of the highest-quality acoustic and digital pianos.
