Ordered the food for over 1.5 hour (we wrote it in a piece of paper), then realized they completely have no idea of what we’ve ordered. Even though we reminded them several times to check with the kitchen. By the time we left (2hrs after we ordered food), there are still 4 dishes that are not brought to us.
They are supposed to use the first few layers of a lettuce. They gave a lettuce heart for Peking duck wrap. This shows how the restaurant shortcut its customers and gave inferior quality.
I would give zero star for the attitude of the waitress (lady with short hair and super red lipstick on) if there’s an option. I ordered a roasted duck combo. I went to the reception desk and told the waitress the order number. She didn’t say a word and then talked to another customer politely as the other customer had a huge order of food. When it’s my turn, she said to me ‘why you still didn’t pay for it? Your receipt is there. ’ Apparently she put the receipt on the other side of the reception counter and didn’t tell me the receipt was mine. I didn’t know the receipt was mine as at the time she was talking to the other customer. I was shocked by her attitude but I didn’t talk back.
After I paid, I asked to confirm if I got the freebies (promotion: free bbq pork after $60). Her attitude was even worse. This time I couldn’t tolerate her attitude anymore so I talked back. She realized she was over and told me the freebie is already in my order.
To the owner: does good customer service only apply to customers who order huge amount of food? Your staff attitude is absurd.
It was a Friday night. I actually called during lunch to reserve a table for 6 for 6: 45pm. When I got to the restaurant, my name was not on the reservation list! Lucky the staff trust me and still honour me a table for 6 within 15 mins wait. The food was overall delicious. The restaurant is new and bright. The service was just ok!
Food was delicious and came out very fast on a Friday evening around 6: 30PM. Short 5 minute wait and we were quickly seated. The AC in the summer blasts quite strongly so remember to wear layers if you tend to get cold. Service was average as expected, but nothing to complain about. We also got free desserts which was yummy. Overall I really enjoyed the food and will come back!
I've always enjoyed exploring new places to dine so when my friend, @jenltraveltoeat, suggested we go to Mr. Congee after work, it didn't take much arm twisting.
This location, in Markham, hasn't been open very long, maybe about a month. It has a bright, very attractive interior with classy furniture and fixtures. They even have private rooms for small groups. Very nice!
We ordered from their Afternoon Tea Combo menu - Grilled Squid Skewers, Deep Fried Chicken Wings in Dry Fish Sauce, Fried Chili Turnip Patties, and Fried Rice Noodle w/Beef & Soya Sauce. Everything was good but the squid stood out as our favourite. It was perfectly cooked and very flavourful.
Beverages were included so we chose the Fresh Red Bean Freeze with Ice Cream, and Iced Pineapple drink. Both were very refreshing.
With their good food, decent prices, very attractive decor, and good service, Mr. Congee is definitely worthy of a return visit!
Food from the kitchen was pretty good. Came quickly. I was disappointed with the BBQ pork. It was tough and dry. Some pieces were sweet and others salty. Service was alright. They seemed to be short handed. Place was nicely lit. Unfortunately our table wasn't level and rocked.
I used to visit the Mr. Congee in Scarborough in thee past. But now since this one is closer to home, I started coming here. The food is delicious with big portion. The discounted food offered at afternoon tea is amazing, size remains big but just with lower price. Service is not bad. Overall is good and for sure will come back.
This is real authentic Cantonese style cuisine. It's not like other restraunts such as Congee Queen which is the non-Chinese think authentic Chinese food. Don't get me wrong, Congee Queen is also good but just not our favor. Lol. The service is very good! I speak Cantonese so I can feel home here.
First time visit to this Mr. Congee location. Was surprised to see a sneaky charge of $1. There are other restaurants to dine in you know. Off my radar with sneaky businesses.
Food is okay. Nothing special. Dishes are small compared to other places that cost the same. Servers are passively disrespectful but also have no idea what they’re doing and constantly got our order wrong/brought the wrong item. They even charged us for extra things on the bill that we never received/ordered. Sad to say now I understand why they are only rate 3.1 which is pretty awful. Never coming back again.
Have a quick lunch at this newly opened Mr. Congee Restaurant. Happy to see the grand renovation with a new entrance that is more easy to access. The lunch set is great and their Congee is always good.
-Food came quick. First 2 dishes (BBQ duck and beef stir fry flat noodles) within 16 minutes and the latter 2 dishes (beef and veggies, and oysters) in 7 minutes afterwards. -All items came in adequate portions. -All items were fairly priced, relative to other restaurants.
Food -Feedback: - Duck and oysters were less fragrant than those in similar restaurants. -Oyster were smaller than those in similar restaurants, and extra batter was used to increase the size slightly. -Beef in stir fry was slightly dry. Stir fry could use more “wok” flavor. This opinion should be taken with caution, as we asked for less oil.
Environment: -Busy on Christmas Day, but was still able to get seating within 15 minutes. -Brightly lit environment with comfortable seating. -Seating towards centre of the restaurant is catered towards tables of 8+ people, while seating on side is for 4 people. -The 4 person tables appear spacious but the 8 person tables appear quite tight next to each other. -Very clean environment (in my opinion, more clean than similar restaurants such as Congee Queen).
Staff: -Staff are very friendly and assisted to provide recommendations. -Staff members are hustling so huge respect to these workers.
Service is very poor, the dishes are below standard. Service attitude: the soup is not divided for the customers, and the customers have to divide the soup themselves. We have more a dozen people, this basic soup sharing service cannot be done. She just drop the soup and left, never came back. This is not seen in other Cantonese restaurants. There is also the passing of food is simply chaotic, no order. The Peking sliced duck skin is not cut in front of the customer, other Cantonese restaurants are cut in front of the customer. The duck skin is not served even after the second food is served. We explained the situation to the person who is passing the food and tried to find out where our duck skin went, but they said it was the waiter's business, not theirs. We wanted her to take the food back and double check, but she kept saying that it was none of his business and had to put the food down. We almost had a argument with that person during a birthday celebration. So why can’t you just take the food back and double check? Let them help to refill the water is also, two hands flung directly said let us go to the waitress. But we are in a private room, the waitress really rarely come in to see us, so can not help us call the waitress? In the end, we went out of the room to call the waitress. Everyone was excusing themselves and not willing to help, so if that's the case, I suggest the restaurant owner switch to robot food delivery. Overall, this service attitude is very poor, not suitable for people in a good mood to eat, because your good mood for the day will be ruined, thinking why am I getting such an attitude while I still need to give tips.
Food: The dishes are below average. The eel fried rice is really unexpected. I thought it was eel and rice fried together, but I didn't expect it to be fried rice with a few eels on top. To be honest, I didn't recognize this dish as eel fried rice when it came up. There was also a fish casserole that had little meat in it. Pork belly chicken with sauerkraut is very strange. Overall, this restaurant's foods do not worth a ride to the restaurant.
Surprised by the low rating for this newly opened and franchised restaurant.
Although I did find a long piece of hair in my congee at first scoop.
Did find their dishes either a bit on the salty side or too much MSG.
Great portion. Spacious and bright environment. Servers were nice. We came for dinner and they still offered us a big table enough for 5 even though it's just the two of us.
BBQ pork 叉燒 was ok, not fat enough. The 燒肉 skin didn't match the meat but ok too. Skin was crispy.
Congee. Again I found a hair. But tasty, good texture and good portion.
星洲炒蘿蔔糕 was a bit disappointing, the turnip cake could be more flavourful. The chicken and accompaniment were too salty. But fresh, hot and crispy.
Definitely room for improvement throughout, but not bad.
Service was very good. Food was OK for the price. Had Pork Liver congee which was disappointing flavor wise. Did not have much pieces of liver in congee unfortunately. Also had Soy sauce noodles which good at least.
Food taste is ok, food in dishes smaller than others 2 places. Very bad service. Spend $80 for 2 person, I tipped $10, waiting 10 minutes and the waitress doesn’t even want to give us the dessert. All the waiters here seems sleeping, pretending not seeing you when you calling. This place is cash only, and gives you $2 discount even bill says 5% discount.
