Looking for HK style cafe close in Scarborough. Ming Noodle Cafe has been around for many years and I drove by it many times and never had a chance to try it until today.
We order 2 x Hainanese chicken with rice comes chinese pork bone soup and choice of coffee or HK hot milk tea. The milk tea here is fantastic and they serve it in the trademark HK style cup. Perfect amount of carnation milk with steeped black tea The chicken was seasoned well served cold but it was tender. You can dip it in hot sauce or green onion ginger sauce (my favourite).
We also ordered black pepper steak on rice. Also comes with soup and choice of coffee or HK hot milk tea. The steak was covered thick layer of black pepper sauce. They used the grilling steak flanks, which were marinated and tender.
We also ordered preserved egg with minced pork congee which came with choice of fried dough fritters or coffee/milk tea.
Overall the experience was positive and the food came out relatively fast. The restaurant was busy for 12pm lunch rush. Only critique was the table we were seated was next to the washroom and the main entrance so it was cold.
If you want some HK style food that won't break the bank then give this place a try.
This is a classic hidden gem! I saw a few reviews about service being bad but for a classic Asian spot, you aren’t coming here for stellar service. You come here for food. Good food. And this place knows how to make good food. I personally received okay service and everyone was polite.
I ordered pork liver congee from the Chinese breakfast menu. If you aren’t adventurous, maybe don’t order that. But it was the most perfectly cooked pork liver I’ve had. The pork liver was tender but still had a nice bite. The congee was served piping hot and so hot that it cooked the slightly medium rare pork liver. I know because I burned my tongue.
2 bowls of congee for 8.45/bowl AND came with a big plate of Chinese donuts. That is a breakfast deal I can get down with.
Authentic Cantonese Snack Restaurant (but with a cold reception) My wife, her aunt, and I visited this restaurant in Oct 14 2022 for a mid-afternoon snack. I was eager to try out their all-day breakfast dishes from their menu offering authentic Cantonese-style fried peanut-soaked bread sandwiches and tea in sweetened milk. True to their word it was authentic, however I began to notice subtle things between my wife, her aunt and that waitress who didn’t seem to have nice manners. I may not understand Cantonese but I can tell they weren’t happy with the staff attitude and overall reception. My meal was tasty but I did notice on my sandwich what seemed to be cat hair (but could not be sure). Our host used to come here often but after this incident she said she’ll not come here again (and probably we wouldn't). That’s too bad
Afternoon tea set is really good value. The French toast portion was really big and the milk tea was fantastic. Interior decor was a little dated but service was friendly. Would recommend.
Solid cha chan tang! Breakfast is priced well and have a nice customizable combo (main breakfast plus a side of protein or sandwich). Lunch menu has been expanded post covid so there is much more selection. My new favourite/ surprise was the pork cheek and salty fish with fried rice wrapped in lotus leaf. Huge portion, generous amounts of meat, tastes great and comes with soup and hot drink. For $13.45, it’s a hell of a deal. Service is not great, but food and $ are key for these types of places.
A decent sized cafe/restaurant in typical HK style. Plenty of seating and fairly spacious. Often quite busy. The thing about HK style cafes are that they are usually great value and have plenty of options. This is no different. A main + included free drink and soup for about $10 is good value. Service is decent. Plenty of free parking out front, but the place does get busy. Worth the visit if you want a quick and inexpensive meal.
Breakfast was pretty good, we all like the go milk tea, pretty authentic.we also bought their chili oil, but haven’t taste it yet so not sure is good or bad
Their hot Hong Kong-styled milk tea is not very creamy. Sugar is not pre-added.
French toast is super thick and it appears they use good oil-the outside is a nice golden colour as opposed to the dark kind from used oil. Peanut butter filling is extra. If you order the Taiwanese-style French toast, there is nothing inside the toast and the topping is condensed milk and syrup.
I always enjoy their stirfry glutinous rice with cured sausages, dried shrimps and mushrooms with peanut bits as a topping.soooooo tasty
Lots of afternoon tea sets between 2: 30pm and 5/5: 30pm.
Price has gone up many times in recent months but the food quality has gone down. Food is very salty. Maybe it's good that the portion is tiny so I don't need to drink 2 L of water after eating there. Will not go back as there are other HK cafes that offer either better prices or quality or both.
Lots of food options but very bad service. Waitress would throw dishes on the table instead of putting it down. All the waitresses seems like they don't want to work there. Also, when I paid, the lady said I didn't give her tips. Told her to look at the money I put there and then she noticed that I did give her tips. She just said, "oh, didn't see that". No apologies. Never going back here
Great place for breakfast (breakfast menu goes until 11am)! The butter toast is always tasty and the eggs are cooked just the way I like them. 4 stars because the staff are not very friendly but the quality of the food and the price always brings me back!
The afternoon tea set was fine. I had ordered fried pork chop with instant noodle and a cup of Hong Kong style milk tea. The chile oil was very good with the noodle. The price was only $6.5. It was very reasonable price.
Terrible food. Shrimps were not deveined. The rice tasted disgusting. The soup was extremely salty.
The place wasn’t clean and they are cleaning up their restaurant sweeping the floor while we were eating.
The service was deplorable. The waitress just pointed with the menu to the table for us to sit. Do these people have simple basic manners? They threw the menus at the table and didn’t smile and was cold. We tried to get their attention for the bill but they were too busy cleaning the floor.
The price was average for a Chinese restaurant but the food and service was horrendous. Do not come here when a 1 minute drive away are splendid restaurants with divine food, decent service and for a cheaper price.
My go-to Hk cafe. Just wish I lived closer to it, so I could go every weekend. The Gui Lin Mai seen noodles are my favourite. Their cold Hk tea is also worth the additional price and a must try.
Busy place for breakfast, combo meals are good value, especially when you get a free Singtao daily newspaper, service is swift, sometimes little mix-ups happens
