I was excited to have a date night at Mill Street. Unfortunately I left disappointed. We had to wait 15 minutes until I waved down a server to take our drink order. The tacos we ordered for dinner were horrendous. $8 for a single frozen fish taco served on a DRY, STALE tortilla. It was shocking. We sent them back to the kitchen. The blue cheese sauce that came with my wings was straight out of a jug. Best part of the experience was the cold drinks.
Gorgeous view at this venue. Lots of parking, the food and atmosphere is great and it's relatively easy to get to. Food isn't overly expensive and reasonable quality. Great to come here for Latin dancing as well! It is a bit isolated but within walking distance from lots of park and waterfront pathways.
The Mill St. Venue is an absolute gem. This heritage building was the perfect location to celebrate our marriage. Words can hardly describe our level of happiness with every aspect of our experience with them. From our contact, Christine, to all the staff for their immense work in making our experience such a memorable event. Highly recommended. On a side note, their cask program is wonderful and “Tapping that cask” to kick off our reception is a moment we’ll never forget. - Emily & Andrew
This is a 10/10 experience almost without exception. I’ve visited many times in 2023 and the staff is exceptional, the food consistently delicious and the overall vibe very comfortable. Love this place!
We went to celebrate our friend's birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed The Mill St. What a great atmosphere, amazing food and of course all the great selections of beer. Will be back soon!
Nous y avons arrêté en passant par la piste cyclable, le gros plus de cet endroit est l’emplacement, la vue. Les bières sont cependant chers sur place.
Came for a bite before the Bluesfest. Tne place was busy because of a wedding reception. Food and drinks were slow, but understandable. Our waiter was excellent, and kept checking on us to reassure us its coming.
My extended family enjoyed an afternoon at Mill Street after my mother's funeral. The planning time was short, but the staff at Mill Street accommodated everyone: children, the elderly and people with mobility challenges. Our server, Halli, was outstanding. She worked so hard and kept all 31 of us fed and watered. She was friendly and made everyone feel at home. Steve was so professional in dealing with the problems that I created when our numbers jumped at the last second. Terese, who took the original booking and met us at the door was also lovely. What a team! Fantastic food and drink in a beautiful location. My mom would have love it! Thank you Mill Street. You make Ottawa look good!
We were there with a big crowd, and were well taken care of. We appreciated that our vaccination status was validated. In addition to the drinks, they have vegan menu choices, including a Buddha bowl, and a vegan burger, and both were excellent.
I usually go to the retail store which has a wonderful selection of beer, including in growlers. I treated myself to the jerk bbq wings this evening and they really hit the spot! Enough spice to feel a burn without being overwhelming. Nachos are also solid.
Terriblement déçue! L'une des pires expérience de ma vie. Le personnel incompétents, nourriture de mauvaises qualités et la bières CHAUDE. Les travailleuses de terrasse un gros zéro
Nearly impossible to get a seat despite all the picnic tables outside. The food is often cold and mediocre but their beers are not bad. The best part of the restaurant is the view.if you manage to get a table.
Tres bel endroit. 2 superbes terrasses. Nouriture excellente. Les calmars en entrée sont super bon. Cotes levées aussi très bonne. La bière est froide et le service est excellent. Endroit très propre. Vous ne serez pas déçu.
Went out for lunch on a rainy Sunday. Ordered a Pepsi, they were out. Then I ordered the Noodle bowl, they were out. Imagine being out of one of the most popular drinks and being out of food. Embarrassing.
Beautiful location, but unfortunately service wasn't so great. After waiting in line to get on a wait list for a table, we were told we'd get a text when our table was ready. We waited about 25 minutes, got a text and went back to the host stand, only to be told to wait outside, she would come get us. So we waited outside for another 25 minutes, with many groups going before us. Someone finally came out and asked if anyone had gotten a text for a table, and we said yes, but we'd been waiting a while, and we thought we were forgotten about, to which she replied "oh sorry. " Once at our table, it took a while for our server to come by so we could order food, and even longer later to get our bill. The food was good, but the lack of attentiveness was just unfortunate.
Visit this place to taste their beer.food portions could be improved for the price.overall was a great experience, ample parking place, the ambiance was great.
I had the fish and chips today and it was very delicious. Love the ambience and a bunch of of wonderful and friendly staff which can make your experience almost impossible to forget. Definitely going back next weekend for brunch.
Food was good. Burgers were great. Price is reasonable. Great staff and location. Wait time was 30 minutes to get a table. Overall good experience. I recommend trying the nachos they were delicious.
Great food! Great Service! Especially our server Halli. She was super friendly and funny AND super efficient. Thanks Mill St.for yet another great experience!
We’ve dined at the Mill Street Brew Pub quite a few times over the past years and always enjoy eating and drinking at this quaint place. My most recent visit was just as enjoyable, and our efficient and personable server made the experience great again!
We wanted somewhere nice with our friend group to get together on a patio for the first time since the most recent lockdown started. We collectively decided on Mill St.
We didn't get a spot on the patio or in view of water - but the front lawn was good enough. Despite the uncomfortable picnic table, the setting was really nice.
The beer was good - I imagine that's key for a brew pub so no issues there.
The biggest fault was the food. It was a busy weekend, so many menu items were unavailable. So our whole table of 5 only had two different dishes - that was a bit of a letdown. The elk burger was good - the toppings outshined the overdone burger on 2 of the received (the other 2 were cooked well). The chicken sandwich was fine, unremarkable IMO but no issues. The gravy on the poutine may be the worst gravy I've ever tasted. I think the cook who made it dumped in too much water so tried to thicken with way too much corn starch. This gravy tasted like poison - I can't stress how nasty it was. On the flip side the sweet potato fries and aioli were super good.
To end on a high note, the server was really friendly and attentive.
Tried it, likely won't be going back. Some hits and some misses. I wouldn't not recommend it but I would try somewhere else if you were after food.
Like this place, most of their have nice and light flavor profiles. The place itself is quite nice too, they have entertainment sometimes. Their patio has an awesome view of the river. Menu is quite nice. Service is great!
Great Saturday date night spot, especially if you get a seat overlooking the water. Food is consistently good but some signature items were not on the significantly reduced menu which was a let down. Attentive waitress on a pretty busy, holiday party filled night.
The Millstreet brewpub has always been my favourite bar, previously rated 5. I am removing one star from my rating mainly due to the drop in Quality of the food.
Recent changes: - Food quality - Food portions - Beer taste - Prices feel like they got more expensive.
Backstory:
When I heard the news that Labatt was taking over the company about a year or two ago, I was shocked and saddened; naively I felt, and still feel, that the company will be run with great care and faith.
Normally when you hear about corporate takeovers about places or things that you love, you get an uneasy feeling (e.g, how George Lucas stated he felt when selling the StarWars franchise, we all know how that ended up). We feel uneasy because time and time again, these merger situations have been shown to execute be it gracefully or destructively; they will either rip the soul out of a business slowly over several years, or add to it's soul as the "synergies" start to take effect.
This one feels somewhat graceful; the old Millstreet brewpub I knew and loved still feels intact, and I would say the staff and clientele are to thank for this. However, I can see the slow trickle of corporate greed creeping in. Prices have been raised, portions have gotten smaller. For now, only minutely, but this is a surefire "frog in a slowly boiling pot of water" situation.
I'd recommend slightly correcting the trajectory by: - being more generous on the portions - or, lower the prices to more closely match the fair value of the portions being served - and, cooking things fresh (i.e, for chicken on salad, grill it on the spot as opposed to taking it from a fridge) ;
I'm pretty sure corporate loves this place as much as everyone else.
Very decent place for food and beer. I discovered the 2 best beers where not being served but where available to take home. Make sure to stop at the bottle shop before you leave.
Yay new menu! Lots of veg and vegan options now! Makes it an easy choice when going out with my Vegan buddy. The food we had was excellent and the seasonal beers on tap were great.
I've had up and down experiences at this eatery. The setting is spectacular, in a building that overhangs the old lumber chutes on the Ottawa River. Many years ago it was a relatively high end restaurant called The Mill. Today it is a popular spot with its own micro brewery. The food is pretty standard fare with the odd exotic touch like the Elk Burger. Taste is ok, service can be slow when it's busy and because of the acoustics, out is very noisy. Out is good for groups, with lots of space.
Great beer. But the food is no where close to as good as it used to be. I have been going for years and every time I go it seems to not be as good. Best craft beer around for sure.
I've never had a bad experience here. The location is beautiful if you can get a seat on the edge of the river. The food is solid and the beer selection okay. It's a great spot after work - and it can be hard to get a table during lunch and happy hour so plan ahead if that's when you plan to visit. It's great that it has parking but it can be full during peak hours also.
Food is okay, Caesar salad was great but $3 extra. I found my meal pretty average for the price I paid. Also they charged me for onion when I asked for some in my burger? Never seen that before.
Had a group reservation that was "confirmed" by Mill Street the day before but upon arrival we were told they had nothing written down. Instead of rectifying the situation, they reluctantly sat us in the section we were promised but told us we had to leave by 7 pm. Attitude of the waitress was combative as she made excuses and implied we were lying about what we had asked for, and the lack of appearance by the manager left a lot to be desired. Food was decent and our waiter was good but I wouldn't choose this place again. Unreliable.
Nice location with a lot of good beers on tap and the service is usually good. Food wise it’s your basic pub variety but nothing really stands out for me. I like this place mostly for the location, ambience and beers.
Just went to a Christmas party there being thrown by my work. The staff was very accommodating, I drink some uncommon drinks, and did a great job of serving food in a timely fashion. A definite plus was how the staff was there when we needed them, but never intrusive. I would do a great disservice if I didn't mention the food. The food was absolutely delicious. It was perfectly seasoned, cooked with definitive care for both flavour and texture, and beautiful presented. This is a place one should visit when looking for an excellent dining experience.
I have been here several times, but I have never felt the need to write a review. However, on my last visit to the pub we had an excellent server, "KL". Her vibe and energy made the experience enjoyable and she was good at her job (good recommendations). My husband and I are not strangers to dining out, and KL has got to be one of the best servers we have had. The food was good, and we had tasty seasonal beer. Thank you for a wonderful experience, we will be back.
Good selection of beers! Good food! Service was average. Great location, especially if you're lucky and get to sit on side facing the river, unfortunately my friend and I were facing the parking lot. It gets quite popular during the summer. Overall, would recommend checking it out and ask for a seat by the river!
Not impressed. The service was terrible - our party was out back, where they have a bit of a solarium looking out over the water and the server forgot to turn the lights on so we sat in the dark. The server took forever to help us and when he finally did he had no idea where the light switch was. The drinks were sub par and the food was average.
