Naturally Superior Adventures & Rock Island Lodge

Rock Island Lodge has it all. We stayed for a mere single night late July '23 but what a joy. We hiked, boated, swam and had one of the highlights of our 2 week Superior vacation. Facilities and staff second to none and fit so pleasingly in the natural beauty of the point. Off the beaten path just enough to make it quiet and private.

This is probably the coolest place I've ever stayed, my only regret is we only booked one night as we were passing through.

We stayed in the blueberry prospector tent right on the beach, but they also have a "glam dome" available there as well. You sleep right next to lake superior, listening to the waves crash on to shore while you look at the stars and maybe even catch the northern lights (as we did) I can't recommend this experience enough, it's incredible.

There's a shower and sink building there for you on the beach as well, and earth toilets just up the path a little further.

Alternatively, they have lodge style rooms in the main building which offer all the modern comforts if you prefer that style of vacation. (Electricity, running water, flush toilets, etc)

We had a canoe dropped off for us back in the woods so my son and I could arrive on motorcycle and do some backcountry camping. The service was amazing, prices were reasonable and their timing was impeccable. I cannot say enough good things about David and his team. If you're in the area, please give them your business. You will not be disappointed!

We used Naturally Superior Adventures as shuttle transport to Gargantua Bay to hike the Lake Superior Coastal Trail. Communication through email was prompt and payment was made easy and updates were given leading up to our trip.

Meredith was our driver and she was absolutely fantastic! She was personable, kind and gave us a lot of adventure movie/documentary suggestions! She was a cautious driver and provided us with many hiking tips and interesting facts about the area. Thank you Meredith for getting us to our access point safely!

I highly recommend Naturally Superior Adventures and Rock Island Lodge. My friend and I ran a small group photography workshop with NSA where they guided us on a multi-day Voyageur Canoe expedition to The Dog River and Denison Falls. Our guides were top-notch! Extremely knowledgeable about the area and highly skilled. Our meals both at the lodge and on the trip were fantastic. On the nights either side of our trip, our group took advantage of all the accommodation options - beach camping, prospector tents, glamdomes, and their rooms in the lodge, and everyone was happy with their choice. Rave reviews all around! We can't wait until the next workshop!

I was so pleased with the entire experience that I came back for a personal trip a month or so later. I brought my dog with me and he enjoyed his stay as much, if not more, than I did. My room was clean and comfortable, the staff were helpful and friendly (and made my dog, Hudson, feel like a VIP), and you simply can't beat the location!

If you're planning to spend a day exploring Lake Superior Provincial Park, I'd recommend ordering their boxed lunch - it was excellent.

We stayed here years ago and enjoyed our time. When we decided to book again this year and had to cancel (well in advance), we were given the run-around, rude service, not returning calls/messages and unclear cancellation policy for camping. After many messages left, we finally spoke to someone days after our first inquiry. They made up their own cancellation rule on the spot and wouldn't give a full refund (even though sites were still available so we weren't causing any missed bookings). Bummer as it's a nice location but definitely not worth the hassle and rudeness.

It's been a few years but have based out of here a few times and also used their awesome shuttle service which makes all things possible on linear trips! Will be back again!

The staff are lovely and caring. Really clean rooms, good food, and great kayaking. Will come again.

This is the place for adventure. Friendly staff. Great equipment. Very peaceful place in the heart of nature. I would definitely go there again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 day kayak trip with eco-conscious Naturally Superior Adventures in Lake Superior Provincial Park. My husband and I have stayed here several times. Everything has always been perfect: clean rooms, staff that is invisible (unless you need them), and beautiful scenery. It is off the beaten path, which is another benefit. Oh, and they are dog friendly. Highly, highly recommend.

I've been coming here to visit for several summers and I absolutely love it. The scenery is spectacular and Lake Superior.what can I say?

If your looking for quality kayak or stand up paddling instruction or a guided trip, this is the place to be.

Truly heaven on Lake Superior; we had the pleasure of staying here for two nights earlier in July. It was all we expected and more, and certainly the highlight of our trip. We received a really warm welcome and tour of the grounds on arrival (and got to meet the owners awesome dog, Sharif). There's plenty of room to relax both inside and out, with a large common area with sofas, a deck with Muskoka chairs and a few beaches just steps away.

The hotel is ideally situated at the mouth of the river, but with only a limited number of beautifully presented rooms available (with some mod cons - hot water, power and WiFi), book early to avoid disappointment! Whilst a number of rooms (including ours) are just off the main common area, we found other guests and the staff to be very courteous throughout.

There are loads of activities on offer if you choose to partake (kayaking, guided hikes etc) though as our main reason for staying was to visit Lake Superior PP, we didn't find the time to give any a go.

I also highly recommend the home cooked dinner, which while very tasty and varied, is also great value for money. My only comment is that dinner time was a little early for me!

Lastly, as others have said, this really is a landscape photographers paradise! A few examples attached.

We will be back when we return to the area.

This is a fabulous gem of a place. Warm and friendly accommodations, great food and excellent outfitters.all on the edge of rugged Lake Superior geography. Enjoy numinous sunsets in a pristine setting. I loved this place!

Possibly one of the best canoeing experienes I have had the past decade, a perfect spot to give my recenly launched cedar strip canoe a shakedown on real waters. Frienly staff, friendly customers, and breathtaking paddling.

We absolutely adored Rock Island Resort! The kids were so thrilled to explore the shoreline for hours on end, the view was incredible, rooms were clean and modern, the staff were very kind and it was, without doubt, our favourite and most unique stay on our cross-Canada tour. I will definitely be back one day!

I stayed at Rock Island Lodge in August 2018. The rooms were beautiful, the view great and the service personal. The lodge is near Lake Superior Provincial Park, which is one of the most beautiful places in Ontario. I will be returning someday.

I highly recommend this place. Excellent views. Peaceful environment. Music concerts through the summer. A heaven for landscape photographers. The lodge is right on the Lake Superior, and where Michipicoten river meets the Lake. Staff was good and helpful. The heat broke in our room twice and they were happy to come and fix it promptly. I would stay here again in future.

Great place to rent a kayak. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Well equipped and on site store has good selection and prices.

Beautiful location on Lake Superior and the Michipicoten River. Lovely lodge or camping (check out the dome). Excellent kayak and canoe instruction and guided trips. Easy paddling or more challenging classes and Lake Superior paddling. Wonderful staff and guides. Definitely want to come back.

Those who know this magical place should consider themselves lucky. One-of-a-kind immersion into our priceless Superior Shores natural beauty.
