My children have attended Merriam group piano lessons for years. Michelle Dizon runs a well organized class. She is patient with all the students and does a great job keeping the class progressing together. I've been really impressed with the structure of the lessons and multiple opportunities to perform in front of small and large groups. From the very first lesson the students are playing, learning theory and composition. I love that they not only focus on playing classical music, but jazz as well. Highly recommend for parents looking for a well-rounded experience for their kids.

Both my kids have been going to solo piano lessons at Merriam school of music with Mr Collin Makariak for more than a year now. Collin has been patient, kind and supportive of both my kids learning and he adjusts to their individual styles of learning. Bought a piano and my son is taking lessons here. We are enjoying lessons with Ms Alana Merriam very much. She is strict, yet friendly, encouraging, edifying, composed and organised. Love that she helps students to excel in the manner a piano piece should be played than just being able to play it. Brian was very knowledgeable and was able to recommend an upright piano that exactly suits our needs. The school also offer monthly and periodic opportunities for students to perform on stage.
Will really appreciate though if the school allows group students to attend make up lessons when they are unable to attend their regular lesson.

My child has been going to Merriam for piano classes for the last 10 months with Collin and has really enjoyed the experience. She’s had multiple opportunities for recitals and it’s helped her with her performance anxiety. I also particularly like the focus on ear training and composition, not just theory. The school is amazing, the staff is very helpful, when I called to inquired about the lessons the director of admission - Mr. Kannan Chandran, - really took his time to explain me what will be good for the kids and understood what I wanted for my kids. He also appointed one of the best teachers Mr. Collin Makariak. Both my kids (boy and girl) been learning piano from him since April 2022 and they have always been very happy with him and are comfortable learning with him. I have seen the improvement in my kids tremendously and the confidence level has also increased so much. Mr. Makariak has always been very accommodating with their schedule. He is very talented and we are very happy with his teaching techniques and methods.

My daughter started Vocal class with Mrs. Leyanna Redden since 2019, form key-fest-level J-1 to J-4 and now working on level- Inter-med. It is a definitely wonderful experience for her to building confidence as well as learning vocal skills. Leyanna has a very nice personality and always know how to teach student in a good way to conquer the difficulty easily.

A great music school! My son loves going to piano classes every week. Junior classes are professionally designed for young kids which includes fun activities that makes it very enjoyable for them.

Our son has been engaged in group piano lessons from the start at Merriam. Merriam’s group piano teaching environment has provided a comfortable setting for our son to progress through the Merriam program. Our son has had several different teachers during his learning career at Merriam. All of his instructors have been welcoming and have created a learning environment that our son looked forward to week in and week out. The level of musical theory versus repertoire was perhaps unusually high however the musical theory has been shown to be extremely important to learning piano. The Merriam curriculum makes learning musical theory for young children interesting. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 only due to the price point for group lessons which could be considered on the high side.

My 7 year old daughter started her group piano class with Ms. Alana in September. MS. Alana is very nice, patient, creative and we both enjoy her class. Although their class is in the evening and she is usually tired, however she never wants to miss any class, since Ms. Alana is super in combining learning materials with fun. Thank you Ms. Alana!

My 7 year old daughter has been in group class for about 6 months now and i am amazed at how much she has learned in a short period of time. She has a great group of kids in her class and an amazing teacher Ms. Alana who makes learning fun and easy, she is so great with the kids both in class and online. My daughter has been taking piano lessons that Merriam (Oakville) since she's 6, now 9 in junior level 4, I have nothing but wonderful experience with the school, and especially our teacher Ms. Alana - a passionate music educator who is strict in the most loving way, she's able to connect with her pupils and push them to progress, at the same time having fun with them.

My experience purchasing a piano with Merriam has been excellent. Boris was great. Very friendly and professional. He listened to my needs and price range and gave me several options to choose from, along with his personal recommendation. I went with his advice and purchased my Roland RP701 and I'm loving it.

About a month after, I started hearing a very distracting buzzing coming when certain keys were struck. It was driving me nuts. It kept me from wanting to practise. But I contacted Merriam and they went above and beyond to make sure that the issue would be taken care of. Within a few days a technician came by my place and fixed the problem. Easy. Done.

I'm impressed. I was originally deciding between buying a piano from Amazon and Merriam because I figured all retailers were the same. I see now that's not true. Had I gone through Amazon, I'd be on my own figuring out a solution.

Pianos are a big investment. You want these guys in your corner for both finding the right piano and on the odd chance you have any issues with it.

Our son has been taking group piano classes with Merriam School of Music for 5 years and it has been a joy watching him learn and develop his musical skills. He has always had great teachers who have made the classes fun and engaging. Most recently he has been completing his Intermediate classes with Ms. Michelle Dizon who has been a great online teacher through the pandemic. She has managed to continue to engage and inspire our son, allowing us to continue this after-school activity when all others were cancelled. Michelle is a dedicated, hard-working, knowledgeable and kind teacher who has been consistent and professional throughout the challenges of the past couple of years. We truly appreciate all her efforts!

My both daughters Grace and Anna are under Ms Michelle’s group pianos classes since Junior 1. Girls have been enjoying so much fun and wonderful time all along their journey on music. Ms Michelle is expert at teaching the knowledge and skills while keeping their curiosity and interest in music which we think is hard to do. Kids love her so much not only because of all the games she play with them to strengthen their musical theory, but also all the encouragements she gave along the way while practicing. Over these years, she’s been providing lot of valuable and detailed feedback and suggestions on each of the song from both girls’ weekly practice from theory to gesture, etc. We really appreciate that.

My son's class got changed to online due to instructor's person issue. However, at the beginning when they said they would change the whole class to online, I literally said I won't register for online course. Back then, I guess a lot of other customers refused online format too, so they changed it back to in person. Now, at the second class, the manager requested me do online and told me I have to and if i don't attend it again it will be treated as i missed it. Only a few family business wont have backup back like what. Most ridiculously, the manager related this class as a public school class and said if I missed a class, there won't be make up just like that. Come on this is a music school! Such a disappointing reply from a manager! Anyway, I am escalating this to their website contact and hopefully it could have a better solution from any other managerial personnel.

Great school and excellent teachers. We have been here for 3+ years and are always treated with respect. Ms. Alana Merriam is always very friendly, professional, and has a great teaching technique our daughter always looks forward to class and has learned lots is the last year. We are looking forward to going back to class.

Our daughter takes piano and voice lessons and is also part of the Enriched Program. It is a financial sacrifice for sure, but worth it based on her progress, on the quality of teachers like Kelsey Scrivo and Nicole Foley (not only on a professional level but also as a person), the quality around recitals and other activities the school offers, their amazing auditorium and recording studio, etc. This school is top of the line.

Professional teachers with great teaching skills and manner! My son really enjoy the private lessons and the Enriched Program. He kept learning and developing his technical skills while also developing a great relationship with the teachers and his other fellows. He is constantly inspired by the teachers to learn on different type of music, and enjoy the challenges on the new pieces.

Merriam group piano teacher Mrs. Michelle Dizon is certainly my daughter's favorite piano teacher so far. Michelle stands out from others is her focus on fundamentals and nurturing the love of music in her students. This is my daughter's 3rd year at Merriam, she is now 7 years old and she is so passionate about her piano lessons. Miss Hadley is a great teacher who keeps kids engaged and motivated.

Have 2 kids enrolled in piano for couple years now. Highly recommend the group program for the little ones. It's a fun and engaging environment for kids to learn. Kids not only enjoy the musical activities and social interaction with peers, they also learn from each other. Another benefit is parents are able to attend classes and follow along. Too bad group classes are only available at Oakville location. Vaughan used to have it but not anymore. Andrea is a fantastic teacher, very organized, patient and encouraging. Kid also enjoy Hadley's upbeat classes.

I have both of my kids learning instruments here. They are learning piano flute and have short guitar experience in summer camp. All experiences with different teachers are very good. Piano group classes are fun and solid. They teach a lot music theories along with piano skills. Always have different games to let kids understand and remember the theories while having fun. The professional studio gives kids real stage experience and many opportunities to perform on stage. When my daughter consider to learn flute, she asks for merriam music speficially no where else.

My kids are extremely lucky to be students at Merriam: the teachers are wonderful, there are so many performance opportunities, and the level of musicality that is taught is beyond what I had expected, right from the earliest ages. I had great music teachers when I was a kid, but I'm so glad my kids get to attend Merriam. Very happy with everything.

My son has been in the group piano lessons at Merriam since he was 4 years old and, 3 years later, is now in the Junior 3 program with Ms. Hadley.   The group piano program is strong and the curriculum is well rounded - the kids don't just learn songs and scales, but also improvisation, playback, sight reading, theory, etc.   Hard theory concepts are simplified, made fun through games, and included in every lesson from day 1, which makes theory almost second nature for the kids.   Beyond classroom learning, the kids play in multiple concerts each year which gives them a chance to build confidence.   During COVID, online lessons are run well and the platform is easy to use.   Classrooms have clear partition walls between pianos and pianos are sanitized before and after each group lesson.   Finally, the teachers are phenomenal.   Ms. Hadley (our teacher for all 3 years) is fantastic.   With the kids, she's super encouraging and explains concepts in ways they can understand, and with parents, she's approachable and quick to respond to any emails I send to her.   I'm really happy with the group piano program at Merriam!

Merriam Music was our first choice. Ms. Michelle is the key factor in our kids excelling in piano. Ms. Michelle is knowledgeable, has abundance amount of patience and is consistent year after year. We are beyond happy with the school.

I have two kids who are both learning Piano in Merriam school. Merriam has variety of great program. And my kids really enjoy the time in the school. And I also happily noticed that my son likes playing piano when he gets time. As parent, I don't need to remind him to have daily practice.

My daughter & son have been with Merriam group piano for going-on 4 years. Ms. Michelle is everything an early-childhood music teacher should be. She is wonderful, interesting and energetic. The kids naturally give all their attention to her when she is speaking and playing, and that's no easy task. Sometimes when the kids are just being kids and the class is getting a little side-tracked, she knows just what to do to restore order. She is also very friendly, and the kids love her so much.

My son, Si went to Merriam school for learning piano just because I wanted him to do so. Fortunately, he liked his teacher, Hadley and enjoyed being with other kids in the class right on his first day. Hadley is a friendly and enthusiastic teacher. She does her job very professionally. Si has improved well lesson by lesson. I’m really happy with the school and the teaher.

My daughter Sarah has enjoyed the Group piano class with Ms Michelle very much. She started at the age of 4 and quickly learned the basics. She is now in the last year of the Junior program and has been progressing steadily with Ms Michelle's curricular guidance. The classes are fun, well structured and offer a good challenge, especially when combined with the sign-up recitals.

Ms Andrea Leung is a wonderful teacher! My daughter has been in her class for the past 2 years. Ms Andrea is patient with the children, and she makes learning the piano very fun.

My son has been taking piano lessons at Merriam School of Music for 9 years now. He started at 6, and I wasn't sure if we could stick to it.

His teacher is Ms. Kelsey Scrivo, who is truly wonderful! She is so talented, patient, warm and kind. I highly recommend her and Merriam Music School.

I was sold a digital piano at discount because of a broken wooden piece near one of the leg, which I repaired. A few months later, I noticed the piano had problem with a note that wouldn't repeat when pressed loud. It seems like the contact bumper gets stuck a bit. I have contacted the store a couple times to get help or claim warranty and had not received a reply at the time.
I have since received help for my issue. I had been offered a replacement for my piano but I decided to benefit from the upgrade plan I had received when I first purchased it.
Merriam Music video's on youtube helped me decide on what piano to upgrade. The videos were very informative and went into great depth to explain what the reviewer meant when talking about certain topics. I would greatly recommend to watch the review videos when looking for a piano.

My son began group piano lessons just before his 4th birthday and I honestly had doubts whether he would be able to stay engaged in the class due to his young age. We were encouraged to try it and he is at Merriam for his 4th year now! Not only has my son stayed engaged, but he has flourished! When I was researching piano lessons, I had the intent of looking for something that would nurture a lifelong interest and love for music, rather than just going through the motions of memorizing 3 songs for annual exams. Of course skill testing is important, but it is not the goal. Merriam has proven to be the place for nurturing that love and interest for music. Group piano may be at a slower pace than private lessons, but I find my son progressing quickly as the theory background he is building is strong. I find myself often feeling like I am re-learning piano along with him. Ms Michelle is wonderful; very organized with set lesson plans, meticulous, engaging, motivating and well paced. We love her! Having friends in the class also allow for some healthy peer pressure and accountability for piano practicing. The group setting also allows my son who has performance anxiety to ease into performing on stage, as he is less nervous with friends. Any time we have had concerns, it was dealt with swiftly and professionally. We would highly recommend Merriam.

We are so thrilled with our new piano and the exceptional service we received from Boris. As a family of pianists, we are so fortunate to have had his help with such an important investment. My daughter Katelyn has been studying group piano in the Marriam school for almost two years. She learn a lot and had a lot of fun interacting with other students. And the most important thing is, she appreciates a lot having a great teacher-Mrs. Andrea, who is full of experience and passion about piano. Mrs. Andrea taught group piano methodically through music theories and fundamentals. She also adepts at keeping the pace of study moving briskly, inserting fun and interesting pieces from a variety of activities. She likes to introduce different games and small contests that mingled with elements of piano fundamentals. From those activities, Katelyn reviewed the skills she learned while she is having fun. Katelyn also enjoys the recital program that Merriam offers on the monthly basis. This program not only gives her opportunity to perform in front of the public, but also a great to way to help her recognize the hard-work and consistent practice do make difference!

Our daughter has been in group piano lessons for two years at Merriam; she started lessons when she was four years old. The group setting provides a good environment for children and keeps kids feel engaged. The unique way of how theory and practical lessons are taught makes it fun for kids and keeps them interested and wanting to learn more. Merriam has instilled an amazing work ethic for our daughter. Because of the positive experience we have encountered the last two years, our youngest daughter recently joined group piano lessons this year.

My daughter and son have been attending Merriam School of Music for over three years now. My daughter is in a group piano class. Her instructor, Ms. MIchelle, is a wonderful teacher. She is patient and so good with the children. The entire program is well executed. All staff are very professional and kind. During Covid, they went to online learning and did an amazing job. My son, who is 15, is in private lessons and he loves his instructor as well. Darryl knows how to keep a teenager engaged! I highly recommend this music program.

My Daughters began Group Piano Classes at Merriam 2 years ago with Ms. Hadley when they were 4 and 6. The positive benefits have been tremendous, not only in piano skills but in their confidence. Staying with the same teacher and students for the first few years is a great strategy for ensuring that they are comfortable with their environment and can focus on learning. They love Ms. Hadley! She tailors each class to the children she is teaching, moving at their pace while keeping them on track. Having the other children in the class also is very helpful in keeping the kids focused and engaged. From the beginning Ms. Hadley has been working on sight reading, ear training, musical terminology, and writing music in fun and creative ways. My family has been going to Merriam since the Fall for their group piano classes. I think the group classes are the primary reason why he likes piano so much and is excited about continuing next year. His teacher Andrea has been amazing with the children and they pretty seamlessly moved to online on Merriam's own online platform due to the pandemic.

My child has piano lessons here and they have great programs for children of all ages. There's even an advanced program if your child excels in music. They have excellent teachers and their online program is also very good.

Our daughter has been a student at Merriam Music in Oakville for 3 years and entering into her 4th year in September 2020. Our daughter was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 9 months old at SickKids in 2009. As she faced her challenges over the years with support from Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy, we were told eventually piano lessons would be a wonderful activity as well to help our daughter along. Ms. Alana at Merriam Music has always been kind, patient, understanding, firm, fun and encouraging. Piano lessons albeit challenging for most people never mind a young girl with a right sided weakness it has been a wonderful source of confidence as she progresses every year. We have always felt Merriam Music provides kids a great space and great educators to practice and perfect their passions instrumentally and/or vocally however Merriam Music went above and beyond our expectations as they were put to the test with COVID-19. Somehow with determination and great leadership Merriam Music continued to provide top quality lessons VIRTUALLY throughout the months of March, April, May and June 2020. We are grateful to Merriam Music and their AMAZING TEACHERS for their commitment to EXCELLENCE no matter what and we look forward to starting up again in the Fall of 2020.

My 6 year-old daughter started group piano lessons at Merriam last September. The progress she has made has far exceeded our expectations and as she continues to be challenged, her love of music grows. This is something that she will enjoy forever. Merriam offers tons of opportunities such as recitals, competitions, studio fest for young music lovers to showcase their achievements. The school creates a great environment for aspiring musicians. I'm so happy to see that under the COVID-19 school building closure, Merriam has been keeping delivering high quality lessons through its virtual platform.

Merriam has so many good music teachers. Ms. Alana, our daughter's piano teacher, is a responsible and lovely teacher! She is very patient, encouraging and knows every kid's strengths. She is always very quick in responding to our emails as well. Will highly recommend.

Jessica is Alex’s first piano teacher and a fantastic mentor. She really makes the music learning experience fun for kids. I was worried that Alex wouldn't be able to enjoy piano classes. But it turns out he likes piano a lot and practices everyday thank to Jessica.
