Mikado Japanese Restaurant

I came here for Ramen, as soon as I walked in I asked about Ramen and they said they don't serve it. Kind of awkward and I felt bad for wanting to leave right then and there so I stayed.

The first warning sign was that the menu had about 12-14 pages of items. When a place tries to do everything it will do nothing well.

Unsurprisingly had quite a subpar and less than mediocre experience. I came here because of the ratings which I now realized are probably a combination of very old reviews when this place perhaps first opened and a bunch of paid reviews.

Don't come here if you really like sushi. It's hard to describe and put a finger on it but it's just low quality and lacks effort. Where to start?

Ordered a green tea, it came in as a bagged tea in a cup.

Ordered edemame, it tasted ok but cold and clearly a microwave job in the back.

Ordered tempura, this was ok. Nothing to write home about.

Ordered a sashimi, the tuna tasted and smelled fishy. The salmon was ok. Stick to salmon if you're coming here, it's high turnover.

Rice was ok, hard to screw up. Miso soup was ok. Salad was highly unimpressive.

Won't be returning.

The food was very fresh and delicious. The table service needs work as they need to be more attentive to all the tables and not just one at a time. It was good enough to return as the food was excellent.

A very nice Japanese restaurant with great atmosphere! Be sure to make a reservation before you go as space is limited!

I used to love this place and come here often with friends.
However, I went on my own and the lady first welcomed me with "a pickup? "
So if a woman comes to enjoy her dinner that's apparently a call that she must be doing a pickup. Very rude to assume. Then she asked if I had a reservation (which they told me on the phone I don't need and to just come in) and said they don't have room for ONE even though there were many open tables without a reservation note.
Greedy and embarrassing.
This was one of my favorite sushi places but left a "not coming back and giving you my money ever again" taste in my mouth that night.

We order takeaway, we haven't eaten in the restaurant (only because we have small children and don't personally like taking them to restaurants). We order and pick it up, always fresh tasting, and hot. We like that they reuse boxes to help carry out our orders. Less chance of leaks.

Both cooked meals and sushi are wonderful. So far everything we have had from there was great. No complaints

We have had sushi, and sashimi, and maybe have tried each appetizer, the bulgogi, yaki udon, chicken katsu, teriyaki and a few speciality rolls. They all have been lovely. Can't wait to try more.

This place has become our go-to sushi restaurant.

Nice cozy place by the lake. Sashimi and sushi were fresh. However, the tuna and butter fish pieces were too thick!

Been going to Mikado for years and they never miss. The atmosphere is very cozy, food is always delicious and fresh. The Maki rolls are stuffed. Service is always warm and friendly.

Ordered for take out. The food smell really great and hot when we got it in out car. However, the salmon roll for me was not that fresh so might not be that excellent experience

Food was okay. Honestly, nothing to write home about. But, we ate and our tummys were full, prices are good for what you get. Service though. The place wasn't full when we went and there were a couple of servers, but, somehow we still had difficulty getting someone's attention at different points during our meal, especially after food was done and we wanted to get dessert.

Everything that we ordered was amazing quality and good size portions. The ingridients were visible, all was fresh.

Small little Japanese restaurant. Simple styling but nice. Food came well-presented and tasted fairly well.

My boyfriend and I ate here for our Valentine’s Day dinner. We order the Explorer’s Boat and it was delicious. It left our taste buds wanting more but our stomaches said no. The service and atmosphere were also great. Definitely recommend!

What a disappointment. We just got takeout and realized once we got home the fish was spoiled. We've been eating here for 4 years and the owners know us. We called and they insisted the fish was fine! We were shocked at their response and refused to replace the fish. That's the last time we'll trust this place. Terrible customer service. They've got our $120 but it's the last dollar they'll see from us.

Mikado is my go to sushi restaurant for the last 7 years. It occurred to me that I’ve never written a review. This is high quality, delicious sushi. This is not an AYCE - All you can eat places are great for quantity, but often leaves much to be desired in quality.

The staff are attentive, the chefs are very skilled. I’ve probably eaten here 50+ times and never a bad experience!

Had a lovely time while there but hours after I got terribly ill and this was the only place I ate that day. It ruined my digestive system for a few days and I will be hesitant to eat sea food for a while. I wanted to love it but sadly I won't be back because of this experience.

Good quality and variety of maki. Fresh sashimi.

I am a Regular here both dine in and takeout. Food is the best among all Japanese restaurants in Burlington: fresh, delicious and not too pricy! And the portion is good. A lunch set bento box is bigger than lots of lunch set in other restaurants. My go place no doubt!

Love the food and quality but difficult to order via Uber Eats. Their hours are posted on the app, but they are closed inconsistently, even though their hours on the app say they're supposed to be open. They'll be closed during dinner hours on a weekday and then the next week (same time and day of the week), they'll be open.very frustrating experience.

Otherwise would have been 5 stars.

P. S. I'd prefer skip the dishes, but for some reason, their menu is missing the spicy mayo option on that app.

Friendly and welcoming. Great ambiance and location. Too much rice and breading used and soy sauce was too salty. Service was a bit slow. I waited 25 minutes for two rolls. Prices we’re ok and I’d go back still. Quality was excellent.

Super fresh and very tasty. The tempura was incredibly crispy and not greasy and the rolls wonderful. Highly recommended. Lovely staff as well.

The restaurant is small but elegant in every small detail, the food is fresh and presented properly.

A favourite for dine-in sushi in downtown Burlington! Their Bento lunches are a good variety of different dishes for a great price. It's got a really nice ambiance day or night with the light streaming through the windows or the illuminated parasols on the ceiling. The service and owners are friendly. There are a variety of special rolls to try but a standout is the beef bulgogi roll.
Do note that the washroom is upstairs so if you are planning to dine there, it may be difficult to access if you cannot climb stairs.

Really enjoyed dinner at Mikado. It's a nice location, across from a public parking lot.
The service was really excellent, very attentive and fast.
The meal was the highlight, and quite excellent. The portions were generous, and the presentation was quite nice.

Whent in to dinne in and to find out that they don't do all you can eat, what a disappointment. Prices are abit expensive for what you get at compared to other sushi restaurants. Our food took a long time to arrived had to mentioned to the waiter thinking they forgot to put our order in.

Would benefit from a make over, definitely need a deep cleaning. Food is decent and not overly priced. Bathroom is upstairs, elderly beware.

This is a very cute local restaurant located in village square in downtown Burlington. They have a very big menu and I wish it was all you can eat. Otherwise, I’d say it was a bit pricey, but the quality of food is amazing, so you get what you pay for! There were 2 of us, we ordered the small maki platter and the sushi was delicious, fresh, and made to order. It was more than enough for the both of us! To get the best value, I’d recommend you order off of the course menu or platters section. The lakefront is very close to this restaurant so it’s a great way to walk off the sushi afterwards!

First time to visit there. Sushi and udon were very delicious, staff are friendly and welcoming, also the restaurant is very clean and tidy.

First off i’m not the most critically acclaimed sushi Connoisseur. But my boyfriend ordered the salmon sushi came with wasabi hidden underneath the salmon not sure if this is common or not.

Secondly there was a fly in our tempera and when we told the staff they just laughed, and nothing was done about it, not asking for free things but come on.

Service was very slow just an overall awkward experience. Will not be coming back.

Really good sushi! Best I've had in a long time. Service was fast and very friendly. The sushi rolls were delicious and had the perfect ratio of rice to filling so that you don't feel like all you're eating is rice. Prices were also good for the portion sizes. I'll definitely be back for more.

The best Japanese restaurant in Burlington. Food is fresh, delicious, and affordable. The restaurant itself brings me back to the restaurants I visited in Japan.

We had a late lunch at this spot today and it was so lovely! The wait staff are very sweet and welcoming, the location is great, and the restaurant is charming inside. Most importantly, the food is DELICIOUS! The sushi rice is perfectly cooked and the fish was so fresh, the tempura was extremely well done - so crispy and the veggies were crunchy and well cooked. Their miso soup was delicious as well, I love that they have enoki in it.

Best place to go for sushi! Loved going there when I was a local of the city and now travel an hour to still come back and dine. Staff always remember us and serve with a smile. They don't rush you and let you enjoy the experience. Also very knowledgeable and dedicated. Would highly recommend this restaurant. They take pride in what they do and serve! The food is always consistent too.

One of my go-to sushi restaurants in Burlington. Service is very quick and food is incredible with decent prices. I recommend the Dynamite rolls (a little basic, but they do them very well).

One thing that could be improved is their online menu. It displays lunch specials, however they no longer offer these in store

We dined in (seems like a reservation is recommended at this time), and the portion sizes are pretty big!

We ordered calamari, agedashi tofu, torched salmon rolls, a medium sushi/sashimi platter, and tonkatsu.

The calamari was cooked well, and not at all fishy.
The agedashi tofu was freshly cooked, and seasoned well.
The torched salmon rolls were torched just enough to still enjoy the balance of cooked and raw salmon.
We were surprised with the variety of sushi that came on the boat! They even gave what looks to be negitoro gunkan sushi, which we were impressed with.
The tonkatsu is definitely a shareable platter, especially with how many cutlets the dish comes with!

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone coming into the Burlington downtown area

Food wise it's one of my favourite places, however, customer service wise. That's another story. I understand that they are a smaller restaurant, however, it always feels like they want us to quickly eat our food and leave. Like, they're constantly watching us as we eat and almost want us to scarf down the food. Also, there's a guy who works at the back and sometimes brings the food out to your table. Ive had to deal with him a few times and each time was not very pleasant. He's rude and abrasive most times and what be doesnt understand is, is that some people know Korean. Countless times I've heard him say horrible and make unprofessional remarks. It's disappointing because my friends and I love the area and the food but each time the service is just. Not the greatest.

Wonderful staff and great food. It was quite busy during Sunday lunch hour. Only reason for 4 stars is disposable cutlery.

Mikado has been our go-to sushi in Burlington for years! They never sacrifice quality and you always get the freshest ingredients. My standard order is a Dynamite Roll, Green Salad and Tempura. We also love the White Tuna Sushi and Steak Teriyaki. They have something for everyone. If you're looking to get the best bang for your buck try a dinner or lunch special. Special Dinner #5 is a steal!

Just finished the Sashimi and was very satisfied with the many varieties of fish. Some I have never even heard of but all were very good. The price was very reasonable so I definitely will be coming back.

Had an order pick up at Mikado today! The place is cozy and clean. Gives you a different type of vibe and amazing. We placed the order ahead of time and said we need to pick it up within an hour. We got there an hour and half, unfortunately the food is not yet prepared and we had to wait another 15-20mins. The platter prepared was good though! Good for sharing.

Delicious! The tempura was light and delicious. Bulgogi was perfect. Even the accompanying soup and salad was sublime. Highly recommended.

We had two take-out sashimi dinners and salmon-avocado maki, which came with miso and salad. Fabulous. So fresh. Great selection of fish, including salmon, red tuna, octopus, sea bream and amazing hamachi. Loved it.

My overall experience was really good. We ordered "salmon sashimi", "Treasure Island Roll", Green Dragon Roll", "Go Train Roll" which were served in a sushi boat. We also ordered "Kiss ME Roll" and Shrimp Tempura. The rolls were made of fresh ingredients and tasted really good.

The only drawback was upon our arrival; Nobody was at the front door/patio to guide us and we went inside and talked to the chef and let them know we're taking the patio seat. Then, it took them a bit to come out and give us the menu. Other than that, the waiting staff was very friendly and helpful when she showed up.

The indoor area is extremely small but I didn't mind that too much. The sushi I tried was okay, not bad but not worth the price (quiet high) tbh. The staff are very nice and friendly and the food didn't take too long to be served. I would maybe visit again for something small but definitely not worth going too often.

Food was amazing, fam wanter to eat at the front but one of the employees insisted that it was dirty, almost had an umbrella fall over us but luckily it was fine waiters were very nice and washrooms were clean

It is pricey but it tastes very good. I took one star away because I unfortunately could not understand the server properly and she gave me some wrong items.

Nice but expensive for sushi. However the area it's in is very cool so I think the prices reflect the atmosphere and environment more than anything.

Very disappointed. When my spicy salmon maki and my spicy tuna maki came it was basically all tempura bits with very little fish and the uni sashimi that I ordered was low quality and not in very good pieces. Will not be coming back. My girlfriend enjoyed the vegetarian rolls though.

Amazing food, amazing staff, we had an issue with Uber eats (allergies). We called them they came through. Just honestly a fantastic experience. Call them directly. Forget Uber eats. I'd give ten Stars if I could.

Food is always yummy and on time when they tell you to arrive. Ordered lobster roll, spider roll, California roll and yam tampura. Always come here!

The staff at Mikado are great, and go above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction! We had ordered from Uber Eats, and Uber Eats had messed up the allergy specifications on our order. The Uber driver took NO accountability for it, although it is their job to relay special instructions and verify that their orders are correct. I called the restaurant and they were very apologectic and understanding, and they eagerly rectified the issue. It's unfortunate that I can't say the same for Uber Eats as they are seemingly impossible to contact and do not take responsibility for their errors. That being said I am so thankful for the understanding staff and service at the Mikado! Not to mention the fantastic quality of the food!

If I could give zero stars - I would. Worst customer service ever! The food was terrible and they seemed quiet racist. My friend speaks Korean and understood most of their conversation. We had to wait for a while and were denied patio tables even though we were 2 people and there were at least 3 tables available by the time we wanted to eat. We finally got our food and asked to use one of their tables and they refused. The fish used in my sushi was not fresh either. TERRIBLE!

Sat out on the patio and enjoyed literally the best sushi we have had in a very long time. Presentation was perfect, spicy crispy tuna roll was to die for. Service was fast and wonderful, can't say enough good things about this place. 10/10 highly recommend!

My Ubereats order showed up an hour after the time they’ve indicated. The sushi was mediocre. I wouldn’t order again.

Mikado Japanese Restaurant has been a long time favourite with friends and family. They offer cooked meals as well as sushi and sashimi which is excellent. They are able to accommodate food allergies to garlic and gluten. They do a beautiful job and have a wonderful patio and indoor dining area. We’ve visited this restaurant for years for both dine in and take out. The owners and staff and team at Mikado are very pleasant and wonderful hosts.
