Is anyone have the reason for that because I saw the 2reviews same regarding customer service. And u should know the difference between a girl and a lady hilarious ….
If a person try to do all efforts to do the best then also saw these types of stupid review then it’s done.if she thinks she is smart then of course she is because facing and handling these types of jungli people is not easy lol…

Kalyani is your classic Sri Lankan takeout spot. They have the typical hot table setup with various curries, carbs, and short eats. It caters towards that community so the food is very authentic. Every item provides very good value. Some of my typical go-to items are the kothu roti, chicken curry, appam and any of the short eats (mutton roll, fish cutlet).

April 9 Easter Sunday after long time went to buy some food at new kalyani restaurant. I was really disappointed. I'll say totally waste of time and money. After church finished went to buy some special Indian food at this place. When I went to check out the food customer service cashier person lady rushing me to buy food. Customer service should need more patient and try to explain properly food. Specially when people work at restaurant need more patient. I know it's lunch time but after long time I'm visiting. When I asked about '''lampraise"' she even didn't explained properly. One order is $15.00 +tax. I never try before so thought maybe should try. When I asked about string hopper and pittu didn't even check out right away she said no. I'll tell everyone please don't waste your time and money. There lots of other place best quality food. Also price is really too much. I know now a days everything is expensive. But if the food quality is good and taste don't mind to buy it. But today service food quality everything is terrible. Even when I bring the food home taste lampraise fried chicken uncooked inside raw. Also chicken curry put it all bones no meat. Boiled eggs bad taste. I'm really disappointed frustrated angry. I'm not going to this place any more. Waste of time money and service. Even I don't want to give one (*).

I love there rice and vegetables combo. The food they are providing test like homemade food.

Halal food. I appreciate they decided to go with halal. I'm being a customer for more than 5 years.

Best place for kothu roti in My opinion. However I noticed the price is always different on the same items.im a daily costumer So I Noticed. I feel the cost of food is random here because even this menu they have posted for a breakfast special is missing the price. So much useless information on the poster and no price. The place also has one person working and the wait time sometimes exceeds 45 mins for kuthu even when you order ahead of time on the phone. They are not organized. Short staffed and seems like they are being over worked. The food is good though.

Everything I got was delicious. Full of spice and flavour. Just served some New Kalyani food today to a Tamil couple who told me that it was authentic, just like their mother used to make in Sri Lanka.

Can find a decent selection of Sri Lankan foods at an affordable price. Not recommended for dining-in.

No lie this place used to have the best kothu roti with plenty of mutton. As of recent the prices went up and the quality went down. I'm scavenging for mutton pieces these days. You can really tell the quality went down with the recent spew of bad reviews.

I’m having food from here more than 2 years, this place used to be a best Sri Lankan food but I will not go anymore there because, their food quality changed its very very low food quality and the taste changed no longer better place to have best Sri Lankan food! Nothing to say more

Prices gone too high for kothu roti. Mutton Rolls are Soaked in oil. I have Stopped buying from this place. Sad cause I have been going since pre pandemic

The owner is dishonest and charges white people more than South Asians. I was there today and the lady in front of me ordered one mutton role after paying for a bigger order. I distinctly heard him tell her $1.50. I read other reviews that said they have creative pricing so I asked how much they were. He didn't answer. He said how many do you want? I asked again how much are they. He said $1.75. When I mentioned what he charged the lady he denied it saying she paid $1.75 I told him that's not the way to do business and I left without buying anything. There are many other Sri Lankan takeouts

Choice the lady told me the 1 pootu and a tiny dish of vege curry and fried fish. All that came to $30 normally at other stores this would have been $20 or so. The prices are crazy high and they will soon be losing customers as I had ppl complain to me before.

Fresh mutton rolls actually have meat in them. Got a bunch of their shorteats and they are great. Only problem is they are understaffed.

This is not the first Sri Lankan restaurant I have tried and the experience is the worst. When I entered there was only one customer in front of me already finished ordering but there is no greeting and asking. The chef was chatting with a Sri lankan and finally asked what I want after almost 4 mins. I ordered a kothu rotti for $10 but the box is only 75% full. For me, it's not worth the price and taste is so so compare to other Sri lankan restaurants that are famous by kothu rotti. Same price, they have to push to put the lid on and the taste is much more better. As a kothu rotti lover, I thought I found a great place because of those positive reviews but I was totally wrong.
My suggestion is: they treat no Sri lankan customer totally different so don't expect those good reviews' experience will happen to you if you are not Sri lankan. I am not a picky person but I felt both the husband and wife do not have passion to serve me. Their attitude is cold and no communication at all. I can't judge other foods but kothu rotti is below average. It's better than hopper hut but way worse than Gasa and Bavu.

This place is very bad if you don’t know anything about their older price the employment they will make their own price, when you asked them how much is the price was I will tell you different price even if you know the real Price.

Look man I understand you have a business to take care and you're working really hard but please don't lie about the waiting time. I was told my order would be ready in 15 mins and I had to wait for 40 mins. Also he's still taking calls and saying it would take only 15 mins while there are plenty of pending orders. I get it you have the product but please be honest with your customers.

We got biryani, rice with mutton curry, mutton kuthu, and a bunch of snacks. The flavors were really good, but barely any meat in the biryani, kuthu roti or mutton rolls. When I picked up the food, the staff was really friendly.

I was recommended by my friends from Scarborough to try their kothu Rottu out and tbh it’s one of the best kothu I ate in Scarborough. I asked for spicy mutton kothurotty with gravy and they blessed me with the curry and gravy. They just made my top 3 go to place in Scarborough. I rate it 10/10 for the food.

I just got food from new Kalyani restaurant, it was amazing, I became their regular customer now, I recommend everyone to try their chicken biryani it is wonderful!

Good chicken kothu roti. I prefer mine with Extra egg. Tried Fish fry but it was below average. They also seem to serve Dosas, vadas and other south Indian breakfast during day but I only visited them at night all three times. Would go back for chicken kothu anyday. It's walkable distance from Kennedy subway station which is convenient for me.

The food there is excellent. I highly recommend the mutton kothu, biryani and snacks. But most of the food is delicious and i have been going there for more than 5 years and no issues have occurred.

I placed a phone order for chicken kothu roti and noodles at "New Kalyani take out/catering today (April 16,2021).

When i opened up the noodles i found a metal tap nozzle, right away i called the store and let the lady know what happened and she said to come into the store, so i took my whole order back to the store, as i have lost my appetite.when I went in I gave both the noodles and kothu roti back. The lady who I spoke to only gave back money for the noodles. I told her no I need my full refund. She said rudely "ohh you brought back the kothu roti too" why would I eat anything from this restaurant, it is clearly not clean or safe.

The man who makes the food, took the food to the back, the owner didn't even come out and there was no apology.

The situation wasn't handled properly by the store employees and owner. This is my last visit to this restaurant.

You would never think that this little restaurant is as good as it is, but, it is! Every time I've gone, I've ordered the "lunch special". Dhal, some sort of green bean in a sauce, beets in some sort of sauce and some other chili pepper concoction, all over rice. Cannot tell you what it is exactly, but, it is super delicious but spicy for those who cannot handle the heat. I love the spice level here. Just order the lunch special if you're looking for a vegan option with massive flavor and a spicy punch, you won't be sorry, trust me.

Very pleased with the taste, quantity and quality of the food. Each item had a unique flavor - a little on the spicier side. The service is prompt and the staff is friendly. My go to place for Tamil/Sri Lankan eats!

If you love spicy food, this is a great spot. The food here is delicious, and sold at an amazing price. And customer service here is excellent.

Compare to others really high prices. (Kothuu rotty $12, Unbelievable) the price change always. Depends who charge u. (owner, cook or lady)
I called and ordered, i reached the place after 15 minutes. Still he didn't start make my food.
I hope owner will fix those issues.

Their mutton kothu roti and chicken briyani are delicious! You honestly get what you pay for, ask for extra gravy on the mutton kothu roti and you wont be disappointed!

Stopped by at lunch time and picked up some vada, stuffed potato balls and pottu. The food was tasty and would highly recommend if in the area

We bought chicken koththu and mutton koththu - two of each - the mutton is okay but the chicken is spoiled. We drove from west end and it’s too far to even bring it back to you. I hope you guys are more careful since thus is not a time when one should be compelled to go to hospital.

We went there in a Saturday because a friend had taken out for from there a few times and we found the food delicious. (We ordered parottas aka rotti, which are delicious but not great for health with all the refined flour and oil that goes into its making).

It was 6: 20pm, the night was cold and there were a few people waiting in the line due to the COVID restrictions, so we decided to order in and wait in the car. We were told that the order would take 20 mins. After 15 mins, the line only seemed to grow and want moving fast. So I decided to join the queue when it got down to 3 people. I was about to enter when 2 other people ignored the line and barged in, also ignoring there were 4 people inside although the sign outside read "only 2 customers inside". When asked they said they had called in and were there just to pick up. I realized I'll be standing outside forever if I were to follow the rules. So after 2 people came out, I entered the store while there were still 4 people inside. I had to wait for about 5 mins inside before the only person taking the orders and handling cash could attend to me in the order people came in. At my turn, I asked about my order and he apologized and said they couldn't make it and will start my order next. It was another 5 mins before they could finish the current order and to start making our order, and then about 10 mins before the cook could finish it.

I was losing patience, but wasn't clouded enough to understand what was going on and felt bad for them. Besides the guy taking the orders, there was one cook making appams (without a mask and taking on the phone) and one who was alternating making dosaa, parottas and koththu parottas in one griddle (he was clearly overwhelmed, often muttering to himself). This was a business trying to stay open amidst all the challenges and to keep their cooks employed while still trying to maintain quality and taste. Business was doing ok with customers constantly showing up - people weren't fazed by the 20min wait time for a set of dosas or parottas, but I'd seen the place much more crowded even during weekdays.

Finally I got our order at 7: 10pm. I don't know if I'll go all the way to this place again (from Whitby) due to the wait and the fact that we don't indulge in parottas that often. But, if you live close by, I'd recommend that support local businesses and if you find yourself waiting, try not to lose patience for in those few extra minutes you spend you are doing your part for the community.

I always come this place. I used to enjoy their food. Today I order breakfast I got side sambar but it was a disaster. I feel like they just heat it up yesterday’s leftover daal and add some vegetables to make as sambar. It wasn’t tasty at all. The lady at the front she never even smiles. I noticed this before too. Every time she welcomes with a very rude attitude. The people dealing with customers should not be like that. Foood quality was good before.

Overall not a bad place. Service was good and food wasn't bad either. I had their mutton rolls and their egg and mutton roll also, was good but wish it was a little spicier. Prices were good. Enjoyed it and will be back if I'm ever in the area.

Food was cold, mutton rolls small and cold, kothu roti made to order, but not fresh and taste was just average, don't get all the good reviews. Can't pay by credit card, but they charge you 50 cents for debit. There are no prices listed anywhere. Lady was not friendly at all. Again I don't understand the great reviews.

Update. After reheating the food.flavour and taste was more enjoyable.

Cold takeout? Charge for debit and no CC in the time of Covid? When so many businesses are struggling to find customers, a little bit of effort here would go a long way.

Everytime I find myself in Scarborough as of late, I have been making it a point to come to this particular hole in the wall restaurant which may possibly serve THE best kottu roti in all of the GTA. Every single order of kuttu rotti is made on the spot on the large griddle right behind the counter, which allows the customer to witness the effort that goes into every single order. The smells and flavours inside the restaurant may be strong, yet invokes memories of our old country. Thank you! Oh and the biryani and kottu rotti each cost $8.

A hole-in-the-wall takeout place, but their food has great flavours! Ordered mutton kothu roti and it was full of flavours. $8 including tax and the portion was huge, too. Will definitely come back!

Amazing food. Mutton roles are straight fire. Amazing flavour and great texture. I smashed 6, got super full and wanted more. Go here. Prices are more than fair, service is fast and kind.
