I tried this greek restaurant since my cousin recommend me this place. It was huge portion of foods and so tasty. I love the greek salad. The combination of cucumber, feta cheese and tomato was amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The portions were huge - you’re pretty much getting 2 meals in one. The side salad was the size of an appetizer. Everything tasted great except for the roasted potatoes.
Soooo busy! But why? The restaurant’s staff look like they are all chickens running around with their heads cut off. Entitled older crowd goes in and expects to be served as if there is no line and the restaurant serves them first, no question. I was waiting to place my order and an older individual walked right past me up to the cash and she took his order even though I was standing there for 10 minutes already waiting patiently behind the person who was finishing at the cash. The older man puts his order in then I do. I’m waiting for my food and an older lady walks in talking loudly on FaceTime without headphones places her order and I’ve been waiting 15 minutes at this point and she waits maybe 3 and asks if it’s ready and it is! She gets her food at the exact same time I do and she has two bags! Besides that the food was ok. The roasted potatoes were amazing but the gyros wrap, no tzatziki! Hardly any! You see a little bit of white specks in your wrap but that’s it! The chicken, there is so much which is clearly the reason this place is on the top of every “best gyros in the city” list because of how massive it is but the chicken was very dry and honestly the whole thing was made so rushed and you could taste it. I gave two stars for the roasted potatoes! Yumm! But I got a side of tzatziki which is that small dip container and they charge 3.50 plus tax and hardly any on the wrap so this is highly coveted tzatziki! Tasted really sour, completely unbalanced and I didn’t really see a lot of cucumber. Hints of it. Maybe the outstanding reputation has gone to their heads? I will leave it for the older crowd!
This place has been around fir the last 20 years and we have been enjoying their delicious food since it first opened. We love this place!
Hands down, Messini is the absolute best authentic Greek Restaurant! We usually drive an hour just to enjoy their unique, delicious, popular Greek fries. Those fries are really our our absolute favorite. I do have to mention how hey are always so generous with cheese on top also. The value for your money is incredible.
Their portions are very big and they fill their plates and they pitas. Their gyros are huge and taste so good. The quality of their food is absolutely delicious and top of the line. I've never had a bad meal here to date.
You have a lot of delicious options to choose from. We have enjoyed numerous delicious dishes here throughout the years. Everything tastes so good here. Chicken skewers with roasted potato, meat platter, lamb and beef with potatos, deep-fried cheese balls, calamari and of course, messini salad. Everything is so flavourful.
Service is always amazing! Excellent attention from the whole staff. Super friendly front of house. They are always busy but fast and attentive.
Parking can be a bit tricky at times though depending on the time of day you arrive there.
The food is always served fresh and generous portions. I like the Gyros wrap with fries for a filling fast meal. Staff are always friendly a little amateur with service but they seem eager to help. We went again and sat in their newly renovated dining room. It was comfortable and decent. This is a favourite spot for a more younger clientele. Messini's is a good standard. Generous portions, tasty food, and an overall good value.
We travelled all the way to Danforth just to try this place out. There were flies all around us which made it super annoying while eating. Had to swat them away every 30 seconds. Got the Greek fries and chicken gyro pita. To be honest, the Greek fries were good but wasn’t anything better than other places. The chicken gyro was just bad. The chicken gyro was dry and really bland. Even got pieces of cartilage or bone over and over again that it ruined the experience of just eating and enjoying it. Majority of the sauce was at the bottom of the pita and even that wasn’t enough. Additionally, the woman at the front who guides you to the table was just awkward. Overall, avoid this place if you think they have the best Greek food. It’s mid.
Place is delicious with fantastic prices. Combos are great and the specials are definitely worth it. The only slight negative is the restaurant has a bit of smell that takes a bit to get use to, but the food Def makes up for it.
It is very unfortunate to leave one star but I had to after my last experience yesterday, I used to come to Messini very often before covid and it used to be great.last night I went with my partner after so long and let me tell you everything we order was cold and not fresh at all, both chicken and pork pita were so dry and it seems like it's been sitting for so long. We brought the concern to our waitress and all we got was a shoulder shrug and he asked us if we want it microwaved (never give that option to a paying customer), the waitress seems untrained and have zero customer service knowledge. We requested to speak to a manager and when she came she also did not know how to deal with the situation as well, she told us that the food sits by the door and that's why it's cold and after we argued with her then she offered to make it again and still the food came out old. Overall the staff is very unprofessional and the food quality is terrible. To all the returning customers you might need to reconsider going again.
Is the best that i can give for this restaurant for 2 insidence. First the last 2 times that i bought gyro the first time around 1pm the pitta it was cold and the meat like stone look like it was ready from last night. 2. At evening time i was calling many times and noone answered when i pass from there i saw the restaurant it was open when i ask why don't answer the phone they told me is too busy. This is a joke, if you cant answer the phone atlist put a message to your voice-mail.
Have ordered from here numerous times. In the past, it has been great, but recent experiences have been quite poor. Lamb/beef wrap was lackluster - lots of burnt, overcooked meat. Spinakopita was one of the most disappointing I've experienced. Overall, not keen on returning. Lots of other options in the area.
Update: I noticed they changed the way they make the souvlaki meat sticks. It looks like they no longer make them fresh anymore.it is now boiled/cooked and they reheat it on the grill, and it came out dry and tough to chew. Thatil is very disappointing.
Fortunately the roasting meats are still same and delicious. Please don't mess this up!
Can anyone confirm if they changed owners?
Original: Huge portion, food taste fresh, and I would not hesitate to eat here every other day if I didn't live up North!
After reading all the reviews, I was truly excited to try this gyro. You guys deliver value for money; however, I have not much to say. The gyro did not taste quite good. Too much oil and the meat was both tough and chewy
Dine in greek gyro restaurant in greek town. Cant go wrong. Quick no frills service. Nothing too impressive nothing to complain about. Always buzzing. We had the lamb +beef pita gyro and it was really nice.
They said they are open till 11 pm online everywhere. I showed up at 10 PM they said sorry we're closed. Been coming here for 15 years plus. The staff was completely condescending and rude and instead of being helpful they just said no sorry you should check online you're wrong.
Tonight, November 26,2021. I took my partner to eat to one of my favorites Greek restaurants in Toronto. What a big disappointment. My dish (grill calamari) is not longer in the menu. The waitress gave our table to some other customers and nobody else greated us and or offered us even water for at least 10 minutes that we were seating. I called the inexperienced waitress 4 times, she didn't even look at me. So my partner and I left the place very hungry, very mad, and very disappointed. I will never go back, so sad.
It was 5 stars place before.after a long time we finally sat down for dine-in and it wasn't good at all. The place smells so bad. Tables, chairs etc so sticky and feels so dirty.
I came hungry to this restaurant and I left hungry, upset and dissatisfied. The unwelcome, the unfriendly, and the unprofessional waitress made my dinning experience a disaster. 10 minutes waiting for a table. Not even water got offered. Waiting 10 minutes on the table without any attention. So bad so bad
The meat wasn't cooked well. Nothing Greek in the menu. A transformed way of cooking Greek cuisine. Salad without olive oil. Pita wasn't tasting good. Fried fries were overcooked.
You will be getting huge amounts of delicious, juicy lamb, beef, pork gyros all wrapped in a tasty pita bread - all for just $7 bucks! I’m coming back!
Can’t go wrong with Messini. I love their veggie gyro wraps, they are a good value and always fill me up, its usually overflowing with filling. The greek fries here are the best, waffle fries + feta is a yummy combo! I love their greek salad too, but if you order a veggie gyro you don’t need it because its a salad, pita and fries on its own. I love that Messini always gives pita bread with tapenade for appetizers. They have very friendly waiters too!
Extremely disappointed today was the first time to dine in after covid all food was in containers! Salad without dressing the sandwiches were coldthis is the last time to go there.
Terrible gyro and service. The mixed lamb / beef gyro was hard and just fat, gross. I had heard the quality had been dropping over the years and it really is true. There's nothing authentic about this place. The front line staff are not friendly at all, felt like they just wanted to take my order and get the line moving. It's too bad, this used to be a good spot many years ago. Now it's run like a cheap franchise.
Very disappointed. Restaurant has gone downhill. Ordered the pork gyros plate. Meat was all fatty pieces. Don't bother with all the awesome Greek places on the Danforth.
Best Gyros in the city hands down! Love this place. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for the quality is super high and the quantity matches. I cant go to greek town and not stop at this restaurant. Soo good. Just talking about it makes me want it.
Have been visiting this space for over 17 years. (time flies). Food has always been amazing, always fresh, great people working here. The owner has always shown up & holds it down! The saganaki is the best in town!
Had the Chicken Gyro, Greek salad, and the cheese fries, they gave a lot of tzatziki sauce which was very tasty. Overall, everything was pretty good and I would come back if I’m in the area.
Great service outstanding food quality and huge portions. They make their gyros rotisserie meat on site with pure chicken beef and lamb, no filler. Most restaurant's gyros have filler vegetables like lettuce and cucumbers.
The owner tells me that using all meat is the authentic way they should be made but most places fill it with green stuff to save money.
Messini's makes the best gyros and slovaki I've had anywhere in the world.
The food very rich, the portions quite good, price accordingly lacks more customer service the waiter little attentive and took a long time to take the order while the waiters were playing with the receptionist as we were treated badly the receptionist just had lazy that day of work
We came here due to its popularity amongst locals in Greektown. As they're known for their gyros, we ordered a lamb/beef gyros, a chicken/pork gyros, and a large Greek salad. The lamb/beef gyros was very dry. I'm talking jerky, so hard it hurts your teeth to chew dry, and it didn't seem fresh. The pork/chicken gyros was juicy, however both gyros greatly lacked in flavor and were very bland. The Greek salad was fresh and loaded with feta but once again had no seasoning or flavor. The service was good and the prices were low but.you get what you pay for
Oh My God! Is there a way I can eat there every day? They have amazing greek food (in the most greek way - huge portions) and I would highly recommend the cheese balls and the gyros
I used to love Messini when it was at Yonge & Eglinton but I wasn’t feeling the food last night at the Danforth location. Calamari was lightly breaded and minimal in taste, and my chicken souvlaki dinner was just ok. Chicken was decently cooked on the upside, potatoes were also just ok. Maybe I should have stuck with the feta fries because they looked good. Service was not great, very nice guy but scattered. Prices are decent for the amount of food you get.
Tasty Greek Street food served to-go, or in a no-frills dining space. Excellent Gyros with a nice balance of grilled meat, fresh vegetables, sauce and fries. Great for a quick meal.
This place is always busy and there's a reason why - good food at reasonable prices. I usually just grab and go and the service is fast and accurate. However, be wary of doing a grab and go during the dinner rushes on a Friday and a Saturday. Unless you know how to speak Greek, your order is going to get lost.
I would have given them 5 stars except for the fact that they lost track of orders.
Terrible place. The floors were slippery, the toilets seats were broken, the services was mediocre. Not worth the 40 dollars i spent thier. Food is not Greek anymore. They stuff fries in your Gyros with old dryed meat. Not worth the time.
If there was a "gyro war" on The Danforth, Messini would have won. Messini's is that quick go to for a quick bite. The best part is that there's ample room for dining friends and family alike. The menu itself is pretty good. From the souvlaki dinner to moussaka place your order and watch the saganaki flare. Their wines are good and the atomsphere allows it to be enjoyed with your crew. The calamari is prepared properly. Its got that soft and you can sink your teeth into the lemon sprinkled ring, that's just perfect. Their gyro is always fresh and they always put a bit of red-hot on mine. So join the line and enjoy a moment at Messini's.
First timer and wasn't impressed with the service or the food. Took a long time to get seated and waited a while again before the waiter showed up. He came with a tray of luke warm water. Had to ask for ice when other tables already had ice. Table beside us got seated after us and but they got served food before us. Several waiters were wandering around and two of them asked if we got our calamari appetizer which we hadn't. It finally came out as the last plate we received with the rest of our dinners.so yeah it was basically like dessert.
Salad was fresh and tasty Fries are worse than McCain, more like noname brand fries Calamari was good Beef gyros meat was dry and tough (most expensive kind of gyros) Chicken gyros was fresher Chicken skewer was fresh and tasty Don't get me started on rice, it was the absolute worst I've ever had at a greek restaurant. No flavour, overcooked and bland, even with some sauce spooned over it.
All in all a disappointing experience on all fronts. Staff seemed indifferent, service was slow and food was mediocre at best. Keeping walking folks there's plenty more places to choose from in greektown.
I have been going to this location for well over 10 years! The food has always been excellent for the price, known for their signature gyros. I’d recommend this place for those late night Greek food cravings. 5 stars.
An excellent place for a sit-down quick bite if you like gyros and suvlaki. The place is a little cheaper than the remaining restaurants on Danforth Avenue.
I use to come here a lot due to the inexpensive prices and relatively quick service. My biggest complaints are the lack of maintenance, cleanliness, professionalism, and aesthetics.
Quick frankly, this place looks like it’s falling apart. Wobbly tables, rips in the chairs, scratched up tables, etc. They seem to have no desire to make the interior look at least somewhat presentable. Nothing’s changed, and I don’t think it ever will. Most fast food restaurants look far more appealing in terms of aesthetics.
Cleanliness is another huge issue. I constantly see the same person bringing out the food and cleaning / preparing tables without washing their hands in between. I’ve seen the same staff members clean a table, touch dirty dishes, then prepare a new table with cutlery and straws. I get it, they’re busy, but cleanliness should not be taken lightly. There should be designated staff for bringing out the food and cleaning tables if they’re that busy, or at the minimum, wash your hands! The handling of food behind the counter doesn’t look the cleanest also.
My final complaint are the staff. Some are friendly, professional and quick, but unfortunately I’ve found that most are slow, don’t seem to care, and appear to hate their jobs. I don’t think they’re too concerned about who they hire.
The bottom line: you get what you pay for. You can feed a family of 4 for under $30 here, don’t expect anything great.
My favorite Greek Spot in Toronto, the souvlaki sandwiches are to die for. It’s as close as it gets, in terms of flavor, to having a souvlaki in Greece!
One of the best if not the best authentic Gyros spota in all of Toronto! The Greek salad is also amazing and portions are more then impressive. Until next time. OPA!
The food is actually good here at a reasonable price. Service has not improve from the past year. Take out is an option if you don't want to deal with the service. That is what we usually do when we crave Greek.
Horrible customer service. I came in to order takeout and my order was taken completely incorrectly. I notified the staff and the manager said I couldn’t get what I wanted because the order was put through already. Very unacomodating even though it was not my fault that a member of staff did not understand or verify my order. Very disappointed
We just dropped in after 11 pm arriving from the airport. We were advised that we could only have carry out, which wasn't an issue - due to being very hungry. The lamb gyros was a bit chewy, and the chicken gyros was abundant.
I decided to give it a try today and I ordered it. When I bite down, my teeth are hard and hurt. The lamb is very old and very old. It has been baked for a long time without any gravy and wood. The sandwich-like food made of 3 slices of bread is soft on the top and bottom. The middle piece of the cake was left for 3 days and felt completely bitten. Will never come again. The level difference with another Greek restaurant is too big. Disappointed.
Love this place. The quality and consistency of the food here is amazing. The Chicken Souvlaki Pita and Greek Fries are my go-to options here as both taste amazing and are a large portion. The Greek Fries can easily be split between 2 people at least, and the pita is large enough that it is satisfying enough on it's own as a meal. The prices here are also spot on. The Pita is only $6.80, which is amazing value, and everything else on their menu is also reasonably priced.
They used to have a yonge & eg location which unfortunately closed. Wish that was still there so I don't have to travel so far to get this amazing Greek food.
My wife and I each just had the gyro sandwich and it was probably the worst sandwich I've ever had. Big sandwich but no flavour whatsoever. We each spit out probably half of the meat because it was pure fat! Extremely disappointed and if we had stayed at the restaurant I'd ask for my money back. I've been coming here for years but will not be returning again. Total FAIL!
