Amazing experience adopting our two boys six months ago. The support, the love, the effort from the shelter is priceless. I strongly suggest adopting from the Mississauga Humane Society

CALL TORONTO WILDLIFE INSTEAD! I called Animal Services about a pigeon with a broken leg and asked for assistance, because Toronto Wildlife didn’t pick up the phone. Animal services told me they would help the pigeon and that I shouldn’t pick it up because it might be sick. The pigeon wasn’t bleeding and his paw could’ve been fixed, it could still walk and even jump onto the sidewalk. After I left, Toronto Wildlife called back warning about Animal Services, saying that they will most likely simply put it down…which did happen. They picked up the bird and put it down right away because “it’s better than letting a bird suffer”, meanwhile Toronto Wildlife would help it. Don’t call them if you want to save a life.

There have been MULTIPLE pit bull attacks and the Officers are nice during intake, get you to fill out forms with all your information, then do absolutely NOTHING. The province banned this breed in 2005, yet this city is full of them - Mississauga Animal Services refuses to do anything and enables the trashy loser owners that choose to own this vicious breed that was specifically bred to kill, or be used as a weapon. Don’t believe the rhetoric that it’s an owner issue - all the training in the world doesn’t overcome an animal’s instincts.

I found a house cat in my yard. It wouldn’t leave for over a week or two. My boyfriends grandma kept feeding it dangerous things like cake and hot dogs, and she wouldn’t stop. So I knocked on my neighbours doors to try and find the owners, when I was unsuccessful I decided to bring the cat here to find a better/safer home, or hopefully find the owners. Mississauga Animal Services seemed mad at me for doing that though. I thought I was doing the right thing. But I felt like it was the wrong thing after I left. It was a weird vibe. When I said why I was there she shook her head at me. Very unsettling. But I’m happy they took the cat in and the gentleman was very nice and reassured me this cat would very easily be adopted.

Recently adopted a cat from this location. The senior volunteer who helped me was a very cheery and helpful woman who just loved cats. The morning staff were fantastic and fun to chat with - they gave me a little grab bag of goodies to take home with the cat (toys, food, info) and let me borrow a carrier for my big chonker, as she was too heavy for the cardboard case.

There were so many lovely cats in the shelter. Two of which were very aggressive towards other kitties, but very nice cats when on their own. It made me think that a small curtain was needed for over the cat cages so that the aggressive kitties can roam in the room without being reactive to those in the cages. I wanted to take them all home!

FYI to visitors. Even though shelter is open until 6pm, staff did not let me adopt or visit animals after 5: 15pm as they "put them to bed". So if wanting a visit or adopt, go earlier in the day or be warned: you will be met by a grumpy staff member who will just want you to go away and to come back another day. Maybe that particular staff member was having a bad day? Regardless her attitude almost made us reconsider the adoption but I'm glad we did not. A simple shift in attitude is probably required if working a customer service desk. A positive greeting goes a long way even if you have to say no!

Unfortunately I had to surrender my cat of 13 years due to some serious personal reasons. Before surrendering my cat I went to this shelter and asked what is required from me in giving up my cat. I was told by an employee that all I had to do is bring the cat by and we'll try our best and get her adopted. So after making this tough choice I brought my cat on Monday July 31. Saw a different women and she made this a total nightmare for me. She told her co worker take the my cat and euthanize her. She didn't even have the decency to wait till I left on top of that this women (short Caucasian with glasses women) had a serious attitude. She no sympathy and no heart. I'm trying to keep this comment PG. But she was a told beep and needs to be fired ASAP she doesn't like her job a probably her life as well.

The person at the desk was extremely rude. Hoping they care for lost animals kinder than how she treated me.

I recently approached Mississauga Animal Services to report a cat lying down in my backyard that had appeared ill or injured. The cat seemed unconscious as it was swarmed by large flies with no response from the cat. As welI, the cat would not respond to my loud clapping.

I quickly realized this poor animal was in need of medical help. I called the Animal Services, and after a few routine procedure related steps, they dispatched an officer to my location within half an hour.

Strangely, by the time the agent arrived, the cat was gone and nowhere to be found in my backyard. But there were large dripping of blood and/or body fluids on the spot where the cat was seen.

It is too bad that cat could not be helped and we do not know its fate. Nonetheless, I appreciate the quick response from the Animal Services to attain to the situation expediently. Zia.

Called them about a small dog I had found. They came within the hour to pick up the dog from my house on Saturday evening. The lady was very nice and also reassured me, explained what happens in such cases. Thank you MAS

Called about a missing cat I found but it ran away so I wanted to check quickly if anyone lost their cat or someone just let it wander but it took more than 25mins for anyone to pick up so I guess there's no point in calling to help:/

Such kindness and compassion when I brought my deceased cat in for cremation. I can’t thank them enough for their kindness at such a difficult time.
They were truly caring.

Called in to ask if they do pet surrenders, lady who picked up my call returned my question with a sarcastic remark that was not needed as I am devastatingly needing to surrender my cat due to financial issues. She was not friendly, I felt belittled and was not compassionate at all. I ended up feeling worse about my cat after I called this shelter.

I’ve had to contact Mississauga Animal services a few times but today we had to contact them about a bunny nest that our dogs found in the backyard. We appreciated the animal control officer, Kenton who came by and educated us on why they can’t be moved, he confirmed they are healthy and let us know the typical bunny process for leaving. As much as I would prefer they not be in my backyard for safety reasons (for them) we will be diligent with watching out dogs and not allowing them out.

My experience adopting Clover was nothing but amazing. My partner and I first met her a little over a week prior where the amazing volunteers guided and introduced us to the cats in a way that made us feel both at home (weirdly enough) and confident to adopt from this location. Well, Clover here stole our hearts and we knew she was the one. After a week of preparing it seemed that luck (perhaps a four-leaf clover) was on our side as she was still there. This love bug was instantly curious to explore within 10 minutes of arriving home and has been nothing but a sweetheart so far, adjusting faster than ever expected. Her vet appointment is coming up but I have no concerns. The woman who helped me with the adoption process walked me through every step and made sure I had and knew what I needed. I can't understand how someone could dump this sweet girl, but it's their loss as she is ours to spoil now. Thanks for everything Animal Services!

My husband and l visited Mississauga Animal Services back in December 2022 and picked up our new family member Clementine, shelter name Vera. She is the most adorable little creature you will ever meet. The staff was very helpful in allowing us to get up close and personal with her on our visit and we just were so taken by her that we took her home. I would recommend them wholeheartedly when you are looking for your next “furry” family member.

One can find a lot of varieties of cats, rabbits and dogs that are looking for their forever home. I was more interested in seeing what types of cats and dogs were there and I must say cats are really lovely and friendly.
When I went near their cage they started offering me their little paws which was so touching for me as I never had a cat before so I am unaware of their love language. There were a lot of short hair, medium hair and long hair cats. Overall I really liked the place and would definitely go to adopt one when I am ready.
