I went to this place with my wife and ordered veggies sushi for her and Nigiri for me as well as deep fried tofu and Grilled Hamachi, each dish was well presented and delicious.

Incredible. Hubby and I finally got to trying this neighborhood spot out and we were blown away. Food was delicious, fresh and creative. Salmon sushi was all fresh and delicious, best we've had in Canada. Their gyoza ravioli is a creative treat! And the decor! Bathrooms are gorgeous and the restaurant feels like a true Japanese oasis in the heart of Scarborough.
Oh! And I forgot to mention, I'm allergic to salmon (anaphylactic) so I rarely get to enjoy veg sushi without stress, staff were incredibly considerate and even tho my hubby ordered salmon at the same time (we've never done that before) I didn't even get a tingle. That means they have great food safety practices and an impeccably clean kitchen!
We will be new regulars

NAKAMORI Sushi is the best sushi restaurant in town. It's family owned. Sushi master/chef is so creative and always have FRESH ingredients. I also love the little details to enhance the looks and flavours of the all the dishes that he serves. I ask my husband to buy my sushi here after my recent labour. OH HOW I MISSED SUSHI from Nakamori after those 9 long months.
04 June 2023 4:57
Food was great. Flavors were great. Not enough lobster in the lobster ramen.
A bit on the higher prices end, but it's good quality.
Worth a try

We visited here on a Saturday evening for the Omakase, and it was simply amazing.
The omakase was consisted of 9 small appetizers, grilled fish, meat dish, sushi & sashimi plate and dessert.
The amount was just right, and we enjoyed every single item, especially their raw fish stuff and jerk chicken karaage were to die for!

As Japanese, I am super happy to find an authentic Japanese-owned restaurant like this.

The service was amazing too, every server who served us was friendly and attentive.
I highly appreciate their effort to keep the service and the quality of food fantastic!

Can't wait for our next visit

One of those underrated restaurants that you can find. The food and presentation are nice while the taste is satisfactory. It is understandable that they accidentally charged for a wrong order but human error is abundant. This is a good place.
17 April 2023 13:36
A mind-blowing meal and an exceptional experience! My wife bought me the full-on tasting menu with matched sake for each course, as my Christmas present. Absolutely the best Japanese food we've ever had! Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and knowledgable about the food and the sake. Just a great two hour meal in our own little Japanese room. It wasn't inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. The only thing that could have made the experience even better, would have been authentic Japanese music in the background.
We'll definitely be back.

It is so nice to eat in a Japanese restaurant that is actually owned by Japanese people and the chef and staff are all Japanese. So many other so called 'Japanese restaurants' i the GTA are run by and staffed with Chinese or Korean people. That does not make for an authentic Japanese cultural experience. The food here is delicious and the staff are warm and friendly. FIVE STARS!
09 April 2023 8:02
The servers and chef were all so friendly and hospitable. Next time we go, we're going to try the omakase!
27 March 2023 19:22
This is one of the few great Japanese restaurants in Scarborough. I saw it online and had to give it a try. The waiter was very friendly and provided great recommendations for the food. We ordered the sake flight, the temaki 3 way (hand rolls), the eel based signature roll, the beef curry and gyoza ravioli. Finally we chose the creme Brulee for dessert. This was by far my favorite hand rolls and creme Brulee that I have had compared to other restaurants. You just have to give it a try! The sake selection was unique to Toronto brewer Izumi sake and very tasty so I wanted to give that a shout out as well.
20 March 2023 6:26
Truly one of the hidden gems of Scarborough. All the dishes were excellent and I felt satisfied but not too bloated or full. The jerk chicken karage should be the dish of Toronto as it’s a perfect blend of two prominent cultures and cuisines that every Torontonian would appreciate.
28 January 2023 22:10
Been coming here for years. The quality of the fish and ingredients are always top notch and never disappoint. The friendly server Kakaru is knowledgeable and always smiling. The Chef Nobu's skills are on par with some of the Michelin star restaurants in the city. Highly recommend giving this place a try. You will be addicted and always return.

Truly a one of a kind experience dining at Nakamori Japanese Restaurant. Superior quality, taste, originality and presentation of Chef Nakamori’s creations will bring you back to try all the menu has to offer. Highly recommended the seafood miso soup! I’ll be back again this week:)
23 December 2022 15:47
I pity everyone who drives by this plaza not knowing that it’s home to easily some of the best sushi in Scarborough.

The lobster ramen was phenomenal and overall we had a great time. One day I’d love to come back and try the omakase here.
09 December 2022 11:29
Used to work here as a server and a cook for a year several years before COVID happened.

Every ingredient, desserts, sauce, meat, fish, and everything else that are served on customer's plate are very carefully, freshly prepared or homemade, handpicked by Chef Nobu and his awesome wife Chiaki-san. Even ice creams are made in-house.

I've seen and learned from the Chef, of how much work and prep is done every day in between morning, lunch and dinner, and in my opinion, this justifies the price of the menu and it is worth every dollar.

Call me biased, but if you stop by Scarborough area, please stop by and give it a try yourself.

The recipes and their ingredients by Chef Nobu are drawn out by exact measures to give equally tasting food for every single plate to every customers.

Chef Nobu is a perfectionist when it comes to his menu and takes pride in his food and what goes on his customer's plate.

To experience Japanese-fusion culinary under Chef Nobu is definitely one of the highlights in my life.

Give this restaurant a go when you're near Scarborough!
20 November 2022 23:08
Decent "fusion" japanese restaurant.little bit on the salty side for japanese food.very good sake selection.excellent chocolate souffle.omakaze requires 24 hours in advance so book accordingly.
10 November 2022 15:04
Good food but SMALL portions and rather expensive.

Sushi & Sashimi deluxe plate was over $60 (surcharge for special role). For this price you would think it would feed at least two people. Nope. Not even close.
26 August 2022 12:42
Wow, blown away. Had the tuna tataki and a signature salmon roll, super fresh and yummy. Pleasantly surprised that there’s a place like this in Scarborough
08 August 2022 20:25
The food was very delicious, and the service was excellent! I will come back for more food again!
08 August 2022 17:44
Went here for lunch yesterday and it was absolutely wonderful. The staff was friendly, I adored the decor and the food was to die for. Will definitely go back.
18 July 2022 12:45
Food was delicious and the Tiramisu was lovely! Great service and enjoyed the intimate atmosphere.
29 June 2022 17:43
Okay…seriously…This place is just amazing. Just had the omakase tasting and was blown away.

No idea this place existed at all but I’m glad I found this gem.

If you’re looking for a culinary experience in Japanese cuisine this is the place to go!

The quality of fish was phenomenal. Just melts in your mouth. The matcha tiramisu left me speechless, and as a pastry chef I hold desserts to a much higher standard. One of the best tasting foods I have ever eaten. So simple yet done so right.

I usually don’t write reviews like this but the restaurant exceeded my satisfaction and I am compelled to share my experience to show my gratitude.
12 June 2022 6:20
Nakamori is cozy, cool and calm. The ramen and sushi were great. Their menu has something for everyone and the staff is so friendly. Definitely coming back here again and again.
19 May 2022 7:16
Went there for dinner after an X-ray appointment friendly welcoming staff incredibly fresh well made food easily the best California rolls I have ever had very flavourful miso soup will definitely order again only thing I would like to see are a few more vegetarian options yam tempura would be amazing other than that it’s perfect!
11 May 2022 5:23
Visited this place for the first time a few years ago, but I personally thought it wasn’t anything special but my bf loved it (especially their Jerk Chicken Wings) so we decided to come back again and, well… I was mind blown! The sushi was so fresh, their miso Caesar salad is a must as well, the jerk chicken wings was tender and full of flavour! You also have to try their sushi best, defs one of the best in the city! The only thing, I thought was their hand rolls were kinda pricey… overall a 2nd time there and my opinion definitely changed!
28 April 2022 0:17
Wow! Easily the best sushi I've had in Toronto! The flavours were exceptional and loved the techniques used. Started with sashimi and the jerk spiced karaage. As other reviewers have mentioned the tuna is fantastic! Loved the mango aioli on top! Shared the spicy Salmon, soft shell crab, spicy lobster California and butter teriyaki scallop rolls. All four were fabulous but the soft shell crab was extraordinary. Also tried the beef keema curry - comfort food in a bowl! For dessert we tried the green tea tiramisu and chocolate souffle. Once again - fantastic! Service is impeccable. Only negative of the night was questioning why we didn't come sooner! Highly recommend!
09 April 2022 6:44
Brought the gf here for the omakase experience. Loved it from the first course. First course was like an appetizer sampler, second miso soup with you and seafood was delish. Salmon, wagyu beef and a nigiri, sashimi plate rounded of the meal. Chocolate souffle was decadent and not too sweet. We crushed everything. Had a drink with sake and hot apple cider which got me in a nice mood. Omakase was impressive at this unassuming scarborough gem.

Host/server was real nice. And showed genuine excitement that we like the drinks.

All in all, impressed with food and service. I would return.
30 March 2022 15:14
A hidden gem in the heart of Scarborough. Price is on the higher side, but this reflects the high quality of seafood served. Very accommodating staff and good attention to detail. Pleasant experience overall and I will certainly return for another meal.
24 February 2022 21:18
Absolutely amazing. Food was great. The presentation was marvelous. Staff are polite. Service was awesome. Definitely recommended. This won't be our last time coming here.
06 December 2021 12:00
While the place itself lacks the high-end ambiance (which is not necessarily a bad thing), the food and the service were outstanding.
I thought I didn't like tuna until I tried it here. The presentation was also noteworthy, I felt like we were dining at a Michelin star restaurant. It's a bit pricey, but considering the food quality, quite worth it.
02 November 2021 11:56
Very nice little Japanese eatery in a non-descript strip mall at Eglington & The Danforth. Lovely staff take very good care of you.
27 October 2021 16:08
I love it! - Jerk Karaage, Gyoza Ravioli and Tempura Fish & Chips. Amazing comfort food for me!
20 October 2021 3:43
Food was incredible, staff was incredible. Absolutely loved our take out meal and we wish we could give this 6 stars.
29 June 2021 13:01
Had sushi and a few apps today. The food was amazing wish I tried this place sooner. Loved the Gyoza Ravioli.
04 June 2021 0:17
If you're looking for some authentic Japanese cuisine in Scarborough, you will love this place. A bit on the pricier side but go what you pay, you get the best in class!
10 April 2021 9:17
This place is my favorite place. Of all restaurants I know I like it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to visit this place. Whenever I feel like having a fair meal, this place comes straightaway to my head. Great and all kinds of food and a large menu.trained team, and good atmosphere. Also important, the price is honest. I praise this place with great pleasure.
24 March 2021 7:02
I call this marvelous place every couple of days as I like the special atmosphere that is unique to this restaurant. The staff is exceptionally attentive and experienced. The service is certainly quick. Needless to say, the food they prepare is magnificent. I visited often and I was always satisfied. The rate is decent. I highly recommend this place to to everybody.
03 July 2019 6:52
A totally different experience with Japanese food. I had the rib ramen, it was excellent. I also tried the Miso icecream, probably one of the best icecream I ever had.
30 June 2019 18:17
This was my second time at Nakamori and after my first sip of the Sake Politan, I was reminded that I should visit more often. Something that stands out with Nakamori is that its menu isn’t a long list of rolls & dishes making it easy (kind of) to choose a dish that matches your mood. I’ve never ordered a cocktail from Nakamori before and was encouraged to do so after seeing what landed on the table when two of my friends ordered them. I chose the Sake Politan, which truly had just the right balance of tart (cranberry, lime) and sweet. For my appetizer, I got the Spicy Black Bean Edamame. Nakamori doesn’t do soybeans like most places, as these beans were drenched in a black bean, chili, and garlic sauce, which surprisingly did add some flavour even through the shell. The menu says these are roasted but I’m sure they were boiled/steamed. For my roll, I ordered the spicy lobster, which I would describe as very mild. I’m not someone who eats spicy food regularly but I don’t consider anything spicy if I’m not reaching for a glass of water between bites. The food presentation was enticing and I found myself making notes of other dishes to try as the servers placed the dishes of my dining partners on the table. Nakamori’s interior ambiance is completely unexpected especially considering its bland facade. When you walk in you’re likely to be greeted with a soundtrack of reggae music. Yes, that’s right reggae music in a Japanese restaurant. As their site says Nakamori is “a bit Scarborough, a bit Japanese” and I think the music choice was a nice touch to what was a delicious dining experience.
27 June 2019 7:08
Cozy spot. Lovely presentation of dishes. Well balanced flavours. The specialty cocktails were yummy (Yuzi & lime, nice and tart; at our table we each tried a different cocktail and everyone enjoyed theirs).
The Butter Teriyaki Scallop and the Sashimi app made for a nice light meal. The scallop roll was buttery, smooth, savoury. The sashimi was lovely and fresh. The Spicy Black Bean Edamame were a lovely warm take on a staple. The other guests meals also looked yummy, I would enjoy trying other options.
Not a huge selection on the menu, but nice options. I did find the prices high for several options. One of our guests (table of 8) did not receive their food (Chilled Soba – Crispy Tofu) until long after everyone else, which was a shame.
07 June 2019 14:28
Had dinner with a large group on April 27,2019. Ordered the chirashi dinner, which came with miso soup and a side salad. The ratio of fish to rice was excellent. Slices of fresh, succulent seafood were layered upon and around the small bed of rice. Raw toppings included: salmon, tuna, scallop, saba/makerel, uni/sea urchin, surf clam, squid, and some kind of white fish (halibut?). Cooked toppings included: tamago/egg roll, eel, shrimp. The colourful variety and artful plating made the dish visually appealing. The rice was delicately seasoned and tasty. The food quality was excellent but hungry customers may need to order additional food. The one slightly sour note to the meal was the eel, which was dried up (overcooked?) and not tasty. Servers were polite and came when we called. Parking is available but limited.

Areas that could be improved upon:
1) I love raw fish and understand that Japanese entrees generally don't come with vegetables. Usually, I will order additional vegetables as appetizers to go with my meal. However, there was limited selection (edamame with black bean sauce, tempura vegetables) and neither dish suited me this evening. The side salad provided wasn't enough to satisfy my need for veggies with meal.
2) They charge $2 for tea, which is complimentary at other Japanese restaurants. The charge is acceptable; not telling customers that there is a charge is not. Given that they are charging for tea, I would expect the tea pot to be refreshed without customers having to ask. The tea was cold by the time our meals arrived and the pot wasn't refreshed until we asked for our bills.
3) The dining experience would have been more comfortable if all of the plates/bowls from the appetizer/soup had been cleared away before the main entrees were served. The serving plates are large (which makes for a nice presentation) but some of them take up the entire width of the table, leaving very little room on the table.
4) One member of our group did not receive their entree until everyone else had finished eating. The staff were apologetic and let the guest know (several times) that the food was coming, but it's still disappointing and awkward when that happens.
05 June 2019 2:48
Great staff, great food and awesome restaurant design. The chef is always there greeting customers and making fresh sushi on the spot. The only downside for this hidden gem is the location and the prices are a little high.
25 May 2019 9:36
I happened to come across this sushi/omakse joint in Scarborough so came for dinner as a birthday celebration. I emailed them on the day of to reserve a table and omakase in advance without any trouble. The place is small but clean and ambiance was cozy. Their food tho was underwhelming and overall mediocre. I had the 7 course omakase and there were some highlights but nothing in particular that has a wow factor. The service was decent. Due to the distance of where this joint is located, I will unlikely return.
20 May 2019 20:13
Great meal. Wife and I had the 7 course omakase and we were impressed. Of the 7 courses the only let down was the salmon. Highlights included the steak rice bowl, jerk karage and the desserts. The sesame icecream was the best we have ever had. We didn't give the restaurant five stars because the flavors were a bit monotonous with an acidic tone (balsamic, yuzu, citrus.etc) to most dishes. While refreshing and interesting it was a bit too much of it for us. Interestingly the special edition Izumi Nakamori Sake pairs very well with the acidic tone of the food. We were full and happy and price point was great given the food and service we received.
19 May 2019 12:31
The salmon poke was phenomenal! Super fresh, just picked miniature garden with delicious salmon on bed of rice! Hidden gem despite exterior strip plaza. Will be back! Also, had a fabulous homemade chocolate basil ice cream!
07 May 2019 4:08
Food is always on point, same with presentation. Everyone is friendly. I would go here any chance I get if I'm around the area.
05 May 2019 23:59
Unlike any other Japanese restaurant you've been to and probably the most hidden gem of the GTA! With a sushi chef trained in Japan at the hem, he cranks out crazy japanese fusion and pure japanese dishes: Seafood ceviche taco with yuzu sauce, seafood miso soup, japanese beef curry, amazing hamachi rolls, homemade earl grey, sake, and caramel miso ice cream among other selections. Everything from start to finish was flawless. The only thing you have to get over is the rundown plaza where the resto is located, but otherwise I recommend you try the fusion dishes which highlight the strength of the chefs' talents.
29 April 2019 4:55
Quaint Japanese restaurant in a unexpected location. Presentation of dishes was excellent. Service friendly and quick. Some dishes were a bit bland and lacking depth of flavour. Beef ribs were excellent. Unique Japanese beer selection.
26 April 2019 14:50
Just Excellent! I know you're probably heard it before, but yes this IS one of the best Japanese Restaurants. I travel quite a bit to Japan, and this was one of the most authentic places I've tasted this side of the pond. Sashimi was "melt in your mouth" good. Worth the long drive if you're not close by.
21 April 2019 0:35
I read the reviews on this restaurant and after going there - I have to say I was Thoughly disappointed - We had the Tempura fish and Chips and the Ribs for Starters - Now I eat Korean Chinese and Sushi regularly and all over Toronto and I've Never felt So dissatisfied and dissapointed I wil Certainly not be returning and my best advice would be to save your money and find somewhere better 2 Thumbs Down - Absolutely Yuk
20 April 2019 11:19
Worth the visit for a great tasting food. The menu is unique. Price isn't too bad for what you get. Doesn't blow your budget. Great spot for a date.though the area itself is a bit sketchy.but really, it's ok. Food and service are what's important.
05 April 2019 5:42
After checking online reviews, we tried this place last summer. It’s not the best location but the inside is clean although small. We enjoyed our dinner so much that 2 weeks later, we went back; then we brought friends and relatives with us on different occasions. Since our first visit, we dine here at least once a month. This is definitely the best place for sushi in Scarborough. If you want to go downtown to a more prestigious Japanese restaurant, you may get the same quality at double the price you pay here.

My husband thinks the above was not a good enough review and wants me to add more.
We like the warmth and the Family atmosphere of the place. On a few of our visits we saw how Chef Nobu interacted with his kids. He seems like a good dad. While he was busy working, he stops to talk to the kids. The wife also made sure the kids are cared for before she started going around greeting customers. This young couple are very kind and hardworking that we wish them all success.

The homemade ice cream and tiramisu are a treat after the incredible sushi.

If you’re gong on a Saturday night, make sure to have a reservation.
05 April 2019 1:37
Good food. Food is different than other Japanese food places I went. Limited menu choices and little pricey than other places
04 April 2019 7:49
Small, intimate, hole in the wall type sushi restaurant. The restaurant is warm and welcoming and the sushi is fresh and delicious. I wish I had pictures to share but my favourites are the spicy salmon sushi and the pineapple chicken dinner dish.
11 March 2019 3:37
The sushi is the best in scarbrough the sushi chef makes the best dishes mouth watering food. If you crave sushi i recommended you trying there food you wont be disappointed. Sushi heaven
08 March 2019 7:15
While the food in this Japanese restaurant is very delicious, the price on the other hand is very expensive. Good news is, the inside of the restaurant is very Japanese oriented traditional.
20 January 2019 9:15
This was awesome! The food was fantastic.it’s in the heart of Scarborough so the music was also on point! (Reggae Christmas Music). The spicy salmon was amazing and the not-on-The-menu Dynamite roll, that was awesome as well. Not a huge fan of the Asian Poutine (too much bbq sauce in the gravy) but the seafood miso soup was epic! Next time I’m here I’m trying their gourmet Tempura fish and chips! Crazy right but looked sooo good! Highly recommend - was not expecting a place like this in the random plaza when we entered.
13 January 2019 22:47
The Japanese portion of the good was real good. The Canadian blend of the food like the Poutine was a miss. Stick to ordering the Izakaya's (basically any of the sushi / sashimi sets), and you'll be fine.
28 December 2018 6:15
Very cozy place. Definately my food was above my expection for lunch. Omakase lunch was very thoughtful and flavourful. However the ramen we order was pretty salty.
25 December 2018 21:26
Edit: I had to upgrade my rating after having the ramen on another day. It's like ramen I've never had before. It's basically egg noodles served in a well balanced bowl of spice as well as rib meat that is falling off the bone. Just fantastic, price is right too considering I ordered double noodles.

A really good Japanese restaurant with really good flavors. They also have a more traditional cushion/wooden seating setup that is a "no shoes" area. The salad with the fried tofu was excellent - you could smell that it was going to be great. The Edemame wasn't the best, it packed flavor and it was in a soy broth of some kind. The sushi was heavy set and was delicious - the tuna is probably the best I've had in a sushi restaurant. The tempura was heavy and easily could be a meal on its own.
