The Nigerian consulate in Ottawa is as irresponsible as the Nigerian immigration, the whole Nigerian system has collapsed but they are still in denial, they operate in civilized society but are still uncivilized, The application of renewal of Nigerian Passport is more expensive than applying for British passport, Canadian passport, Australian passport, the corruption in Nigerian has somehow found a way into the Canadian society, a clandestine corruption, where citizens of Nigerian are defrauded for services that aught to be done smoothly, Apart from paying a huge amount to a third party in US dollars, they expect you to pay a huge cost travelling to Ottawa for renewal, You are kept outside of the embassy like beggars in the cold and treated without dignity, Right at the embassy, they rob you officially after you have paid for Passport, The Nigerian embassy Robs every applicant of 50 dollars Money order which they claimed is for service charge, Just to show you how the Nigerian system has failed, indirectly telling the whole world that the ridiculous cost of payment for the passport does not include service charge, The Ottawa Consulate Need to be investigated, The Canada government need to investigate the fraud of a service charge claimed collected by this embassy, why in the world do you have to pay service charge after being practically robbed for passport payment, the worst thing is, they cannot expediate the passport, They make you pay your own delivery by mail and keep your passport longer than necessary, The lackadaisical attitude that marked the civil service in Nigeria has been imported to the Canadian society.they are so irresponsible that They don't respond to emails, they don't answer phone calls, The Canadian government must be compelled to investigate the fraud on their soil.we ran away from a failed society and the Nigerian embassy seemed to have imported bad work ethics to this society. The ambassador will be out soon when the heat on all the fraudulent collection of 50-dollar money Orders gets exposed to the government. They piled up the application that ought to have been sent to the post office for delivery and the Nigerian system kept both your Payment, Your Money order, and your express envelope in an embassy that has lost the porpoise of existence. Nigeria is certainly Not working. Please compare the Nigerian embassy to other African embassies. Canadian Government must investigate the extortion and bad service on Canadian soil

Great service compared to when I was there a couple years ago. This is by far an improvement. I was done my passport renewal process in less than an hour. Everyone was very professional including the lady at the intake desk, who greeted everyone with a warm smile. Definitely commendable!

Honestly, this is the worst embassy I have dealt with in my experience of more than 20 years with different embassies. I applied for an entry visa for my kid with 3 weeks lead time; we missed our flights because they would not process the visa on-time.
We put the date of travel but that doesn't concern them. Had to lose a lot of money because I did rely on having the visa within three weeks. I tried to contact them but one cannot because they subcontract the visa processing to VFS-global in Canada, and those people cannot help because the embassy told them not to call them. I tried to call the embassy but one can't reach them for visa purposes only for the passport.

Even some of the third world countries people refers are better than Nigeria embassy Ottawa - they could apply for visa online and get that within 24hrs. Shame on Nigeria embassy in Ottawa! If one wants to apply for passport, it is an headache (this what get us into apply for a visa with one's own country), visa application worst case.

Honestly, Nigerian services get a bad rep world wide but this one deserves praise. Couldn't get a closer appointment online so I emailed them. They typically respond within a week and they are accommodating. I got in exactly at 9: 30 and was out at 10: 05. Quick, easy and to the point. They were nice, friendly and efficient.

One key thing, Print all your documents or you would be told to go do that and return. I get it, 21st century and all that but print it all. I saw them turn away over 8 people because of 1 missing document or the other.

Great service from people who care. From the front staff Solomon to the admin staff and passport officers I felt the care, support and assistance, to get what I needed. Thank you all for what you do.a great reflection of the high commissioner and his staff.

Went with my 5yr old for our passport renewal on the 8th of May, expected to get passports sent via courier but got a mail instead that my son needs to come over to Ottawa from Calgary because his picture capturing was not satisfactory.

No replies to emails and no one picks calls, not to mention the lies that they called me and dropped voicemails when i do not have my voicemail set up as at then. How can the high commission operate this way?

This place is the worst. I do t understand why this people love to make people wait. Been here since 7. People have to drive 4 hours as well travel from Calgary for some none sence. This is none sence. Who ever responsable for this depart please do something with the staff they are the worst. No manners, no respect at all. Sad. No wonder why the world is the way it with people like this this. They feel better than people.

Really? How can you suddenly cancel appointments that were booked months in advance without the courtesy of sending out emails? Highly unprofessional and disrespectful of people's time and resources.

It was an absolutely smooth process for me.
Be sure to have all your required documents ready, to avoid leaving the building and coming back. The information on your NIN should be valid. With a schedule appointment, the renewal process would not last for 20mins, but if you decide to come without an appointment, You might or might not be attended to or you might be told to email a certain address which would respond with details on an appointment for you on the following work day.

PS: Regardless of your appointment, arrive at 9: 00am; which is the opening time, to get it done and continue your day stress-free.

Accommodating personnel and polite. I needed to change my appointment date but didn't know how to do it. I showed up and they guided me and I was able to get my appointment changed to that same day.

Very much improved from what I experienced five years ago.
The elderly woman inspecting the documents prior to being transferred for biometric is a role model, cordial, dutiful and matronly.
The entire team deserves commendation.

We came in for passport renewal on April 18th and we got the new passports via mail on April 24th. The whole process was fast and seamless. Kudos to the Nigerian High Commission Ottawa. You guys are doing a great job. Please keep it up.

No one in this office responds to email or phone calls. I have applied for renewal of my Nigerian passport since May 26th, 2022 but I am yet to receive my passport. I am suspecting they have probably lost it because no one seems to respond to my queries. They have very poor customer service with terrible attitude. May Nigeria never happen to us. Edit: I got an email from Nigerian high commission March 2023, saying my passport is ready. I received my old and new passport together 10days afterward. There was no apology or an explanation for a delay of passport of approximately 1year duration. I already gave up on the Nigerian passport and Nigeria as a country.

It went very smooth and fast, the whole process of getting captured to renew my passport was less than an hour and staff were polite

The embassy staff here, is the classic example of ''good people in a bad system''. Obviously short staffed with what looked like a very high workload and frustratingly inefficient bureaucracy. Still, they tried their best to resolve my issues quickly and with kindness while trying to conceal exhaustion and irritation at the same time. I appreciated that and appreciate them. They do excellent work and deserve a better system.

I got my passport in the mail last night. The whole process took 16 days from capturing to receiving it in the mail.

There is an appointment for everyday. Even if you show up for ur appointment early or late. They still show you in, no questions asked.

The capture day took about 2hr30mins and someone actually apologised halfway through that the NIN verification device is acting up that’s why its taking so long.

It was an overall pleasant experience. I read the reviews, I had faith and i was pleasantly surprised.

I only wish they picked up the call or returned voicemails to answer people’s questions.

Arrived at the embassy to complete my visa application. The security officer at the entrance, Seyi Bandele, offered some direction to ensure I had all required documents. For the follow ups, he pointed out the information on their notice board to help me connect with the right department. Definitely improved my experience at the embassy. Kudos

Grossly incompetent is the what best describes the Nigeria High Commission in Ottawa. It’s been over 6 months since I went for my data capture and I am still yet to receive my passport.

They never pick calls, they don’t respond to emails, and whoever is the Instagram handler has a chip on their shoulder. If I won’t be granted my passport, can I at least get a refund?

Things has really gotten better for sure. December 20th, 2022, I flew from Toronto to Ottawa for my passport renewal appointment. There were no long line at the entrance, I was checked in on time, and my picture capturing was smooth with no issues. The Rep actually gave me compliments that my picture looks very good.thank you for that boss. I spent less than 2 hours to get out of the building.

The Personnel were all very helpful and communicating and not trying to be turf at all. Canada post delivered my new passport 4 days later.thats amazing

I was in the high commission for my passport. I didn't stay here for up to 2hours between getting in, verification or documents and capturing. Within two days my passport was sent to me.

Well done to the guys at the high commission. I wasn't expecting the passport to be ready this quickly.

It was a nice experience at the Nigerian embassy. When we arrived, there were few people ahead and we all queued up outside and let in gradually. When it was our turn, the security checked our appointment letter, and confirmed all required docs were complete before we were asked to put other personal belongings away like phone etc. Then went straight to the sitting area, after a short period, we were called after like 15mins and the officer checked ours docs again, and gathered them in preparation for capturing. Then another 15mins, we were called for capturing. So was practically done in about 1hr 30’mins for mine. But my daughter’s own had some delay which they said was due to network issue. The staff were nice and courteous and tried to explain the cause of delay. The ambiance was great, there was water to drink and also available was coffee and tea. The restroom was very clean. Overall, I have a 4 stars because if it was raining or snowing outside, I wondered if people would stand in line in the rain or snow?
