New Hopper Hut

Dark, dingy place serving food with exorbitant prices.
And on top of it all they charged $11 service charge.ridiculous.

Never going there again.

I ordered (Mutton Kothu Rotti) and (Mutton Roll), i rarely found the meat in the food.
Over $15 for the Kothu and %95 percent of the food is Rotti.
$3 for the 1 Roll and same issue for that.
You guys cant be cheap on the main ingredient of the food.

Resonable price. Best Sri Lankan & Tamil food restaurant for the last 25+ years in the same place.

Stopped in for some Sri Lankan short eats. The rolls and cutlets were ok, I thought they would be like the ones we had in Sri Lanka at the Fab but they were not. They seemed over fried. The Mutton Roti was excellent. We will go back again and try something else but will not order the rolls and cutlets. Their Mango Lassi was also excellent. The server who was helping us was very nice and friendly.

I've been a patron of this establishment since it opened, the lady at the front counter needs training in customer service. The short eats I got were from thr back kitchen and were spoiled. The health department should pay a visit to this place, as I'm sure nothing is stored at safe temperature, I'm sad to see the demise of this establishment, I had a few items that were spoiled on previous visits however chalked it off for just a bad day and not everyone is perfect all the time. But now I'm sure I won't be wasting my time going there again. I hope they notice these reviews and make changes as this was a place that was good before there were so many Sri Lankan places to choose from.

I ordered mutton kothu today. I tried to eat, and it's very salty.the person I spoke to said he doesn't know what happened. I'm very disappointed with the food today. They didn't even offer to rectify the error. But only apologized.
I've ordered food before, and it was kind of ok.
I'm not sure if I would ever order from them at all.

Nasty rolls, they only have veggie even though they offer mutton rolls, anyways rolls were spoiled, cannot go past first bite, chicken Pattie’s were really good but cold. I wouldn’t recommend this place for short eats.

Take out only. There is no dine in available. Food was good and service was fast. Lots of prepared snacks available.

I would give this place 0 stars if possible. According to them Covid is still happening. They put a big sign at the front, saying dine in.but the dine in is closed. My hopper cravings died.

I ve been trying different dishes from many restaurants to get the real Sri Lankan quality in food.
I bought dosa and roti with curries which were really delicious.

I have been a customer of this restaurant since conception and every year the quality of the food remains at par at the best of times however customer service is NOT on the menu. The front staff try their best but aopear to be governed by the senior staff, both the lady in the front (who seriously needs to retire or take a course in common courtesy) and whoever runs the kitchen in the back. The prices keep climbing, whiich I respect given the current status of our economy but their is no need for depreciating cuatomer service. Hopper Hut does not value their customers that have supported them for years. Good bye Hopper Hut!

The flavors here take you back to Sri Lanka. I mean I'm not Sri Lankan and haven't visited the place but I'll be dammed if this isn't just as good. The kothu roti is just. Damn! And the hoppers and banana leaf wrapped meals are so good, you'll cry!

My fave Sri Lankan fast food joint in Toronto, not the best for decor but makes it up with the food.

There food is good but customer service is nil. Few times the lady hang up on me with very bad attitude. This is not the way to treat your customers. The guys who work there are good.

I've been a loyal customer of this strip mall restaurant for more than 10 years.
During that time, I've had the stunning displeasure of being served by the same lady during previous visits.
Her daft and disinterested and disrespectful level of customer service clearly makes her worthy of the Award.
I'd enjoy the opportunity to share my feedback regarding the front of house lady with the person (s) responsible for placing her at the front of house.
My valuable and free input for the Hopper Hut owner.a) Train the lady.b) Teach her to adopt a professional, welcoming demeanor at all times.c) Inform the lady that she should be on her best behavior because she is representing your establishment.
Two women I briefly spoke with outside the restaurant agreed with my shared summation. They also said the lady- and generally all Hopper Hut staff are curt.e) Other reviews of Hopper Hut include words like "disappointing" and "poor service".
In respect to the food;
1) All items dumped onto the hot counter were cold. This included fish rolls and cutlets, mutton rolls etc. Nothing was being held at a safe temperature.
2) No items were covered.
3) I politely requested a Kothu dish. I strongly suspect it was microwaved. Certainly not fresh. Zero flavor as well. It's headed to the compost heap.

Slower than turtle.no management skills make you wait forever. 3 ladies working but won’t take your order they just running around.if you want food faster go somewhere else

They are ruining the business through their attitudes. Food is good. But when we call ppl who answer they are so rude. One lady who answered she doesn't know the differences from lamprise and parcel rice. All make mistakes. I didn't know whether she is the owner or worker. When I asked her if lamprise what you have. She said all make differently. But she said dhal potato.these are not lamprise. She shouted before I order she hanged up. If they want to do proper business need proper customer service. Lot of business they are loosing bcs of their attitudes. Otherwise their food are okay.

They need to learn what lamprais is! Disappointed.went all the way from downtown to get banana leaf wrapped rice and curry.

Use to come dine in which was amazing but wondering when will they start dine in again since everything is open now they are still doing only takeout. Please open dine in soon!

Ordered mutton Kothu roti (mild), Mutton roll and Ulunthu Vadai. All three absolutely delicious. Kothu roti and mutton roll both have generous amount of meat (you’ll see). Ulunthu Vadai (like a lentil doughnut) tasty. None of the items were oily like some places. A must try!

Amazing value for money. The portion sizes are big, so keep that in mind when ordering. Highly recommend the kothu roti and the meat rolls, as well as the lamprice.

I only ever tried their mutton rolls and really enjoyed it. The best part of the rolls is the fact that they don’t skimp on the meat. I found their mutton rolls to be meaty and hearty! These are a must try.

It is famous for hoppers (egg, milk, plain.) and rottis. They also serve delicious short eats. I loved all of their food items and especially their seeni sambol, pattis are another favourites of mine.

Best rolls, it's not clean. Literally saw the lady drop the tong on the floor and used it without even wiping. I think she was the owner she had different outfit.

If you looks online they keep failing the cleanliness check by the city.

Even when they do just pass.

Being brown gotta say the rolls are one of the best.

You guys can do better.

Home made Sri Lankan food cooked. Busy little shop with lots of options for vegetarians and meat lovers. Good, fast spot when I crave some authentic Sri Lankan food.

Picked up food in the morning. Felt that it had been cooked the day before. The taste was good - but it felt as if the food had been microwaved.

I order take out and delivery from them regularly. Have also dined in numerous times preCovid - the food never disappoints! A few faves: egg and milk hoppers, the coconut sambal is one of the best I’ve had, mango shake!

It's ok, lots of varies short eats from Sri Lankan cuisine. For me it lacked flavor, a pinch more of salt would have been better in some and had too much salt in others.

The place was little difficult for me to search but, the search was worth waiting. What an amazing food! This place serves delicious South Indian and Srilankan food at a very reasonable price. My mouth melted for the varieties of hopper (Pal Appam) they provide with the dry coconut chutney and onions.

Staff was well behaved and the store is following all the rules of COVID.

Hopper combo 1, mutton cutlet, chicken curry.

If you don't know what to order, for first timers I would highly recommend the following: crab curry, coconut hoppers and kothu roti. YUMMMMM.

It is spicy, so expect that. If you love spice like me, you certainly won't be disappointed.

I am not Sri Lankan but a friend of mine recommended this place. Food is very authentic. The prices are reasonable. The flavours are good. They even have some product that's frozen for take away that you can heat up at home. Most of the items are less than $10. One particular thing to note and that is unique to this restaurant is the coconut sambal. Which i haven't seen elsewhere. I have been here now several times.

I think you need to improve your chicken koththu amd lump rice if you market them as Sri Lankan food.you are representing Sri Lankan food in Toronto. Add bit of vegetables like cabbage carrots and onion leaves to the chickenkoththu also a nicely spiced gravy with tamarind.it will look nice also the taste will be wow. Lump rice is not a lump rice at all.it is just the traditional sri lankan lunch packet wrapped in banana leaf.basic elemwnts are missing in the dish and i dont know who put lentil curries and sprat curry in lump rice.the short eats (pastries) are good.same as saiwar restaurents in Sri Lanka

The vegetable LAMPREY is the best food I have ever eaten! If the whole world ate this.there would be no more wars. I drive 300kms to buy these.

I fell in love with Hooper at a Sri Lankan wedding. That was the holy matrimony between Hopper and I. I adore crisp hopper with creamy sweet coconut milk in the centre. In search for my love, I started Yelping various Sri Lankan options.

I visited Hopper Hut a while back. It's an average location for Hopper. It feels like this restaurant would not pass food inspection, unfortunately. While Hopper Hut is a decent choice for hopper (appam), I much prefer the flavours and texture from other Sri Lankan takeout.

The mutton Roti is great. Even the mutton rolls are good. Usually food is available for purchase anytime you go here.

I wish I can give this place 0 stars. Food is very expensive. They also add 15% service charge if you dine in (over $40), which is ridiculous because their service sucked! We will never go back to this place again.over rated!

Quick grab and go place for spicy foods. I have tried Veg samosa, fish patty, fish cutlet, mutton/chicken roll. It's always fresh, hot and crispy.

Best hoppers I have ever tried! Tastes just like authentic hoppers from Sri Lanka. Also tried the mutton lampries from here which was mouthwateringly delicious.

Quick grab and go place for Sri Lankan style foods and they have a full eat in restaurant as well. I love their Beef/mutton roti without potatoes, and the Coconut Milk Hoppers the most.

Sri Lankan coastal cuisine is very similar to Kerala/Malabar cuisine and Hopper hut does a wonderful job to maintain the authentic tastes with no compromise on spice level or flavor. Will go again and order other items on the menu. This time we had the hoppers and puttu. It was awesome!

Visited this place for the 1st time and honestly I wasn't impressed. We went for lunch and there was nobody to take our order. I literally had to go to the kitchen to call out for somebody.
We ordered Chicken Biryani and Lumprice.
The Biriyani was good. Portion wise and taste wise. The best was the chicken back quarter which was roasted perfectly.
They serve Rice and curry on a banana leaf and call it Lumprice. Though it was tasty the price for a normal rice and curry was way too much.

BEWARE OF THEIR HIDDEN SERVICE CHARGES!

This restaurant charges you extra service charge without proper notice. They charge extra 15% on your total food price as service charge. This is way higher than the tax we pay to eat there.

They provide the debit machine for transaction which again have option to put tip and most people innocently give a reasonable tip on top of their service charge which they say is for the server.

We had the food for $36.75 and was unaware of the same on the debit machine we kept $2 tip and finally when we crosschecked the detailed receipt it states an extra $5.51 as service charge.

As we asked about it, the cashier was not even providing a satisfactory answer and saying they have this implemented for a long time.

In Canada no restaurants can take mandatory service charges without customers permission. Also, they haven't advertised this anywhere in the restaurant.

Great Sri Lankan food. Have been around for years. They have a great selection of foods. Quick service. Friendly customer service and will help you with great food selections if your out to try new and spicy foods. They also have a selection of sweets and shorties as snack selctions. One of scarbough's long time restaurants if looking for some home made Sri Lankan food this would be your stop.

For a restaurant that calls itself Hopper Hut, they must have the worst hoppers I've tasted in a long time The hoppers were thick, the coconut milk on the hoppers had no sweetness to them, and the egg hoppers were just an egg thrown on top of what might as well be a rotti. We also ordered some curries to go with the food. The mutton curry was tough as rubber, I was told the chicken curry too isn't great. It's very unfortunate this establishment that has been for ever has gone down hill.

Best place to go to for authentic SINHALESE Food.

Very good place to try Sri Lankan cuisine. The items are a bit spicy, so make you sure you tell them to reduce the spice levels when you order. They also have an array of takeout options. From hoppers (aapams) to briyani, they have it all. The staff are very friendly and meals are priced reasonably. Recommended for those who love sri Lankan or south Indian cuisine.

Found this place on Eaters Guide to Toronto. I’ve never had Sri Lankan food before but I thought it was quite tasty and worth a try.

We had a combo of hoppers with coconut sambal. Very tasty. Then we had mutton lampries- delicious, with some heat!

I took my parents here who live in Sri Lanka and were visiting TO. They actually tried the so-called "lamprais" on the menu and never want to return there again! That's not real lamprais (look it up, it's a Burgher/Malay dish in SL), heck, it's not even Jaffna Tamil style.rather, it's a weird mish-mash of rice with about 8 curries splotched into it, looks like a dog's breakfast.
The redeeming trait here is the mango lassi, but I could make that at home. I wish they'd not call items on the menu by incorrect labels!

The hopper is great. But the snacks like vadaas, samoosa and other short eats are cold. Not offered to heat before offering to customers. Not recommended for snacks.
