Swimming lanes are plain in sight and easy to read, sometimes followed with audio instruction, however it seems the staff doesn’t care to enforce it so it’s a free for all of ignorance

YMCA GTA (Mississauga) Employment Service very bad

I have been connected to the YMCA for 6 months. I got good service at the initial. After that no reply, no response from them. Even for the next appointment, I have to call and tell them that we did this before but I didn't get any response from any clients so please tell me what to do the next step. They didn't talk like that and said you have to book an appointment at that time we'll discuss then they booked my appointment after one week. During the appointment time, they took only 10 min to say that this is the list of jobs we found for you now you have to apply. So, we have to apply and again didn't get any response from where you apply. Again call them and the process they done. I have done 4 times this same process.

Now, I have to close my account and do the other program with another employment agency. I tried to call them, and also to my consultant personally via mail via call but they didn't reply or respond. They took my call and said do you have your consultant's mail if I say yes then they tell me to reach out to her via mail. The receptionist service is also not friendly. It was rude behaviour. So many times I tried to directly with my consultant, Serwaa Owusu-Ansah but she didn't pick up my call and even she didn't respond to me. Still, I'm suffering with this situation. I have had the worst experience with this consultant and the office of the YMCA.

Don't expect good employment service from YMCA particularly Mississauga.

Everything is nice at this location accept a female worker that works at the lady's VIP area. She's really rude especially for new members at the Vip, just the worst. Had very bad experience cause of her attitude

This YMCA is conveniently located in the heart of Mississauga. It's a modern, multi-level facility with dozens of amenities and group classes for almost all of one's fitness needs. Many of the spaces have pleasant natural light flooding in. Parking is included with membership, and your membership can be used easily at any other GTA YMCA, but also at any YMCA in the world, which I find useful when I'm traveling elsewhere beyond the GTA.

I had an absolutely horrible experience with the staff there, her name is Sanaa. Very rude! She made my kids cry. Horrible experience with her, just horrible. How can YMCA hire staff like that and put them to deal with customers? Wow! Very shocking experience. Been going there for years and this is the treatment we get? !

I go here exclusively for Volleyball and honestly more often than not they just let people make their own teams, have them fight between themselves on who plays next, and if you dont know people there you may not even get into a team cuz its so full. Shame because the facilities and the staff are really great in general!

I applied for accessment and after month or month and half a call came urging that if i need a job. She didnt even explained me who she is? Y she is calling and for what. I just told her right now I am studyinh to which she just said ok so you dont need to get employed alright Sir you cant work while you are studying. She didnt asked if I am new immigrant or what my status. No questions. These people are total unprofessionals. I dont know but i dont think any one should give personal info to such people who are not sure who, where how and when are they calling. So if i registered to them 2 months ago they expect me to answer and understand who they are in 10secs otherwise they will just reject your application

I have visited this place to enquire about the membership and the benefits. The staff did explained the details clearly and they clarified all the questions that we had.
14 July 2022 15:39
Their phone number doesn't work at all. Impossible to ask for any information. The only reason it's not 1 star is because it's a fantastic gym otherwise.
27 May 2022 17:35
Very clean, nice, well organized. Staffs are pleasant, helpful. I wish it would open until mid night on weekends as well
10 May 2022 18:36
If you're looking for a place for people to put their bare feet without socks on machines, look no further.
I waited for 20 minutes to try and give admin a heads up about people putting their bare feet on equipment, no one showed up, so I guess a public review will be sufficient.
Disgusted to say the least.
04 April 2022 12:28
They strictly enforce Covid-19 measures (a.k. A telling people to put on their masks and cleaning), which makes me feel much safer while I working out! Also, it's super inclusive and well maintained! The environment is so supportive of all people no matter their physical abilities or background.
25 March 2022 20:47
I have been calling all YMCA FITNESS CLUDS and waiting 3 to 6 hours on the phone and nobody will pick up. I been a member for 40 years and this is really bad.

I really liked this gym until a staff named John, who constantly stares at me and tries to talk to me non-stop while I am working out. I do realize that some of the staffs have disabilities and I did not want to say this directly to management as I am not sure if this is considered to be offensive. He is responsible for cleaning the machines, but will wait at somewhere near me when nobody is around and stares. This is really creepy and not going to lie, I have been trying to avoid him as much as possible.

On the first day he asked what my name was, and when I left, he asked if I will be going again the next day. You can call it socialization but it is none of anyone's business to know my schedule, especially I have already expressed I am in a hurry and only want to workout here. I felt like I don't have privacy and I certainly do not want to get creeped on.

Having the lockdown again actually gives me temporary relief, at least I don't have to be bothered and creeped on for a month. I changed my schedule to go to the gym solely to avoid this staff.

This comment post doesn't mean to be offensive or disrespectful. I am stating my experience, and for fellow young ladies - please be aware.

If management ever views this post, please feel free to contact me, as I will be more than happy to provide more details. I would also appreciate if you can tell your staff not to creep on clients. Normal socialization is okay, but not to the extent that one feels their privacy is invaded.

You have to show your gym membership, government ID and proof of vaccination EVERY single time you step in this establishment at the front door. Keep in mind you're already a member and they don't have a system that tells them you've been vaccinated already because they are too incompetent to create one. I'm already vaccinated and you've seen my records confirming it, why do I have to keep showing it every single visit? It's an ok gym but the workers look like they don't even want to be there.
27 September 2021 15:54
I love this gym. It’s just the call system that could do work but I’ve been going to this thing since I was born and I mean literally since I was born. I did preschool here to now and I’m 14. Crazy how time goes by this fast
31 August 2021 18:04
Caller number one for over an hour.ultiple times. It's a pandemic and I need to cancel my membership because they are stealing money from me. I'm just hoping I get off work early enough and don't have to take care of the kids to make my way there in person. Frustrating.

Amazing Place and amazing staff. Lots of variety of programs for all ages. Floor hockey is really well run program. Cecilia, Steve and Donovan are excellent with keeping the programs safe and enjoyable. The track, swimming pool and all other areas are second to none. There is no comparison to other gyms in the GTA. My adult children grew up at the Mississauga Y and this has really made a huge positive impact with them staying fit and active through their early and teen years.

I go once a week for line dancing with my sister and made some great friends. This is all volunteer work by the dedicated instructor Thomas and helpers. The front desk is always willing to help and accomodate with your needs. There is a gym to work out for strenght training, there's a small track to run or walk, there are several gymnasiums for different activities/classes and a pool. Its wheelchair accessible and clean. Location is awesome, walking distance from Mississauga public library, Square One, Living Arts Centre, Celebration Squareand lits more.
16 April 2020 14:47
I would give it a higher rating if it wasn't for the horrendous parking issue. I have to spend half an hour in line to enter the parking lot. That means to get to my kids half an hour swimming class I'm having to leave my house an hr earlier to alot the half an hour in line time. Its absolutely ridiculous and I wish they would do something about it.
13 April 2020 7:38
Very friendly and family oriented place. Brian is a very helpful person and he always tries to listen and take action when required. The place could use abit of clean up specially with the equipment as they seem a bit old.
13 April 2020 6:19
It's busy. Sauna, pool, basketball courts, well equipped weight room, lots of cardio machines, Indoor track and lots of classes. It's hard to beat the value in a YMCA membership.
07 April 2020 14:32
I have been a member of this Y since 2005. It's a busy place with some parking challenges but the people there more than make up for this. I mostly use the pool, love the aquafit instructors and have made acquaintance with several people that attend the classes regularly. The small warmer pool has had issues with it's hydraulic floor over the years but if this happens the classes get accommodated in the big pool which is much appreciated. The fitness schedules are well thought out and improvements to the facilities are done on regular basis.
26 March 2020 18:29
Staff are friendly, and the facility is well maintained. Great atmosphere everytime I visit and good music.
23 March 2020 0:42
Most underrated gym in Mississauga. Transparent pricing, no sneaky contracts, better equipment than $60 a month gyms like LA Fitness. For one, this place has a legit Olympic platform and rubber weights so you can actually deadlift properly without destroying your shins.
20 January 2020 19:06
Huge Place with several floors.keeps you engaged in physical activities. I've learned how to swim here.the staff is very helpful and fun. Pool can be dirty and crowded at peak times.
29 December 2019 3:55
One of the worse YMCAs there is. There's always kids screaming and disgusting filth on the equipment.
Stoney Creek YMCA in London Ontario is far superior than this place.

And also don't bring valuables here. It will get stolen.
03 October 2019 6:34
Got most of my volunteer hours here. It was a fun community experience. I got to meet a lot of new people from diverse cultures with similar attitude for life. I went on a few fun adventures with them. The staff were always polite and helpful.
I would particularly recommend this place to newcomers to Canada or just 'Sauga itself to build a community connection.
Overall a fun experience.

DISGUSTING! Worst gym i have ever been too, so dirty, you have to wait min of 10 minutes to use the machine, because it's always packed. Smells are horrible everywhere, machine are outdated.feel bad for wasting money in this branch. Oakville branch is much much better than this garbage ewwww
06 July 2019 23:16
We are people who wake up so early and go to exercise before going to work. I get there at 5 am during the week for lap swimming. One time there was no heat water which made me leave YMCA because i can't use freezing cold water before/during/after swim. Today Friday June 14th i went and found mainpool is closed! For whatever unknown reason. I need to be informed earlier. I can't make it to YMCA before work and find swimming facility unfunctional. I may just invest those early hours for a better sleep! We need to be informed earlier whether by sms or email. We need someone responsible to contact us earlier than just show up surprise.

Although I have been a member of YMCA Burnamthorpe road for a year, and was a big fan of the facility, as much that I even referred several family friends to YMCA who are regular members now based on my referral, but now I am considering canceling my membership itself.

The reason is some of the employees treat the customers like trash, misbehaving and ordering them around like customers are the ones working for them.

The following happened at around 1 PM on Saturday 04.13.2019.

Situation: my wife, new to Ymca was totally unaware that video chatting is not permitted in the premises. While she was video chatting, an employee named Sam came upto her and literally shouted at her that “you are not allowed to “record” here! ” She further shouted that “my supervisor will come and speak to you! ” She just assumed that my wife was recording or taking pictures and never felt the need to clarify.

5 minutes later the supervisor named Marta arrives and behaves like a cop catching a thief. She continues shouting at my wife saying “we will report you, what is your name, what is your phone number etc! ”

My wife calls me, and when I arrive, Marta begins shouting at me, accusing “your wife took pictures! ” I ask her “can you show me? ” And to which she had no answer! There was another supervisor there and I clearly mentioned to her that I am not going to speak to Marta, which angered Marta even more. Marta (with her eyes practically popping out of the sockets) orders me to follow her to where the policy is mentioned to which I say no since she was angry all the while and I requested the other supervisor to show me the policy.

The policy said “No cellphones and recording equipment allowed. ” And then I proceeded to show her at least two other customers with their cellphones out and then Marta rushed to have them put the phones back in their pockets.

The whole episode ended with the second supervisor apologizing to my wife and that was when I told her that none of this would have happened if the first person if the first employee would’ve just spoke to my wife properly and politely. And Marta just went on saying that my wife took pictures and made videos, all of which she just assumed and blew it all out of proportion and when she was confronted, she had no viable response!

Throughout the last year of my membership, I only met humble and responsible people but I guess all the other reviews about misbehaving employees are true, which I had simply ignored until now.

These people need to realize that people aren’t fools, and are simply not scared when such employees gang up on them. And most of all, people like me will not tolerate any such nonsense and definitely not be intimidated by such arrogant employees at Y.

Serves my purpose for weight training. Could upgrade to new machines, alternatives are available though.
Women's change area is mostly untidy with water everywhere.
Water sprinklers in the bath area have an abnormal high pressure, it hurts, specifically the one on the extreme left.

I once lost my footwear left out, so I can use the washroom and come back, someone stole them in less than 3 minutes LOL
I am just glad they are an old pair!
Just wish more security measures are taken here!

Great Place to workout and relax- they offer lots of group activity and child programs. Staff is certified and highly trained. There pools are good and also provide services to member plus (costly) like gym, sauna, steam, grooming, tea, coffee, etc. They also have 2 weeks trail period.
Please check out once as its is good for kids:) Your Membership will work across GTA.
Thanks YMCA for providing these services.

The pool is disgusting. It constantly looks like someone went swimming with a box of tissues. The lifeguards are more interested with looking at their watches instead of doing their jobs. The let people stand in the middle of the lane swim and block people who are actually there to swim. The members are disrespectful. I quit after only being a member for 2 months because of constant issues with the pool.
The tipping point: being told I was "bad" because of my skin color. Not cool.

I have been a member since 2000 and I wouldn't sign up at any other gym but the Y. The membership price is very reasonable and competitive with other gyms that do not offer nearly as many activities as the Y does. Parking lot can get super busy at peak times and yes the floors can get crowded so for all the haters complaining about the crowds, stop going at peak times. For the other people complaining about theft, well.is it the Y's responsibility to secure your valuables? Unless they provide safety deposit boxes, I believe it would be the user's responsibility to secure one's valuables. It is not like they can install cameras in the change rooms so rule#1 of working out: leave your valuables at home. Not sure why someone would leave hundreds of dollars, electronics, other valuables in their locker unless they carry them with them while working out. It's common sense, not like you leave wallets or purses in your car on plain sight. The same goes for weights being all over the place, I don't think it is the staff's responsibility to clean up after you so if weights and equipment are all over the place is because people are not respecting the common space. Should the Y offer orientation upon sig ing up so people respect other people's boundaries? It's common sense, teaching people to respect people would eliminate 90%of the negative reviews. It is not a Y problem it is a people problem. The Y is amazing so stop hating because of a bad experience caused by somebody else other than staff or building facilities because from my experience they have always been spectacular. They offer vast activities such as: floor hockey, volleyball, soccer, taekwondo, yoga, pilates, spinning classes, badminton, table tennis, swimming pool, personal trainers, free weights, treadmills, elipticals, rowing machines, stairmaster, basketball, several group classes, running track, boxing sack, yoga mats, kettlebells, trx, etc. It is wheelchair accessible and definitely a place you want to be if you want to be healthy. Not your elite gym but an inclusive fitness centre where serving the community is a top priority. I have recommended this place over and over again and everyone I recommend it to signs up. I like it because it is a healthy athletic community that feels everyone feel welcome.

Been here a few times, overall not a bad place. Good for a quick workout. Really, only rating this place is because some of the other negative reviews of this place irk me. Reviews aren't meant to fulfill personal vendettas, they're meant to give an objective analysis of the establishment.
30 January 2019 10:08
This place is the worse place to come to for adults. The gym area is NEVER maintained. Weights are always all over the place which is a massive safety hazard and the stuff is always just sitting in their office. The track has multiple cracks all throughout and I've even seen people trip and fall because of it. For $60+ a membership you'd think this place would be better maintained.

Here a story about what happened on November 23rd approx 7: 30pm at the gym. I have been going to the Y to play badminton and always dress in a t-shirt and shorts and over top I put on a jacket and sweatpants so that when I'm at the gym, I just take off the outer layer and can start playing. I signed up around late october time to try out and see if I'll like it here. The staff is usually nice both at reception and the designated areas but today there was one that was the odd one out. So I walk into the gym with my badminton bag and start to take off my sweatpants and jacket. Then this individual (black, 6', medium build) just comes and says "You know there is a change room here right? " and I looked at him like who are you, I've never seen this person ever. So I tell him "I only took off my jacket and sweatpants, I didnt change here" and then he says "You cant leave your jacket here at the gym, its against the rules". At this point, I was coming here around 2 to 3 weeks and this is the first time ever I'm hearing this. He said it's because of theft reasons that everyone has to leave their stuff like jackets and such in the locker room. BUT he tells me that my badminton bag is okay to stay at the gym but not my clothes. And still, I have no idea who this guy is at all. So I tell him "no, Im not putting my clothes in the locker room" and its because I didnt bring a lock with me and in my opinion its way more uncomfortable leave my stuff inside a unlocked locker than at the gym where I can see it. So based on his tone, and attitude I assumed that he worked there but he didnt think to introduce himself or wear a name badge. So we argue for another few minutes or so about the locker room and such and then he goes tells me "Look, you can go talk to the GM about it. If you didnt know the rule, we can tell you about it". The nerve on this guy, like he thought he owned the place. Im writing down what he said so it doesnt really resonate the "tone" he was using with me but I can tell you, it wasnt a professional tone at all. So okay, I then ask him "can i just put my clothes inside my bag then? I have enough room to put it away" and then he thinks about it and says no. Earlier, he said my bag was fine to stay but I cant put my clothes in my bag? What BS is this? Eventually I get sick of this guy and his "rules" and I told him Im going home at this rate and he, with a smirk on his face, says "okay". Honestly at that point, screw this guy and Im never coming back to this place but one of my buddies was there and he was telling me to stay and wait until his shift is over and told me I can put my clothes inside his locker. And I did stay for few more minutes and the same guy comes back and noticed that there was a jacket underneath the bench. He asks around if it belonged to anyone but no one replied. So he literally grabbed the jacket and tossed it outside. My buddy then asks if thats any safer than being inside the gym and then he talks about the rules again and says this "you know what, we encourage "walkers" here at the YMCA". And by walker, he meant people who "walk" out from the Y. And that was the final thing which made me go up to the reception to cancel future membership and talked to the upper management about this guy. His name was "Josh" or "Joshua" and I only know his name because my buddy knew and he told me. Honestly, I dont expect this guy to get fired but at least teach this guy some lessons on manners and customer service. He may have worked there for a long time but you dont speak to your "clients" in that manner. So there it is, I'm one of the "walkers" that he was gloating about. Honestly like 99% of people working here is nice, but 1 person can screw up everything.

The swimsuit dryers have been broken from this summer and steam room has been out of order for weeks. Nobody really cares about the maintenance.just charge the membership fee right?
