Ordered through Skip. Jerk chicken was horrible. I requested oxtail gravy on the rice, they drowned the entire meal with some kind of gravy. This is just bland sub par food. Maybe chef was having a bad day, so I guess I get a bad meal. I had high hopes, but first and last for me.
Had the Curry Goat Roti and Jerk Pork Sandwich, only regret is that I haven't been there before. Great taste, spice, portions and price, friendly staff.
Best Jamaican food I ever had absolutely down for this place great island food rice and peas anyone great portions and the prices are great don’t walk there run awesome food yummy
I like their food combination as a whole. Chicken, rice with beans and vegetables, all combined together as a dinner set in harmony. Can't say their Chicken is the best but definitely above average. Next time will try their pork and ox tail.
Not good, new owners, food doesn't taste as good as before, the guy was pretty rude when i asked for no potatoes in my soup he said i get what comes up.won't be going back unless old chef comes back
Food doesn't taste good anymore maybe because they have new owners and new chef, I usually get the jerk pork which was amazing before now it's so dry with little jerk flavor also tried the jerk chicken which was garbage
Pretty good little joint for some basic jerk chicken.other stuff is probably good I wouldn't know I don't dabble further than what I know sometimes. Nicely priced, nothing to bark at, the jerk chicken was ok. No cole slaw this time, could be better, very plain. It's your average jerk chicken place. Very friendly staff
This place was a staple in the area for me when their 1/4 chicken dinner was $7.99 but they've raised the prices up twice within the past year. Now it's close to $11. The first raise was understandable, I spoke to them and the reason is because their rent was jacked up. But still now I'm not so sure if it's still worth it after they've also changed their portions in new containers (seems to be a bit less). I used to be a weekly customer, then monthly.now a lot less. Chicken patties are still bomb but if you combine that with the dinner it comes to $14-15, used to be $11-12 so you're getting less food but you pay more.
Their Chicken patties are good but felt duped for the chicken roti I ordered. Not enough stuffing inside and it's $14.50, it was very dry, and when I mentioned how the other shop gives more curry, the person said "good for him"
This Mr.jerk is one of my favourites and authentic to the taste. It's been around forever 20+ years, maybe more. The oxtail, Jerk pork, jerk chicken - the seasoning is tasty, balanced, and the meat is tender, and juicy (crispy on pork edges). The coleslaw is vinegar based, not too tangy - very good. The ackee and salt fish is good, not too salty. Festival balls are soft and crispy, not too oily. The cod fritters are tasty but they are very oily unfortunately. Patties are great. The customer service is amazing. They also threw in a free "Pink Ting" (sparking grapefruit drink) last time I visited. Another time when they forgot to include the coleslaw, someone dropped it off at my address which was very much appreciated. This is my local Carribean spot but IMO one of the best in the city.
Chicken curry was extremely spicy like fire to the point where I could not eat it and I don't think that's normal or healthy for anybody so warning to everybody on this place. Service was horrible waited too long which was very frustrating. Never going back again and price on beef patties increased which is a joke when hardly any meat in them. Waste of money for sure. I think better to cook your own food for sure. Im not taking the risk of trying other items here who knows what you will get.
Finally got in to try the jerk dinner and a piece of fried chicken. Both were absolute perfection! Plus, I was expecting to pay almost twice as much, and that still would have felt this positive about it.
Pretty good little joint. Nicely priced, nothing special or extra, the jerk chicken was delicious. The cole slaw could be better, very plain. It's your average jerk chicken place
Great food! Got the Jerk Pork dinner with a festival on the side. Food was awesome and the guy and the store was really cheery and chatty. Very affordable as well, must try!
See heres the thing. Ive been eating rotis everyehere for 40 years.
Mr. Jerk has been doing it since they were on dundas and yonge like waay back in the day. Their rotis are good in the way that its generously filled w a tasty sauce and lots of dark chix meat and potatoes. But the drawback is they dont make their skins in house, and they nuke their dalpooris.
Rori royale, on Bathurst once upon a time was like the best. They made their own dalpooiris a la minute, and the stuffing of chix and potato was fire. Like that. They closed long ago. Ghandi on queen is great. The curry inside the roti is sublime. However the product has a really limited amount of protein. In the case of their chix roti, theres really only a bit of pulled chix breast. Alberts on queen is great.
For years I have been eating here. Loved the food. A couple of weeks ago I had the usual jerk chicken dinner and it was tasteless. I noticed management changed and thought I would give them another try, as the staff is friendly. But once again, it is tasteless. So sad, lost a place I loved to go to.
Great food, but once the chicken breast was very dry. Other then that o e time it's always been my go to! I absolutly love the people in here they never ask about a mask, except one time but I declared exemption and was able to get wonderful food, how ever they only allow 3 people in-store at a time and it's hard to hear the people due to all the plexy glass placed up everywhere.
They o Ly offer take out, not dine in, and they are hiring right now too.
This place is just awesome! We were visiting from Chicago and happened to drive by Mr. Jerk. We noticed the line of local people waiting in front. This made us want to stop for some food. This was a great decision as we met the nicest owner who served some very delicious food. The place is simple and small but the food and service were amazing! I would highly recommend to anyone who wants an authentic local experience.
The best Jamiacan food in town is at this location (at Mr. Jerk). The Jerk Chicken is my favorite, and it is the most delicious in the city. I highly recommend you to pay a visit and buy a take-out meal at Mr. Jerk, and you won't regret it. Peace out!
I heard this place was one of the best in the city so I had to try it! The guy serving was so incredibly kind and cool! He gave me extra jerk chicken when I told him I was from Vancouver and he told me they’re a family run and owned business (which I absolutely love) and he even threw in a beef patty for me as well to try?
The food was SUPER delicious, every single item was very nice and satisfying, great portion (I got the jerk dinner, a piece of fried fish, and the beef patty) and such a great price as well.
What can I say, when you are this good they call you Mr! All I can tell you about this place is there is always a lineup and I don’t know anybody who waits for bad food. Don’t judge this place by the area as it is a gem if you like jerk.
I got the oxtail which is pretty good dish, the gravy is nice and flavourful and portion wise you will not be hungry. The patties are great here as well so don’t forget to add one of those to your order. Worth the trip and worth the wait for this ‘mom and pop’ place.
Tried this place because I was going by and they looked like they'd have good food. And they did. And the people working there were very friendly. I got the classic for any jerk store, quarter chicken with rice & peas with coleslaw. It was $7.99 and I got a cream soda with it, included in the price. Again, staff was very friendly. Complimented my t-shirt, which, to be fair, it is a great shirt. They also gave me many napkins
Wow I can’t believe Mr.jerk is closed after 20 years with this NEW owner. The location was inspected on July 16 when it was shut down for two crucial infractions including failing to protect food from contamination and maintaining their premise in a manner permitting health hazard. There was also one minor in fraction for failure to ensure equipment surface was sanitized as necessary…. So disappointed for our community this was a staple in the neighbourhood.
A colleague recommended that I visit this place! Fantastic eats and the price is a bonus. Got lunch for $11! Lots of food and the chicken was seasoned deliciously and as you can see they were generous with the portions. Will be back if I’m ever in the area!
Probably my fav place in T. O.to go for jerk chicken. I was told the owner has now retired but assured it's still the same great tasting recipe and it was as good as I remember from 20+ yrs ago!
Such a disappointment. Went in for oxtail about 20 minutes ago- spentv12$ on 8 pieces of bone. The food was hard- oxtail should not be hard. My husband picked it up with a sandwich and the pork is completely overcooked and hard. Horrible food but the unfortunate thing is that people will still go back.
Update 2021: they offer credit and debit options now!
Original review: There are only two things I order from here and they're both pretty good; the fried chicken (which is available for about $2/pc) and the delicious jerk pork which they sell by the pound. The meals are a total ripoff.since I live 30 seconds away I just put rice in my rice cooker, walk down to Mr jerk and when I come back home the rice is ready and I eat. Avoid the jerk chicken as it's really sub-par. If they'd join the rest of Toronto in the 21st century and start accepting debit or credit card I'd upgrade my rating to a 4*!
Very well organised and convenient place. They serve big portions and for economical rates. I enjoyed the meals very much and the waiters were very attentive and chatty. Recommended.
Was in the neighborhood for work, passed by this spot and decided to try it. The most friendly customer service in Toronto at this establishment. Ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and it was delicious. The lady working was kind enough to give me a small sample of the jerk pork as I've never been in the restaurant before or tried anything. Its the kind gestures such as this that will keep me as a repeat customer!
The food is always well prepared and flavorful, workers gives excellent customer service. I love the cleanliness and character. I highly recommend this place.
Really enjoyed the beef stew dinner and the jerk pork sandwich. Great flavours and good sized portions. The staff is very nice. My only disappointment is that the menu needs to be updated. Chinese menu options are not available.
I get to eat here a lot since I work close by. I must say their customer service is always great and they keep the place well organized regularly. Prices are fair and they serve sizeable portions.
The food here is wayyyy too good to be legal! It’s insane how delicious it is.the patties are my favourite in the city and the jerk chicken meals are BOMB! Everything you want in a place with a diverse menu, good prices and awesome staff.best drink selection too ever! Come to find out the secrets gems they have
I absolutely love this place for authentic Jamaican, for Jerk Chicken and pretty much anything Caribbean for take out food. It's a tiny hole in the wall, but the food is definitely worth the trip and I try to go whenever I'm in the area. Very friendly staff, excellent food and great prices. Specials everyday. Highly recommended!
The food is consistently well prepared and delicious, employees hands out great service. I really like how clean it is and character. I highly recommend this place.
The portion sizes are very generous, especially for their daily specials which are all under $10! The lady owner is also one of the loveliest people I've met.
Unfortunately, my jerk chicken was very mediocre. It didn't have the "fall off the bones" tenderness, the skin was a bit too charred for my liking, and the rice was clumpy. The gravy didn't have any sort of kick to it and everything felt rather bland.
There was nothing special about what I ate, but the value I got for it was unbeatable. If you're not too picky about your meal, this is a great lunch spot.
This place is the one I like best. I eat in many restaurants but to this restaurant I constantly return again and again. The crew is very amicable and the cuisine they offer is so fresh and tasty. I am always happy to have a nice dinner here. I recommend this place with pleasure.
Something about their rice and peas was oddly sweet and too wet. Their jerk chicken too was oddly sweet. Seems like their recipe is toned down for the Toronto audience but the true Jamaican flavours are not really strong. They use too much sugar when cooking their staples. Would not go back.
I got the jerk chicken dinner, with a fried dumpling and "our compliments" coca cola.
First, I asked for coke.but surprisingly, I enjoyed that the most out of the meal. The dumpling was very large, but lacked any sort of sugar content. Then the jerk chicken, I asked for extra gravy, which I received, however; the entire contents of the food tasted very bland and had next to no spice.it is too bad though because I had high hopes for this little joint.
Absolutely the best Jamaican Caribbean cuisine that I've had in the city of Toronto and that's GTA as well. All winds is closed but still mr. Jerk does a great job! I must try is the lunch special. Everyday is different
Great Jamaican food place. I find that when you order the goat curry, you get more meat and less bones in person rather then ordering through delivery apps. Excellent catering option and I find the food is at it's best when ordered in a big batch. Parking can be tough to find near the restaurant.
The menu and service were ahead of our expectations. We surely enjoyed the ambience of this restaurant. Fantastic spot to take the family out for dinner.
This restaurant offers extraordinary service as well as yummy meals. One of the best spot around town. The food and drinks served fast and the prices were economical. Recommended.
Must try the Jerk pork and oxtail! Owner is very nice too. Great people. I heard this place has been around more than 25 years! That's crazy! Food has to be good
Just to let you guys know that I'm a serious food lover which means I'm not a picky eater! Their food (jerk chicken) was taste less less! Not going there again. The worse!
