We were first time home buyers, and I work for one of the major Canadian banks. We talked with the bank agents and also with Eric Lamy, as an independent mortgage agent. Although the bank offered employee rates, Eric offered rates that were not far off. We chose Eric's slightly higher rates because even during the shopping period we could see the difference in the level of service. We thought this will translate into fewer surprises down the line.
